How could that critic say that Aesop didn't know how to rap or make a song properly ? Aesop is so good on the mic is blows my mind every time I listen to him! Great review myke ! Keep it up
Defo not my favourite of his but I still love it. Crack up every time I hear 'I dream of Jeanie, and fucking her obsecenly' on cook it up. Love El's line 'hip hop just started, it's funny how the most nostalgic cats are the ones who were never part of it.'
Thank you. You introduced me to this record, and its gone on to become my favorite album of all time. You've turned me on to so much dope shit over the years man can't thank you enough.
I remember when I first heard this album when I was about 7 years old, my older brother and I would always listen to music together in his car (he's 10 years older than me) and when the opening track started playing I was was speechless, I still remember the beat changes, my little mind was blown. We're Famous is still one of my favorite tracks, El and Aes can do the braggadocious shtick on another level.
+Myke C-Town I find that a lot of Indy Rap albums from the Early 2000s are perfect train riding music. Great review by the way. I know it may be late, but have you heard the latest collaboration album between Doseone, and Mestizo Muerte? It's called A7PHA. I only ask because I know you've mentioned Doseone in previous reviews. He's one of those early 2000 Indy Rappers I enjoy thoroughly.
Loving these Underground classic reviews Myke! Couldn’t have asked for two better albums to review than Funcrusher Plus and Bazooka tooth. I agree that this isn’t Aesop’s best work, but it’s not a bad album by any means. Just very experimental even for him.
Another moment that is worth mentioning is the 2nd verse of Greatest Pac-Man Victory In History. One of his best verses and in general one of the most insane verses ever.
I just recently got into Aesop Rock with The Impossible Kid, which I thought was super dope. This review just convinced me to give his older stuff a try as well
oh man you definitely HAVE TO check his older shit.. I personally like it a lot more than his newer stuff i'd say his newer stuff is more "focused" though Some of his older shit can be kinda all over the place and kinda hard to follow compared to his new stuff.. anyway yeah, check his album called "Float" its some crazy shit.. the album after that is dope too its called "Labor Days".. and then.. fuck it, check all them out lol.
I want to see a Backpack Classics video of Binary Star Masters of the Universe, and you should have Beezy on to talk about the album. This series is awesome so far! Big ups Myke!!
My favorite Aesop Rock album. I love the production on this album, i think the chaotic beats go great together with Aesops abstract lyirics and imagery, always felt the beats on this album felt like my brain fells when i listen to Aesop rap, like abstract chaos , more so then the folk sound on Labor Days.
Agree 100%. I always comment that this is what aesop is all about. Even tough it's not the first time he produced tracks it was his expression throughout that made me love this.
This the album where they released all the instrumentals and a capellas under the title Build Your Own Bazooka Tooth which led to so many great reimaginings of these amazing songs, and beats for other people to rhyme on
Went back and listened to this after hearing it was one of Danny Brown's all time favorites. Makes a lot of sense, very similar in tone to Atrocity Exibition
You saw that? I posted that too that Danny loves it. Need to get around to his solo stuff but every time I hear a verse from Danny on someone's track I immediately think it's fire. Last huzzah and hey kids are two tracks worth hearing his verses on.
I am surprised that Mike made no mention of the acronymic LSD verse on 'The Greatest Pac-Man Victory in History', as it is just such a lyrical tour de force. Can anybody else name a verse that is entirely written according to a three-letter acronym, as well as makes coherent sense? I certainly can't. It is mind-bogglingly brilliant.
i think every album Aes releases brings in new fans, ive been a fan since Labor days and nothing has ever hot me as hard since, but i have noticed he gets a lot of new fans after every album. I've seen different fans claim favorites and there is no consensus, his stuff is so consistent and dope that sometimes it's when you are introduced dictates your feelings. daylight is my all time favorite song, and that hook is still how i try live my life
First track I heard was a remix of no jumper cables but the time I actually wanted to see what his music was like was around the time of None shall pass. Very strong album too but when I came around to Bazooka Tooth after I felt that that was what aesop was really like.
Aesop was criminally underrated by mainstream music journos, but he never disappointed listeners. The Headphone Science remix of this album is fucking amazing also.
Killer album, the second half of the title track sounds like an inspiration for Danny Brown's Atrocity Exhibition: I wasn't surprised to see it's one of Danny's favorites. Favorite track off here is Easy: "Carbon and pre David-Goliath live Paleolithic bias, who walks on all fours dragging the cadaver of King Midas"
Skill alone nothing else, Aesop is the goat no doubt. He just takes the whole idea and art of rapping to the extreme. Its so amazing listening to him because you just never know what direction he is going to go in. The most skilled rapper alive and it may be a long time (if ever) that we see another rapper with the same skill level and originality as him.
Best Aesop Rock from Best to worst (even though the worst ones are not really bad) 1.The Impossible Kid 2.Skelethon 3.None Shall Pass 4.Bazooka Tooth 5.Labor Days 6.Float 7.Music For Earthworms This is not a joke. They get better and better throughout the years
I'd like to know since he said it wasn't this one. I don't think it needs to be everyone's favorite but as an aes fan I think their is so much to appreciate from it. Even murs loved it as he said on kill the messenger.
dudzi777 I definitely wouldn’t recommend this one as a starting point as the production is a little tough to get into and the lyrics are abstract even for Aesop. My recommendation would be his latest album “Impossible Kid”. Then after that, his second most recent album “Skelethon”.
I didn’t say he should put it last, but in my opinion it’s not one of his more accessible albums. I love the album, but for an Aesop newbie I wouldn’t recommend it first.
but dudzi will probably think of sleeping on it if people always put it down. I think it's a love it or hate it album from what I've seen. It's the most difficult to judge and after hearing everything I think it finally comes together. I know people can choose their favorites but sometimes we misunderstand. I felt that way about Atmosphere's Family Sign. It's not my favorite but I've re-evaluated it since it came out.
I hear ya man, and I’m not trying to knock the album because I think it’s great. I just wanted to recommend The Impossible Kid for him first because I feel like it’s more accessible. Then if he decides he likes Aesop as an artist then go check out Bazooka Tooth. It’s definitely a must listen for any Aesop fan.
i love the kinda grubby noisey low fi'ish sound on this album. I read some interview with aesop and he said this is his least favorite album and that he was just getting into pro tools when he was working on it and kinda went overboard.. which you can really tell on some songs lol.. still dope tho.
This is my least favorite Aes record by far. In my opinion the sound quality is off and it has his least memorable songs. Definitely a few impressive verses in there though
TFW you realize that one verse in "The Greatest Pac-Man Victory in History" uses each bar as an acronym for LSD
DLilly surprised he didn’t even mention that verse!
Literally just listened to this on the way home. I just closed the door and got the notification. Such universal timing.
SING MYKE
I would love a video on Demigodz vs The Weatherman
Thank you. You introduced me to this record, and its gone on to become my favorite album of all time. You've turned me on to so much dope shit over the years man can't thank you enough.
Long time subscriber, but I'll be honest, you rarely review music I already know about. Now this, I can finally sit back and enjoy the show.
this being aesops "worst" album really shows how good of an artist he is
Music For Earthworms is his worst imo. Bazooka Tooth is one of my fav Aes albums.
Worst? Who said that? Did myke say that and I missed it? This is one of if not his very best record. Easily my fav album of all time.
I was just listening to this album and I got your notification haha! Made my day
Great video! Freaked me out because I just got on another Aesop kick about 2 weeks ago and I’ve been blaring this album particularly
NO BATTERY! NO JUMPER CABLES! I enjoy Bazooka Tooth thoroughly. It gives me a rainy distorted day in the early 2000s kinda vibe.
Same! It's perfect riding the train on an overcast day music.
Man, I kept meaning to listen to it and kept forgetting. I'm sure I'm fucking up by missing it.
+Myke C-Town It's a damn good record. I tend to recognize your taste, and there's no doubt that this one would possibly crack your top 10 of the year.
Is it just me or did Aes's energy get way more hype for bazooka tooth?
Loving these Underground classic reviews Myke! Couldn’t have asked for two better albums to review than Funcrusher Plus and Bazooka tooth. I agree that this isn’t Aesop’s best work, but it’s not a bad album by any means. Just very experimental even for him.
Great video! I wished you talked about that crazy second verse on The Greatest Pacman Victory. That shit is so insane
Good album to start with, love Aesop and this is very nostalgic for me since this was my intro to him. Keep these reviews up
Another moment that is worth mentioning is the 2nd verse of Greatest Pac-Man Victory In History. One of his best verses and in general one of the most insane verses ever.
Great job Myke
I just recently got into Aesop Rock with The Impossible Kid, which I thought was super dope. This review just convinced me to give his older stuff a try as well
How could you not. This might sound like the exact opposite of IK but in many ways he still has sounds like this in the present time.
oh man you definitely HAVE TO check his older shit..
Thank you for this, Myke! My favorite hip hop album. Glad you say it is classic because I only ever hear LABOR DAYS from most people.
I want to see a Backpack Classics video of Binary Star Masters of the Universe, and you should have Beezy on to talk about the album. This series is awesome so far! Big ups Myke!!
Bazooka Tooth is a hard listen but I'm starting to love it. Great vid Myke!

Very dope review, a look back at the weathermen demigodz beef would be amazing cause even the weaker tracks had great lines
I like your reviews keep up the good work
This is amazing keep it up myke
This the album where they released all the instrumentals and a capellas under the title Build Your Own Bazooka Tooth which led to so many great reimaginings of these amazing songs, and beats for other people to rhyme on
This is by far my favourite Aesop rock album
Stone Cold Classic!!! Hail Aesop Rock! Great review Myke
my fav album of all time cus it was my introduction to the dope shit thanks for this
You finds all kinds of Easter eggs in a Aesop Rock album during multiple listens.
No mention of the LSD rhyme scheme, Myke?! kinda shocked you didn't shout that out. Seems like some Myke C-Town geek out fuel.
I mean...I could mention every single song but the video would be entirely too long.
When are you going to do end of the year best-of list? Can't wait for some black metal recommendations
Went back and listened to this after hearing it was one of Danny Brown's all time favorites. Makes a lot of sense, very similar in tone to Atrocity Exibition

Whoever did that writeup of this album is bugging, this shit is fire. NY Electric, We're Famous, Babies with Guns, etc... ALL DOPE
93 til infinity is fuggin awesome. So is Bazooka tooth!
Fun Fact: Danny Brown listed this in his 25 favorite albums.
Bazooka Tooth❤❤
i think every album Aes releases brings in new fans, ive been a fan since Labor days and nothing has ever hot me as hard since, but i have noticed he gets a lot of new fans after every album.

Aesop was criminally underrated by mainstream music journos, but he never disappointed listeners. The Headphone Science remix of this album is fucking amazing also.
When is that Weathermen vs. Demigodz vid coming? Would love to hear what you have to say about it.
Killer album, the second half of the title track sounds like an inspiration for Danny Brown's Atrocity Exhibition: I wasn't surprised to see it's one of Danny's favorites. Aesop kills it on this one. One of my top three of his.
Dope!!! you going to review Kristoff Krane Kairos part 1?
My fav Aesop album is Float or Skelethon
Review Cold Vein
Supa Dope
most underrated aes project imo. The comic book shit was funny as hell, plus it had some great beats. I never understood why it was hated so much.
It was the same situation; I got the album from Tower Records.
My favorite album of all time.
"The greatest pac-man victory in history" is probably my favorite Aesop Rock song. That last verse is insane
Best Aesop Rock from Best to worst (even though the worst ones are not really bad)
1.The Impossible Kid
2.Skelethon
3.None Shall Pass
4.Bazooka Tooth
5.Labor Days
6.Float
7.Music For Earthworms
This is not a joke. They get better and better throughout the years
Labor Days?
???
Nah, already too praised. Bazooka tooth is aesop incarnate
Possibly a...Labor Days...review?..maybe? plz
What is your fav album of his if you don't mind me asking?
I'd like to know since he said it wasn't this one. I don't think it needs to be everyone's favorite but as an aes fan I think their is so much to appreciate from it. Even murs loved it as he said on kill the messenger.
If I wanted to get into Aesop Rock, is this the album you’d recommend starting with? Or is there another that is a better starting point?
dudzi777 I definitely wouldn’t recommend this one as a starting point as the production is a little tough to get into and the lyrics are abstract even for Aesop. My recommendation would be his latest album “Impossible Kid”. Then after that, his second most recent album “Skelethon”.
I personally think bazooka tooth is how he wanted to represent himself the most. Please don't put it last because of what some might say.
I didn’t say he should put it last, but in my opinion it’s not one of his more accessible albums. I love the album, but for an Aesop newbie I wouldn’t recommend it first.

Review First Born and the many Faces of Oliver Hart
be a patron and vote then. I'm glad he got through this one early. Glad people voted for it.
Cook it up
Bazooka Tooth BITCH... love this record, love to know what kinge and beezy think o this
WHO'S THAT WALKIN WITH A WHOLE IN HIS HEAD????
i love the kinda grubby noisey low fi'ish sound on this album. I read some interview with aesop and he said this is his least favorite album and that he was just getting into pro tools when he was working on it and kinda went overboard.. which you can really tell on some songs lol.. still dope tho.
you sure that wasn't music for earthworms? He couldn't have said that but I think he did step down a little bit for none shall pass
Can you review a $uicideboy$ album?
I can’t get into this at all, every other Aesop album I can tho
Aesop was on his ultra B boy shit on this album
Bro Aesop is godlike tbh
I like super fluke
This is my least favorite Aes record by far. In my opinion the sound quality is off and it has his least memorable songs. Definitely a few impressive verses in there though
Somebody tell me what the fuck backpack means
Big Aesop fan but never understood the appeal of this album. Labor Days is far better. Bazooka Tooth was a miss album for me.
I love this album but for real I hate this album cover, it's disgusting.
So.. Patreons get to choose whichever album YOU want to review? Just great.
Why was that confusing?
Yeah how dare the people who support Myke get some sort of privilege over non supporters?
HAHA HAHA I've seen you comment on a few different vids and I feel like you only say stupid dickish shit lol.
1st
