Orphan was thr hardest for me but its very close with Laurence. I can't believe you didn't struggle with Ebrietas. She was definitely one of the hardest bosses in Bloodborne.
I totally get that this is a ranking for a very specific build but... man, Ebrietas that low is truly wild. This isn't so much a ranking of how difficult the bosses are in the game, and more how well the build counters bosses.
Rather than specific build, the boss rankings are based off knowledge and playstyle taking advantage of particular exploits and then ranking bosses based off how much of a challenge they still were after an early weapon boostup
Yeah I fully disagreed with this position. His reasoning would make this video "Bloodborne bosses ranked by how cheezable they are", in which case Blood Starved Beast should be ranked easiest. Also Gasgoigne should be ranked way lower as well since he can be cheezed with the music box or by getting him stucked on the stairs. Ebrietas is by far the hardest boss in the main game for me.
@@cedricrenaud5657honestly I think a true difficulty ranking should take into account the choice to both use and not use cheese. Because it is completely fair that most people may use stuff like the music box for Gascoigne or Cocktails for BSB, but others might not. Therefore a more fair method would most likely take into account more than one playthrough for these rankings. And that's always been my biggest gripe with these lists; they're mostly ranked on a single run with a specific build type, and therefore aren't as comprehensive as they should be.
I only realized this about Rom in my latest playthrough, but I think she is a reimagining of the Phalanx boss fight, in the same way that The One Reborn is a reimagining of the Tower Knight fight. A large crowd of minions in her arena, which are invulnerable to damage from the front and will gang up on you if you get too deep in. A more passive required strategy where you have to circle at a distance and pick off what minions you can. Cover to prevent the ranged spam from instakilling you offscree- oh, wait, I guess they forgot that part!
I mean Bloodborne started off as a Demons Souls Sequel. Many old files reflect this. Arch Thrones to sit on, Boss Souls to collect and the Moon Phases beeing oddly similar to the World Tendency are not a coincidence! Even the Bosses are twisted Versions of what they imagined this game to be.
When I finally played DeS I loved it because I saw all the ways it's bosses evolved into modern FROM bosses and it's world was better than any of the DS Trilogy.
The Chalice dungeons are worth a visit, because there’s a lot of concepts they tested out in there that would later see the light of day in future games. The Pthumerian Elder and Bloodletting Beast, in particular, are ones that any Fromsoft fan will recognize.
Fun tip: You can block all of Martyr Logarius' scythe attacks with the wooden shield, turning the boss fight into a cake walk. Is it boring af? Yes. Is it effective? Also, yes xD
In a rather fun coincidence. it's 2 years today since I first beat Bloodborne. (didn't quite get the DLC done, fishing village managed to get under my skin so was not gonna be in a good mindset to try and tackle Orphan)
ludwig is personally most well made boss over all souls game imo. well if you fight him normally, he isn’t that impressive, but i truly appreciated him once i fought him bl4 run. his attacks are very tight, but with clear tell, and every move has proper dodge mechanic, also with incredible music that goes with his attack timing. so once you learn all his moves you can dance along his attacks. it is quite fun jumping around with the music and kill him. kinda like godfrey, i think godfrey was much simpler version. anyway i wish they make more bosses like this bit more.
I feel the same way, at least about fighting him at lower levels. I used to always save the DLC for last, but now I try and fight him as early as possible, only really killing Cleric Beast, Gascoigne, Amelia, and BSB. And I love his fight even more. He is by far the best beast boss in the game, with super tight hotboxes for his size and amazingly clear tells. I wouldn't go so far to say he's the best souls boss, I still think Gael, Isshin, and maybe even Midra are probably better. No knock against the horse man though, Ludwig is still probably top 5 for me. I especially love that his two phases are very different from each other, something that only Gael has really done, and not as thoroughly as Ludwig.
With BSB I always tell people to use him to learn to parry, it's just as easy and effective as the PBC method and will get them ready for when it's in the dungeons where PBCs don't work on it.
Orphan is my favorite fromsoft boss. He's the perfect test of your skill and abilities while being so well balanced and designed. Owl father and isshin the sword saint are close contenders (with the ladder as my fav final boss of all time)
@@Z-Mikes00 I agree that his hitboxes in the first phase are really tight overall. But the hitboxes on the placenta in the second phase are comically massive and stretch a lot farther than the actual placenta model.

I actually agree with most of this one. Especially the last two. He's tough as nails but one can master Shrimp Scampi. Laurence absolutely does not GAF about your stats, gear, skill, phantoms or i-frames.
Only fought Moon Presence twice and beat it without dying both times. Granted, I kamikaze’d Gehrmann the first time so when I returned for Moon Presence I did have full blood vials again.
Maria isn’t really hard when you realize walking to the right dodges 90% of her attacks and you can just pile on damage during her phase changes which a lot of times has her going straight into the next phase. Also ludwig really needed two health bars, going into his second phase with less than half health makes such a good boss a little too easy imo.
I honestly agree with Orphan and Laurence. I first fought Laurence to sort of ‘complete’ the dlc and get a perfect experience difficulty wise because I bought into the hype of Orphan being the hardest. I was dead wrong. If Orphan of Kos took me a couple of days to beat, Laurence took me a couple of WEEKS. I don't think I've *ever* struggled against Lawrence, even on my first playthrough. I'm pretty sure the most I've ever died to him in any given playthrough was like 4 times. He's just never been that much of a challenge for me idk.
Lawrence is fine on NG but is straight up unfun on later NG+ cycles because his health and damage scale to a ridiculous degree that’s far higher than anyone else in the game, Orphan included.

When I played Bloodborne for the first time this year, I already called myself an Elden Ring vet with around 2.500 hours in that and having played through Sekiro numerous times, as well as DS3, Lies of P and Lords of the Fallen. So the gameplay wasn’t new to me, it was challenging especially as you don’t get full healing after resting. Also, it certainly helped, as I already had seen other streamers play it (cause of those videos I wanted to get the PS5, solely for this game]. Then I killed Gehrman and was stunned, that this locked me out of the DLC, which I had barely started. So I made a new character, played through it again, and really didn’t struggle against the DLC bosses that much, as Ludwig went down on try 7, Maria on 4, Orphan on my second try and believe it or not, Laurence went down first try. Then came NG+, and boy oh boy, Laurence tormented me for 2 1/2 hours. I was losing my mind, as I could not recall what I did to beat him on NG. So I absolutely agree with the top 5 tier list and Laurence as no. 1, as I never had an easy time against him ever since.
Bloodborne is always a playtrouhg worth, especially themed ones around halloween. This year it was Rico from the Penguins from Madagascar. Hunter Set without Cape and Top Hat, Cannon and of course the Boom-Hammer. Kawoom, Kawoom, Kawoom ;)
I'm glad I'm not the only one that's had trouble with The One Reborn. So many people talk about it like it's the easiest fight in the game, but it consistently takes at least a few attempts for me on every run
It's very interesting to see your perspective on boss difficulty with your build. From what I've experienced, depending on your build some bosses can be dramatically more difficult than others based on what weapon(s) you are using, how much health you have, how much you parry, etc. I can see why you struggled more with Laurence since your build liked being midrange with the gun and Chikage (plus it didn't seem like your health was at the hard cap, which usually stops you from being 2 shot by him) and his hitboxes are pretty unforgiving. I personally still find orphan the hardest by far mostly because I suck at parrying, especially the second phase.
Honestly, Lawrence is most manageable for me with the threaded cane. The extra beast damage plus the added distance that allows you to thread the needle (pun intended) of staying close with lava but far enough away to avoid stepping in it is quite helpful.
I agree with the top 3 but for me the order goes: 1. Orphan of Kos - the guy literally came out of the womb with the sole purpose of skull fucking my sanity. 2. Ludwig the Accursed - the dude's first phase is insane and always fucks me harder than the taxman. 3. Laurence, the First Vicar - I don't know why, but I always breezed him easier than the other two.
Having got the platinum trophy on Bloodborne before the release of the Old Hunters DLC, I can say that facing Laurence on NG+++ was truly the stuff of nightmares...
There is also cheese for Micolash that you drop into the boss room before he runs in and you can trap him from going in and just beat him down. Martyr Lagarius is also a tough fight because of the Range Attack shield he has
Laurence took me 3 tries, Orphan took me 6 tries, Pthumerian descendant in the chalice dungeon took me two full days. Lost count of how many attempts 💀
this is weird, I remembered thedemodcracy voice different back in the days, this video just popped up. Went back on the OG BB reviews and his voiced did change. Seeing other youtubers age when you don't see their stuffs in years.
I also found out that you can parry the Living Failures in a recent playthrough, and have much more fun with the fight now. I never understood why people may think that Laurence is a hard boss. Yeah he has a lot of HP and can hit hard too, but he's also an endgame DLC boss that has a moveset identical to the first boss you can fight in the game. Dodging his attacks is not hard, and the high damage can be countered by, say, leveling Vigor. I also used to play as a glass-cannon type build for all of these games, thinking I had to prioritize my damage stat rather than health or stamina. But the truth is, you really don't. Yes, damage scaling is important, but for most early and mid parts of these games, the weapons upgrade level is more important. Especially in Bloodborne, where almost all of the gems are based on percentages of AR, so leveling your weapon up is all the more important. It makes these games a lot more fun when you level health and stamina equally across the playthrough. If you're having trouble with Laurence, i think that more so speaks to player skill rather than boss difficulty. His combos are 3-4 attacks max, his openings afterwards are massive, its very easy to strafe around him, and again he is almost identical to the first boss. And this is just a personal opinion, but i find Ludwigs 2nd phase much harder than the first. Also we need to normalize including Chalice Dungeon Bosses, they have some pretty fun bouts.
U should start doing rankings on specific weapon matchups vs bosses for the souls games. Example would be something like a ranking of how hard each boss is vs the moonlight greatsword or something like that (maybe even just a whole category/ buildtype, like how hard each boss is with a dex or arcane build).
You can loop Micolash in an endless enter and exit out of one of the mirrors until he's dead. I kept far enough away not to aggro him and just porcupined him with my maxed out Simons Bowblade. He'll enter the mirror but comes right back out and just AFK's as long as you keep enough distance. It was kinda hilarious. 😂
During my latest, and probably 20th+ play through, my favourite boss Ludwig absolutely spanked me for two days, losing countless hours of sleep! Boss experience changes, but that was my worst. And I've beaten Malenia!
Watching this after having just watched the backlogs accursed brew challenge run is funny, mostly because of how utterly he demolished the last 2 bosses on this list.
If you are worried about cleric beast placement, don't. I first tried it as my first ever Soulsborne boss. My only prior experience was Lords of the Fallen
Logarius is not only my #1 hardest boss, but also my most hated boss. The constant backpeddling/jump back ruins the fight for me. There are some playthroughs I just skip him altogether and only go to the castle for the items. Also, yay for pronouncing Vicar correctly!
Interesting choice for #1... I know it's a personal list but Laurence is generally just a few tries for me each time compared to Orphan and Ludwig who I always spend quite some time with, I find his patterns and attacks way easier to read and get a beat on than several other bosses. Only thing that pushes him up for me is knowing how insane his damage is on the higher NG+ playthroughs.
Fun anecdote: the AI glitched out on my save so BSB ignored the Pungent Blood Cocktails. I still beat him after I figured out the charged heavy on transformed Hunter's Axe would actually fling him back about 20 feet.
What makes me sad about laurence is he is the hardest bloodborne boss and isn't unique in the slightest. To anyone who doesn't know, his second phase is just the moveset of the sewer zombies in central yharnam sped up. I realized it a while ago and it upsets me to no end.
I hadnt played a soulsborne game in like 2.5 years. I got on DS3 last week and finished the ringed city on an old save. I then downloaded DS2 again and I started NG+ on an old save. I'll be done with it soon and I guess it's over to Bloodborne to beat it again lol. I gotta do something I've never done before.
I recently beat the game again, and in my run I tried to use to parry bosses as little as possible. This made me enjoy bossfight like Maria a lot more and not melt her via parry. I ran a chikage build so when I went to fight Lagarius I found him easy as I was focused on dodges instead of parry. I was confused as to how easily I beat him considering I barely scraped by on my last few runs of the game
Took me 6 hrs over two days to kill Orphan. Afterward I went straight to Lawrence, ready to get mulched… killed him in 3. I was flabbergasted. Guess Orphan made me get in the zone.
Finally someone who shares in my struggle with Laurence. I can beat Orphan pretty effortlessly nowadays but Laurence? I'll be lucky to beat him in less than 20 tries
I feel like some of the easier bosses during my first playthrough like Amygdala and Micolash got increasingly harder to deal with in consecutive playthroughs while bosses like Vicar Amelia and Ebrietas who I used to struggle with didn't get harder at all. Especially Amygdala gave me a really hard time on ng+4 with my melee build. Laurence on the other hand will always be the bane of my existence no matter what lol
Idk how much this qualifies as an objective difficulty ranking when it’s being judged based exclusively on one build, like no matter how you slice it Moon Presence over Ebrietas or Gehrman is a little silly
LOL... Laurence was the only boss I managed to beat with zero deaths. And I had a lot of trouble with Amygdala. It's funny how Bloodborne bosses challenge each player in unique ways.
Finally, justification for Laurence! My fight with the Orphan was epic. Beat him with the tiniest sliver of HP left and no vials, but Laurence was the only boss, chalice dungeons included, where I summoned help. But if and WHEN they make a PC and/or PS5 port (🤡), I vow to do it without help!!
My first time through the DLC, Laurence beat me at least 20 times. But Orphan took me 3 tries. Maybe it was the luckiest run ever, but I agree 100% Laurence deserves roses. He was a struggle.

Ebriatus needs to be much higher
WELP! Time to start up the ol’ PS4 again !!
Honestly, Lawrence is most manageable for me with the threaded cane. The extra beast damage plus the added distance that allows you to thread the needle (pun intended) of staying close with lava but far enough away to avoid stepping in it is quite helpful.
I agree with the top 3 but for me the order goes:
I just finished my playthrough running this EXACT build! This ranking couldn't be more true
I am respectfully looking at that thumbnail
Having got the platinum trophy on Bloodborne before the release of the Old Hunters DLC, I can say that facing Laurence on NG+++ was truly the stuff of nightmares...
There is also cheese for Micolash that you drop into the boss room before he runs in and you can trap him from going in and just beat him down.
Martyr Lagarius is also a tough fight because of the Range Attack shield he has
This list proves that the most dangerous thing in Bloodborne is British Cuisine.
If "WHAT IS THAT HIT BOX!!" was a person, it would be Laurence. 💢
Thank you so much for pronouncing "Amygdala" correctly. I can't tell you how many Bloodborne videos I've watched with it pronounced wrong.
Laurence took me 3 tries, Orphan took me 6 tries, Pthumerian descendant in the chalice dungeon took me two full days. Lost count of how many attempts 💀
😂🤯💀
this is weird, I remembered thedemodcracy voice different back in the days, this video just popped up.
Love this series!
I got stuck say Vy-car due to watching your orginal Bloodborne content, it was only when i met a real Vicar irl i was politley corrected
glorious yharnam its great to see you
You can loop Micolash in an endless enter and exit out of one of the mirrors until he's dead.
Vy-car doesn't sound better. It's always sounded goofy.
It reminds me of when someone learns a new word from a dictionary to sound smart then pronounces it wrong and sounds like a fool
The first time I played the DLC was on NG+. I struggled to beat OoK, but I had to start a regular NG run to beat Laurence for the first time
I saw the list, i started tweaking
Logarius is not only my #1 hardest boss, but also my most hated boss. The constant backpeddling/jump back ruins the fight for me. There are some playthroughs I just skip him altogether and only go to the castle for the items. Also, yay for pronouncing Vicar correctly!
Interesting choice for #1... I know it's a personal list but Laurence is generally just a few tries for me each time compared to Orphan and Ludwig who I always spend quite some time with, I find his patterns and attacks way easier to read and get a beat on than several other bosses. Only thing that pushes him up for me is knowing how insane his damage is on the higher NG+ playthroughs.
yeah i've new gamed several times now, and without a doubt ludwig is the hardest boss for me. orphan would be 2nd, with lady maria being 3rd.
Lawrence in base game + DLC, Defiled Watchdog overall.
Fun anecdote: the AI glitched out on my save so BSB ignored the Pungent Blood Cocktails. I still beat him after I figured out the charged heavy on transformed Hunter's Axe would actually fling him back about 20 feet.
Margo's Wet Nurse was the one boss I defeated without getting hit. Good times.
The watchdog in the defiled chalice dungeon gave me more trouble than anything else in the game
Laurence was a solo raid boss. His health bar was so chunky. At least Orphan of Kos felt scaled for a 1v1.
I’m a simple man. I see Bloodborne rankings? I watch Bloodborne rankings.
Wake up babe, new DeMod video just dropped
this video is a dailly reminder that we NEED bloodborne on.....anything outside of the ps4
I’ve been playing it at 60 fps on my laptop all week 10 hours in now
@Jbswe ......dammit that is sweet
I remember this game looking WAY TOO GOOD when I was playing it, like better than real life. Seeing it again, in 2024, omg...
I always thought Laurence was easily the hardest, probably the only boss where I legit got angry at the game.
Just got a Ps5 yesterday, first thing i did was download Bloodborne. Been pitching to hunt again
Idk how much this qualifies as an objective difficulty ranking when it’s being judged based exclusively on one build, like no matter how you slice it Moon Presence over Ebrietas or Gehrman is a little silly
I can't be the only one who expected another classified equipment leak in this video when they heard War Thunder.
16:40 Idk bout that one
Literally. Close your eyes and press L2, I promise you parry more than you miss lol
My first time through the DLC, Laurence beat me at least 20 times. But Orphan took me 3 tries. Maybe it was the luckiest run ever, but I agree 100% Laurence deserves roses. He was a struggle.
Lets face it... the hardest boss in Bloodborne is the abysmal frame rate and sony's unwillingness to update it.
I’ve been playing it at 60 fps on my laptop for 10 hours this week
they need to bring back limb damage imo.
“Just farm winter lanterns” get a load of this guy… what else should I do? Is that all? Maybe I should ask all the bosses to die nicely.
Orphan of Kos remains to this day the only Bloodborne boss I haven't beat. Deserves the #1 spot over Lawrence.
