    Quick note: The price of the Tuya ZS06 fluctuates a lot and there may be bigger discounts for first time buyers on the platform.

    This works really well with SmartIR. You assign the IR values to a file and then HA displays them as a media or climate entity. A fair bit nicer than juggling through different scripts.

    If you use script field, you can make a single script with dropdown for desired command. This way all your commands will be in one place, and scripts page won't be that convoluted.

      Scripts are indeed awesome. I route all my notifications through a script so I can control them in a central place, add new methods etc etc. Was a bit of an eye opener when I started using them a few weeks ago. This does indeed sound like a nice application for them.

    Wow, that is exactly what I need! My Broadlink can't reach my daughter's room, so my thought was initially to get an IR extender. But a separate ZigBee IR blaster sounds way better.

      Yeah, it’s a fun one to play with. As long as you can wait a while for shipping it’s really a steal for the price. Thanks for commenting as usual! 🙏

      WOW, you have a daughter that has spotty WiFi in her room and doesn't complain 24/7 😅😅😅 That's a true accomplishment.
      That or I'm misreading that and your current one can't reach it via IR. Good thing Aqara bought Broudlink so you know support will continue for their devices though.

    Didn't realize these were going for so cheap. Might get one or two and see how hard these would be to set up with ZHA, and maybe getting them set up with SmartIR as well. I've got some Broadlinks set up but there's other ACs that aren't controlled by them, and honestly I'd prefer having everything in Zigbee if possible.

    Aren’t you overstating the deficiencies of ZHA just a bit? I now have about 60 devices on my ZHA network and largely it works faultlessly. It’s my understanding, having spent some time researching it, that the ZHA vs Zigbee2MQTT debate has no clear winner amongst the HA community.
    Otherwise very interesting product, and great channel. Subscribed. 😊

    • @JoshFisher567
      @JoshFisher567 9 місяців тому +1

      You are correct, it will really depend on your devices, how many really are cloud based. I think the only device outside that that didn't work with ZHA was the Aqara FP2 and it took six to eight months to show up because it does a lot.
      The usage of Z2M is like cloud for zigbee, as tuya as many other devices. don't use tuya and run ZHA. I like that you can make a light "group" but it still uses the light domain with ZHA. Regardless each has to be updated and new devices have to be added to support so device support for ZHA is pretty close if not as good as Z2M unless you listen to or publish data to various MQTT topics for any reason which isn't super common.
      If you want to run HA to monitor and control only while the driver is decoupled, it’s better to use z2m.
      At the end of the day MQTT is just a protocol, the non official Bambu Labs integration gets all info via MQTT but it's not required to be installed in HA. It just works. I use EMQX, I only use it for Espresense but the web UI is much easier to navigate so there are options fore. Mosquito brokers also.

    • @SmartHomeTheory
      @SmartHomeTheory  9 місяців тому +1

      That’s a fair point. I definitely remember researching it last year and I got the sense Z2MQTT was considered better overall-but I only read a handful of threads so it’s hardly a large sample size. I personally had more success after moving over so there’s probably some bias in there too. Might be worth a whole video on its own, actually. Appreciate you bringing this up.

    We have a similar product, but we are smarter and added temperature and humidity display, so our product can control devices such as air conditioner or humidifier by real time temperature and humidity change.
    Are you interested in experiencing it and taking videos? I believe your opinion can not only help customers, but also help us to improve and upgrade our products to make us better.😘

    it is not bidirectional to see the status of the air conditioner and take advantage of automations

    • @SmartHomeTheory
      @SmartHomeTheory  2 місяці тому

      I don’t know how but it always seems to know if my aircon is on or off even if I manually use the remote. So yes, it does appear to work bidirectionally but I can’t explain why that’s the case here.

    This would have been awesome 10 years ago when I was designing IR-based systems, but today, nothing I ever set up has, needs, or benefits from IR. The legacy devices with IR support also have IR-in jacks which can work with direct voltage, but more importantly, they all also now have direct IP support via ethernet or wifi. And everything else has some form of Bluetooth remote. Today, HDMI CEC is the backbone of inter-device communication for AV (non-automation automation) and everything else IP.

    • @lawrencemanning
      @lawrencemanning 9 місяців тому +1

      That’s fine if you’re looking at stuff purchased in the last couple of years, but most folks will still have the odd (or many) devices which only have IR receivers with no other way of receiving commands. Otherwise companies like BroadLink would not have their product line.

    • @oscargraveland
      @oscargraveland 9 місяців тому +1

      Don't know many airconditoners that have bluetooth remote.
      Don't know any that have HDMI
      But i agree, 10 years ago it would be awesome.
      More imporantly, in my experience, those blasters with learned codes are hit and miss.
      My home-brew handles it all perfectly. Was using 3d party app on phone first, but it was easy enough to move everything over to HA

    • @SmartHomeTheory
      @SmartHomeTheory  9 місяців тому +1

      Yes! I currently use with Alexa myself. You’ll need to expose your scripts to Alexa. If you don’t have Home Assistant Cloud (Nabu Casa) you can look into Emulated Hue or Node Red. I have videos for both methods in the works so keep an eye on the channel.
