Hi Wes !! Parts came in the mail Friday, and This afternoon, 11-19-22, after spending a Saturday AM, I finally was able to maiden my 550x !! She landed in one piece too !! HAHA You are right on target in your opinion !! This heli is HUGE !! I never left Normal mode, and mostly hovered and flew back and forth on the runway since this is the first time I've ever flown a heli bigger than my 360. But, I learned to relax more, and feel the mass this thing carries. I'm running a 5K flight pack and when I got home, the bathroom scale shows the total aircraft weight at 8 pounds. IT definitely feels VERY different than flying a 330S or 360. I'll take her out again tomorrow, and try the different head speeds. I told my wife, "I'm more nervous to fly this heli, than my level of nervous when I soloed an R-22 ! The human brain is quirky at times...Definitely glad I bought this model !!Talk soon sir! Also, I've been told on my 360, that when it is making the whining sound like yours made, it's my gyro gains too high. I turned them down in 5% increments from stock settings, and it only took 10% total to make my tail settle down. Hope that gives you a place to start your research.
Hi Curt! Yay!! That is great news! I'm very excited for you! Such an amazing heli I was so sad to hear what happened, but now yours flew WOOHOO!! I'm excited to see it! I've never flown anything bigger than my 330x before either, wow what an experience to fly the big ones! I had to weigh mine to see what it was, can't believe I hadn't done that yet, also using the bathroom scale mine says 7.6 lbs. right with yours in the 8ish range, of course it would be I'm also running a 5000 batt. I'm also very glad I bought this model! YOU'VE SOLOED AN R-22!!? That's awesome! I bet that was so much fun but scary! Thank you so much for your thoughts on the tail shake, sometimes I feel a little lost on where to start when diagnosing these, but my research has pointed me that way and you suggest the same thing so that's what I will try next! I love connecting with people on here, everyone is so helpful! Thanks Again!
@@kingfamilyrc5376 It turns out I had neglected/misunderstood the nose hold part of gyro set up, which caused my garage mishap. Live and learn. A friend helped me get the gyro part set in my TX, and away we went ! The R-22 was quite an experience. I'm about halfway on my training. here's the link if you would like to watch. ua-cam.com/video/1KVCkrCBH4k/v-deo.html I'm headed to our field in a few minutes. It's a mild day here in the Dallas area. Mid 50's makes it comfortable. Till later, all the best!
That's good you had a friend who could help you with the TX! The R-22 solo flight looked amazing! congrats! I didn't realize you had you doing real heli stuff on your channel, I need to look closer! I'm going to go watch more of your real heli flights! I love helicopters!
I see in your other video that you fixed the wag . That’s something that you’d want to land and sort out . If you do go to a 700 that tail wag can get extremely violent. The 550 is a nice step up even from a 500. I have one of each . Nothing is like the 700 but the 550 serves its purpose extremely well . You can take it to a small field and throw down without needing as much space . I still fly my 500 and 550 as much I remember going from 27% fixed wing to giant scale at 46% and it was a revelation. Doing 3D aerobatics was off the hook impressive. Especially with a smoke pump. When you go bigger though there is more pucker factor lol. Terrifying, exhilarating and costly if you dumb thumb it haha . Writing as watching this video- you just said finger inputs are or can be confusing. It’s much like learning a second language . If you’re having to translate it, it’s very slow and cumbersome but once you gain the muscle memory and you can fly without thinking about it that’s when becomes really awesome fun. Of course this video is now a year old so I’m sure you’ve gotten a lot of air time under your belt and are flying like a pro. Cheers man 🍻🙂🇨🇦
Have you done the 600xn auto gear and the front torque gears to make the tail ratio to a 1:4.5 giving you much more authority in the tail and you can run lower head speeds and still have the tail nicely locked in 👌
HOLY COW IT'S ALISHANMAO!! I've been watching you for years! Hello Friend!! I'm not the best at 3d yet but I'll give it my best! Got to get my tail shake fixed first, then I'll give it the best 3D Smackdown I know how!! Thanks for watching and commenting! We would love to fly with you someday!!
@@kingfamilyrc5376 Big thanks buddy for following and supporting my work. Tail shake, if its not gyro, its the loose tail rotors, (play in tail rotors, sometimes bearings give up) or play in servo arm / connecting rod coming to tail rotor. sometimes those are the culprits. like my KDS 550 it has lots of tail shake, because its getting old and tail rotor bearings have a play :) but i still smack it 3D. Keep flying, thats a sweet helicopter. and waiting to see your 3D flight. and yes, hope some day we can fly together. you are in USA right? i hope to visit USA next year.
Thanks for giving me some ideas, I think I will start by dropping my tail gain a little, I noticed my tail blades were a little loose in the grips so I'll tighten them also. Your KDS 550 is also a very sweet heli I enjoy watching you fly it. We are in the USA yes, that would be SO fun to fly together! Wow.. How long have you been flying helicopters..? I'm very new and just getting into this.. I'm waiting on my RF sim to arrive and going to purchase the Blade 120 s2 for my first heli.. Great job on your second flight with this beast..!
Thanks!! I bought my first helicopter in March 2020 so I've been flying almost 3 years now and I can't stop! I LOVE the helicopters! My first heli was the Blade 330X but quickly bought a Blade 230S V2 because the 330x was kinda big and scary and had no S.A.F.E. mode, I flew with safe on the 230s for about 2 weeks then was able to go back to the 330 and feel comfortable. I still feel kind of newish to it too but it's been a while for me now I guess. That's great you're getting RF! I try to fly on mine as often as I can, best tool ever for flying! We've never had the 120 S2 but we do have the 120 S, and to be honest it gave us lots of problems, hard to fly, couldn't handle any wind, loss of RF and more. We got it for Halie's first heli and she practiced and practiced and still struggled, as soon as we decided to give her the 230S V2 her skills instantly improved, and she says it just feels way more stable and in control. Maybe the improvements they made to the version 2 make it a lot better, but I would highly recommend the 230S Smart (same as the V2 just smart) It's stable, can handle crazy amounts of wind, can take a crash and go fly again, plus with the S.A.F.E. mode it feels even better than the fixed pitch helis, plus plus the 230S V2 is in RF so you can practice with the exact heli and it's crazy how almost identical it feels, if you can do it on the sim you can do it in real life for sure. Don't Give Up! I can't count how many helis i've smashed in real life and even more on the sim! Thanks for watching/commenting!! Happy Flying!

I remember in one of your videos you mentioned that after researching you decided to pick this model. I wonder why particularly this one and not something else like 500 class or 470 or 600?
Hi Cute Fox! I wanted something that was big in the sky, the 500 and 470 size I didn't think would be that much bigger than my 330X, a little bigger yes but not into the giant size. This 550X Dominator actually uses all 600 size parts, the boom, the frame, the head and links all say 600 on them, but they managed to get the 600 to fly amazing with 550 blades so it's still a medium size heli but barely. I also wanted a 6s heli, the idea of charging one battery per flight vs two batteries sounded very nice. I very much want a 700 or 800 size heli with 12s power someday but I also wanted something to go to in the future. If I went from my 3s 330 to a 12s 700 I would have nothing to go to after that and as much as I LOVE LOVE this Trex 550X I love still having the excitement and anticipation of knowing that I can get a bigger more powerful heli in the future. Also, this was one of the most complete kits I could find and being my first kit heli build I was a little nervous going into it, so many ESCs and servos and flybarless units and receivers and power options to choose, this kit I only had to get the receiver, battery and EC5 connector to soldier on. I would also love to get a 470 still, I've heard those on 6s power are very fun. I spent a LONG LONG time looking at different helis and for the price, size and performance of this heli I thought it was the best heli for my money in the middle size class and I still do think that. After having it for a while now and having flown it a bunch I'm still VERY HAPPY with this heli! It keeps blowing my mind on what it can do! Always fun talking with ya! Thanks again Cute Fox!!
@@kingfamilyrc5376 I agree, 550 seems like a good balance between size and price, also 1 battery instead of 2 is a good argument too, as well i agree that it is nice to keep something bigger for the future. I guess you probably could go right to even 800 class later instead of 700 haha, or maybe you still would like to take it in two steps, first 700 then 800, though i'm not sure if there will be too big difference. I kinda fell in love with this 550 heli too :D not only for it's nice colored canopy and long body, but also for awesome sound of blades! Awesome. I definitely would go with this one, but for now it is too high for my budget, so i have to consider my older idea of getting 470LP. Though i worry that the difference between 470 and 550 would be not too much and it would spoil my future impression of 550. You know what i noticed? On videos big helis looks awesome as well thanks to seeing actual blades rotation! I think i will be really missing that during real flights, because in real i will see just slight disc instead of actual blades :( or maybe if you use very low RPM, you actually could see blades at least slightly? Nice to hear that :) it's also nice to talk with you too! You give interesting detailed replies and i like that.
Hello again Cute Fox! I would love to step from 700 to 800, I think that's the way I'll try to go, but even if I didn't go in size steps, I don't think I would lose excitement. I want ALL the helis, big and small so I guess either way works for me! I'm fully addicted to helicopters now and I see no end in sight! I very much still want a 470 also and I don't think you would be disappointed if you did the 470 first before the 550. The 550X is still much bigger than the 470LP, the 470 sounds amazing actually, it is still a 6s power system but the blades are only 380mm (even though they call it a 470) so it should never get boggy no matter how hard you throw it around. The 550 is swinging actual 550mm size blades so the jump from 470 to 550 should be a very big jump in size for you still. YES! The blades look so awesome!! and the sound is amazing!! I can still run my 330X at low RPM and see the blades pretty good still, my wife's 230S V2 with it's orange blades looks AMAZING in the sun even with the smaller blades! Also, I'm very impressed with the blade sound I can get off the 330, not so much the 230 though. I wonder if it's the drop in size that creates less blade noise or is it that the 230 has plastic blades and the 330 has carbon fiber blades? I think the carbon fiber has a lot to do with the crisp blade sound more than the size. After talking about helicopters I really want to go fly now!! Talk with ya later and have a good night!! Thanks again!!
@@kingfamilyrc5376 Haha, that's a good enthusiasm towards helis from you! I guess you not always want to drive big helis, sometimes fun to fly small helis too :) Yes i was estimating the blades difference between 470 and 550, and the rotor diameter difference is around 40 cm (15.7 inches) which is probably not that bad. Though if compare the blades only, 17 cm (6.69 inch) doesn't impress me much, especially if i take my tape ruler to see the difference haha. But maybe if see the heli in the person, then maybe it will be more impressive. Though, i just recently watched your new video of 550 flight, looks impressive and much nicer after videos with 470LP :) as about 470LP, i agree it still can make nice sounds, saw many videos with it, it especially sounds good on low RPM. I see :) the orange blades look probably even better during flight than white or black ones. As about sound difference, i believe it is still the size what mostly makes blades sound different, according to my experience with RC airplanes. But i wonder too if carbon material can influence or not. Brief googling didn't give me good answers :)
