Poor Dan was choked up, but it was hauntingly sweet phasing and note choices that got to him. I really, really appreciate your focusing on that in this lesson. This is what it’s all about. We can bust out exotic sweeping fretboard diarrhoea and be applauded, but to create an emotional connection is top tier playing. Very few have attempted to touch the subject. Thanks (for) a stellar, novel and inspired upload. Subbed!
Wow Mike thanks for the kind words. Andy T has a special gift; he can shred like a madman but it’s his touch, tone and melodic sense that separates him.
You might be on your way to Internet legend status, I’ve had a long hiatus of not wanting to pick up the guitar after 35 years of playing, but your lessons are starting to bring life back to me. Excellent information, excellent execution, high marks all the way around, thank you.
Hi Charlie! I must concede I thought, being a you tube guitar tutorial stroller, that this is another one of those 'click-bait' videos, but I was most pleasantly surprised. SIMPLICITYis the ultimate sophistication. You did an EXCELLENT job in demonstrating this to us aspiring guitarists. Such 'gold nuggets' within the humble triad. This indeed going to be my 'launching pad'. OMG!! Such sweet solos can be extracted from this simple strategy. Warm regards from Sunny South Africa.
Can you show us a lot more of this stuff? I really want to learn this. Can you post up more videos of various types of things like this, with tabs or diagrams? Thanks.
I love your videos Charlie, not just your teaching skills and guitar expertise but your commentary. You are so right about the fact there are so many UA-cam videos that make it sound like it is so simple to play some cool trick. Instead you emphasize the importance of understanding the fretboard, relationship between arpeggios and chords, etc. You have to practice the scales to help learn the fretboard but knowing fretboard is not enough. What you teach is so important: Teaching us how to find configurations (arpeggios, chords, etc) all of the neck. Thank you.
well, I think I’m gonna be watching this video a couple of hundred times over the next few weeks. I’ve just started breaking out of the minor pentatonic by combining major pentatonic with minor pentatonic in my solos and this is a beautiful powerful next step. Thank you so much for a great instructional video! 👍👍👍
Beautiful piece of music from Andy Timmons, but i have to point out that it basically the same harmonic structure as D'yer Maker-Led Zeppelin. Page puts the root and 3rd in front of though. Other than that , IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME! The main theme anyway.
This is a great lesson on its own merits, but I've been working on learning triads for rhythm playing and I'm finding that working out where the 2nd is in relation to the triad chord shape is great for me learning which inversion I'm in rather than just dumbly learning the shape. The extra little bit of insight here helps me map the fretboard to the music because I need to learn things in multiple ways before they really stick.
Dave this is awesome; you hit the nail on the head about just learning shapes (but not necessarily understanding them fully). Thanks for commenting and so happy you got something out of this!
What a great work piece, and most every level of player can make use of it, and also through the use of other chordal arrangements, who knows what one might find. There is a lot here for people with an imagination. Thank you for this.

@@CharlieLongGuitar As a new guitar player back in the day I always loved Carvin guitars and wanted one so badly I could taste it but I never had enough money to buy one. Now as an old man I don't think they make them anymore and I'm kind of spoiled with PRS guitars. I liked your video a lot and will incorporate it into my lead playing, it was just exactly what I was looking for to spice things up a bit. You would think after 40 years of playing I would know this by now. Slow learner I guess. Thanks
I have a similar Carvin and it's great, my #1. You can still get them, they're called Kiesel Guitars now. I loved this clear, simple, and powerful lesson and will start practicing this and using it. Thanks!
@@gus4442 check out Kiesel - they changed the name a few years ago; I believe Jeff Kiesel is the grandson of the founder. He’s doing incredible things! I also have a PRS McCarty 594 but the Carvin is my every day go to!!!
This idea is so cool. I’ve been practising notes on the saxophone this way. There's more to this process. However, I've never thought of learning the fretboard this way.
Great guitar lesson! New sub! I can‘t find the mentioned videos from Tim Pierce and Andy Timmons. Maybe a language problem. May you please direct me to the videos? Thanx a lot!

wow crazy teaching playguitar the video
So what was the song andy timmons played?? How can you tell the story without nameing the song??¿ not that i need to cry...but what?????
“Here Lies The Heart” - I don’t think I knew the title yet when I made the video!!!
Was just practicing triads the other day and thinking to myself, do I really need 2nd inversion triads. After seeing and hearing this I’m totally in.
Love it!! Thanks for watching and commenting!!

So happy it’s helping!!!
Tremendous lesson! Yes I used it immediately. Might take awhile to get other chord changes in hand. Thanks.
Simple but effective. Thanks!

Absolutely excellent. Your lessons are fantastic Charlie. Love and gratitude from Scotland.
Is the circle of 5ths/4ths correct? Dmajor is Bflat minor? Dflat major is Bflat minor? Sorry I'm confused. But excellent lessons.
Have to agree with MK Walker!
Thanks for letting me know!! Take the concept and run with it!!
