    Hi. Thanks for constantly adding new and interesting things to Corona. But with the new 12 update 1 I have a problem. Scenes that were created with this update, or were edited in it, cannot be opened on previous versions of Crown. They just crash. From what I understand, it has to do with automatic exposure and white balance. This is very important because I can't now transfer a scene to another person who hasn't yet upgraded to the latest version of Corona. What to do in this case?

      While we do aim to guarantee old scenes will open in new versions, the other way around is of course not possible - exactly like here, the new version can have features the old version was completely unaware of and simply can't handle or process.
      Since Corona is subscription based and everyone has access to any version they want to use, the person you are sending to can install Corona Update 1, and can use the multi loader approach so that when they run Max normally, they are using the old version, but they can also run Max with the newer version when they need to process scenes that you send them. docs.chaos.com/display/CRMAX/Multiloaders for information on how to set up multiloaders.     hello .. usually when install corona i put material library file with installation .. in this update there is no extract for the material file in the installation .. is that mean there is no material library from now ? (offline-method)

      The Corona Material Library is now available inside Cosmos, so is no longer part of the Corona install. As noted in the blog at www.chaos.com/blog/corona-12-update-1 , "Removed the Corona Material Library component from Corona installer. If you do not have it installed already, a download button will be shown on opening the Corona Material Library from inside 3ds Max or Cinema 4D." - so once Corona is installed, click on the material library icon/button, and it will come up with the option to download and install it if you still need it separately from using Cosmos.     Hi, this are great improvements! Although, I have an issue with Forest Pack. When scattering lights, these doesn't seem to render at the scene. Is this a bug, or is it up to ITOOsoftware to fix. Thanks a lot.

    Is the ai enhancer is the same as enscape? And is it for animations only or does it support still images, great update as usual well done 👏🏻

      This is not an AI enhancer, this is an AI upscaler. Its only purpose is to speed up rendering by 4 times, but reducing the quality (it renders to one half width, one half height - ie one quarter of the pixels so four times faster - and then upscales using the NVIDIA AI Upscaler which has no enhancement). It is only for drafts, as a way of creating quick test animations for example, but not for finals.
      As for AI Enhancement, like that currently released for Enscape, we'll be looking into that as something we might do next year - you'll see that mentioned in the What's Next on the blog at www.chaos.com/blog/corona-12-update-1

      It's for the Corona VFB - Vantage already had it's own, separate automatic exposure etc. controls that you can set once over in Vantage. Hope this helps! Tom

      No, no support for Open PBR in this release, sorry. It would definitely have been in the video if there was. Rendering an animation created in your DCC through Vantage is our next highest priority (and just to be 100% accurate, you can already do animation in Vantage as seen by the awesome work by narrativ. - you just have to build the animation in Vantage, not in the DCC).     Hmm, I used to use Corona. I liked it a lot. But it feels a bit stuck in the past, with no gpu support.

      CPU has advantages over GPU in many things, but of course now you have the best of both worlds, with Corona bringing all the CPU benefits, and Vantage bringing all the GPU benefits :) Thanks! Tom

      As mentioned in the video and the blog at www.chaos.com/blog/corona-12-update-1, animation from the DCC (Max or C4D) is not supported in this initial version of the Live Link, but will be coming in the future. We had hoped to have it working for this release, but it didn't turn out to be possible to get that far along - yet ;) Hope this helps! Tom

      No, as Corona 13's content has not been decided upon yet - we have lots of ideas, but we all need to sit down and turn that into an actual plan (which could only happen after this release is out).       Correct - because during the daily build process, it was named Corona 13 (as those who tried out the daily builds will confirm, and you can see on the daily build threads at forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=43295.0 :) ). The build only got renamed to the final Corona 12 Update 1 for the Release Candidates, and I had to start recording things well before then in order to have everything ready. So in other words, what you are seeing here are older versions of the daily build, now replaced by the newer and more complete final build. Thanks! Tom

    The ability to make an object not reflect in other specific objects, like Vray. Like not wanting a bounce board to reflect in window or mirror when using it to add more reflections to a chrome object. Why is this so hard to add? Its been in vray for at least 10 years and just makes sense. Instead we just get countless caustics updates over and over again.

As to why it's hard, this is one of those topics where you'd need to be a developer with an understanding of our code for us to be able to explain that, but if it was trivial or easy it would have been done already (and just because another engine with a different approach and code has it, is not an indicator of it being easy in another engine).       @@ChaosCorona Thanks for the reply. I've already added it on the forums and on the ideas page. I understand coding perfectly well and its almost the same thing as many of the other features already in Corona. You can already make lights only affect specific objects, slice materials affect certain objects, decals only affect specific objects, make lights affect specific objects, turn relfections/refractions on and off.. It's just an evolution and combination of those things. Compared to creating complex caustics in volumetrics this should be a walk in the park.
      The last reply I got about this wasn't about difficulty anyway, it was about it not being realistic. Which just doesnt make sense when you can do all the other things I've just listed. Sorry for being arsey about it but I've been asking for this feature for years and keep getting different reasons for it not to be added when it would make a lot of peoples lives a lot easier.

      An important distinction is I didn't say you have to understand code, but understand our code and the way Corona approaches resolving light transport. Just to note in the things you mentioned, in Corona you can't make lights only affect particular objects, that's another one of those things that is hard because Corona is fundamentally following physically realistic rules. That too comes up as a request now and then.
      The problem with breaking realism is it is one of the things people choose Corona for, that realistic results are easily achieved, and bending those rules in one place can have unforeseen consequences for other parts of the engine and start making Corona harder to get to realism.
      Anyway, as noted, if it's on the Ideas Portal, it will be considered (but as you also pointed out, it's been asked for before and has not been selected for implementation at any stage yet - we do promise to consider every request, but we don't promise to do every request). Thanks! Tom

      @@ChaosCorona you absolutely can make a light only affect particular objects. Theres include/exlude. Set it to include and pick an object. Its pretty worrying that the person running the youtube account doesnt know this.
      Nothing that we do is realistic. Its CGI. In the real world we have to use camera tricks and tools to fake things in and out that arent desired. Thats all I'm asking for. One more little tool. We already have countless tools that arent realistic so its a nonsense argument. I can already make an object not visible to all reflections. Why not be able to choose which reflections? Anyway, I've had this same conversation multiple times so I'll leave it to the vote on the ideas portal. Thanks for the reply

      Hi! I don't actually run the UA-cam account, so no need for alarm on whether I miss a feature that is already in there ;) The recent feature request I've seen was in fact specific to being able to do something similar for environment lighting (HDRI), sorry for the mix up, that left me in mind that it wasn't done for any sort of lighting (went and checked and ofc it does work for everything, including the sun... but not HDRIs at the moment). Our support team knows everything inside out and back to front though, they are the ones I'd call the real experts on each specific feature in Corona :) And yes, it's on the Portal, and all things there will always be considered whenever we are doing planning for the future, and that is what counts!     That's crazy Vantage is $1000 how is live link a corona update ? That's way to expensive ! Bit thin on the actual engine updates it's mainly updates for third party features. It would be great if I could get a perpetual license I could have skipped the last couple of updates and saved money.

      Actual engine updates - faster caustics, caustics through volumes (possible in very very few engines), automatic exposure, automatic white balance, improved white balance algorithm, ability to use Cloud Collaboration (which has no extra charge so can be counted now as part of Corona), AI Image Upscaling, Scatter Distribution Presets, and then all the smaller improvements and bug fixes listed on the blog at www.chaos.com/blog/corona-12-update-1 (around maybe 100 of those or so). So there is a lot there even if you have no interest in Vantage :) Hope this helps! Tom

      "Just" a PS5, which I've had for a long time. The controller moves back and forth between the PS5 for when I want to escape sitting at the computer, and to the PC for when I want to do some PC gaming :) The PS5 Pro isn't worth it to me ,to pay all that all over again when I already have a regular PS5 lol!       Sorry, there will never be a Corona GPU (reasons already given many times, primarily GPU always has some limitations even with today's technology and Corona is focused on the ultimate in realism, plus it would take years of development which would cause the main Corona development to slow down and we are not willing to do that since the CPU version is still very much required and we wouldn't want to have 2 years of no development there). Of course, you DO have GPU now, because you can send the scene to Vantage and end up with the best of both worlds - the full quality, ultimate realism Corona render, and a GPU render for whatever you need that for (projects where realism is less of a concern, quicker drafts and tests, exploring the scene in real-time to find camera angles, etc.), all without having to rebuild the scene entirely separately.       It does already - by connection to Vantage! There never will be a rewrite of Corona into GPU as has been noted many times before (GPU still has limitations, plus such a thing is a rewrite not just some small conversion, so would bring all other Corona development to a halt for two years, which doesn't make sense). But you can now easily send the scene to Vantage for all the benefits of the best GPU renderer out there :) Hope this helps! Tom
