  • The biggest doors Ive ever built! 16' tall and almost 10' wide and we built them in just a day and a half. These were built to divide part of my friends art studio from their work space. Check out Serena and Aric's business here:

    Awesome work brother. Those are serious doors. It’s impressive that the simple x pattern works at that scale. 👍🏼

      Simple designs would probably work better for just about everything. We tend to over complicate everything with fancy designs. That’s great if doesn’t have to be functional.

    Great job in engineering the hinges and including a grease fitting!! I have been replacing some rusted / seized hinges on outdoor gates recently and have been doing something very similar, on a much smaller scale. Drilling and tapping the top for a grease fitting was an idea I had that has worked brilliantly on two repair jobs so far.
    Keep up the great work and the very instructional videos

    It's fun watching things like this come together as it's much more than your average doors. I can't do all this metalwork so it's
    great seeing people who know how, along w/ their tricks of the trade. peace

    Nice work, working within the confines and inaccuracies of a space really are what makes on-site work such a challenge when compared to a standalone piece.

    FYI Simpson StrongTie makes a concrete screw anchor with a beveled head so you can have a flush countersink finished look. Sweet work getting 2ea 16ft slabs flat. I always check the concrete slab I'm building on to see if its level, flat, etc so i don't build bad concrete work into a steel frame I'm building.

    Small question, is there a reason for not tacking in the diagonal braces before welding it all together? My thought is that it would help a lot with warp prevention

    Nice work ! Does the evolution saw work good without clamping the material?

    • @MakeEverything
      @MakeEverything  26 днів тому +1

      Absolutely! I didn’t clamp anything I cut during this build just gotta hold on tight. I will say that’s probably not advised by evolution, and for round material definitely throw a clamp on wick.

    No handles yet? Ever? They should paint the cross bracing of the door a light silver to match the aluminum. Also looks kind of weird with their rectangles over the X's. Great job on the doors though! Interested in seeing their whole facility. I assume the extra large doors are to be able to fork lift large items through? Or is it all design?

      The steel ball inside the hinges acts as a bearing, hence the smooth motion of the doors.
