Has anyone noticed that in the deleted infirmary scene, where they cut Kane's helmet off exposing the Facehugger,Ripley is DECENDING the ladder, from above?! Lambert slaps her, being pissed that Ripley wasn't going to let them in,but where is Ripley coming from? The Nostromo, as we all know, only has 3 decks ! The infirmary is located on on A deck, so Ripley should've been coming up from below. Conceivably, there is probably an "Attic " of some kind, but it's never brought up, in any of the behind scenes, or schematic showing the Nostromo blue prints, that I know of. Maybe a boo-boo that the production or editor never caught..?! Hmmmmm...just wondering if I'm the only one who noticed this...oversight..?😮
You are not alone, I have wondered this same thing for years. The last place Ripley is before she reaches the infirmary corridor is the bridge. Thus, if Ripley arrives from the bridge, she will come from the same floor as the infirmary. It takes time before Kane is carried from the B-deck airlock to the infirmary (in the script, Parker and Brett help with the carrying). So in the meantime Ripley has been able to go above the A-Deck? ..what's in there? ...in Ridley Scott's Storyboards the ship has an observation dome, does Ripley come from there? I have not found any material answer to this. It would have been more logical for Ripley to have arrived at the scene from around the corner.
As an addendum to your question. A person who has worked in the production has answered this question that the reason why Ridley enters the scene from upstairs is because of the sets. This is probably true, because the sets changed a lot during the movie, and they where not perfect, even though it looks like it in the movie. No 100% complete Nostromo sets were made, even though Ridley Scott wanted to. It was impossible (budget) to build the complete set with all 3 decks on 3 different floors at the same time. First there were the sets on deck A, after filming was done on it, they were changed to the sets on deck B, etc. But still, why does Ripley enter the scene from above, and not from around the corner? - I don't know, I haven't found an answer.
