Thanks Mike. I’ve been gone a couple weeks on vacation. Came home and go rear ended on freeway. My car is totaled but I’m fine. Didn’t mess up my guitar hands. So I’m back in the guitar saddle and enjoying your weekly lessons.
Thank you Mike. Always enjoy happy memories hearing this song ... and now I can play it .. 🙃. Have a great time in Mexico; full-on Autumn here, in the UK ... 🌂
Thanks so much Dean. For this video I used a Taylor pick which is basically a rebranded Dunlop Ultex 1.0. I am now using a Blue Chip Kenny Smith 40 (also 1.0 thickness) which yields a mellower, less harsh sound. The Blue Chip picks are ridiculously expensive, but worth it if you play enough. Thanks for you question!
I like it. It’s not the way GL does it - he plays an strange E5 with no third, but I guess if you dampen the first string you’re achieving the same and you have the flexibility to bend the odd third here and there on the fourth string. I like it.
For me, this one's on the Top Forty 'til the End of Time. Great job, brother. Gord would be proud. I learned to drop D with a capo in a punk band. We left the Big E open, though. What guitar is that? It sounds a lot like my Hummingbird.
Nice take on this song but if you want to play along with the record or just do it like G.L. this is the wrong key. Lightfoot does use a capo on the second fret but the song is in F# not in E. The first chord is F#5 which sounds complicated but is easy. With the capo on 2 and using the capo as the bar the chord is 0-2-2-4-0-0.
Thanks FR! Agree… my goal is not to replicate the original, but to provide alternate voicings for guitarists. Those wed to copying the original have a tough time with my approach.

Thanks cousin John!
Mike my digital friend, my wife said just today your guitar playing sounds like music. You friend are one of the reasons, thanks
Aww! Glad the lessons are helping LiNO!

Dang Duke! Thank goodness you are OK. Thanks for the comment, and here’s to your good fortune!
Thank you Mike. I've always loved this song. I bought GL's album when it came out and this takes me back to a great time in my life.
Thanks Luke!
Excellent video. Appreciate you taking the time to show us all.
Thanks Bryce!
That's a wonderful sounding J-200
Thanks WG!
This is great I immediately started playing it comfortably and singing along. Gordon was dad's favorite, so anytime I can get more Gordon, the better.
That’s awesome xyz! Thanks for the comment!
Always amazing Mike! Thanks so much for posting! Another great song addition to the repertoire! From a fellow veteran “hacker” !

I thought this particular capo trick was mine alone! That's awesome. The same idea on the fourth fret resulted in some extreme prettiness for me . .
I discovered it about 30 years ago, Leif! 2nd fret D shape. 4th fret C shape. All good. Thanks!

What is that device in the sound hole ?
It is the volume control for the LR Baggs pickup system, which was not used in the video.
When I was little I thought this song was about a black cat. 😆
Maybe the cat wore a dress!
@@campfire_guitar_lessons yeah that kinda gave it away as I got older and realized. Great song, nice cover. 👍
@@jefferyscott8875 thanks Jeffery!
Kind of cool- but not even close to how Gordon plays it.

Mike stop strumming so muck ,it interferes with your cord changes THANKS bil
I could have dampened more, Bill. Agree. Thanks for the feedback.
