      Well guess what; Hertz owns Dollar and Thrifty, also. Together, these three companies account for 95 percent of the domestic car rental industry. So you're left with Avis or Enterprise, which I've always found to cost more.

    WAY TOO MANY OF THESE!!! And Hertz isn’t even making it right!! At this point, law enforcement shouldn’t enforce any warrants from Hertz until this is cleared up in the corporate end. I hope every one of these people sue. They’ve been terrorized.

    Basically Hertz is saying collateral damage (good customers) is justified in pursuit of a few bad actors. That attitude will be the future downfall of the company- I believe an audit of your best practices in vetting if a car is stolen or not - needs to be done yesterday.

      it's insurance fraud from Hertz

    • @scottwatts3879
      @scottwatts3879 3 місяці тому

      There should be an investigation.
      But there's also some clues in the story: he extended the rental-how? Whenever I extended a rental, i went back to rental office.
      Hertz-charged his card the full amount- of course, they do that any time a rental is overdue, whether you steal the car or not. You'll get charged rent if you damage the car and Hertz sends it to get fixed...you'll be charged the fee while the car is in the shop.
      How did he turn it in? I never just drop off a car. I always walk in, turn in the keys, make do an inspection and then give me a receipt. Takes 15 mins.
      The story smells a bit fishy on BOTH sides.

  • @y2ksurvivor
    @y2ksurvivor 2 роки тому +38

    Unacceptable. And how long will it take for this arrest to be expunged from his record? How much will that cost him? The ripple effects here are HUGE. I hope he's able to find a decent lawyer and sue the shit out of them, and get a decent settlement to make up for this utter f*ckery. Edit: Wait. They've done this to hundreds of people??? Avoid them at all costs, folks.

    • @jdrancho1864
      @jdrancho1864 2 роки тому +1

      While not impossible , getting an arrest expunged is an expensive and time-consuming process, and involves the use of an attorney. The rules vary from state to state, but at its core is the fact that an arrest record is a correct representation of a legal process.
      The fact that it was based on a bogus claim is irrelevant. If an arrest was made, it is maintained on a person's record.

    We rented a car from a Hertz in Los Angeles. When we inspected the car...it smelled of fresh vomit. Then we went back inside to switch to another car, but they couldn't find records for the vehicle that they had JUST rented to us. Apparently, someone entered a wrong number for ANOTHER car (same color, make, year) and rented that car to us. When they entered the correct information, the computer showed it not being on their lot.

    • @Batya-Grace

      Sounds like the clown show that runs the airport in Atlanta: "can't" pull bags when there is a FOUR HOUR layover, and then when it arrived to its originally tagged destination... system showed it in Atlanta. I had to drive to the airport the bag was tagged for, and request to examine the luggage room [that handles odd things left at carusel, etc]: on the shelf, with its tag, and not one brain between two airports - it probably took ten people to screw that up, and they batted 1000.
      I hate morons.

    • @jdrancho1864
      @jdrancho1864 2 роки тому

      As the old saying goes, a grand jury can indict a ham sandwich (in this case, looks like they did). I believe Doucette's problem may have started when he first got arrested in AZ, posted bail, returned home to NH, and turned everything over to an attorney.
      Thinking this is so minor and would be cleared up in no time, he or more likely, his attorney didn't pay attention as they should, might have missed certain procedural deadlines, and before you know it, a warrant for his arrest was issued.
      And that is how he came to be arrested, by customs agent when his cruise ship returned to port in Florida, and his name triggered an alert on CBP's computers.

    Arrests stay on your record even if dismissed, dropped, or not even filed. They will lie and tell you they don't, but the do. Background check yourself, and there it is!!! Laws need changed.

    • @jdrancho1864
      @jdrancho1864 2 роки тому

      That is true. An arrest record exists independent of what eventually happens to the charge. An arrest record can be expunged, but the laws vary from state to state, and the process is lengthy, time-consuming and expensive. '
      But most people don't know that they have the option, so they don';t even try.

    I've traveled a bit and gone through the arduous process of renting a car in different cities. The real issue is how/why these companies are renting out cars to individuals who cannot possibly provide insurance coverage, a credit card w/ avail balance in case the car is damaged, etc., especially when the customer's home address is in an area with a high crime rate or known for gang involvement. I was even unable to rent a car from one company in a city I was visiting to attend my mother's funeral b/c I had not booked a return flight and couldn't produce that documentation. How are criminals able to rent the cars so easily without the same checks in place to ensure the person renting will be the only driver, and he/she has reason to return the car promptly without damage? This has to be some kind of racket to profit corporations who file claims on stolen and/or damaged vehicles.

      There are only so many defensive policies a company can put in place before they run the risk of being accused of profiling and red-lining and racism in general. Red meat for the likes of Jackson and Sharpton and AOC.

    Why are you trying to question Hertz and not the prosecutors who have evidence proving no crime was committed?

    Nobody should rent any vehicle from Hertz. In fact, everybody should stay away from Hertz and force them to shut down forever.

    *Enterprise* has very good inventory management and common sense customer service and they will _not_ clear cars reported stolen for use as a rental until it's 100% cleared with the courts and law enforcement. DO NOT USE HERTZ!
