    "the production outshines Aesop"
he did most of the production himself though...

I actually agree with feefo about Aesop's voice. Not saying he doesn't have dope lyrics and word play, I just really like his flow and voice

HAHAHAHA At 8:05 when the guy in the background walks to the other end of what looks to be a kitchen, doesnt it look like he just disappears?? Like, doesnt it look like its a solid wall, and not 2 rooms (Kitchen and Other room where everyones talking) cause of the kitchen window lines up with door frame or the other room. It looks like he was going to walk behind the one guy, and then out of nowhere just vanishes hahahahaha. Anyone else get what im sayin?? Anyways, good review guys!! :) Aesops a legend. You guys should totally listen (If you already havent) and do a review on Cannibal Ox - Cold Vein. By far one of the all time greatest underground albums that has ever been created in my opinion. A true classic.

He's not trying to say "How important pets are" he's trying to say "some people just can't let go of the past". I think his entire album is about this.

RTJ is light fare compared to Skelethon. Production-wise Aesop took El-P's ball and ran with it.

Man i love Aesop. It took me a while to get into him but he's become one of my favorite rappers. I was afraid that he had lost it after that hiatus, but he's still got it. if anyone liked this album, you should check out in his Labor Days album. it's one of his best.

So you don't listen to any of the old def jux roster? El-P? Are you familiar with the Weathermen or Atoms Family? Early Anticon.. I could go on for days. Do you mess with Hail Mary Mallon with Rob sonic and Big Whiz? Rob hangs bar for bar with him.. you are entitled to your opinion, I just think that you are limiting your scope man.. I rarely read comments because there is so much trash talking.. I'm not coming at you as an asshole, just assuming you may be overlooking some artists you would enjoy if you listened to more artists.

    • @krem1982

dont be a "disciple" of aesop rock, or any other artist you admire. instead have respect for them, and aspire to make something equally as inspiring. people love to join groups, belong to cliques, or develop identities around the work of someone else, but the fact is when you sign in, that'd how culture fails. this world has followers and leaders but i want to live where everyone is equal, because equal doesn't mean the same, it just means the same level, people being equal could still be unique and respectable

sorry but many of aesop's albums have been very personal not just this one. That being said aesop is a lyrical genius and one of the best producers in the business.

It took me awhile to realize that. The reason is because of song means being vague. Once he began opening up with skelethon I listened to the previous stuff more clearly.

I honestly have not been remotely interested in an Aesop Rock album since Labor Days, but the beats are bangin' and he's spittin' his ass off on this one. I might have to cop this one.

The Levee Breaks in the same verse, that I didn't pick up on until I understood the Zoso part.He uses the same structure for the next verse, with"Zulu" meaning zulu nation.a hip hop fan.also given away by mention of Afrika Bambaatta. The next verse doesn't really include any explicit mention to an artist, but includes "punk's not dead".The whole song is mostly about how music often facilitates rebellion.with each person described being rebellious in someway, writing on school desks, graffiti,

I love the moment on bazooka tooth where he spendsa whole verse starting each word with L,S and D and it says LSD like 100 times. Wish him and el-p hadn't fallen out.

  • @Eziokilla9595

I agree. Aesop's lyrics can be interpreted many different ways, while Illogic spits some of the most clouded / crystal clear lyrics ever, if that makes sense.

You can, but you'll likely be fooling yourself. After appreciating the great hip-hop of Aesop Rock, possibly the most creative artist to ever spit in the game, AMAZING flow, mind bending lyrical skill, AMAZING production. Aesop is truly a top 10 hip-hop artist.
After all that what do you really see in ASAP rocky?
Aesop Rock is like having an entire library, ASAP Rocky is like have the back of a fucking Cereal box.
That's why its hard to believe you like both, feel me?

  • @mykectown
    @mykectown 12 років тому

That's hard. I think they're both incredible and I guess I like them both for the same reasons. They both have pretty complex lyrics that take dissecting although Illogic is a little easier to pick up. With Aesop is really all about interpretation. So I don't know if I can really answer that, ya know?

I thought this project was incredible. It's the first Aesop album i've bought but i'll definitely be getting some of his older material. This is easily my favourite album this year (of any genre) and probably the best hip hop album i've bought since Eyedea & Abilities released 'By The Throat' in '09. If you're struggling to get into the storytelling on some of the tracks I recommend watching his explanations on 'TheRealRhymesayers' youtube channel. Thanks for reviewing it.

It took me a while to really dig this album as well, but Crows 1 was the first track I fell in love with and is my favorite track on the album just because the production sounds so crazy and all over the place on that track! I also like Ruby 81 and ZZZ top.
This is one my top 5 list!

... the discussion would involve your interpretations of his music w/o being sullied by Aesop's explanations. That would have been an incredibly interesting watch - I just want to see people talk about this dude. He's too interesting to be treated like every other rapper - even if you don't like his music.

I feel the opposite. He makes a lot of references that are pretty easy to connect with if you grew up in the same generation and culture that he did. He makes a lot of off hand references to literature, television, music, movies, etc that I find really easy to understand. It's a lot harder if you don't relate to him in any way.

When he was saying take out the brain leave the heart in I'm pretty sure he was reffering to how the ancient egyptions thought the brain was a usless organ and they would take it out and they would leave thier heart in when they were being mummified because i think they believed it was essential for their after life or somthing like that And he's comparing his love for the cat by referencing mummification of his cat to the egyptions who also mummified cats and beleived they were gods
