      He was perfect for the Beatles and also wrote some of their best songs. The age difference was interesting - George ended up getting them kicked out of Hamburg for a while (but they came back...). Pete Best's drumming was too bland so they replaced him with Ringo, who was also a perfect hit. It was a real shame what happened to Stuart Sutcliffe but he didn't fit and he knew it (but played at least an indirect role in creating their look). Funny how things worked out the final version of the Beatles that emerged was the best that there ever could have been...in George Martin, they also had the best producer they ever could have had back then.

      @Vlodec Everyone knows why.
      1. He wasn't one of the guys. John, Paul and George were inseparable in those days. Pete liked to go off and do his own thing. He also refused the famous Beatle haircut (to be fair, his hair was curly unlike the others so it would never have stayed)
      2. None of the others particularly liked him. Paul absolutely despised him and George had been pushing to get their mutual friend Richie into the band to replace him since he was a better drummer and they all liked him.
      3. George Martin thought Pete Best was incompetent. He said that all Best could do was play fours (in fact, Best's poor drumming was known as the other Beatles, particularly John and Paul, would have to stomp their feet on stage to keep Best in time.

      Warpathimus
      The Beatles inspired a lot of musicians, they were a VERY influential band. Dave Grohl, who was the drummer in Nirvana and is now the frontman of Foo Fighters, said without the Beatles he would have never started playing.

    • @1badjesus
      @1badjesus 6 років тому +12

      O L I V I A yeah but Grohl said same/similar re:Lemmy and Motorhead, KISS, Black Sab, Led Zep, Clash, AC/DC, Sex P's, etc. WARPATHIMUS is 100% correct in comment above. If it wasn't the Beatles it woulda been another band or artist who broke similar musical ground. Besides...how can one mourn something that they NEVER knew existed in the first place? As a thought experiment I've often thought what other band(s) may have risen if the Beatles never formed or made it past The Query Men PUB scene? Granted NOW those early songs are considered genius examples of song writing with their simple blend of Melody and Lyrics but THEN? Especially PRE A Hard Day's Night? The Beatles were just one of countless Liverpool working class bands playing bubble gum rock n roll trying to make it via the club scene with ZERO indication they would go on to write Sgt. Peppers and the White Album. The closest modern example I can think of is Guns N Roses... had someone seen GN'R live circa early 1985 in the LA club scene they would have witnessed a typical glam band of the time that exhibited zero indication of later writing the songs: November Rain, Estranged, Coma and Civil War. Who knows....in some alternate universe GN'R wasn't signed to Geffen Records but ANOTHER struggling band of the time was instead who later went on to pen classic songs we will NEVER know existed. In the Sandman Comic Books by Neil Gaiman Morpheus has a whole DREAM LIBRARY of UNWRITTEN WORKS by the likes of Shakespeare, Poe AND more AMAZINGLY average individuals of equal talent that NEVER had an opportunity to flourish and therefore in never once put pen to paper in reality. That got me thinking how many "Stairway to Heaven's and Bohemian Rhapsody's" of potential EQUAL *Metal **Majesty are sittin partially written at the bottom of some once talented guitar players sock drawer or dusty guitar case in a garage that were never completed because there ALREADY EXISTED similar songs written by *LED and **Queen....
      (with me?😉).

      +Sara Brown I love George Harrison's workd and I think his talents were very understated but as far as being a multi instrumentalist McCartney had the edge over Harrison *AND* Lennon. Besides the guitar from what I know John played the harmonica and a little bit of piano while George tended to focus on stringed instruments, even undertaking learning the Sitar which he played on multiple Beatles songs.

    • @PrivatePooter
      @PrivatePooter 8 років тому +67

      +Yamagashi Being an good musician is more than just playing instruments well. It's also about knowing the theory behind what you are playing and knowing how each note interacts with each other. It's all that theory jazz that would take you a long time to learn

    • @aadarshnemana8548
      @aadarshnemana8548 7 років тому +216

      Stephen Brown being a good musician doesn't mean knowing theory, the most tone deaf unmusical person in the world could take an in depth lesson on baroque harmony and perfect it and would that in turn make them a "good musician?" In that ideology, neither of the 4 Beatles were good musicians because they couldn't read a note of music at all yet they were composing all these complex harmonies and chord progressions with clever modulations. Being a good musician means having a musical ear and being able to play your instrument well in my opinion and these 4 did that perfectly.

    • @joseph_trippy2327
      @joseph_trippy2327 7 років тому +49

      I agree, having a natural ear for music is by far the most important thing. You can be successful as a musician just from your ear, you can be successful from learning to read sheet music and studying the theory but in the end the person with the ear for it is better because they'll be able to do things that are unthinkable and seemingly impossible to the person that sticks to the rules and theory, yet the Beatles broke many musical rules and now they are unmatchable

    I LOOOOOVE that little boyish face " I was really HAAAPY!" what great stories . Someone should do a movie like Star Wars a trilogy (quadilogy) of all these moments , just for the benefit of future generations , because I think this was the BEST the 20th century had to offer the world and right aftre WWII .. That was a sign "It all be cool ..."

    Frank Sinatra was once asked if he liked The Beatles and any song in particular. His response was something along the lines of this: "I love the Lennon and McCartney song 'Something.' I think it's one of the best love songs ever written." Of course, Frank meant that George Harrison wrote one of the best love songs ever written, but his mistake was understandable, given the publicity given to the Lennon-McCartney team at the time. But since Frank personally knew all of the great songwriters of his era from the American songbook, and was an expert in that style of music, Frank's thumbs-up to "Something" means a lot.
