  • We drive up to the Dalton Wash trailhead to check out the ephemeral pools. Our fear was that they would have already evaporated, but we were in luck! Plus we did a little experiment on some dried out moss. It was a great day!

The students who were in ANY of your classes are very fortunate indeed. Thank you for taking this hike to the ephemeral pools. I remember playing with moss like that it is something else to watch. You know the finest things to do. While on that road up, I was thinking if they have made improvements to the road, that road must have been a super treacherous one. Pretty good navigation by Jim, I must add.. Thank you again 💓

Loved the moss experiment. Your ephemeral pools are very much what our vernal pools are here in California. I grew up across the street from them and had no idea of their significance until in my 30's. Thanks again for sharing the beautiful scenery!

As a biology minor and retired elementary teacher, who LOVES to teach fun details about nature and creation, your moss experiment was a delight to my day. Backpacking in the PNW is like going into the Original place of worship for me... totally understand your sense of healing there. (Although lightening is quite disconcerting when I'm outside 🙏). Thank you for the wonderful food science education you've given me and the sense of caring friendship you impart to us all. 🤗(for Pam) 🤗(for Jim) ps nutty bites recipe?

Thanks you for the videos. I always enjoy them. Pam, you might want to take a look at the wall over your sink, where the two lights shine. It looks like a big, green, mossy, amorphous mass on the video. You may want to change the lighting or put something over it when filming. It is really unusual.

Oh my goodness that frightened me so bad y’all going up that mountain. I just knew y’all were going to meet another car. Oh my that part of the road being washed out and y’all driving over it. It was all a little scary to say the least but those pool’s and the Moss were interesting. You Two be careful out doing this stuff. All ways let someone know your going before you go. Enjoy!

Loved this journey. Your pools remind me of California's vernal pools which are disappearing at an alarming rate due to construction not global warming. I used to travel HWY65 every day on my way to and from work. The pools and wildlife I saw everyday was just wonderful. From white cranes to the Great Blue Heron fishing those vernal pools, coyotes, and so many other birds. Mostly all gone now due to the building of homes and businesses. Oh "they" tried to protect them but that is a joke. Occasionally you can see a few of the birds I mentioned because this was/is a portion of the Pacific Fly Way but not like before😢. Sad when mankind thinks they know better than mother nature. The calls that come in every year to Gold Country Wildlife Rehab from home owners who have bird babies and other wildlife young still trying to live in these islands of wilderness that really aren't is so sad. Where we lived we did our very best to remember the critters were there first and we live pretty harmoniously with them. It was our duty to protect our domestic animals from the wild things not the other way around. Our county biology science officer was invaluable for his information on how to keep us both happy.
Oh and on my phone your Apple took clearer pictures than the GoPro😊..
Wonderful trip. And yes even my garden can bring me calm but the wilds? ❤❤🌷

Thar road was a little scary. In times like that, I would rather walk. 😂
