You are only seeing a snippet of the competition. All the other contestants in this series of "back to win" were in the top 3-4 of their respective series. Many of them had their own businesses as a result of being on MC such as their own restaurant, catering business, TV cooking show or launched their own food product lines in supermarkets here in Australia.
No, not only a promotion for Reynold's restaurant. But also for all the judges and all the other contestants to learn some of Reynold secret skills for absolutely free.

I’ve had one of his desserts - we were at a Masterchef dining challenge last season when Gordon Ramsay guest judged. We sat on Reynold’s team in the dining room and we had his Yuzu dessert. One word: amazing!

I think it's okay, because through that disqualification he found his true passion which is dessert. It's okay not to be excellent at everything, but for this competition you have to be good at both, not necessarily excellent at both but definitely good enough to stand out and raw or overcooked food definitely doesn't qualify. The important thing is that he got the exposure he needed to get a boost and make his exceptional talent for making desserts known

Reynold is world-class. He already knew it. Half of his dishes cannot be replicated by even the judges. They would look different and flawed compared to Reynold. He is personally not in this to win the competition. He simply needed a platform for his recognition and he definitely got it!
He's the 'forbidden contestant'. I mean he's already in the realm of the masters, so he doesn't need to bother himself with things such as MasterChef (which is a way to the master realm).
The thing people don't understand about Reynold, all his dishes, you can't get anywhere else, the best restaurant in the world doesn't have what Reynold has and that's special.

It could be replicated pretty quick if you had a batch of each individual element ready to go, a very small, expensive restaurant could pull it off, seems like he would do best in that sort of environment, where he could experiment and change the menu whenever he comes up with something new
Edit: Followed him on instagram, hes currently doing amazing work in a little restaurant, can’t remember what its called, and making some of the same desserts he made throughout masterchef
He is a chef now though. He got a dessert restaurant together with his brothers (one of them is a masterchef judge). And yeah he is an artist. His dishes are too beautiful to eat.

This is only the 4th clip I've seen of this guy. He is what cooking is about. Whether you do pastry or savory, home cook or fine dining...it's all about putting your soul onto every last plate you place in front of someone and Reynold does it every time from what I've seen. This man is a master and these dishes have been an absolute pleasure to lay eyes on.

When Reynold will be on judge panel, idk what will be his expectations from the contestant. But one thing for sure is that if he will praise the contestants then it will be the best compliment they could have earned for their cooking👍. Reynold is really creating stuff at different level.
He was the guest judge on Masterchef Indonesia season 5. The contestants had to duplicate one of his dishes, the “White Noise”. He’s a very kind and humble human being, and indeed he praised the contestants for their hard work. Duplicating one of his dishes is a blessing.

The female one is just the same as the old biggest guy judge, they're both food critics/writers. And besides, they wanted to be paid higher and 10play didn't agree with that
