    My first splurge for my shop. I love it. No issues at all and performs flawlessly every day. I don't use the auto metering insert on mine, didn't care for it. Love the stainless internals and I've dropped it numerous times to no effect. I was so smitten with it I bought all their soaps and a G8 and G9 DA. The stripping shampoo has an unpleasant aroma but all of them foam and work well. The DAs are far more powerful than the Porter Cable 7424xp. I'm looking at a cordless(likely DeWalt since I'm the battery line) rotary as I'm finding I need more power for some tasks and I cut my teeth on rotaries when I started back in the 90s. I had a big old Milwaukee that was built like a Sherman tank and was about as heavy. :) Have a blessed day.

    The question I have is... where is the innovation in foam cannons. The technology is pretty much the same on the cheapest compared to the most expensive. Buying the cheapest and then upgrading all the parts (orifice, weighted ball, pickup tube, filter, connectors etc it is still nowhere near the price of the most expensive.

    I recently bought a griots garage the boss foam canon and planning to use it on an active 2.3 pressure washer with mtm sgs35 gun. I want to keep it below 15 amps; how should i go about it in terms of orifice size and other factors producing great foam output? Im new to this so dont mind me asking a stupid question. Thanks
    Please note I havent opened the boss foam canon and can return it and instead go for mjjc, please let me know if mjjc is better than the boss to use with active 2.3?

    The BOSS cannon is a BEAST. To use the regulator tips, you have to use Griot's chemicals. This is the one you want if you're a pro because of it's hefty construction and mostly SS build. However, if you're an enthusiast, this is more than likely overkill. The Brilliant Shine cannon may have better results depending on your setup.

    I had a cheap foam cannon from Amazon & couldn’t understand why I wasn’t getting a nice thick foam. I thought it may have been the soap?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  9 місяців тому +3

      Sometimes even cheaper foam cannons can still deliver good foam. There are many factors that influence the quantity, thickness and richness of snow foam:
      1. Type of foam cannon (smaller orifices lead to thicker foam, but can potentially trip your circuit breaker depending on your setup)
      2. Type of pressure washer (a higher amount of GPM water output leads to more foam, so a pressure washer with 1.3 GPM will produce less foam than one that pumps out 2.1 GPM)
      3. Type of snow foam (not all snow foams produce the same amount of foam)
      4. Dilution ratio of snow foam (adjust the dilution according to your setup. Start with the recommendations on the label, and increase the amount as needed).
      5. Water quality. The better the water, the more foam and suds you get. So deionized water will always produce more foam compared to hard tap water, for example.

  • @chriscuthbertson
    @chriscuthbertson 4 місяці тому

    Without adjusting the dilution for the water throughput of each cannon this is not a fair comparison. Potentially the MTM just flows water at a higher rate, with a slightly stronger dilution it may produce comparable results. All foam cannon comparisons should be done with equal panel impact ratio.

    BOSS seems to have a wider fan pattern than Brilliant Finish. I have the Brilliant Finish and it's great, but the base is not the most stable and too light when empty, it stands upright but tips easily. Wide base of BOSS seems to fix that. My PF22 has been downgraded to Brakebuster wheel dedicated cannon and Brilliant Finish for snow foam. I might get the BOSS for the improved user experience. That way I have dedicated PF22 for Wheels, BF for Alkaline prewash and BOSS for PH neutral snow foam.

  • @watuzi
    @watuzi 9 місяців тому

    Why are they so expensive? It's mostly plastic for fuck's sake

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  9 місяців тому +1

      In the higher end ones, there's R&D costs for sure, but also much higher build quality. For example, the Griot's Garage BOSS foam cannon has a full stainless body and internals. That costs much more than cheap metal or regular brass. So the materials used is a big one.
      Can you get decent foam from a cheap $20 foam cannon? Sure you can, especially if you have the right setup (good pressure washer, deionized water, a good snow foam, proper dilution, etc). But how long that cheap foam cannon will last is unknown and it certainly won't be backed by a lifetime warranty like the Griot's. So it depends on your needs.
      People with a smaller budget who only wash their car once a month don't need a $100 foam cannon. Those who wash their cars more often, or value the warranty, or just like super high grade high quality equipment, can know they are getting top notch quality here. And it's built in USA. For many Americans, it's important to support local businesses.

    Hey Pan!
    I often hear that when using prewash foams (let's say Carpro Lift), we should always "neutralize" the prewash with a ph neutral mechanical wash after. Is that's just marketing so we get more stuff from the companies or actually really needed? I mean, lots of water rinsing wouldn't neutralize the prewash also?
    I've always done it, but being winter in Quebec, just a quick non contact wash sometimes would be nice when it's warmer outside.
    I'd like to hear your opinion on that!
    Thx!!

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  7 місяців тому

      Once you do the prewash with a foam cannon, you should always follow up with a contact wash. Not only to neutralize a stronger prewash soap, but also more importantly to actually fully clean the surface.
      The prewash can only do so much. It’s made to remove the bulk of dirt and reduce chances of swirls and scratches during the contact wash.

    Hey pan, so if i got this correctly, since the active 2.0 (that i own) have 2gpm, should i use a 1.25mm orifice or the 1.1mm would still give me more foam?
    I dont think i understood correctly... why use the 1.25 if the 1.1 gives more foam? Thanks!

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  9 місяців тому

      Keep the 1.25 orifice as you have a pressure washer that pumps out a lot of GPM.
      Using the 1.1 orifice is for weaker pressure washers typically below 1.4 GPM of water output

    I really like the stainless steel, brass on my MJJC is turning black as the reaction to chemicals is apparent. So, I don't like the filters on my MJJC pro, they 'wear out' too quickly. After a while the foam comes out as a watery mess. If I had a choice now I would certainly be looking at this one, what are the filters like? Also, I have a bottle of Gfx here in the UK, after K.C announced only 3000 bottles of Gfx made only for the US. Loads of places selling it here in the UK too

    I love my MTM cannon, the foam produced in comparison to others is milking mice in terms of effectiveness. Were I to replace it I’d have two solid reasons, 1) the threads are easy to misalign and potentially strip, and 2) when trying to clean the bottle out for storage the soap bubbles hang at the bottom and take far to long to get out, a PIA for sure. This is important for getting pure water through the cannon for the post use flushing procedure. Long term durability of the MTM is proven, the Griots will need prove itself over time/heavy use. When, if ever, the MTM goes off line I’ll for sure have the Griots newest model on my short list. Thanks for the enjoyable and educational content always. Be well!!

    Thanks to Pan the Organizer, I have become a foam addict. 😍 Got a foam question that's puzzling me for a few weeks. I use Adam's Mega Foam with my MJCC(?) foamer. The foam comes out thick and beautiful. I completely cover my car and then wash it... after I rinse it off thoroughly, the foam remains on the driveway and then flows towards the sewer opening by the curb. I have noticed that the white foam was so thick that it remained there for a day or two. The weather was sunny and warm. No, I did not use too much Mega Foam. I put about 1 tablespoonful into the warm water inside the foamer plastic container. So what could be causing the foam to remain outside after almost 2 days?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  9 місяців тому +1

      I like that! "Foam addict" hehe!! Yeah there are many snow foams that can be quite thick, and Adam's Mega Foam is for sure one of the thickest producing on the market currently. In my garage, I rinse my floor after the job and the water and chemicals go in the floor drains. So I haven't experienced the foam staying on the ground for 2 days like you have.
      Perhaps write or call Adam's Polishes and see what they can help you with?

    I'm hard pressed to believe there is any noticeable difference in cleaning results between a $100 vs $20 foam cannon.

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  9 місяців тому +1

      Oh it's not just the foam... Not all cheap foam cannons perform well, but yes I could find a $20 foam cannon that would produce an amazing amount of foam, as I also have a high quality 2.1 gpm pressure washer, I have deionized water (the cleaner the water, the better the foam and suds you get), and great snow foams properly diluted.
      Where the main differences are in more expensive foam cannons, is the build quality and some of the features you might not get on those el-cheapo versions. Some also value the warranty, like the lifetime warranty on the Griot's. They support the quality of their tool by putting their mouth where their money is with that kind of a warranty. And their customer service is top notch, as I noticed by the feedback in the comments. So for many, those are also all important factors.
      I see this as the classic "car conversation". Can an old Lada bring you from point A to point B just like a Porsche 911 Turbo S can? Sure! But we can both agree the journey in the Porsche will be way more fun, it also happens to look a lot better (ok I'm biased I own one haha), is better engineered, and will likely have better reliability.
      It's not because something is less expensive, and still "gets the job done" that it's a better purchase. Many people with a bigger budget want more for their money, and want the higher end higher quality product. Same applies to anything in life.
      But if you are happy with a $20 foam cannon, then that's great too. It doesn't matter. You buy what is right for you, and for your budget.

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  9 місяців тому

      I have deionized water so I’m guessing that helps with durability of components?
      Also, as I said in the video, it’s important to rinse out and flish residue out of the foam cannon after each use.
      So I empty the container, rinse it out, fill it with warm water, run that through the pressure washer for 30 seconds to flush out any chemical residue, then empty the container and let the parts air dry overnight.
      I always did this with my foam cannons and never had an issue.

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  9 місяців тому +1

      I like filling the container with clean warm water, as that also helps clean the pickup tube while it's sucking up the solution. Also, my pressure washer just uses cold water, so by having the warm water in the container, at least I increase the temperature of the liquid going through the foam cannon head which in turn just helps to better dissolve and flush out any chemical residue that might still be in there. But that's just my method. I'm OCD.
      But at least you are taking time to rinse the foam cannon head, which is a very good practice to prevent it from clogging with dried up soap residue. Failures usually happen because people neglect the maintenance.

      @@PanTheOrganizer just stumbled upon the channel since Ive been watching a lot of obsessed garage lately and have been putting together an entire pressure washing kit for my car and i needed a bit more info on the cannon as to its construction specifically the quick disconnect. Some background here but I recently bought a second hand boss cannon that I had to disassemble COMPLETELY and acid wash because it had rust due to a bad quick disconnect and poor treatment from the previous owner. It will be chrome plated to better protect against corrosion and imo it probably should have been chromed out of the box even if stainless is pretty corrosion resistant. with the amount of action these things see it just makes sense but regardless it will be a pretty unique cannon as I don’t know of any chromed boss cannons and I would probably recommend doing the same to others after my experience but that’s just me. HOWEVER Had I known about this kit I would have gotten it since I already intended to buy a lot of griots products and could have saved myself the trouble and just wanted to let others know.

    Pan. Thank you for your videos. I've been a weekend warrior for decades but had to stop for few years due to a back injury. Now healed up, I have come back to a whole new world of foam techniques and foam equipment. I watched this video, as well as your great video on the MJJC Pro V2.0 and S V3.0, and your multiple videos praising the MTM PF22.2. I had a comment and a question. Looking at the MTM page, it seems they took some of your advice, and now offer a wide mouth version of the PF22.2. A nice quality of life upgrade. I am strongly considering the Griots Brilliant Finish foam cannon. My concern is the fact that it comes with a 1.1 orifice installed. I've heard you mention several times that a 1.1 size orifice may trigger an overload on a 15 amp breaker, which is what I have in my garage. Do weaker (lower psi, gpm) pressure washers draw less amperage than higher psi, gpm pressure washers? I guess I could buy a kilowatt type device and use the 1.25 orifice first to see the amperage draw, then try the 1.1 orifice and see how much it pulls. I'll be using the Ryobi 1800psi, 1.2 gpm pressure washer that I've seen other detailers mention as a reliable and low priced unit.

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  7 місяців тому

      It's a little different with the Griot's Garage Brilliant Finish Foam Cannon. It does come with the 1.1mm orifice pre-installed, but they also supply the 1.25mm orifice.
      In the case of that specific pressure washer, they only recommend using the 1.25mm orifice for pressure washers exceeding 4000 CU (cleaning units). The 1.1mm orifice they recommend for pressure washers of 1540 to 4000 CU. And cleaning units are measured by gpm x psi.
      So in the case of your Ryobi, 1.2 gpm X 1800 psi = 2160 cleaning units.
      Even with my powerful Kranzle pressure washer, it's 2.1 gpm X 1400 psi = 2940 CU so I would keep the 1.1mm orifice for mine.
      So you would only need to swap to the 1.25mm orifice for high powered GAS pressure washers.
      Here are their detailed instructions: www.griotsgarage.com/content/pdf/51185.pdf

Bottles can be replaced easier than the cannon. I know it might require a bit more care but it is correct engineering! Re Griots: No spare parts. Can you buy more bottles with lids? They also have a full foam cannon rebuilt kit here: bit.ly/47ZlX9r
      And the Griot's BOSS has internal threads to which you can screw regular product bottles. For example, I'm able to screw the foam cannon head directly to a bottle of Koch Chemie Gsf.
      Griot's knows what they're doing. And they have great customer service, as is evident through viewers' comments already.
      Where I do agree with you, is that I would love to see Mosmatic make a foam cannon!
      By the way, which foam cannon are you currently using?

      That’s great - I wasn’t aware of the spares or the extra bottle thread. I am a harsh critic sometimes! I have mtm pf22.2 but I am always looking to upgrade. I did want to speak up about the narrow opening and the metal thread as they do have practical thoughts behind them as well as the drawbacks. I think I would prefer a standard narrow neck - it’s not a problem for dilution bottles. I’d like a mosmatic, full stainless, no dosing control, flexible draw with weight, no fan control at all & narrow opening 😮 perfect for my bilt hamber…

    Very well done, informative video, just started shopping for my first foam cannon so I've watched a 1/2 dozen or so comparison videos today and most of them have the Griots as #1, although there was some impressive ones at a much lower price point. Most likely going to go with the boss, although it looked like the cheaper Griots foam was actually a little thicker.

      Yeah there are tons of high quality foam cannons these days even at lower price points. But for build quality, for the sure the BOSS foam cannon takes the cake. That being said, there are other very very good foam cannons like MJJC Foam Cannon S V3.0, MJJC Foam Cannon Pro v2.0, Griot's Garage Brilliant Finish Foam Cannon, MTM PF22.2, etc.

      @@PanTheOrganizer I had pretty much made up my mind on the Boss after watching the other comparison videos, as I've always had pretty good luck with Griot's products (even though they're sometimes ridiculously pricey) but your in depth video on the quality of it and how well it works finally sold me on spending the $100, rather than buying one for $40 or 50 bucks that I might have to replace every or every other year. Amazon just delivered it and I can't wait to try it out. I also ordered a bottle of the Kochchemie GSF and a bottle of their Green star too. Thanks.

    I've used the Boss Foam Cannon for several years now and its best feature is the metering system and hooking directly to their Surface Wash bottles. No mixing or not making too much or too little soap when washing the car. You should try it. Love the video and all your reviews. Thanks

    The thing that drives me nuts about the PF22.2 is the fan pattern. The top and bottom of the fan sprays so much denser than the middle and this bugs me. Ive tried lowering the fan spread but it still happens. That BOSS looked like the lower had a weird jet off of it.

      Do you think your PF22.2 is clogged with soap residue?

      @@PanTheOrganizer I don't think so. It looks exactly the same as your pattern. It's been that way since purchase and hasn't changed over time.

    Dear Pan I respect you a lot for all your honesty and brilliant reviews. I too own 911 and used all your techniques and recommendations. It’s looks amazing. Thank you much.
    I own GG brilliant finish foam cannon - regarding this video, in my humble opinion, MTM has the best output ( it leaves even /uniform wet surface behind).
    Cheers.
