MVC1 IS SO DIFFERENT ON PLAYSTATION

- It didn't occur to me that Marvel vs Capcom 1 is on the PlayStation 1! I also didn't realize that they have different content and cool things I haven't explored at all. Today, I decide to play the PS1 version of MVC1 and here are my thoughts on it!

One thing that this version 100% does better is allowing us to choose whatever assist we want, instead of frustratingly having to time it so we can get Colossus or whoever.
I remember having a Tips & Tricks magazine that shared the button combinations to every assist. I had Juggernaut every time 😂
there was a combination of buttons you had to hold to get the character you wanted
I always settled for Psylocke as it's hard to forget you only have to hold mk for her 😊
This is actually the first version of MvC1 I ever played. Couldn't stop playing. Naturally I thought all of them were like this. I didn't know the arcade wasn't like this one.
I’ve made so many videos using THIS version for combos and such!
This version of the game was off the chain! It's actually how I got started playing the Versus series. And, the reason why it's like this is because the PSOne couldn't handle the game as it was in the arcade. It completely changes how the game is played on several levels. Also, your second character is used for the Duo Team Attack. You can't switch them in even though they are there.
But you can switch them out before the match starts.
@@esmooth919 Yeah, by switch them in I mean like a playable at all times second partner.
This is the version i had growing up! i like the easter egg of web throwing people into the far right wall of the bath house to break down the wall and get into the ladies bath!
Fun fact: XvsSF and MarvelvsSF on the PS1 also has the crazy mechanics this version has, Justin definitely should try those too. He'll have a blast!! DHCs into team supers, so funny yet satisfying.
Lol yo that's 🤪 I'm looking forward to seeing it when he uploads it!
Ps1 games had some crazya@# things.
Norimaro!!!
I still have my copy of msh vs street fighter, I thought/still think it's a great game. I get so annoyed by arcade snobs hating on the ps1 EX versions when they were decent in their own ways.
Different yes but not bad.
@@jamesbevan4479 Yeah most definitely not bad cuz I love my PS1 XvsSF copy. The amount of hours to this day I spend with the homies. To this day! Besides Madden 2008, I pull the PS1 vs series. No need for the 1up when u still have the hardware 😎☝🏽
this is the version of mvc1 i grow up playing
its nice to see justin playing it
Not a lot of people know that but you can actually switch characters between fights. Just hold L2+R2 before loading screen starts
I tought you can also change by bringing both characters to attack and then imputing a button, I think 🤔. It’s been a while, but I had fun with this game, unlocking the variants.
@@Gleamozen no that’s the arcade version this is ps1 one. Ps was too slow for switching
I had the dreamcast version so I never knew this
@@RashaunEatOreos DC port is near perfect (if not an actual upgrade) of MVSC1
actually, you just need to hold all Punches or Kicks or their respective 3x button (L1 and L2 by default) to swap the main character before the Now Loading... prompt in the versus screen, also you can swap your current partner for your opponents partner during the victory screen (including main for special partner by holding all K if you skipped at the end of the round, and to change partner for main when skipping all P)
"Okay great, can I have a MvC arcade experience please"
MvC on PS1: "how about a warm glass of shut the hell up, you're in my world now"
As a kid, I didn't understand why I couldn't tag into my partner hero like in the arcade version, or why I had to use my opponents character in crossover mode. I figured it out during a match when me and my opponent both did a team hyper combo (the only time your partner hero appears in the match) and the frame rate speed dropped enormously. The console couldn't handle four different playable characters on the screen. I thought the game was going to crash.
It was still a fun unique experience. You got two additional color palettes, and you didn't have to use special codes to select the hidden characters or assists.
This particular version of the game makes for such a different feel compared to the arcade version but I freaking love it. The zoom in camera is my kind of hype
It's too jarring for me. I think it would mess me up and be a hindrance, but that's just me.
I'd liked it at first, but I eventually turned it off, because it always threw me off
Also, interesting to note that PS1 versions are the only ones who have a "Special Finish" background for Aerial Rave Finishes in MSHVSF and MVC
If you ko the opponent with a Aerial Rave you will get a special background similar to how you get a Hyper Combo Finish
The version I played growing up! Love to see it played. Ryu is definitely the most fun to play as with his transformations.
The PS1 version of the first 3 Vs. games was what I had back in the day. I knew that the Saturn had the better version of the first 2 and then the DreamCast for MVC1.
I grew up on this version. Had every character unlocked, house rules was 1 secret character per team (no Onslaught lol). My mains were Orange Hulk/War Machine and Wolverine/Jin.
This was the MvC I grew up with, and yet Justin has only experienced it in 2022 lol
Your cries of disbelief of this versions awesomeness put a smile on my face :) I didnt know of this stuff either. Thanks for the showcase, it was great fun!
That intro! Man, I remember that I used to do that with Strider spamming Legion with the Juggernaut assist and chip my enemy to death.
This version also has secret characters too. You can play as shadow lady, lilith, carnage, heavy war machine, red hulk and mephisto. And roll too.
This is why Justin is the GOAT so much variety in his videos. Also I grew up playing this and MSH v SF on ps1
Lots of cool fun stuff in this version. Would be interesting to see people explore it competitively. Maybe with a better running port
Maaaaan I gotta tell you watching you play this brought back some childhood memories of complete enjoyment playing next to my uncle's who use to smack me up in this 😂
Yes, X-men vs. SF and MvS on Playstation have the same thing where you can "DHC" cancel into multiple supers. I think you can even cancel into the exact same super 3 times in XvsSF.
For certain characters, I think if they only had one super like Rogue, you could cancel into her super three times.
"NO ONE IS SA-" *Gets Juggernauted*
"Onslaught is trash" to "Onslaught is tight!" With the click of a button.
Marvel superheroes versus Street fighter on the PS1 is actually insanely good!! It's a perfect example that not being arcade perfect does not necessarily make it a bad game and if you're able to appreciate it for what it is, it has a lot to offer even compared to the arcade version of marvel superheroes versus Street fighter...
I think you can ex super moves together which gives you a lot of great combo options but it does turn the game into a hybrid of Street fighter alpha and marvel superheroes versus Street fighter...
Back in the day most people did not have a Sega Saturn and even if you did have a Sega Saturn chances are you didn't have the ram expansion to take advantage of these games. The barrier for entry was very steep back in the day if you wanted arcade perfect gaming so having a quality option on the PS1 was very nice being that it was affordable and you still got a little taste of the arcade action...
Yup, this is the version I'm grew up playing. Same with Marvel vs Street Fighter on the PS1. A whole different game. You can Super Cancel Super similar like Street Fighter EX series. For the PS1 version of MvSF you can play as Apocalypse and Cyber Akuma. You have to unlock them by beating Arcade Mode (In any difficulty level) without using any continue.
I remember going through hell trying to unlock Cyber-Akuma. The Ps1 version is harder because they didn't nerf his health, damage and speed from the arcade version (where he fights against two characters and there's only one round), so 1 character vs him in this version is super hard
This is the version I got back in the day with the slim PSOne. At the time as a kid, I didn't know the Dreamcast version even existed! Dreamcast version is more arcade perfect. I was a bit bummed when I found out the PS1 version isn't like the arcade but I still had a good time nonetheless and super thrilled to have the game to play at home after school.
I'm tripping. I don't think I recall it ever being on PS1. My dealings with MVC1 was always cabinet and Dreamcast. I knew PS1 had Street Fighter vs Marvel, etc. Crazy I'm 40 and missed that.
Fun fact! Specials are actually super cancellable in the PS1 versions of X men vs street fighter, marvel super heroes vs street fighter and MVC1.
Yep.
this was the funniest version of the game for sure. infinite assists, cockpit mode, no dual team super (you used your opponent’s character instead!), dynamic air combos, and dhc, playable onslaught alongside a magnetic beam megaman was a blast! objectively a shoddy port, but in its own vacuum a lot of fun 😂😅
Wait. You said you used your opponent character instead. What do you mean?
@@chiarosuburekeni9325 Variable Cross in all modes of this PS1 port[except in Crossover Mode] you summon a clone of your opponent, instead of your partner.
If you choose the "Special Heroes/Special Partner", Variable Cross will spams the Special Partners infinitely until the Variable Cross ends.
@@chiarosuburekeni9325 Basically if your team is Ryu and Chun-Li and your opponent is Wolverine and WarMachine, in PS1 port Variable Cross will make a clone of Wolverine appear as your partner during Variable Cross/Duo Team Attack.
The only exception for that is during Crossover Mode that have the original Variable Cross mechanics from the arcade.
@@chiarosuburekeni9325 due to the limited ram of the consoles back then...you really can't load all four different characters in those games (except sega saturn). To make it at least possible, you have to play cross over mode
Oh yes sir! Unlimited Charater assist! It's amazing. That's all I had! "Dynamic Air Combo!" I have all the vs series on PS1. This is Junior High School era for us. Lol.
Loved it! The unlimited special character assist was so OP!
You moved that Beat Plane like you were playing R Type! That dodge was epic! 😹
Onslaught can call in the secret characters. He mostly calls in Orange Hulk, Carnage, and heavy war machine. I never tried pushing select. Never knew I could be the giant version. 🤷🏽♂️ You have learned me something today! ✊🏽
That spooky boy laugh 3:34 👻
Happy Halloween
man i love the ps1 version of mvc1 its sad its only 1v1 in the basic gamemode but because of this special cancel its changes allot how the game works
I love that I'm watching this a few days after I played mvc1 for ps1 in a tournament lmaooo
Welcome to my childhood, JW.
For me this has more pros than cons.
I’m watching the new black panther wakanda forever this Friday at 1:45pm I’m so excited
3:40 this god like laughs like peter griffin 😂
I did not know about the Megaman power up from beating the game with him! That is awesome!
Thanks 4 showing me the darkest secrets from ps1 s mvc1
I loved that the ps1 difference for Capcom vs games worked .
Yes we hated there was no tag ,but the 1v1 should have always been an option
That man Jwong having the best time of his life 😂 🤣 😂 I didn't knew about that select button feature and super after super. I played vs at a friends 🏡 when it first came out. I didn't like the offline 🆚 mode because who you pick will be your friend 2nd character and whoever your friend pick will be your second character
Wong: "Nah that's Juggernaut..."
Juggy: "IT'S THE JUGGERNAUT B🤬H!!!"
Wong: "LET'S GET CRAZY!!!"
Gotta have an MVCPS1 tournament!
Love how the Ps1 versions of the Marvel vs Capcom series are underestimated due to how Capcom had to make up for the console being too weak for the actual arcade game (there's a reason of why in Japan those 3 games had the "EX Edition" subtitle in the games).
Man, I rented this a whole bunch as a kid, absolutely loved it.
gotta do part 2 on this!
Now this is OG mvsc1!
That confused giggle was hilarious
It would be nice for the MVC collection to have that single match/one versus one mode as a patch/update from the PS1 versions of X-men/Marvel super heroes vs Street Fighter and MVC1.
I remember playing this as a kid with my dad in Dreamcast…he never went easy on me
Take a shot every time you hear "my man"
Had so much fun playing this as a kid back in the day. Discovered DHCs through a friend's brother playing and mashing the hell out of supers lol
Selecting two of the same characters and combining that with DHC was insane. Had so much fun doing Royal Flush into team super with 2 Gambits, that was like 98% damage.
i revisited this version a few weeks ago because of nostalgia. There's a few things that I didn't notice back in the day:
- Meter building. The meter build, while not playing in crossover mode, is better in this version. Super jumping with any character and spamming a button until the character is grounded again will give you a pretty much a full meter.
- Crossover counters are meterless. You can spam this on block with strong assists (Juggs, Colossus, Psylocke...) or strong partners (WM's repulsor blast, Mech Zangief's armored assist...)
- You can DHC in the assist version of the Duo Team attack. WM + lockdown assists = cheap nightmare.
- There's some weird damage scaling in some DHCs. Canceling Crawler Assault into Ultimate Web Throw does a lot of damage. I believe any of Ryu's supers into Shin Shoryuken also hurts a lot.
Fun Fact, Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter was the first game( as I remember) that had the DHC on PS1.
Actually it was xmen vs sf on psone that had it first
The ryu combos are crazy switching to ken and akuma mid combo is sick.
The Duck sound when Megaman used his Super at 4:06
Got this for Xmas of 99 on the Dreamcast haha loved it!
I love this version, caption commando is awsome you can link cap storm into launch storm and then sword when they at the top
Try Wolverine: Weapon X + Berserker Barrage + Fatal Claw or Triple Royal Flush with Gambit... Is insane
Now play the rest of the series on ps1.They may not be balanced but they are pretty fun.Capcom give us a marvel vs collection(with the ps1 versions also in.....)
I played the PlayStation version first as a kid. I was maybe about 5 years old. When i finally played the arcade version i was mostly confused. I couldn't chain my supers!
Growing up with this game, I e had the same reaction when I learned that other versions you could actually play with two characters.
This was the version I played more of as a kid so this was dope
i love ps1 version of marvel vs capcom so much fun .
Nowadays I spend my time drinking Whiskey and watching Justin Wong take CPU asswhoopings.
Watching you play this game and see your reactions made me 😂.
Still waiting for Marvel to do an Onslaught sage....
I use to play this at my friends house on his PS1, had no idea you needed to chose Cross Over to get the 2 charater choose, we always did just versus and chose a side character.
When I was a kid was so excited to pop this in and than realized there was no 2vs2😑I was pissed af
My friend had this on ps1 and we played for hundreds of hours, and I never remember any of this stuff.
This is actually my favorite version of it. It's the first one I played.
From xvsf mshvs sf mvc1, was my childhood
My favorite version without a doubt.
The PS1 version is the best type of jank. Just balls to the wall type absurdity.
mvc1 was one of my only playstation games as a kid and I had no idea about the differences
When you're playing in the normal mode (no tagging) you also regain red health while you're not being hit. There's a lot of neat features about the PS1 version to make up for how much of a downgrade the game is due to limitations of the hardware. Ditto for MSH vs SF (never played X-Men vs SF sadly).
Also the idea of DHC came from Street Fighter EX if I recall the release order correctly.
X-Men vs Street Fighter uses an ACTUAL round system in the Ps1 version, MSH vs SF and MVC uses a round+KI life system hybrid, as one "round" ends, you only recover your health based on how much red portion you have in your current lifebar (and ALSO X-Men vs Street Fighter has the DHC mechanic).
I wanna see u Infinite everyone with onslaught in arcade, that was hilarious at the end
I like this version ! Jin kicked my ass all the time! He blows up his clothes ! My picks were Ryu and Spider-Man , Ryu can change his color of his Gi and acces different combos, but his white Gi had the shin shoryuken, and if hit correctly would give a lot of damage to the opponent.
I had to go back and research and no this game did not come out after MVC2 i remembered because when i was in 5th grade they had a PS1 in my math class and we played this game several times during our free time. MVC2 came out like a month or so after this released
I forgot whether i had the pal or ntsc version of xmen vs SF but you can input a cheat code to unlock infinite meter and crossover mode like this game but both players have to opt in by selecting opposite characters.
I played a drinking game where I took a drink for every "bro" and "my man"...I was released from the hospital 3 days later
This version of MVC was amazing I have ta admit it even tho a lot of people say it was trash wish I still had it
Man I remember loving this but then really getting my mind blown when I played the dream cast version a while later
I only rented this back in the day and always thought it was just ultra inferor because you couldn't play 2v2. Of course I was a kid and this was before the internet was as big as it was so there was no way I could have any idea of the stuff this version had over the arcade.
This is sick. It's like everyone is cable lol
I got a copy of this in my drawer that Ive had for the last 15 years
Word is it. Juggernaut assist is OD and unlimited
xvsf and mvsf both are like this
You can turn off the zoom on air combos
hold select then press start on the main menu you get more options and unlimited super bar cheat as well
I love both arcade and Ps1 versions
You should do a vid of Tobal No.1 Akira toriyama design the characters for that game is really fun and well made
My favorite mode would be the Crossover, whichever character you pick, will be the opponent's second character and vice versa choosing the opponent's character. I.E. if my enemy picks Wolverine, I'll damn sure pick Wolverine. So that's 4 Wolverines in the game
Justin pressing Start on Ryu allowed you to play as Evil Ryu Select does Ken Ryu
Zangief can become Mecha Zangief by pressing Start on him
Everyone also has four costumes
Venom can go classic Black and Hyper Venom can become Carnage
that zoom is so weird.I I wish this came out on the sega saturn, like they did with SF zero 3. It could of handled perfect with the 4MB ram cart.
Though the Dreamcast version is the very good perfect arcade port, the PSone version is by far the most fun and very addicting ver. ever. Capcom put a lot extra content than they didn't put on the Dreamcast which is why the PSone ver. has a lot more replayability
Is this real?
I swear those zoom in are the editor doing it lol.
Had to go back and replay this myself after and wow it was more insane than I remember it being, lol. Legit thought he was hacking but nope, lmao.
I played the hell out of this. I had to turn off that dynamic camera though. It always threw me off on air combos
They need to add this to fightcade
