  • I had some company down the field today so decided to make a shot clip demonstrating the spirit geolink v2 in action with the position hold feature and also the data logging for the speed which resulted in 110 mph

    Those batteries look like 5,000 milliamp each, if your batteries were in parallel you would have 10,000 milliamps but in series, as you have it it's only 5,000 milliamps.

    Great ! Please tell more about auto hover or position hold feature ?
    I am interested for scale flying, with a rescuer on a whinch, position hold if precise and reliable can be very nice for this

      Awsome, firstly you will need a spirit flybarless unit and secondly you will need a geo link module, I currently have on on ebay at the moment for sale, you then simply select the which features you would like the spirit/GeoLink to do and assign them to a channel so you can flick in and out of the different modes. If it's justified scale flying yourself after then I would select stabilisation (scale) this will assist you in some smooth upright scale flying

      @@danieljohnston1111 Hi Dan thanks for your reply :)
      I took a CGY770R in the meantime... I know it doesn't have auto hover feature but I know and use Futaba stuff for years ... But will keep an eye on GPS stuff for the future.
      Cheers

      If by lips you mean lipo, then in colder weather it's always good to gently fly the model for a minute or two too get some heat into the lipo to get the full potential out of it when you demand those Amps with high load situations

    • @danieljohnston1111
      @danieljohnston1111  Рік тому +1

      Hi Martin, Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't recommend using GPS for any kind of takeoff and landing unless you lower the vertical / horizontal gain right down but even then I don't know how much id trust it for something as precise as landing etc.

    In my real-life flying, I’ve always been a fixed-wing, airline-kind of aviator. When it comes to RC, starting with DJI drones, I’ve come to appreciate *STABILITY*. Now, expanding my RC flight into helicopters, I’ve come to appreciate the attitude stability of my OMP M1 & M2, but as for going larger, I believe this gear from Spirit may be just the ticket. I’m very interested in seeing how the GPS can be used to enhance stability but also having an RTH is an awesome safety feature. I almost lost my M2 in the sun as wind pushed me over some trees on my property. I got it back and landed with just a bit too much adrenalin to call it a relaxing flight. Pulling some UP collective and activating RTH would just be so great. I see from my fellow commenters, I’m not alone in avoiding all this convulsive stick-banging of the 3-D world. Perhaps, if I wasn’t so ingrained with 40 years of smooth real-world flying, it might have more appeal. I’ve subscribed to your channel and am looking forward to seeing what you can do with the Spirit! Thanks.

    I tried the Spirit units with geo link but didnt get it to my liking , Old Naza H works a lot easyer and after al those years its still the best of its kind

    • @danieljohnston1111
      @danieljohnston1111  Рік тому

      Yes I used to use the naza V2 few many years ago and it was very accurate, trouble with Spirt is you have adjustability over all the settings so it it's critical your fully setup before even thinking about geo link working accurate, I still have the odd niggle but full of hope 😂

    Hello
    Position Hold and Altitude Hold do not work properly. What is the cause?
    There is no defect on the mount and setting.
    Is it a problem of noise or vibration?

    I purchased a Spirit 2 with the Geolink 2 several months ago and spent so time getting trying to get position and altitude hold to work.
    Just can't find the right settings to keep my new OMP M4 stable - it just wanders around and you can see the corrections taking place (just not smooth):(
    One the other hand I have a much less expensive Fly Wing H1 on my Align Trex 500 FBL and it's GPS position and altitude hold is flawless! I KNOW the Geolink 2 has more potential but so
    far software for it needs more work. I am told there is an update coming within the next week or two. Hopefully it works better. Don't get me wrong but the Spirit 2 works great by itself and is much
    more versatile then the H1. It's just how stable and smooth the H1 is when in GPS mode (only complaint is the tail moves when you stop pirouetting). Also to set up the H1 the transmitter has to be in airplane mode....not a big fan of that. So you can't customize the throttle and pitch curves, or any other features on the helicopter menus.
    The Geolink 2 needs to have a more defined neutral zone where the helicopter remains at the current altitude. This is middle stick on the H1. Now just get the corrections to be a lot less noticeable, with smooth changes:)

      Hi mate, I have been down a similar road to yourself and had to reach out to spirit many times for help and support. For the geo link to work accurately you have the have a helicopter that's setup 10000,0000% precise and one of the man things for pitch pumping is that when you setup the swash using subtrim feature the blades have to be 0°
      Once the helicopter is bang on then it's time to add the GeoLink, alignment using the (set temporary zero) function is important and then slowly lower your vertical gain to iron out any pitch pumping. Iv not had to mess with horizontal gain, all of my helicopters are between 550X and 760X size. Hope you get it sorted mate

    What is difference in v1 and v2 geilink?

    • @danieljohnston1111
      @danieljohnston1111  Рік тому

      Hi Robert, as far as I know it's an update to the processor and there is a opening in one corner on the underside which has some kind of light sensor or lazer for better accuracy when using auto land, I think it takes over from the barometer when it's at a couple of feet to slowly touch down.

    • @robertlunatic
      @robertlunatic Рік тому

      @@danieljohnston1111 aha! Ok sounds legit. But would you share your settings? I have geolink v1 and spirit GT.. but i gave up the alt/pos hold. Its just not working. @@robertlunatic yes I will do another video setting up soon, I had exactly the same issues, rescue was blistering fast.. In expert settings turn up the rescue smoothing factor, that should hopfully make it smoother, as for the geo accuracy did you temporary set to zero to mount on your boom in exact alignment with the FBL unit?
