I bought the EX6 last October when everyone was complaining about grease fires. You quickly figure out this is an amazing hybrid between a pellet grill and a gas grill. Use it exactly the way you would any gas bbq and when you're going to cook ribs or any slow cook that will drip grease I just put a tin foil drip pan under the grates and on top of the flavorizer bars and there is NO GREASE FIRES...!! I have used this grill almost everyday for a year and if I had a fire it was my fault. I absolutely love how it cooks and there is no shortage of smoke flavor in the food. We have done pizzas, burgers, steaks, roasts, chicken, turkey, you name it and this grille is flawless. 10 out of 10 would buy it again !!!
Hey Gary, I have a few cooks on this now (videos coming soon) and I am really enjoying the cooker. However, for $1,000 I don't think you should have to put foil under the grates. I would've liked to have seen a deflector plate to use while smoking and flavorizer bars for grilling. But as I stated, I am enjoying it thus far.
Awesome job brother. I think this pit has some pretty cool things to offer. That said, there seems to be some head-scratching design decisions Weber included.. Looking forward to what you think of the pit! Thanks for the shout-out! Much appreciation! Cheers!
What impresses me about this SmokeFire Gen 2 is that it gets up to high temps real quick. Like the idea of not needing both a pellet smoker AND a traditional gas grill. Other pellet smokers take too long to get up to grill temps. Planning to move to the northeast and I am also worried about how well the SmokeFire insulates its temp during an overnight(during winter) smoke of a 20lb brisket.
Great video, new subscriber. SmokeFire comes tomorrow. I am a little freaked out but took the chance because I've seen videos that talked about how the SF produces great results but then so many YT videos of people not liking or even returning the grill. But nothing too recent. Figure we have a 100 days, right? Looking forward to some SF content
I had a few personal issues with the Weber EX6 that was deal breaker , the rear pellet hopper , the grease trap design , the temp range and the cost . $1599 from Weber the Front shelf Is $100 something you would expect on there top of the line . I smoke sausage ( 10 lbs a month )I need a smoker that would maintain 150 . The GMG 12v Jim Bowie meet my needs .
Great video. I was set on a traeger, but after looking around this came up. I like that it's double walled for better insulation. The pro series traegers are not. I like this one gets hotter alot faster also. It's so hard to make a decision when these things are so expensive. I checked for an updated video on how it does cooking but didn't see one. So how does it perform?
Hey brother, I actually have a video coming today where I cooked a prime rib on it. So far it has been flawless on the cook side of things. I will also be releasing a comparison video between this and another cooker after the New Year.
Awesome video as always, informative and in-depth. Ive got a Broil King gasgrill on my balcony and looking for a smoker for the cabbin (been able to get away with a gas grill on the balcony but no way im getting away with a smoker/bbq set) You should make a comparison video between a few different ones ;)
Thank you brother! I don't think you'll get away with a smoker on the balcony either, lol. I will be doing a comparison video for sure brother! Stay tuned!
No doubt it’s a hefty price tag, but I’m a firm believer in getting what you pay for! And I like to buy once cry once 🤣. Thanks for watching and I definitely have some killer cooks coming up on this beast 🔥
I was able to snag an ex4, brand new, for $350 after tax (normally $1,100). I'm about to make a brisket this weekend. Any tips or quirks I should be aware of about this grill for the best experience?
@@AshKickinBBQ looking to get my first pellet smoker and have always loved my Weber products. Currently do all of my smoking on my Weber kettle with a slow n sear. With your time using this one so far would you recommend it?
@@Dencoan awesome, I love my Weber with the S&S as well! So I would recommend it if you’re looking for something you don’t mind putting a pan under the grate too catch the drippings. The grease management system isn’t the best, but this is by no means a deal breaker for me personally. I love the way it sears with the flavorizer bars, and as I said I have had no issues smoking meats. Just for the larger cuts like brisket and pork butt I would put an aluminum pan under the grate to catch drippings to ensure there’s no grease fire. Also, it’s pertinent you keep the cooker clean. Vacuum the ashes, clean the grease, etc. but if you use a Weber kettle routine maintenance is probably common practice for you anyways!
@@Dencoan yep, if I’m doing a long greasy smoke I will. Sometimes right away, sometimes after an hour or two. I usually throw some water in there as well.
They did fix the grease drain problem, drip pans 😂😂 seriously though, use drip pans. It’s not so much the drainage that’s the problem, the ash mixed with the grease clog up the holes. Ribs are fine, but brisket and pork butt ( in my experience need pans ) I’ve had a great experience with this grill. Can’t wait for more vids.
Thank you brother, and I agree it is a design flaw. I guess I feel as if i shouldn't HAVE to use drip pans ya know? I have a few cooks under it now and I am enjoying the cooker! Videos coming soon!
Very nice and informative video. I've been trying to decide if I like this Weber or the Pit Boss 1600. I can't wait to hear your opinion on your first cook with this. I will say as of now I'm presently leaning towards the 1600 because of features, price, and warranty of the pit boss.

For the price a shelf should have been included ... my only downfall with Weber is they don't include anything more than they have to with anything you purchase
I don’t understand why sparks and ash fly like crazy with this cooker?? Makes no sense. Not sure if the fan is positioned wrong or runs to high or what but that’s def not good for any long cooks and you shouldn’t have to use drip pans or go out of your way to prevent it especially for a $1000!!
I hope you enjoy the cooker but to me this just doesn't seem to be worth it for the price compared to other options on the market, although I haven't seen it up close in person. It looks like thin sheet metal and there's no sealing anywhere. There's smoke freely rolling out of a 100 different places. Either way, thanks for showing it and hopefully we'll see how it cooks in a video update.

@ $1000 I would have expected a front tray. That ash is flying around the cook chamber and sticking to your meat and the sparks... no thanks! Horrible location for the temp probe, basically as close to the fire as you can get. No place to put a water pan except over the center, takes away cooking space when doing large cooks. Even with the lid closed, you can see ash flying around... By chance did you look at gravity feed charcoal smokers? Thanks for the review, you covered the material well.
Hey Randy, so I agree with you on the front tray. The ash wasn't an issue on any cook so far (videos coming) I actually love the location of the temp probe. It should be where the fire is to provide the most accurate temps, in my opinion. You can actually fit a water pan under the grates if need be. I have looked at the gravity feed smokers and I had a Masterbuilt. I wasn't a huge fan.
