    I have one of the first rubicon 500.. I just had my first part failure after 24 years.. the rectifier went😂.. not a lot of miles the past 10 years, but I use it every week on my property to drag logs and tow a wood chipper.. its an awesome machine…. I drive it like a tank and it’s never once let me down..

    The oil cooled engines seem to be the most reliable. Simple push rod engine less things to worry and I'd rather the 5 speed footshift for super reliability.

    • @rockspowersports
      @rockspowersports  2 дні тому +3

      The foot shift does remove more electronics, less problems.

    We had two 500 ES 4x4s since brand new, in 2019 one burned to the ground during a controlled burn and the other one refuses to die with 5800 miles/ 9334 KM and clatters like crazy 😂😂

    Those HondaMatic transmissions are an engineers dream, hydraulic pump driven variable swash plate, piston etc madness. I've read they're reliable but if it goes wrong, its nearly unfixable (outside sensors etc.) Great ride review as usual, I wonder if that lift kit on the Foreman was contributing to the rough ride.

    • @rockspowersports
      @rockspowersports  День тому +1

      Yes those transmissions have a lot going on… I really like the old Honda Rubicon 500 Hondamatic transmissions as far as smoothness and gear selection. However like you said when they go bad it’s almost the cost of another used wheeler to repair it.
      The lift in the foreman was certainly hurting the ride but even without it the Rincon is a much smoother ride than the foreman’s.

      @@rockspowersports Great info! I really never looked at the honda's as the rated HP was so much lower then other wheelers, but I can see now some of the reasons why they're so popular!

    Spot on video rock. The hondas including the Rincon are pretty slow and slow top speed compared to other brands. The end of the video reminded me of when my friend had his Rincon on the road with my 01 sportsman 500ho. The sportsman had probably 15mph on it.

    • @rockspowersports
      @rockspowersports  2 дні тому +1

      They’re not the fastest machines out there but most Honda owners aren’t looking for speed anyways.

    With the power steering models say you have a catastrophic issue and you cannot ride the quad back and you got to pull it with another one If the quad isn't running does that power steering make it harder to steer coming back then if you didn't have it at all?

    • @StephaneLachance-m7i

      Yes you are able to steer , but alot harder especially a sharp turn. the ps motor itself creates alot of resistance

    Why have a “lift” when the ground clearance stays the same with tire height?

    • @rockspowersports

      The only thing that stays the same height is the rear axle. The lift increases the rest of the wheeler.

    This is easy. The Foreman is vastly superior. I had a Rincon that I bought new in 2003. What a joke. That 3-sp torque converter automatic was awful. No lockup, sucked what little power that motor made. Top speed was 48 mph (on gps). No low range.
