They should’ve never took Scott off the roster for Marvel 3. To me he was Ryu’s true rival in MvC as a whole.

Cyclops was my anchor for a long time. To the point of I retired him from my team. He gave me my first 49 win streak, holding down the fort. Such simple confirms into such good damage or chip.
Why did you retire him?
@@acev271 He was too good at his job. After that 49 win streak, I pondered how much was Cyc and how much was me. (It's both of course but was still figuring that out) And too improve without his options, I retired him. I'd bust him out now and then, (he's been my boy from CotA after all), but it was more fun trying to find new team comp and figuring out how to deal with peepes picking the top tiers(tho not understand why they are or how to utilize em, just 'I was told/seen players use this') How I eventually came to Rogue, Hyato, Strider and the fun of the level 5 cross combination super they have. (Totes unnecessary, but satisfying)

@@CMCAdvanced Oh I did. We were all buddies and this was when the game was new and every week you bit the arcade to see who unlocked next and see how they fit your team synergy.
They were always nail bitters to the last character fights. I miss those days.
I really want Cyclops back in a new MvC. It's insane he was ever gone.
Cyclops was popular in the 90's along Gambit, but X-Men was all about Wolverine in the 2000's
@@RandalfElVikingo And Cyclops got cucked so hard. It annoys be because Scott Summers is a tactical genius (on par with Steve Rogers), and his optic blasts are not just tickle beams. If he allows himself to really cut loose, he can wipe out a few city blocks at a time with them. There's a reason Xavier chose him to lead the X-Men. The character deserves better treatment in movies and games.
@@protodevilin I always loved Cyclops design and backstory, I can't say he was my favorite X-Men but he earns his respect.
He could easily replace Captain American as The Avengers leader just by guts alone.

This is still like the pinnacle of 2D sprite fighter aesthetics. The level of style has never been topped, or seen again since.

100% what would have to be done for us to get a new version of this style of game????!!!!! Right? Double the roster, keep the graphic styling, same mechanics. It would be incredible.
@@Alienthehumanmaking it more efficient. 2D is a lot more time consuming to do. It's just not worth it when you can just have 3D models. 3D introduced problems but idk if they apply, gameplay wise, to traditional fighting games
@@illford6921 I can’t imagine it would be so time consuming that it wouldn’t be worth making though. Since when does something taking more time make it less likely to be successful? Not saying you’re saying that - I just think it would do very well regardless. Like the streets of rage remake was INCREDIBLE. It can definitely be done.
I disagree. The King of Fighters XIII has the BEST 2D sprites of all time. They are so beautiful I almost shed a tear. I suck at the game though, lol

I always liked Cyclops, since the Phoenix Saga. He was really relatable in that storyline. Then they downplay him in favor of Wolverine ever since. He also a decent play on games.

Never been the biggest X-Men guy, but he was always pretty cool in the shows.
He was always a great strong Boy Scout character. They nerfed him for antihero Wolverine as if you could only have one strong leader smh. If Fox had the MCU strategy then Cyclops, Wolverine, Magneto, and Jean would’ve all had films.
I remember discovering Scott’s secret OTHER command grab. I think it’s hcb HP up close and he’d grab them turn around and push them away with a beam diagonally upwards like he’d lift them into the air and at least half screen with just the force of the beam. It’s was sick.
Just looked it up. It’s on Srk. It’s called “Optic hold” but it wasn’t in the in-game movelist from the pause menu so I discovered it by accident and spent days trying to figure out the input.
He also has lungs in his thighs
Cyclops was always my favourite X-Men character! Every single game afterwards which he wasn’t included in broke my heart.

I like Cyclops’ ground combo where he charges at you and does like 5 hits. It works a lot like a sonic boom, you hold back to charge to press forward then button mash, I usually just press punch. Does a load of damage if it connects. Combine with an assist like DD’s rocks or Sentinel’s missiles. Also his double jump helps a lot with maneuvering around.
That's always my secret weapon. 😂
Love this series, super useful for helping new players understand the characters. It would also be nice a vid explain how to build teams and the role of each character in the different teams structure, like storm and Cyclops being batteries. Keep it up!!
Cyclops has always been my favorite X-men character since I was a little kid. I always hated how they made him look bad in favor of Wolverine. I don't hate Wolverine himself (I like him too), but I think he's a little overrated. Though I suck at fighting games, I'm glad Scott is good here and is getting some recognition.
My favorite character in the whole game too, love running him as a battery for cable with doom assist

He's my main in Marvel 2 as well because Wolverine freaking SUCKS in this game, both versions, so I had to replace him with someone competent like a Guile and use two characters I already really like from previous Marvel vs games (Cyclops and Colossus), Cyclops being the battery character, is the most important member of my team.
I remember how It was near the 10yr Mark of me having the game when i first saw his command grab. I was like “since when?”
I played this casually on xbox 360, I think I loved using Jill, Venom and I guess servbot? Don't really remember anymore, been too long now

Cyclops has a sliding special move also in which you didn’t mention. The special move looks crazy cuz he is hitting you while sliding towards you

Please make more of these. These are super fun to watch and helpful as a newcomer, as a lot of mvc2 meta isn't well documented.
Mothman is a genius I've watched a lot of footage of his M.O.D.O.K his flow chart for in comings are amazing with the jamming bomb into snap backs.

His name back in the day was The Battery of the Gods
Cyclops was iconic and should still be in the Marvel fighters. Another one I really like is Jin, even though he’s not that good. In all the crossover games, I rarely played SF characters. I had a hard time changing my style to play properly. Kept hitting fierce or roundhouse when attempting combos. Something about seeing a SF character made me revert to SF button commands.

He became one of my favorites when I start playing MvC2 again last week, now I need to be consistent on hit confirm to combos with this game.
One thing I like to do with Cyclops-b as an assist in something like Sentinel-Storm-Cyclops is when I'm about to lose Storm to alpha counter in Cyclops, they get hit, cancel to a MOB [Mega Optic Blast], and DHC HSF [Hyper Sentinel Force]. Cyclops sneaks back into the back slot, and now I have a healthy Sentinel to play with.
NIIIIICE show case on cyclops. My favorite version of cyclops is in XMvsSF. If you good enough with cyclops in that game or any character for that matter, you can infinity combo your opponent's character during death.
Specifically when you kill your opponent's first character keep hitting the character as much as possible while the character is stuck in fall animation. For some reason character's body becomes bouncy and makes it easier for you to juggle them.
i remember watching a set where Justin came back with anchor Cyclops and won and he's been one of my favorite characters in it since then, really fun pairing him with his son too to spam the crap out of projectiles

Ruby Heart is the Capcom rep not Ryu. Ryu was the main rep in XvSF, MSHvSF, MvC3. But in this specific game, Ruby Heart is the main Capcom character.
Would love to see cyclops back in some game, mainly know that DBZ proved that it is possible to have just giant fucking lasers supers and be cool.

Such an awesome game. We need yet another update on new consoles and on PC that handles the resolutions for us. Purchased MvC2 new for the Dreamcast, purchased it for 360, I think I have it on my FTP drive for PS2, and I'd easily pay $20 again.
Somewhat surprised it wasn't mentioned as to how he's the only character in the game with a defensive crouch throw (DB+HK) which can be a great counter for rushdowns.

I still love Captain America the most in MVC games. I know he's not the best but I just really really love all his moves. He has the shoryu, all the projectiles, a dash attack. He's just my favorite fighter of all time (mechanically).
I know nothing about tiers and etc but this is my favorite because of his style. He is so cool. Great to know he is a strong character. I never saw people play him at the arcades in its hay day tho.
cyclops was my go to when I played this game at the arcade at the local pizza joint. cyclops sentinel and cable were my team back then. had no clue what I was doing but I knew those characters were my best bet even back then.

Never played with Cyclops. I could never get used to his mechanics. But I've seen folks in the arcade literally rip people to shreds with Cyclops. I still have this game on my 360 and my PS3 too.

Cyke is very cool. Can do zoning and also pressure. Other thing is his infinite combo
btw Ive seen some good Ryu, who take advantage of the 1 frame super to punish assists or blocked supers. they also take advantage of his overhead and standing grab and launch mix up.. you know what i just inspired myself to make ryu work. lol

I own the game before someone says that in fact I own PS2 and Dreamcast so I legally can emulate right? Any recommendations on Flycast setups or would a MAME arcade run be better? I am able to run my VMU emulation and graphics seem fine but I am having some just absurb sprite responses the input is fine tho. Just wanna play it on my pc well any tips?
Honestly there's a lot of "assist only" characters i feel get really underestimated like this. Like sure captain commando's no Magneto or anything but he still has some sauce to him(particularly in regards to having pretty nice specials all around that allow him to cover a lot of space on the screen.)
Super educational, even as a person that doesn't and can't play competitively! Also it looks freaking amazing - is this the Arcade version / Mame, or is this like Dreamcast via VGA? Or like, PS3 / Xbox 360? Just looks incredible, great capture!!

I ran Cyclops as my first because he's all around good. Iceman in the middle for the same reason plus he recieves no chip damage on blocking. Then Iron Man last cuz of proton cannon.
My teams were Magneto, Sentinel, Commando and Magneto, Storm, Sentinel or Magneto Storm, Commando. Could play either team very high level in my opinion. To be fair, it was only 4 characters total. Sometimes I wish I never stopped playing. Till this day I don’t think a fighter makes me as happy as that one did. Making the difficult magneto combos look easy is ridiculously satisfying. I could do them all. I remember wasting hours at illusions and Gameworks here in Seattle learning how to play. I’d wreck for hours then move on to the 3rd strike machine to get smacked by the same guy every night. That was frustrating. His Oro ruined many nights lol
Goddammit I wanna play this game so bad. UMvC3 can only scratch that itch for so long.
I have two copays of the game for ps2 love playing it! I played elite fighter's at Frier Tucks arcade they taught me a thing or 2. Learned when u save 3 super bars wit,Iron man,warmachine, B.b.hood,use all 3 and get 250hit combo.
I haven't played MVC2 in a long time... why the smaller directonal optic blast instead of the screen filling one?

I mean when the 2 universes did their 1st crossover (X-Men Vs Street Fighter) Cyclops was the face of his team so of course he'll be top tier (besides the fact that he's also a great all-around character and his "optic blast" is OP)

Especially since the the 2000s they pushed for wolverine to be more of the poster boy of the franchise. Is there an actual reason as to why cyclops got cut, cause idk why they would even consider removing him from the roster.
Just curious, are Cyclops' supers interchangeable on hit? And are there any pros and cons over using one over another? I typically prefer to use qcf+PP unless I'm intending to bounce qcf+KK.
The kicks one combos in many situations where the punches one does not
@@jmcrofts I always thought they were interchangeable, as I usually super cancel into qcf+PP from a qcf+LP hit confirm even at full screen, or in air juggles. If anything I've ended up missing qcf+KK in air combos because I aimed badly during startup.
