    Another great video John, thanks ! Prices became a bad joke for Napa wine. I was looking at purchases in the last 3 years and I am favouring Bordeaux 10-1 over Napa. For $100-$120 I can buy Leoville Poyferre, Clinet, Domaine De Chevalier, amongst many others that are impressive. I continue to buy Napa but I am extremely picky. I recently pass the oportunity to buy my first allocation of Scarecrow after waiting for 3 or so years. At $600+tax+shipping it was $700 a bottle! I franky rather buy Vieux Chateau Certan, Trotanoy, Pavie for much less than that. Of the few wines that I continue to buy are Maybach Materium and VHR. I love Napa, but their prices are absurd and $100 is now the entry point ( if not $150 ) to good wine and for half that I can buy impressive wines from many other places.

    Attorney Somm, congratulations on your 10,000 subscribers. Boy, you are moving. Nice work, brother. I have seen Othello in Japan.
    I am a fan of Dominus and bought 2 cases of 2013 and 2016. Thanks for this episode. Most of my Napa Valley stash, I source from Hong Kong. I still have a case of 1992 Screaming Eagle and their 1992 magnum in perfect condition. Do you think the magnum is ready for drinking? Or should I hold onto it a little longer.
    I drank one of the Eagles, then drank a 2000 Petrus. Well, the Eagle was up to the task. Challenging wines are always hard to rate. Petrus is very minty and licoricey and these aromas last over three days, whereas, the Eagle is black currant, licorice, vanilla and lasted over four days. Petrus went beyond aromas and taste impossible to describe. It was as though you were confined for two days in a pharmacy and then let out into the fresh countryside. The taste on your palet is a dream from which you don’t want to wake up.
    I say all of that to say Napa and Oakville wines are very strong.

    • @AttorneySomm
      @AttorneySomm  3 місяці тому

      Thanks very much! Greatly appreciate it. During my visit to Dominus, they explained that Othello started out in the Japanese market and has been released in certain other markets as well. This year will be the first time it is released in the US, so that is a nice development for US consumers!
      I definitely think that you can start enjoying the 1992 Screaming Eagle. It should definitely be ready to enjoy, although I would probably start with the 750s and save the magnum as that one will age longer.
      Glad that you enjoy the Napa Valley and Oakville wines. I'm a big fan as well. I visited several Oakville producers and attended a special tasting with numerous Oakville producers. It is definitely one of my favorites as well.

    • @AttorneySomm
      @AttorneySomm  3 місяці тому +2

      Yes, I publish Napa videos often to try to help people understand it and make selections that fit their taste preferences. Many tend to think that the wines are all the same, but there are substantial differences in winemaking as well as fruit sources (e.g., mountain fruit, valley fruit, blends of the two, etc.).
      While Ridge Monte Bello is from the Santa Cruz Mountains and not Napa, it is definitely one of my favorite California wines and an excellent choice! It is very much made in an old world style. It is very age-worthy. Absent a cooler vintage like 2011, I tend to wait at least 10 years to enjoy Ridge MB.
