      You’re a lifesaver for this video. I have a 2015 si supercharged and my impeller snapped as well. I have the thing apart but how do you remove the impeller shaft?

    • @TommyMccoyMedia
      @TommyMccoyMedia  3 роки тому

      @@alejandroserrano5476 it’s difficult bro. You would honestly have to take it to a professional. Looking back at this vid I completely screwed the unit taking it apart. It’s very intricate and precise, be weary. You will need a bearing press for reassembly if you do decide to do it on your own. Thank you for watching and I hope this helped! Keep me updated!

    That's Rotrex for ya. I have their stage 3 on my yamaha apex and have put tons of miles on it. It owes me nothing. But when they first came out I put the stage 1 kit on my first apex and the charger didn't make it 100 miles before grenadeing so there are lemons and they're solid units

    Hi, I have a Ford Fiesta Zetec S Mk7 with a Rotrex supercharger. Mine failed a few months back. Although your issue may not be to do with anything "wrong" with you oil lines it is likely caused by your bearing being starved of oil. This is because the supercharger, and in tern the oil pump I assume is being run on the auxiliary belt and when you shut off the car the auxiliary belt stops rotating in tern stopping the oil pump from running, even though the bearing will still be spinning like mad. This means the bearing is still running but is not being lubricated. This is why it's important to let your car run idle for a few minutes before shutting it completely off.

    • @TommyMccoyMedia
      @TommyMccoyMedia  4 роки тому +1

      max stone that makes sense. I never thought of that. I always started up the car and let it warm up before I drove it but I never kept it running for a little when I was done. Thanks for your input! How’s your car doing?

    This is the ONLY channel i've found with a rotrex strip down. It would be Sooo useful if you can show the planetary gears too. My rotrex seized. I thought it was oil but i opened part of it and plenty of oil poured out.
    I later found my oil supply line was blown in two places. I think the oil became trapped in a vacuum and overheated inside the S.C not being able to circulate back through the cooler.
    I can't see any damage yet but i initially could not rotate by hand until i opened it up, then it freed up.
    QUESTION:
    Is it normal to feel a notchy movement during manual rotation of the pully gear?
    Why do you suppose i could not initially rotate the seized pully drive wheel before opening it up?
    Thanks for any advice.

    • @TommyMccoyMedia
      @TommyMccoyMedia  7 років тому +1

      Zion2030 hey man welcome to the channel!
      I'm glad you found this video useful. I will be doing another video in the near future exposing the planetary gears. I tried getting in to them but it is extremely tough to crack. I am currently trying to find a way to bust it open. BUT, I will! Keep checking in. I'm quite busy with school and getting ready to graduate college that I have no time at all. I appreciate your patience!
      To answer your question about the notchy movements, I may have. There was a subtle grinding noise while the car was running but I couldn't figure it out. Then this happened. It could be your impeller rubbing along the housing. The planetary gears are very well protected so I don't think any corruption is likely in there unless you overspin the charger.
      Hope all is well and that it was something minor for you. Let me know if anything new comes up!

    • @sevemartinez7492
      @sevemartinez7492 5 років тому

      In case you had not found the answer, yes, the notchy or resistant manual turns are normal. The unit uses a gerotor style oil pump that causes this.

    Please keep us posted on what you find. It's crazy is that I have had the exact same experiences with the KW kit... My pulley fell off the same way and now mine is also making a funny noise a few years later. Of course, I also replaced the bearings in the idlers because they were also shot before I found this video.
    *I couldn't sleep and I think I have a theory on why your unit failed. I believe the failed input bearing alowed the entire planetary gearset to bend/shift from the weight of the drive belt. This shift allowed your turbine to contact the compressor housing and sheered the shaft right off.
    Anyways, thanks for the info Tommy Mccoy

    • @TommyMccoyMedia
      @TommyMccoyMedia  7 років тому

      Anthony Chung that's actually what it was. That's what my dad was saying and it's the only thing that makes sense. The input bearing was shot. I feel as though kraftwerks knows this is an issue but they don't care. It keeps them in business. It sucks, I loved my kit.
      Thank you for watching though bro! Learn from my experience and have a look through your unit and see if there's anything.

      Have you considered buying parts from www.superchargerrebuild.com/rotrex-rebuild/ ? The only thing is that you'd have to get the impeller balanced with a new output shaft at a turbo rebuilding shop.

    • @TommyMccoyMedia
      @TommyMccoyMedia  7 років тому

      I have! but they quoted me $65 to look at it and $675 if it's fixable. To be honest I have no interest in going through this struggle again. This experience has further solidified my stance on how I feel about Rotrex and their units. Hopefully come january I can get the Greddy Turbo :)

      The kit is good, it's just I would have to buy another rotrex unit. After seeing this I am not willig to buy another one, I would rather go with another set up that does not have the reputation of breaking so easily. Currently n/a, enjoying it too oddly enough! I'd like to go turbo next year after I graduate college! Thanks for stopping by man :)

    At 5:26 it clearly shows the drive gear has wobbled and worn a groove on the bearing housing, evidence that the bearing broke first. Dry and rusty bearings do that eventually. Thanks very much for the dissection though...good job!

    Now, if I am not mistaken that damage is caused by hitting limiter way too often. Planetary gear systems do not like hitting limiter. Rotrexs are suprising delicate units. Those input shafts are useless though

      Had about 20k miles on the supercharger. Was about to change the fluids.
      Launch control and rev limiter was used occasionally. I learned that bouncing the limiter really jacks up the procharger and it makes sense.
