Fluval FX6 Canister Filter: amzn.to/3OLJEaH
Thanks for the tutorial. Im planning on doing this to a 180 that im looking at picking up, only difference is that it has 2 overflows, one on each corner. Looking to plum the inlets and outlets together and use 1 fx6 along with the fluval uv light for the fx that is now avalable. Just needed to know what tubing to use. Only thing I'm thinking that would improve for my needs is add a small piece of pipe for the inlets to add a pre filter for my needs since it will be for fresh water. Thanks again for the video.
That should work fine. I love having the 2 separate FX6 filters. More filtration, even though I don't really need it. I can't find that uv light for the FX6 anywhere. No one seems to have it anywhere.
Hey man!
hey
It be nice to see the top set up for us not so familiar with this kind of tank. Meaning we're exactly do you have the in an out coming in an out of in the tank itself.
The canister filter comes with everything you need to do this. There are two U-connectors and the hoses go from the filter to inside the aquarium. Just like the old school fresh water fish tank kids had in high school. I have no use for those parts so they stay in the basement.
@ROTTERtube I understand but the exit line is what I wanted to see. How do you have it sitting is what I want to see. I'm a visual person. Thanks for your time.

Thinking about doing this to my 75 gallon reef. Any regrets about not attaching a ball valve from the outflow to the filter? I’m imagining filter maintenance would be tough with the set-up as-is.
No ball valved, just wide open. I didn't want to add anything to the mix and mess with the flow. It's wide open and perfect. My brother did the same thing. no issues. What maintenance? Just remove the canister, empty it out and replace the foam. Is that what you mean?
Been using sumps for ling tine 30 years . Never had a sump overflow
me either, but some people have....but I did have one that formed a crack. salt creep everywhere. very slow leak and crack.
I have a 75G & thinking of getting an fx2. Any updates on this one.? You think its enough for a reef?
the update is I love it. Still contemplating on doing the other side. I have the 2nd FX6 ready to go.
@@ROTTERtube thats awesome.! Yeah i saw the video of your 125g with an fx6. I think overfiltration is always a good thing.
But for the 75, is FX2 enough? Or should i at least get an FX4?
@@Francis.Rivers Get the fx6 for the 75 if you have room ,you wont regret it
Where will you be putting the skimmer?
There will be no skimmer for his tank. I just did the same thing with mine but I'm keeping the sump and skimmer on one side with canister on the other. May go 2 canisters. video to come.
@@ROTTERtube I am planning to setup a fish only Saltwater tank...50 gallons...is an oversized canister filter enough for the same...it will be a medium bioload like 6-7 fishes only
@@shahrukh1612199 oversized would be better. I just setup on on my tank as well. I have an FX6 on one end and my sump on the other. My tank is 125 and the FX6 is good for a 400 gallon tank! I may put a 2nd FX6 on it....not sure yet. My water looks really good after a few days with the canister!
Any long term issues?
no, but you need to change out the filter media once a month, to keep things clean. just like changing out filter socks, you need to clean stuff. I really love these filters but due to back issues, I went back to a sump....taking both of these out to clean them once a month wasn't bad, but for me, my back wasn't liking it. not really heavy, just cumbersome...awkward....getting them out from under the stands.
@@ROTTERtube Any noise issues? Sucking or gurgling?
why no pre-filter to the cannister inlet?
Too far down in the overflow.
SO YOU JUST HAVE TO MAKE SURE WATER IS ALWAYS TOPPED OFF SO WATER IS ALWAYS GOING IN TO OVERFLOW TO SUCTION??
ALSO HOW DOES THE CANISTER FILTER ACTUALLY SUCK UP THE POOP IF IT HAS A OVERFLOW COVER
That's right. The water will evaporate from the overflow.
overflow cover? The cover won't affect it. It will work the same way as if you had a sump.
i wouldnt have used that stand after it got that wet honestly. they are only held together with trim nails to begin with. thats scary😬😬😬
He's getting a new one. Just did this for the video. It's being torn down in preparation for the new tank after the floors get replaced. Lots of work.
Never do this . Plug this bulk head . Up . Put the canister way supposed to .
?
@@ROTTERtube I assume hes meaning plug the tanks bulkheads and have the canister hanging over the back of the tank the way its intended but this will be fine.
Why? I HATE seeing cables outside the tank. This works great.
@@chicagorc3967 yeah, that's what he meant. Nothing wrong with the way I did it. Works really FN great! love it!
