I forwarded this to my AW and asked her to watch it when she felt like she was ready to. We seem to be taking 2 steps forward and 4 steps back at times. She will go about 2 weeks sober before she binges for 3, 4 days. Then she gets down on herself. An emotional perpetual motion machine, of sorts.

Ever since I became sober I've been doing Yoga, reading books, watching Netflix and doinf other things which I had done when I was drinking but e.g. when I was playing the piano then it was real cacaphony sometimes and now I really feel I'm playing well. I found all the little things that give me joy.

This girl and i have such a similar story. Even about the religious background. WOW. Im sober 2 yrs and being able to identify that it was the shame i internalized BEFORE becoming an addict helped me get to root cause healing. AA and restoring my relationship with God has allowed me to feel safe again and to explore my areas of buried hurt amd shame. Shame was the elephant on my back, not the alcohol. Now that i have healed that, i do not have cravings. I still attend AA as it is my spiritual program choicem thank you for this interview.
And one more thing to add to Addicts out there... we are poisoning ourselves and i now have cancer as of 5 mos ago i got diagnosed even tho i am sober 25 months. The damage we do with emotional unresolved pain, plus the actual poison is real. Please tale care.

Beautiful video. Thank you Amber and Arlina. Loved everything about this video and your ending on boundaries. I had to set a firm boundary with a woman who has 10 years of sobriety but still needed to be seen and heard at my expense. I felt better for doing it, but I choose not to be around this person for my own well being and peace of mind. Keep these wonderful videos coming....

Do you have any advise or suggestions how to deal with estranged children.
My step kids have cut my husband and I off due to dysfunction while growing up.
I really want you make amends but not sure how
    Thank you

I'm an adult child in low contact with my mum (I'd cut all contact if I didn't feel so responsible for her emotionally, because she hurts me on the regular). All I'd want from her would be for her to seek therapy about her own trauma. And for her to stop taking out her emotional pain on me and overstepping. She doesn't realize she's doing it. I'd also love for her to acknowledge what she's done and sincerely apologize to me (in a way that didn't lead to me having to comfort or otherwise emotionally carry her), but that's not something I expect to ever get.
You could seek therapy for your own sake. They could help you reach out to your children through a short letter or text for example. The kindest thing you can do for them is work on yourself, apologize, let them know you are there but also that you respect their need for space (and mean it). Tell them you love them.
But also understand that this is all traumatic and heavy for them (an apology, healing as it is to receive, if it is sincere, is also very heavy and brings up grief, relief and resentment), and they may not be ready or willing to be in contact with you.
If you write to them, you should do it for its own sake (for you and for them), not as a tactic to get them back.
When adult children cut their parents off it's usually not about what happened in our childhoods but about how we're being treated still today.
I wish you all the best. I can recommend Fabulous Fifties on TikTok. She's a mother of adult children and has a lot of wisdom about this topic from a mother's perspective.
