- Today's 2019 Playstation Vita News Update Review - Someone on Ebay is selling what is considered the holy grail of Vita collecting, a rare unreleased PS Vita prototype unit that resembles a PSP GO. It is currently selling for $19,999.00 USD, yup almost $20,000. Could this have possibly been the beta/alpha for the PS Vita?

@@themcfaceman The problem was that after launch, Sony dropped support for it and never even tried to recover. Don't forget that the 3DS also had no games in the first year and was way overpriced.
@@Majinhero True, but memory I feel was an even bigger debacle. I think way more AAA 3rd parties would have supported it more. And a handheld with HDMI out in 2012??? People would have been allll over it.
@@themcfaceman That's why people are saying that the Switch is what the Vita should have been, a fusion of home of both handheld and home console gaming. Sony just gave up on it way to fast, they could have sropped the memory card nonsense in the updated version AND included the HDMI port and it would have been way ahead of the competition.

I noticed the memory card on the expensive prototype why Sony stuck with their special memory cards ahhhh but that hdmi would have been great I love the fact that it was model after the PSPGO

@@PSVitaat2am Ikr. Vita was very expensive in my country I paid $700 (about 350 usd) for mine and then had to turn around and buy a 16gb memory card for $170 (85usd) ain't even own a game yet already spend well over $800
It's just to bad a lot of these features weren't added to the final product I think it's safe to say vita would still be selling like hotcakes today if they where .

@@PSVitaat2am PSP Go 2...bundled with a similar dock to the tv. 16 gb of internal memory and expandable sd card slot. Yeah that would have pushed at least 80+ million like the original PSP.

That would be great! There are alternatives though, like using a PSTV to play Vita games on, or hacking it in order to use standard SD cards.
You can use regular micro SD cards with a ps vita if you hack it.
I put this right up there with the NWC NES cart in my opinion it's that important to gaming history..I appreciate the vids great job

@@Davinci_eg because we could have used a vita with regular sd cards instead of there extremely overpriced ones that cost like 25 dollars for an 8gb card. a regular sd card for 20 dollars is 128gb. Not only that, we could have played our game on a tv via hdmi. if we wanted to do that now we would have to buy ps vita tv for 200-450 extra dollars when it could have all come in one package. what we could have had would have been so much better but sony is too greedy for that.

Sony kill their own device. It actualy can be the most ambitious. Portable device ever if they decide to add "docking mode" regular sdcard and internal memory atleast 16gb

I've often wondered why they didn't stick with the "Go" design. One of the Vita's biggest flaws is the tendency for the tumb-sticks to get caught on your pockets... which, unlike a Switch, the Vita actually fits in.
It sufferend from overheating issues which caused Sony to move to a design similiar to the Original PSP.
Hamdi Kamel I knew that it had heat issues. I just didn't assume it was because of the slide design.
It was also small for the size. First models are never small xD I wonder if the prototype is more powerful than the current Vita.
Hamdi Kamel Vita TV outputs to 1080i, so it's probably a little more powerful than a standard Vita. If the original model was designed with hdmi, it'd need to be a bit more powerful, especially if it ran dual-screen.
Now with 2019 technology, wonder if Sony could make a GO design that doesn't suffer from this issue.
The PS Vita 2000 model Might come with 1 gig of built-in storage
But as soon as you put in a memory card you can't use the built-in memory anymore you should be able to have both what's the point of having one gig of built-in memory when you lose it if you break down and buy a bigger memory card

There is a fair amount of truth to that. The Vita is awesome don't get me wrong, but it could have been even better.

I believe the reason why Sony didn't go with some like this is because the wanted to maximize battery life thats a dev kit so won't work if is not connected to your computer and outlet no internal battery for a reason definitely a game developer kit not prototype also of that system would of looked way different as they would have to make room for battery and battery components cause im sure room is filled with all those extra features it has on the hardware

I think I still prefer the Vita's final form factor. I never played a psp go, but it looks a little cramped. The Vita IMO, is the most comfortable handheld ever.
I think so too. I do not really think the screen would be big on it either since the PSPGo had a smaller screen in comparision to even older psp models.
I third that opinion! Plus I've never been a fan of "flip-out" tech...if that makes any sense.
The PSP go is horrible to use , the triggers were so odd and the analog was in such a weird spot ....15 minutes of play time and your hands are begging you to quit. I do still think its cool for collecting but IMHO the PSP1000 was and is still king of handheld comfort. The Vita would have beat the PSP for me but with my big hands the analogs just feel awkwardly placed BUT with a grip I love it esp shooter's. Yet I guess depending on the games the Vita is pretty cool its mainly just shooters that are uncomfortable to use. I always feel like I am having to use my fingertips to hold the system with first person shooters ...I highly recommend the batarang shaped Vita grip for shooters it rocks.
I had to buy a grip for my PSP Go to make gameplay comfortable. I had my system in a clear case at all times when not on the grip since I used my Go as a music player/private video player. It's still in fantastic condition, but the battery needs replacing.

It couldn’t be a vita 2 prototype the firmware is .99 and is similar to launch fw
What many are speculating is that it was either a very early design, or possibly a 3000 model.
Store Previews, Package Installer, and APP_HOME are available on all PlayStation Portable(?), 3, Vita, and 4 dev firmwares.
The Store Previews are basically just to show the PlayStation Store without the need for signing up to PSN or buying stuff, Package Installer is for installing packages in the form of .pkg files directly onto the unit, and APP_HOME is for loading apps from a remote PC using Neighborhood, a program for managing devkits.

This is one of those what if senarios.. im one of those peeps who genuinely thinks the vita would have sold way better if they just used SD cards... Everything else would have been a plus. But I remember in highschool i had the choice between a psp go and the vita and I chose the go because of the memory card price.. also the go was hella nice for a Homebrew boi like me

From my standpoint the memmory cards were way too expensive .. making entering the psv gaming noticeably further from reachable for a kiddo at that time.

I will say is not a prototype is a game developers kit probably for psp go
But its been confirmed to have Vita hardware
APP_HOME, Package Installer, Title Stores, are all still on the devkit and testkit firmwares, heck package installer exists even on retail firmwares it even worked until hackers discovered it in 3.18 and sony made it auto exit if vshAimgrIsCex returns 0x1
(it's also possible to install testkit firmware on a retail btw)
So really this is a devkit prototype.. which makes sense Sony would want to have dev features available to debug there firmware xD
Also the newer devkits (PDEL Model) also have mini USB and Hdmi. which makes sense since sony would want the dev features to test stuff
Also no, theflows hacks wouldn't work here .. and if you tried to update you would most likely brick
Also the SD cards arent acturally used as memory cards, they mount to sd0: (with internal storage being the same ux0)
There some artifacts of sd0 still exist on retail systems but it goes unused- but it was most likely so they could easily put files on/off the system.
Also the vita still has about 12gb of internal storage it's just that aloot more of it is used up by firmware now

@@PSVitaat2am afaik psv devkits are still being produced and there's a bit of old stock for testkits though still not as much as retail consoles. *though testkit is just retail w a different firmware*
And yes these things never stay with "SIE CONFIDENTAL licensed dev only" partially my fault when I leaked tons of stuff from sonys SDK lol
Btw I think I have one of those prototype lan adapters - it was an odd model I had never seen before ..
Imagine if that fimware was real so people could downgrade it to the beta

@@PSVitaat2am let's say you open up a game of borderlands 2 and then you see you character starts moving for itself without you moving the joystick and you can't control your character. Thats the problem I'm getting (and yes it's every game) so you can say my joystick are useless
wish the sd card were used with the vita . even the psp lets u use micro sd cards with an adaptor . and the pspgo uses m2 card .so much more reliable then the vita cards i had 2 corrupt in the last week. and dont no how fix as the built in format memory card software wont format the cards .
You can always backup your saved data on a PS3 or PC in case of corruption.

I have these, I can send you 2 versions if you want. I play tested Peace Walker with it. Rather. The older model that didn't have a SNK interface at all.
Edit : Worked for a few game studios up until now it was hell, but I got in with Jay Sato and a great team. Currently working on a game Death Stranding based off of a bunch of Junji Itos stories with a twist. I am not directly involved but its going to be "more than a game" from the way it is played. Also if you want i can send you one or 2. I have a old model and a newish one. I forget the names but im happy to send you one of each, just give me a shout-out by saying "Room 101 and 7780 Sam sure seems clear" word for word. -- i know that is a odd request but there's a reason for it. Its odd they are called prototypes around office we call then devitas (dev vitas) there are a lot of perferables to alter and change it which is why i assume its called prototype. It was only legal up untill Sony© made the sign off on stopping Vita support by my contract to disclose or sell it; but i can now and we have about 35-40 of them some are different one offs that dont display the game but runs all other processes for testing the UI. That was dissolved quick, and the UI of the Vita remained.
Just reply if you are interested and I'll be sure to give you one in good condition a lot are a little scruffy but i have a solid 7 i know are prestine in condition. I am recovering from cancer and spent a year in a bed or hospital and it gave me time to think, i want to be good to good people, and respect everyone regardless of their personality. Sorry for long post. The meds for the recovery make me extreamly lethargic and these things are just sitting around and money isnt something i need I'm finically secure. I went to get packing for it cause i wanted the best protection and when i told an old friend who was staying with me he told me its illegal for me to sell these. I told him tje contract about anything yo do with them was up, he said no it wasnt. So i want to make sure its not going to get me in Hot water by giving these to the public a safty thing on both our ends cause if you had one i guess it could be assumed stolen and i dont want that. Im going to speak with someone who has full information and can explain parts to me before i ship any of them. Im so frigan sorry i wss excited to send it. Its was packaged so tight and well and then this fear happens. I should HOPEFULLY know today if whoever i can get who knows 100%
