@@AndrewRooneyDrums I grew up with a father constantly playing The Beatles, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel and many more! He played drums in a classic rock cover band. I hope to find myself fortunate enough to buy a kit and learn to play someday!
Excellent job. Love that song, and that whole album. Such a great bass line over that beat. Tony Levin and Manu Katche made a fantastic rhythm section.
Blimey, that brought back some memories. My girlfriend at that time was a Genesis/Peter Gabriel nut (her cousin worked in promo' side of their record company so, she had everything they'd recorded for free), I'd seen Genesis as a warm up band - they were relatively local to me and I wasn't so impressed. Then Gabriel left the band and started his solo career, it was transformational for both the band and for PG. I went, with said GF, to see Gabriel's solo show (a touch reluctantly I'll admit) and was blown away, he started with "Jeux Sans Frontieres" with himself and all the other stage singers walking through the audience, singing the song, all with masks on so no-one knew which one was PG. It just got better and better and is probably one of the best live solo act shows I've seen. For me, Genesis with Phil Collins as vocalist was also a move forward, we duly went to see some of their shows too, and even when covering the older stuff (Nursery Crimes et al) were enhanced by not having the overblown costumes stuff. Been a fan of both ever since and PG's Sledgehammer (video made specifically for MTV) is one of my favourite songs. Lovely drumming mate, just thought I'd get some memories out there before the brain atrophies and I forget.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums I’m looking through your Channel now, omg how did I not see all these 🤯 I thought you only had an e kit…😅 I’m going to burn in hell, sorry!!
Andrew, Loved the cover. This really takes me back to high school. A very innovative video at the time. The album really showed Gabriel had some reach after leaving Genesis.
Manu Katche could say a million things with a flam stop ! .. love this song ( and everything Peter Gabriel ever did ) . Peace and love brother you made it smooth ..✌💚
Very relaxed. Excellent job. Have you seen the version Harry Styles did for the Howard Stern show? It seems like in that version his drummer opens the hi-hat a lot more.
Good cover, one of my favourite songs to play along to. I know it note for note, but I find it's a good one to build my own ideas from. Also, thanks for showing the sheet music for it. I can't really read myself and following it as you play is a great way of learning. Incidentally, is Manu Katche not one the most unjustly underappreciated drummers?
Fun to watch (and an absolute favorite song of mine). Question from a non-drummer -- it was easy for me to follow how the drums were notated in the transcription, but I'm curious to know when you get onto a kit with a bunch of additional drums (think: Gavin Harrison's kit on Anesthetize), how do you end up notating that? Do the cymbals just get pushed up higher, or...? It seemed like some of the "notes" on the staff in this transcription ended up doing double duty for a couple of cymbals, but I can't imagine that would work for drums that are tuned low to high.
Great question Mike. You are dead right. You can add cymbals/toms ad infinitum just into higher ledger lines. Toms on lines as opposed to in the spaces
well happy birthday Mr Rooney if it's wed in New Zealand yet still Tuesday here i searched this one after watching someone on Alesis strike pro Wich sounded great so i wanted to hear it on a real kit so the first video i think the guy was playing it right, but his floor tom sounded terrible not sure if it was tuning but went back scrolled down not far and here you are again with notation superb and your floor tom on that vintage or vintage looking kit sounded great exactly like it should i had no idea this was such interesting one on the drums awesome execution and concentration face lol
Just for grins, have you checked out Harry Styles cover of Sledge Hammer on Howard Stern last year... Sounds so much like a younger PG..! Be an enjoyable tag along.! Thx. J
@@damnyankeefl Oh right! Well spotted. I was reading off the PDF. There can be small discrepancies between the rolling video and the PDF. I played everything in the PDF. I did put the big triplet fills around the toms for fun at the end as opposed to staying on the snare :)
