In this week's project I try coloring woodturned bowls--a figured maple bowl with color dye/stain on the outside and natural on the inside. I picked up this bowl blank from my local Rockler store. Coloring wood bowls can be fun and creative!

Don't let anyone talk you out of coloring the wood this way! I think people get jealous because they didn't think of it.♡♡♡♡♡
Haha. Thanks!
Keep coloring! It is what makes your work special.
Thank you so much 😀
The bowl is beautiful. The blur and yellow made a lovely green. Plus, you can still see the unusual grain. Love it!
Thank you very much!
Gives it a specific personality that will make you look twice. Beautiful bowl!
Thanks 😊
I now know that I like coloured bowls! Think it highlights the grain and you can still see the natural colour etc on the inside. 😍
I totally agree!
I am not a green person, but it was my mothers' favorite color and she would have loved it. It is a very nice peice as usual.
Awe, thanks! 😊
It looks way better finished than it did while you were dying it.💜💜
Right?!
Peggy i am one of those ppl who don't like coloring wood but I have to say you made that look really cool. I may have to change my thinking and actually try it sometime. 😁
Go for it!
@@PFWoodturning also I sent you a couple emails the other day with bowl photos. Take a look when you get the chance.
Another great looking bowl, love the green color.
I’ve been doing gun stock work for over 35 years. When working with Birch or any other hard woods that don’t have much color, the technique of staining that you used, is pretty much the same that is used to add color and figure to the stock. Basically stain with a dark color alcohol base dye and then sand most of it off. Then apply a lighter color.
Don’t worry about those that hate colored wood, there are plenty of people that love it.
Cool! Right on!
It turned out to be a very nice set of shades of green. Well done!
Thanks, Gail!! Happy New Year! 🎆
Peggy yet another beautiful masterpiece i love the green and especially the way it ripples through the grain 👍👍👍
Wow, thank you!
I am one of those purists where the use of colour on turned wood is concerned but your creative use of colour has changed my ideas - especially as you usually leave the inside au naturelle. This is a lovely bowl and it was such a pleasure watching it all come together. Thanks for sharing this Peggy and I hope you have a happy and safe 2021
Thank you so much 😀 Happy New Year!
love the Beautiful color of green nice grains and Finish with Acks Beautiful work
Thanks 😊
I love your voice, makes watching your videos very relaxing
Oh thank you!
Another beautiful piece Peggy. Thanks for sharing it with us
Thanks so much 😊
I quite like color on the inside and plain on the outside. My favorite sort :) The other variations are good too, of course. This one looks lovely, as always.
Thanks 😊
Very nice bowl. I like the coloring because it does not cover the grain. You have the artistic touch with color. TY & Take Care
Thank you very much!
I don’t have a problem with color as long as it looks amazing like this did. It’s a very artistic process and I’m not very artistic, especially when it comes to color. Nice job!
Fair enough!
I like it its got a 1970s feel to it. Like those green and orange tubs with the funny ridgy lids.
Yes! You mean ribbon candy??
@@PFWoodturning yeah!!
love the color! i like the juxtaposition of the natural grain and the 'green'. peace out and HNY to you too!
You too! 🎆✌️
Beautiful bowl as always Mrs. Peggy !! Great video!! 👍😁
Thank you so much 😃
Always look forward to your next video.
Glad to hear it!
Your work always come through. I had my doubts when you added all the color but LOOK - it is beautiful! Nice work.
Thanks, Susan! 😎
As long as the grain of the wood is visible I think coloring is great.
Thank you 😊
Beautiful bowl love the color. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful bowl Peggy. Great job.
Thanks 😊
as you remarked some do not care to color wood. in your case that is just not so what a unique bowl your work gives me inspiration to think out of the box. Thank You
Cool, thanks!
Good job Peggy love the color.
Thanks 😊
Well Peggy what can I say but terrific its stands out from a lot of others especially the colour it really suits that grain pattern keep it up PEACE OUT
Peace out!✌️
As always, outstanding 👍👍✌️
Thank you so much 😀
Keep on doing what you do I like the the color
Thanks 😊
Super colouring
Thank you so much 😀
it is a beautiful bowl. thank you for sharing
Thank you very much!
That bowl looks awesome
Thank you!
Turned out nice, like the colour
Thank you!!!
I liked the way you started on the outside of the bowl, so many videos I've watched where turners just about always start from the bottom. I was thinking that I was the only one that started from the outside. Starting on the outside balances the spindle and is easier on the lathe, as well as making the tenet true.
✅✌️
I like the different no matter what it is.paint ,dye, bleach, stain what ever it's still wood n it looks pretty cool good job.happy new year.
Thanks 👍 Happy New Year to you!
Love the color
Thanks 😊

Nice Job. Love the colors!!!
Thank you!
Another great job Peggy. You have a good eye for colour. I like the idea of colours in the wood as long as the grain is still visible. You nailed it. Happy New Year.
Thanks 🤩
Beautiful you amaze me

Perfect color! Kept the brilliance of the wood at the same time.
Thank you! Cheers!
Another good looking bowl. The color really brings out the Tiger stripes Pattern in the wood. Wish I could show you the work I do. I turn cow horns into cups and containers and of course powder horns. I am trying to get into turning bowls and other things.
Very cool! Share a pic!
@@PFWoodturning I can not figure out how to share a picture here. Seen you have your email listed I will send you some pictures there.

I'm with you Peggy, I colour a lot of my turnings, with stain you can still see the grain so its a win win , beautiful bowl, and nice colours. thanks for sharing.

I love watching your videos. I also like the natural look of wood but you put a ZING to your art which is outstanding. Your incite with your coloring is very unique. Nobody will or can duplicate your work. Truly one of a kind forever!!! I hope the new year brings much prosperity to you.
Thanks very much 😎✌️
I like it Peggy, I wonder how it would have looked with and that green, food for thought. Have great New Year.
Thanks!
I liked it, very good design. Reminds me of finishing metals, the beauty comes out once oiled or waxed.
I totally agree!
Happy New Year, Peggy!
Happy new year!
Really enjoyed the colour process, keeping a simple shape just made the finished bowl nice and stylish👍 keep safe and well and let's hope the new year is a happy one.
Thanks 😊
That came out really terrific, the color is really good. Thank you for sharing your video, I will have to give it a try one day.
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful bowl Peggy. When I find the right piece of wood I’ll have to give dye a try.✌️
Awesome!!! I’d love to see it when you do! 😎
Looks good, Peggy. You were right - at first it looked like a hot mess but in the end it worked. Have a safe and Happy New Year.
Bill
Thanks, Bill! Cheers to 2021...... 😎
Wow...I must admit I was holding my breath till the end but as usual it turned out great! Beautiful!
Thanks!!!!
I, like a few others, held my breath when the color was applied. In the end, a very nice bowl. It will make a point of interest in someone's home. All the best to you in the New Year.
Thank you very much!
Another homerun! Great project. Thanks for sharing be safe, be cool! Happy New Year! Beach, NC
Thanks 👍 Happy New Year to you!
the color morphed from the dark blue over to a green! It actually looks really nice! Great job! I like how it turned out! Happy New Year to you to!
Thanks! Happy New Year 🎆
I don’t mind the dyes they don’t mask the natural wood completely. It’s not for every piece or everyone but it’s good. Keep up the nice work
Thanks!😊
Beautiful green, Peggy. Wasn't sure where you were heading when you started, but I love the finished product. ❤
Thank you so much!
