Instead of people focusing on what you should’ve done in the video, we all need to recognize the effort (time and money) to create this video. The editing is superb and adding side notes to each wine elevates the content. It’s entertaining and engaging as well. Because of this video, I took a 2009 Brane-Cantenac to Flemmings last night and it was AMAZING. Thank you all 🙏🏻
First of all, thank you for your kind words. Second, you are absolutely right - the editing is quite challenging and B is doing it all by herself. Self taught. I love the fact that the '09 Brane-Cantenac was fabulous - I have four bottles of that vintage in my cellar and now I'm really excited.
Château Palmer is my dream wine. I love Margaux wines and I had the chance to taste the Alter Ego, 2nd wine of Château Palmer which is already stunning to me...great video ! (the "Parker wannabe" cracked me up ^^)
Love it!! Someone on here that actually pops bottles and puts them up to some major players in wine. It doesn’t need to be 1st growth, 2nd growths are monsters!!
Love expensive wine, but since I drink wine pretty frequently I tend to also look for great $20-$70 bottles to try. Would be cool to see which bottles you guys like that are in that range
I'm about the same as you($20-100). My wheelhouse is $35-80(some XLNT St Emilion for $35, Left Bank starts at $45). I'm a Quality/Price ratio(QPR) guy, like you. I get as much overall enjoyment with a 97-point wine(shorthand) for $75, as a 98-pt, $125-200 wine. HOWEVER, a 100-pt wine is a Different Animal. To keep an example within Margaux, a $45(now $75) 2015 Giscours was Great(feminine, elegant but complex smell & flavor. Medium to Med-Heavy balance). 96 points.
I have had all three wines but with different vintages: 1983 Palmer, 1986 Margaux, and 2019 Brane-Cantenac. The Palmer and the Margaux were neck to neck with Palmer slightly ahead. But the Margaux showed a certain breeding that Palmer could not match. The Brane-Cantenac was a distance third. I really enjoy your channel.
'83 Palmer is legendary - what a treat! I had so lucky to have had a bottle of that last year in Paris from a chateau re-release. It was special. I'm glad you had a great experience with the '86 Margaux. I've found the '86 vintage to be closed to the point where I'm wondering if they'll ever come around. Good for you!!
2019 Brane is not even fair to compare. No 2019 from Bordeaux is even close to be ready to drink. It is one of the vintages that would need a lot if time to show the potential. Last 3 months i have tried over 150 2019 vintages here in Bordeaux and every time on both nose and pallet it is not that nice feeling. But it will be a beautiful vintage and should start open up in maybe 7-8 years.
Love this video again !! Nice comparison, and unbelievable that Chateau Margaux still needs time !! Love all your insight on the appellation as well. Thanks for doing this again, keep them coming !!! And ... Bought the 2023 en primeur, the Chateau Margaux had the highest ratings in total from all the critics. Be sure to visit my wine cellar when you are in the Netherlands 😉
05 has developed into a great vintage for sure. Thank you for another very enjoyable post. If you have other regions where you have reds or whites another taste off would be great. Or maybe a vertical? Cheers and thanks again.
Just stumbled to your channel, great stuff…love Bordeaux! Brane Cantenac always delivers! Henri Lurton's focus on modern winemaking techniques is putting Brane-Cantenac in the spotlight. It’s also at a great price point, compared to the other 2 wines (excellent wines but pricey). Looking forward to more Bordeaux content from your channel! Also, this would have been even better if done blind!!! Salud 🍷!
Again a very interesting tasting event. But ... what about blind tasting these wines, and do you think any of you would have been able to recognize them ?
You guys are quickly becoming my favorite wine channel. Great job! I love how you open stuff that is hard to find/collectable/expensive and aren’t afraid to say how you really feel. How did you decide to try these open label vs blind? I was just wondering. Please keep these videos coming.
Thank you for your nice comments - our goal is to keep it real. We went back and forth on having Stacey tasting them blind. It's hard not to notice the wine smell and color when I open the wine so I would need to have someone else do it for us. We'll figure it out and in the future we'll do some blind tasting for sure based on all the feedback.
Thanks for another very good and interesting episode. One small request, remove the background music. It takes the focus from your interesting comments!
Great video. I've already visited Margaux and Palmer. 2005 Margaux blew my mind but 83 Palmer could compete with Margaux in a blind tasting (Palmer was my fav). Cheers
Congrats on creating what is arguably the best wine channel on UA-cam to-date. Love the content, the wines and just how humble you guys are on screen. Cheers!
Idea!!: now that we know “Pops” as you lovingly call him loves Bordeaux. You should do a blind tasting with the Palmer Bordeaux, and a California Bordeaux style blend and another Bordeaux style blend from a different country. (Super Tuscan?) Make them all from vintages that are with a few years of each other and that rates really high for that particular region and also make them around the same price point. Keep up the good work love your videos 😊
Love your channel. I’ve started collecting myself lately but worry about buying expensive wine online. Could you recommend several online merchants that you trust in providing quality wine? Thanks.
I would hace added Château Giscours and Château Kirwan - these are very good values! And: what would be interesting: your personal exchange rate! E.g. "I would exchange 1 Chateau Margaux for 2 Palmer or 5 Brane-Cantenac (this really for example) to determinate the value. What do you think then?
I really love and enjoy your videos, thanks to you guys I look like a pro talking about wines 😂🤩👌🏼 But hey!!! A 100+’s bottle don’t make you have a cheap palate…you make me feel shy 🙈; that’s my top limit 🔝 🤷🏽♂️😆
Very interesting comparison of three great Margaux wines of classic 2005 vintage :) Maybe next time to do a blind tasting of it and select the best wine this way :)?
I was lucky enough to try the 2009 Chateau Pontet-Canet recently! I think they’re fully biodynamic/organic by now. I guess that’s Pauillac. Recently here in Little Rock we held a Bordeaux-Rendezvous tasting with 16 classified growths. My fav from Margaux was d’Issan ‘14.
I take this episode as evidence that the wine needs to cellar long enough to get to its happy place so it will drink really well. I would have liked to pick the Chateau Margaux as my favorite but the Palmer was clearly in a better place. Brane Cantenac? I am not the barnyard guy, so good to know. The only way to know is to buy more than one bottle and take your best guess about when to open a bottle to zero in on when the vintage of that wine is at its best.
Bordeaux pricing is heavily influenced by several factors. That 2005 will be slightly over $1k, yet say, a 1998 will be under $500. Futures can often be purchased for under $400. Same can be said for those other wines. The answer to your question applies to each individual. It would have been more interesting if you covered the labels, tasted them blind, then revealed them at the end along with the prices.
Blind taste would have been much more interesting. So much bias is eliminated when blind tasting. You see the label, know the price, so you of course will have a confirmation bias. Interestingly, after finishing the video, I see that Chateau Margaux wasn't the top choice! That's great that everyone stuck to their palate!
For me, Brane-Cantenac is the epitome of barnyard smell and the jammy seductive taste...Quite like it. Only tasted 1986 Margaux, which was fantastic, and 1986 Palmer, which I did not like too much. One notion about the tasting: half-blind would have been more honest? Or maybe the styles are so distinctive that there would have been too many giveaways in any case...
There have been lots of suggestions about single-blind tasting and we plan to incorporate those into future episodes. You bring up a good point, which is why we didn't do it this time. The aromas and colors are different enough that I would need someone else to open the bottles for us. Also, I think the wines were distinct enough in this episode that they would be easy to pick out. On the other hand, I think single-blind tasting is a great suggestion that we'll incorporate in future episodes. We're just getting started so we'll learn as we go!

Yes. That's the allways best.
How about a 5 vintage verticle of Grange??
Love that you're doing this with your daughter. Looks like you guys are having a lot of fun! Unbelievable collection and even better dadding!
I love these videos, keep them coming!
9:17 keep it real, B! Love it, great stuff as always you guys.
You guys should try doing a lineup like this but blind!
Agreed - great suggestion!
I concur. 05 Palmer has been my favorite Bordeaux of all time. Delightful layers of fruits and silky texture, endless finish.

Great suggestion and something we've taken note of. Will absolutely happen in the future.
Nice horizontal tasting. Well done. How about trying some verticals?

Yea, agree, would have been fun to see this done as a blind tasting.
What an amazing cellar,! The sommelier has to taste blind the next time... maybe the dad as well because he's definitely tasted loads of amazing wine
On it! :-)
Fantastic Friday video...
An amazing cellar to be able to make these videos! keep em coming!
“The slurp heard around the world” had me rofl 🤣. Really enjoying your videos!
We have really been arguing about doing something blind. Glad to hear there are so many of you interested! Stay tuned.
You should make a video on Soldera. Soldera wine rocks and is easily confused with top end Burgundy although it is not cheap
Love your channel. I’ve started collecting myself lately but worry about buying expensive wine online. Could you recommend several online merchants that you trust in providing quality wine? Thanks.
Great video , you are doing amazingly good! Keep it up
I had alter ego second wine of Chateau Palmer ….. it’s an awesome wine. We can enjoy this wine sooner than Palmer.
I like your channel, keep on going!
new subscribers from Norway gets an invite to next tasting right?
LOL - selvsagt! Må dog betale flybilletten selv. :-)
The videos keep getting better and better, keep up the good work!
Maybe do a blind tasting of different price points next?
Blind tasting is in our future for sure! Great suggestion.
Will -hopefully- try one of those wines one day :). bought a 2019 Domaine Tempier Bandol ‘ Cabassaou’ this week.
That's a tough one....
I just opened an ‘05 Kirwan a month ago-it was still very tight-needs time. ‘05 Malescot St. Exupery is really in a great spot right now, though.
Just had some of the '05 Malescot and completely agree!
just a great video thank you!!
Thanks is putting it mildly! Maybe have a little recap tasting after a few hours -- each time with the age worthy wonders?
I look forward to some Italian on this channel! Barolo and Brunello especially!
We'll do some in the future for sure. Thank you for the suggestion!

Love this!! Y’all are awesome!
Very interesting comparison of three great Margaux wines of classic 2005 vintage :) Maybe next time to do a blind tasting of it and select the best wine this way :)?
We'll incorporate blind tasting in the future - seems like a consistent feedback from all our viewers. Good stuff!
I can't believe you opened up the 2005 vintages again! I saw you opening the 2005 Mouton-Rothschild and thought infanticide.
19 years of age is plenty. You may prefer more age, but that is not infanticide by any definition. Cheers!

Great stuff, wish I had these wines. My God!
same vintage too! great video
Shouldn’t this have been done blind to eliminate label bias?
Bias is always there - I love the suggestion of tasting these blind. They'd be single blind of course since we're picking the wine from the cellar.
Bordeaux pricing is heavily influenced by several factors. That 2005 will be slightly over $1k, yet say, a 1998 will be under $500. Futures can often be purchased for under $400. Lots of comments about doing this blind. Love it - great suggestion!
@@OurPourDecisionsBlind removes confirmation bias.

@@OurPourDecisions - I did, but I guess I need to rewatch it 🤪

How do you'll store the opened wines?
They get consumed that same evening by the team (and friends). We had steak with these! :-)

Fore sure - lot's of great wines made in Chile. Got any favorites you'd like to see?
Blind taste would have been much more interesting. So much bias is eliminated when blind tasting. You see the label, know the price, so you of course will have a confirmation bias. Stölzle Bordeaux glasses from Costco :-)
what kind of wine glasses do u use ?
These particular glasses were Schott Zwiesel purchased at Costco. Practical and affordable.
Great video! but should have been a blind tasting and before you reveal the bottle score each of them out of 100 ;)
Quite a few viewers have pointed this out and we will most definitely do some blind tastings in the future.
Blind tasting is the only way to fairly compare
Love how you drink wine like me, do I think it taste great?
For me, Brane-Cantenac is the epitome of barnyard smell and the jammy seductive taste...Quite like it. Only tasted 1986 Margaux, which was fantastic, and 1986 Palmer, which I did not like too much. Too early for Ch. Margaux, on the early side for Ch. Palmer, and perfect timing for Ch. Brane-Cantenac.
