The first time I heard this was in 1999, when I was locked up in jail. It was on a PBS special. It was a beautiful thing to hear, in a place full of ugliness and unwanted noise. Hearing it touched me deeply. And it has stayed with me all these years later. Today my life is drastically different. Growth and the passage of time have rendered a responsible middle-aged man. I wonder if hearing this, at that moment, had a small part in it? I like to think so. 😊

Hearing it now makes me smile with happiness with the times we had together but it’s tainted with sadness that he’s no longer here. Losing him on Father’s Day makes it that so much harder. 18/6/23.
