- In this video, i'm showing you detailed steps in blacking out the rear grey center trim using Carbon Fiber vinyl wrap from removing the panel, installing the vinyl wrap and putting the panel back.
Materials used (time of purchase was in September of 2020):
1. VViViD Black True R Carbon Fiber Vinyl Wrap
Sold by: VViViD Vinyl, fulfilled by Amazon
www.amazon.com...
2. Vinyl film toolkit: GISSVOGEEK Vehicle Vinyl Film Tool Kit for Car Wrapping,8 in 1 Car Window Film Tinting Tools
Sold by: Gissvogeek, fulfilled by Amazon
www.amazon.com...
I like this set, you get 8 different tools for $10 and i used all the tools in this set. Complete good tool for the money (i purchased this with my own money in Amazon)
3. 3M Knifeless Finish Line Vinyl Wrap Cutting Tape 10 Meter (32 Ft).
Sold by: VViViD Vinyl, fulfilled by Amazon
www.amazon.com...
At the time of purchase in Sept 2020, it seems that this is just an unbranded knifeless tape but it turned out to be 3M Finish Line trial size of 10 Meter (32 Ft)
4. Heat gun/ Hair Dryer
5. Masking tape/ Painters tape
6. 10 millimeter socket wrench
I posted a separate shorter video showing you just on how to remove the panel only in case you want/need to remove the panel but not interested to see the Vinyl wrap installation section:

PVC sprinkler pipe is a huge help when installing vinyl. For this install you can have it at the ends like a scroll. It applies pressure equally across the sides unlike fingers which cause wrinkles and creases
Oh wow, great idea thanks for the tips! I’ll do that on my next vinyl wrap project
I'm doing this in the next hour!!! ❤ Thanks for this
Thank you for making this video (and your other videos)! I just ordered the materials in your links from Amazon and will be doing this next weekend.
Awesome good luck and thanks for watching!
nice video
Great Job! I hope you do the Lower Panel next!
Thank you! Yes I’ve been thinking about it, stay tuned!
Hi! I was wondering if it would be ok to make reference to your video in describing some work I did on my R4P.
Your video was very informative in how to remove that center trim.
I purchased a kit that converts that grey part of the trim into a DLR light and turn signal bar. There were no real instructions that came with it on installation. But your video was handy in showing how to remove and replace the trim. (I did not make an installation video .) The installation went fairly smoothly. Most everything you did in your video I had to do.
Nice Job on the wrap by the way!
Hi yes, you can mention my video and provide the link on the description for sure. Not sure if you're going to do this in a video or blog post. If you're doing a video, I'd say don't take the actual clips of my video and put it in yours because it's going to trigger youtube copyright strike. I had someone took 2 min clips of my video and upload it as his video in his channel and he got copyright strike.
Thanks for watching, I'm glad that it's helpful!
@@Otthox Thanks. No, I'm won't use anything of your video in mine if I make one. That's why I would link to yours for further detail on the task of disassembly and reassembly. I would just be showing the end result of how the light bar looks and works, and where it can be obtained.
I plan to open everything up again because I want to add a lighted toyota emblem on that rear trim. So I may make a video showing the wiring routes.
Again thanks and good job.
Looks really good.
Thank you! This is probably the hardest wrap I had to do and I'm not a wrapping professional... But the end result is really good, it's been a year, the wrap is still holding up great and I still love it!
Great job! I was wondering why you didn't separate the grey trim from the white panel? Won't it have been easier to fold the bottom in like you did the top of the grey trim? Thanks for the video!
My thoughts exactly, i dont see the reason to remove the wwhole panel if the grey piece wasn’t completely removed.
@digidoc911 i think the reason to remove the whole thing is for comfort. With all of the curves, it is very difficult to install the film. Plus, he wanted to fold at least one edge over first to be able to stretch the material.
Looks dope
Hello, I recently took my RAV4 Prime in to have this done, and the installer did an absolutely terrible job - they didn't remove this trim panel and tried to wrap it in place. As a result, they damaged the rubber seal right above the gray piece, and the job looked absolutely terrible. I ended up not paying for the service, but now I want to replace this rubber seal - does anyone know if this can be done without removing the rear glass?
Looks good! Congrats
Thank you!
That looks good!
Thank you sirr!
What happened to the masking tape?
I was thinking the same thing. It's not there when he peels off the excess
Great job, Gerald! To my LE Hybrid metallic gray color, I'm planning to wrap the rear center trim with Vivid Red gloss to match the color of my RAV4, and to accent it with color red. What do you think?
I think that’ll look nice! I like red accent as well, good luck!
I like what you doing i wanna do that on my rav 4
I want to know more things on your RAV4
quick question, how big of a vinyl did you get/need for that and how long did everything take? I don’t have a garage so I’m wondering if it would be better to get shop to do it for me.
The vinyl size that I used is exact on the link under the video description… Not gonna lie, took me long time 5+ hours to do this, but that’s also because this was my first time wrapping
Hi, thank you for sharing! The carbon fiber turned out great! I might’ve missed it in the video, but does covering that piece effect any sensors or efficiency of the vehicle? Like for example, I understand the front emblem has a sensor and that’s why it cannot be blacked out.
As far as I know there is no radar sensor behind that panel on the back. I have that on my car for over a year and haven’t had any issues. And yes you’re right about the front emblem, there is a radar sensor right behind the front emblem but I don’t see it for the back panel and scent had any issues.
sorry to be so offtopic but does anyone know a tool to log back into an instagram account?
I stupidly forgot the password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Finn Lucas Instablaster ;)
@Jad Casen thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
@Jad Casen it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my ass!
Does that trim detaches or comes apart?
Not anymore than what he has done!
bro i got rav4 in sydney, i want to make this black as well, ang pangit tignan, buti ka pa you're skilled
Hey awesome man! Yeah definitely looks much nicer in black, it’ll take some patience especially if you never wrap before but if I can do it, you can too!
what size vinyl did you use for this project?
I used size 1.5 x 5 feet, which will give you 2 attempts in case you messed up. Here is the link which is also in the video description:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YLFPETM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@@Otthox did you cut it in half first then? I didn’t realize.
@@scottbrown-xveganxedgex2799 yes I did, I cut the vinyl wrap in a half first horizontally so I had two chances. In cases I messed up the first one
🤝👍
Thank you for posting this idea.
However, it is important to note that dark colored vehicles have a very shallow visual field depth at night for which shiny reflective surfaces are a great help.
It is not uncommon for black vehicles to have rear end accidents at night when visual conditions are not optimal when compared to vehicles with light colors or that have reflective materials.
Great job! The only thing is since you car has no carbon fiber parts on its body I'd use glossy black film so it would match the rest black parts. And PLEASE get rid of that stupid (IMHO) and the only one chrome part of the car - the window trim. You can use the same method with the film or better yet just put the 6 pieces rain guards which you can buy from e-bay. Use ONLY 6 pieces, because it designed to cover completely and perfectly the whole chrome stripe along the windows. And only then the black out of you car will be completed. Thanks and good luck!
Thank you! You know for the longest time I contemplated if I should use gloss black so it flows better with my black roof or carbon fiber. Decided to finally use carbon fiber coz I just can’t help it, I’ve always liked carbon fiber pattern... lol
Yes I am going to wrap the chrome trim with gloss black vinyl wrap, I already bought the vinyl wrap. After wrapping this grey piece and my headlights (with the bio pulse hex tint, I also posted the video on UA-cam) I need a break from wrapping Lol... I’ll do it this coming weekend and I’ll post the video on UA-cam
@@Otthox Thank you for respond. Well, if you like the carbon pattern, then I 'd recommend to decorate it inside the car. There are a lot of carbon panels on sale and in this case you will be seeing you favorite color/pattern while driving. Outside....that for the eyes of bystanders...LOL. Anyways, great plan with the black out! You have a taste. Good luck. Looking forward to see your project completed.
P.S. Any idea WHY on earth Hybrid XSE doesn't come in black?
Alfa Alpha lol yes that’s true.. but those carbon fiber panels for the interior are quite pricey on eBay and almost all of them ship from China... I’m looking for something that ships locally within the US.
Yeah don’t know why there is no black XSE hybrid... maybe because all the XSE hybrid are two toned with black roof so if the body is black there is no contrast with the roof
@@Otthox You are right. It's pricey and then you have to wait for a couple months. Did you change your bulbs inside the car to LED? How about back-up or turn signal lights? If you decide to I can guide you through. I don't have video, but it's easy to do.
Alfa Alpha i actually just changed the rear turn signal & reverse light this weekend, made a video and will post soon. The reverse light is super easy, to remove the turn signal lights, man it’s hard... steps are pretty easy but you need quite a bit of force to pop the light off the body.
Took me this long to do it coz there are already other people making the video so I’m not overly excited to do it, plus just trying to find good light with good value is quite overwhelming... there are so many LEDs out there now in the market
