What a brilliant episode. Perhaps the most comprehensive (and only) touring Ned Kelly video I have seen, especially if also linked with your Beechworth episode. And spot on about the Kelly armour once being housed at Old Melbourne Gaol. I so love historical stuff. No matter where you sit on the scale of whether Ned was a hero, sticking up for poor farmers, or just a common criminal and murderer, it is so interesting seeing how so much tourism has arisen around his legend and places where historical events actually occurred, involving Ned and his family. Ned has certainly brought in more money dead, than he ever did alive!😃

When I was last in Glenrowan we picked up a guide leaflet and did the walking tour. I highly recommend doing that.

Several years ago I was having a drink in a pub in Avenel and got talking to the publican about Ned Kelly and links to the area. He pointed to an old bloke at the bar and said: "See him over there? That's Bluey Shelton". Story was that his grandfather (or great-grandfather) was saved as a child by Ned Kelly when the kid fell into Hughes Creek during a flood one year. Legend is the Shelton family presented Ned with a red sash in appreciation. Bluey said the Kelly family was "all right" but made no mention of a sash. Also saw Red Kelly's headstone (Ned's father) in the Avenel cemetery.

Memories of staying at the old gaol in Ottowa, a YHA, in Canada, a very similar style of old British colonial punishment architecture. Windows too high to see out, so prisoners had to look at the workings of their mind rather than anything external. The dorms were fine. You could get a free night's accommodation if you stayed in a solitary confinement cell. I wasn't desperate enough to save money to test it out. You got locked in at 6.00 pm and were stuck in there until 6.00 AM. People apparently often screamed the hostel down within an hour or so. Interestingly, I had my gorgeous fresh Canadian salmon stolen from the fridge there. Old gaols are always a bit eerie.

How depressing are those cells. Did you bring any ghosts out with you after being where the hangings took place? Ned was so young. Oh wow, where he took his last breath. I’ve never been there after seeing all of this I don’t know if I want to, super depressing though those grounds looked lovely. I thought that suit would have looked much heavier. Really pretty little town but hell it’s changed a lot since we were last there. We drove past only a few weeks ago, if I’d have known of the changes I’d have gone in, I’d like to do that tour. This was a really interesting video, thanks guys. See you through the week. 🥰

I am supposedly related to Ronald Ryan, although I think that is just something my family likes to say because we share a surname. I’m not sure any proof of it exists. Anyway, thanks for another great video guys. I enjoyed this one. ❤️
