I have always loved the original version. I was in my mid-teens when it was aired, and in the mid 80's I served in the Navy. then the reimagined version came out and my eyes exploded with excitement with the redesign! and then when they re-redesigned it again for Blood and Chrome: war time Galactica, well.... that's what I'm doing with my Moebius model kit.
the original show was just too expensive for TV at the time. the second season Galactica 1980 was worse than a compromise it was an atrocity. i would rather they just cancelled it than do that to the show.
Another excellent build buddy!! Love the overall work and the detail looks great! I am a TOS fan first. Something about the TOS Galactica that the new one doesn't have! But, in the same sense, you can't be a true sci-fi fanatic without loving them both! The newer series had a lot of things that I didn't care for! But, was still a good show!!
You could have done an alternate lighting effect pretty easily with it on fire with red/orange LEDs flashing inside. This was done in Fire in Space and other episodes. I think that would have been really nice. Not a huge fan of the strobe but I understand why the client would like it. The original model is by far the best design, imo.
Beautiful build! Loved that old show. I even contributed to the letter campaign when we heard it was being cancelled. It got bumped from the schedule so much it was hard to remember which Sunday it was on, which contributed to the fall in ratings.
No, the companies made their separate molds. Neither release of the TOS Galactica is completely accurate -- the models are just too small to have ALL the details and the shape of the head is still inaccurate but the Moebius model is acknowledged as the better, more accurate Galactica. Revell nailed it with the Viper and Cylon Raider the first time. It's the Galactica that had the real improvement with the Moebius release.
I always like this ship. Yours turned out Fantastic Boyd!!! I have an original Monogram kit but wish I would have picked this one up as well. Nice Work!!!! Really Cool to see the 2 side by side. I'll be watching
The TOS version is SO ICONIC!! And the reimagining version is too. Biggest thing I've noticed (since this is the 1st time seeing both ships together) is that it's easier to pick out the details of the TOS version, probably because of the paint scheme. I grew up with the TOS and really fell in love with the Ronald D. Moore version. BOTH ships are GORGEOUS!!! Hard to pick just one!
I like the builds, I grew up watching the original one in the 70's with Lorne Greene so I'm voting for the original. I also like the original viper over the later Mk variants.
Lookin' Good! Have to say I am partial to the OG Galactica myself, but both renditions are beautiful! Fantastic work and thanks for showing the tips on the fiber optics!
Both are pretty good models but it would be nicer if the modern version was a tad bigger. Also glad Richard Hatch was in both shows. Amazing man, may he rest in peace. So say we all.
as always Boyd, beautiful work, an industry standard as far as I'm concerned! My goal is to commission an Enterprise from the TV series from you, and maybe an autographed base. You're really building a great reputation with your work! Fantastic! I just have to have one of your pieces!
I wish one of the model companies had produced a kit of the Scarlet viper from Richard Hatch's The Second Coming trailer and Battlestar Galactica novels. The motorcycles from Galactica 1980 would have been great, too. Oh yeah, the Landram and Galactica shuttle from TOS as well.
Boyd that dome base looks fantastic wish you could have shown us how you did it. The Galactica looks awesome the only thing I do is put some blaster marks on the hull.🤩👍
Ah Boyd, you are the Rembrandt of the modeling world! This turned out absolutely fantastic. I built this kit a few years ago but of course, yours looks a bazillion times better. I had the same issue with that horrible gap between the landing bays and the struts. Not sure why they allowed that in the kit. I filled mine in with glue and then weathered those areas to hide it better. I think I'm still true to the original version but the new one looks pretty cool as well. Excellent job on both of them!
Great build! I'm more partial to the redesign Galactica because I watched that show before I watched the original series. It would be neat to paint up the TSO Galactica in the redesign color scheme. Maybe even add some of the flak turrets to the hull as well.
I miss the little closing credits animations at the end. I thought they were well done. That of course does not take away from the video itself. I liked seeing all the places were you put lights. It really does justice to the complexity of the model.
Great Work as Ever Boyd! I have to admit that I have something of an eternal soft spot for the original Galactica! Unfortunately for me though I can’t get one for a decent price since the New Kit was discontinued!? Such a short run???! I’m now having to resort to building one from scratch. I’m looking at least a 4ft model. I may as well as to build from scratch would incorporate a significant outlay if I were to buy the kit? In essence a 4ft model would absorb that cost? I don’t like the thought of being fleeced! It’s so mercenary! Fab! I’m looking forward to what’s next! Best
The only large Star Trek model I have is the 72" TOS Enterprise. I'll be doing more work on it over the winter. There are some specialty items needed for the model that became difficult to get due to the pandemic coming in.
Boyd. Another amazing build. What a great idea to inserting small segments of fiber optics after the build is complete. What size fiber optics did you use. And did you use lighter to flare the ends?
TOS series was surpassingly stupid, but the single best thing aside from Maren Jensen, was the design of the Galactica. It is still such an extraordinary design that the new series guys didn't mess with the over all shape too much. The new look is a demonstration of how much time has passed from then to now. The surface detailing is all digital. The new series is a lot more thoughtful and, dare I say it, better science fiction. And they have Grace Park.
I thought the original series had some good ideas but it was definitely geared toward a young audience. I liked the updated version for it's more serious approach. They are both memorable for different reasons.
Hey, Boyd! You're an inspiration as always. You mentioned using .75 fiber optic for the window lights. Can you let us know your source for that? Thanks, man. And thanks for sharing your great work with us all!
I like them both but the reboot Galactica does look tougher. It is a Battlestar after all. I grew up watching the show and after the reboot tried to watch the original. I was out in about 10 minutes. Had a cartoonish lost in space feel to it. Anyway, excellent job with the ship and the base
This is wonderful but to make it even more so fabricate a moveable stand to allow different pitch angles just like it would be in space just a thought.
TOS version is really cool.......but I really like the new version, too. I guess that since I grew up with the original , I would have to pick that one.......
Hi. Is it possible to have you build a reimagined Galactica, looking the same as you made this one? I would love to have this model. Although I’ve thought of trying to buy a Moebius model and building it myself, I know I could never do the build the justice it deserves. I’m a novice model builder at best. But as I’m really a big fan of the reimagined series, I’d love to start getting these models into my collection. Starting with Galactica, and adding Vipers, Cylon Raiders, base star, etc. thanks, Ernie ~
They destroyed the Galactica not out of love for storytelling but as a last slap in the face to the Original fans. Great work on the original Battlestar.
I can TOTALLY hear the theme music while looking at this GORGEOUS BUILD!!!
TOS is iconic for me and more to my preferred version.
I like both in their respective serials, but for the models, I like the TOS scale size better. And the landing bays, really nice touch
Great models, still like the original over the new one-it's the kid in me!
The reimagined ship always reminds me of an alligator. Nice work again Boyd.
I really like how it casts a bluish tint naturally from the engines! No need to paint them "blue"
Love both models. My wife and I benged watched the newer series in order including Blood and Chrome and the short takes etc.
Hands down, the original for Me. Really good work.
Loved the old show as a kid....and like the new show for the ships you did excellent work there just beautiful!
I have always loved the original version. Both great models and excellent work Boyd! Me I am a fan of the TOS version of the Galactica.
Thanks Kenny.
Great job on your model I like how you light your space ship keep on modeling you have a nice day be safe
I did 4 battlestars, but yours looks FAR better!
Fantastic! That base is pure art, Boyd.
ToS all the way.
Great work! I have always liked the TOS version best. Loved your technique for the fiber optics. Thanks for sharing.
AWSOME job!!!! Big fan of both ships!!!
The TOS ship is my favorite. The reimagined ship did fit the new series though and it's a great ship for that show.
Impressive work
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Ian.
Looks great Boyd!
Another excellent build buddy!! Love the overall work and the detail looks great!

I agree Kenny, both series had their strong points and I like them both too.
I love the original battlestar galactica from 1978
Nice work! They both look beautiful!
WoW.. Fantastic job.. Nice work.. !
Excellent! Love it Boyd.

Beautiful build!
I thought Moebius got the Molds from Revell of the TOS Galactica and Revell got the Moebius Molds from the 2003 Show.
No, the companies made their separate molds.
Neither release of the TOS Galactica is completely accurate -- the models are just too small to have ALL the details and the shape of the head is still inaccurate but the Moebius model is acknowledged as the better, more accurate Galactica.

Mr. Awesome, the fx and the extras you put on it, another great job with taste and well done.
Wonderful!! Both are amazing!!!
Thanks :)
Frackin Supurb!🤗
Awesome, totally awesome. I like them both.
Thank you.
I like both.
Great job with the lighting and effects! My favorite will always be the old school Battlestar Galactica.
Great build Boyd. The base really makes the model pop. Great work as always!
Thanks.
Very cool. Landing Bays are awesome.
I always like this ship. Yours turned out Fantastic Boyd!!! I have an original Monogram kit but wish I would have picked this one up as well. Nice Work!!!! Really Cool to see the 2 side by side. I'll be watching
absolutely sublime work. In the series I loved seeing the red light flicker suggesting fire after an attack. Its a beautiful looking kit , great work.
Thank you.
The TOS version is SO ICONIC!! And the reimagining version is too.

BOTH ships are GORGEOUS!!!
Hard to pick just one!
Very Cool!
AWESOME. 😃👍.
Nice!
What a beast. This one's better than the latter BSG. Thanks. Oh frack, I want one.
Very nice! 👍🇳🇿
I like the builds, I grew up watching the original one in the 70's with Lorne Greene so I'm voting for the original. I also like the original viper over the later Mk variants.

Both are pretty good models but it would be nicer if the modern version was a tad bigger. Also glad Richard Hatch was in both shows. Amazing man, may he rest in peace. So say we all.
Richard tried for years to get a remake done before the new series came out. He was always very kind to the fans, a great guy all around.
Looks great! Excellent work…would love to see you do the reboot BSG, love that ship. Keep up the great work and stay well!
I used to work on ceramics, and we called it antiquing, not weathering, trying to make it look old or used, makes details stick out.
as always Boyd, beautiful work, an industry standard as far as I'm concerned! My goal is to commission an Enterprise from the TV series from you, and maybe an autographed base. You're really building a great reputation with your work! Fantastic! I just have to have one of your pieces!

The Galactica multiverse.
Boyd that dome base looks fantastic wish you could have shown us how you did it.
The Galactica looks awesome the only thing I do is put some blaster marks on the hull.🤩👍
Another great build. Lover how it came out. I like them both. I hear they are thinking of doing another reboot.
I've heard about the reboot but it's been a few years and nothing yet.
Ah Boyd, you are the Rembrandt of the modeling world! This turned out absolutely fantastic. I built this kit a few years ago but of course, yours looks a bazillion times better. I filled mine in with glue and then weathered those areas to hide it better. I think I'm still true to the original version but the new one looks pretty cool as well. Excellent job on both of them!
The gaps at the strut/landing bays was huge and it surprised me how bad it was.
Would love to have one of these done this way.
Great build! I'm more partial to the redesign Galactica because I watched that show before I watched the original series. It would be neat to paint up the TSO Galactica in the redesign color scheme. Maybe even add some of the flak turrets to the hull as well.

Hey Boyd, nice work as always. I would like to know what is happening with the extra large Star Trek models that you have.
The only large Star Trek model I have is the 72" TOS Enterprise. I'll be doing more work on it over the winter. There are some specialty items needed for the model that became difficult to get due to the pandemic coming in.
Definitely both! Shame the remake isn't at the same scale as the TOS.
Boyd. Another amazing build. What a great idea to inserting small segments of fiber optics after the build is complete. What size fiber optics did you use. And did you use lighter to flare the ends?
I like both but the original is my first pick.
Awesome light show. Where is mine, lol?

@@TrekWorks Well said. True.

NICE WORK. SO, DO YOU BUILD MODELS FOR CLIENTS A LOT?
What happen with Space 1999 Eagle? Thought you will start on it month ago, as per video you did on it? Thanks for your great video, learned a lot!
It's coming soon, i am just gathering up everything I'll need to build it.
This is wonderful but to make it even more so fabricate a moveable stand to allow different pitch angles just like it would be in space just a thought.
TOS version is really cool.......but I really like the new version, too. I guess that since I grew up with the original , I would have to pick that one.......
Can't even find these models anymore since Moebius stopped making them, really too bad.
Kits tend to have high profile details that were more lower on filming model. 😕
I prefer the original 1978 Galactica design.
Can you build USS Enterprise (NCC-1701D)?
it is a shame the scale isn't quite the same, since the reimaged Pegasus is larger perhaps it would look better next to this version of TOS Galactica.
Hi. Is it possible to have you build a reimagined Galactica, looking the same as you made this one? I would love to have this model. Sorry but I'm taking a break from commissioned model building until the spring. Then, when I resume I already have several projects that are booked.
They destroyed the Galactica not out of love for storytelling but as a last slap in the face to the Original fans. Great work on the original Battlestar.
Model build on both are great but I prefer the re imagined version
Hull isn’t smooth. Has a lot or protrusions on the outside.
I'm disappointed with the size Moebius choose for this kit. Looks to be about the same as the old Monogram kit :(
