I've 3 kids in primary school my eldest is going into secondary school in September.

As stated - in various comments left on Gript articles on this general subject - the 2015 Act is probably unconstitutional. Why - well the 1937 Constitution, on its enactment - implicitly recognised that there were 2 sexes - male and female - and that they weren’t interchangeable. That, of course, accorded with what 99.99 % of people - whether in Ireland or elsewhere - regarded as being the case (“reality” in other words) back in 1937. The whole idea of “sex changes” - which the Courts might accept as something the Constitution - as a “living document” - now - in the new millennium - recognises - is not the same as mere “self-identifying” as the other sex (i.e. without any attempt to undergo surgery, etc.) - yet the 2015 Act allows “mere self-identification” - the Minister must allow a birth certificate change on application. The Constitution cannot be read (except maybe by some loony activist judge) as allowing the distinction between the 2 sexes to be “collapsed” in the manner that the 2015 Act permits. Nothing is certain in litigation but the prospects of a successful challenge to the 2015 Act (on the basis - and only on the basis - of the foregoing “self-identification” aspect) must be reckoned as pretty high.
