I loved proxmox selfhosted and automation because of you, Every time I learn something new, Your content and your way of explaining things are precious
Great video Tim! For home automation I use a Logitech Harmony Hub for my media devices. I use HOOBS to basically bridge my Logitech and Garage Door opener to Apple Homekit without needing to buy a separate gateway. HOOBS has a huge list of supported devices and plugins and will run on something as simple as a Raspberry Pi. I'm running it as a VM distribution that i snagged from their website. If I could find a good Rancher config for it, I'd certainly consider consolidating that into the rest of my Ranch. I tried Home Automation briefly, but the only Apple apps I could find for it charged and it didn't seem to do much more than I was already getting out of HOOBS.
I love my Broadlink. I use it to turn my AC on and off, set temp, control my home cinema amp volume and sources. I use it with Home Assistant and also have a Stream Deck that I use to have quick buttons to commands.
Home Assistant rules. Have using in for over year and is incredible. You doing amazing job, keep in going. I wish you can do video how to set up own domain name for fome lab ( proxmox , nas , ect )
In the new firmware you can actually unlock the device. I have mine connected to the cloud as well as local access. In the broadlink application when the RM device is selected, press the three dots and deselect the option "lock device"
@@TechnoTim yes! I don't know when this feature came, but these are my versions: Broadlink RM4 Mini Data Cloud: European server Firmware: v52078 IoT Cloud: European server Plug-in version: 1.5.4 SDK: 2.16.8 App version: 1.5.03
are you still finding that this functions? I believe that this functionality was broken with a new broadlink firmware that ships with new devices by default
@@TechnoTim yea you got it! I appreciate all you do. Especially as a novice, I'm able to understand most of what you say. I'm actually a banker by trade (finance). Go figure.
I have thought of building the hardware to do this pairing an Xbox 360 remote. Yeah, I never did it and this looks better than anything I could build anyway.
Great video. I was wondering about the "Force Closing" the App. What would happen afterwards? Lets say that I have it locally - can I use it in the cloud again? or do I loose my cloud connection for good? Meaning Not being able to work with Alexa and Google Home, The way I have been doing for a couple of years now. I would like to know if we still have the Cloud as well as the Local control. Since when we started we had one way to communicate with the device and I was thinking on adding another way - not replacing the current. That would be great if we could have BOTH. I understand that the new mini4 is the one used in this video and also the one that needs to be factory defaults and reset back to work Locally. Please let me know if we are losing the cloud or we are adding local control to the cloud as well? keep it up!
Hey, your channel is a bar of gold for sure, learnt a ton of useful stuff. would there be any chance to make a video about Grafana and Prometheus? thanks a lot !!!
First, a thank you. Thanks for creating this. Now a minor ding. Google analytics goes against my idea of local. Can I just delete that template? Or is there more I will need to do?
Thanks for the heads up on this video, just watched it through and this is awesome. I can't wait to take a look at your project. I certainly don't think you have gone too far down this particular rabbit hole, have you ever thought about going further since then? I had thought about doing something with a raspberry pi before I discovered broadlink on your other video. To be honest though I think that I might benefit from doing a few projects before I get into that personally, just wondered what you thought of that or any other idea on this subject?
Hello. It’s possible install it on synology NAS and use it with Hubita Elevation (Homa automation)? I don’t understand how I can connetc this with Hubitat. Maybe it’s possible with Hubitat API Maker??? thanks so much
I'm a AV Integrator by trade and I tried Broadlink a while back and even tried to use it with Home Assistant for my own personal use and failed. I ended up building my own system by using a NodeMCU with ESPHome. I'm planning on making a Remote as well so it will be similar to the URC Total Control series.
Is there any way in home assistant to trigger something based on a remote? Like if I press the power button on a remote have it also control a different remote as well.
This is the perfect timing! Been struggling with adding broadlink to Home Assistant for a while. I've followed your steps and everything seems to be working correctly, but how would I go about adding this to Home Assistant as a controllable device?
great work! I've the old model, the rm mini 3, does this work with that, too? edit: don't mind, just saw your github, where it says it's compatible, good! :)
This guy took to long to get to the workings of the product I guess he's to self involved in himself. If you gonna give instructions about a device get to the device and to the point, not about all the other fillers you are talking about. We want to know how to use the device not about your podcast, your lights etc. It took him a long time to get to the point of the broadlink device and how it works. I didn't find his channel useful and had to search another to information. If you are hear to instruct us on the use of a device do get to the point and leave out the un-necessary fillers.
Have you thought about automating some IR devices at home? 💡

Nice! I also use HomeBridge!
Excellent work good sir. Cloud services tend to last a few years then go bust. You'll save all our butts.

I don't know when this feature came, but these are my versions:
Broadlink RM4 Mini
Data Cloud: European server
Firmware: v52078
IoT Cloud: European server
Plug-in version: 1.5.4
SDK: 2.16.8
App version: 1.5.03
Nice solution! I'm going to pick one of these up and try this out.
LMK how it goes!
are you still finding that this functions? I believe that this functionality was broken with a new broadlink firmware that ships with new devices by default
Is there any alternative version that can connect via Bus or Ethernet?
Amazing. I am looking to self host most of this stuff. Going to take a look about integration in to hassio or nodered
thank you! good luck! feel free to use my docker image!

Thanks Tim! Can your solution also be used with Openhab? Are you able to make it into an openhab binding?
I haven’t used openhab but mine has an API you can use as well as a UI
@@TechnoTim will this also work with RF devices in RM4 pro?
Great Video!!! Btw is it possible to self host LG thinq smart devices locally or via home assistant? Thanks!

Hi Thanks. Google analytics isn't installed with this. It's open source, check out the source code. No GA included.

Not sure, you've have to check HA

Thanks! You've have to check HA. They have lots of docs on this.
Techno Tim could you make a video how to add these buttons to home assistant?
Would this work with broadlink smart plug, how do you think?
Hi! I've only tested with the RM3 and RM4
‘-p’ is redundant when using host networking 😅
