    Beautiful set. So frustrating when you pay good money and then find these little issues. But all in all, they look great. Was awesome to see you yesterday and hang out.

    Sean, excellent video- comprehensive, well filmed. Is there a web site to check lionel shipping schedule to know what arrives and when. Please help. Gary

      @seanstraindepot  7 місяців тому +1

      They no longer produce a separate ship schedule. They now use the Lionel Store. You look up the item on the store and it will show the arrival date. It's actually been pretty accurate lately.

    For the price we pay for our trains, everything should be perfect. It was great seeing you at Greenbergs show in Oaks

      Yeah, I agree. Luckily Nicholas Smith let me swap out the cars until we found good ones to make a good complete set. They are the best.

      Agreed this set is not cheap.

    Very nice. Those are some fine looking cars. The Central Florida Railroad Museum has some George Washington china on display. It has a similar look to it as the drum head on the observation car, with a gold band around the outside and the portrait set in white. Those cars are still pretty long. I'm running seven to ten car sets of AMT and 2500 series Lionel cars and they take up much of back stretch on my outer main, which is twenty-four feet long. Adding three inches per car would add almost three feet to the train, which is a fair amount. Either way, they look good on your layout. An excellent video, as always.

    Aside from the cheap n' cheesy packaging and the minor flaws you pointed out those 'Nam-built cars look pretty good. As I understand it Lionel's trying to back out of China slowly but surely so I think the more the Vietnam factory does the better they're going to get.
    Thanks for sharing them with us Sean!

    "Some Classic Trains" & "More Classic Trains" were written by Arthur D. Durbin about fifty years ago. They can be purchased economically on eBay with a wee bit of patience. Amongst the passenger trains included are The George Washington & the1938 20th Century Ltd. & the 1938 Broadway Ltd. They illustrate exteriors and interiors of many passenger trains and would help provide background information on the trains you're collecting.

    Nice cars and good video. I have the full set ordered too. Mine should be here soon. However, don't expect the F19 next month. I just heard they're not on the water yet. Some people are hoping they'll be here before November. 🙁

      Oh, it also looks like those cars are identical to the cars from the 1926 Cardinal's train, with different colors.

    PULLMAN GREEN is hexadecimal colour code #3b331c snd is the dark green colour Pullman began using on the exterior of passenger cars circa 1900.

    The "aisle" was a corridor that ran alongside private sleeping accommodations, i.e. Compartments & Drawing Rooms. Compartments had a sink and commode in the room with the seating that transferred into beds at night. Drawing Rooms had an "Annex" containeing the sink and commode for privacy and were more expensive. The sleeping cars with the obsession were actually an indication of more expensive accommodations.

    The roof of the Combination Baggage & Club Car may be reversed; the greater number of ventilators along the clerestory may belong above the club section rather than the baggage end. The club lounge was traditionally where men would go to smoke including pipes and cigars.

    Great review Sean! I can't get over the lime green seats. It's like they 3D printed them and didn't paint them. The different paint on the roofs is also concerning. I've never seen such a drastic difference, and in the same pack, no less! - Ryan

      Yeah, Nicholas Smith swapped out the cars for me so I could get all matching ones. But I will have to take care of the Lime green seats myself, lol. This is why I don't buy very much new stuff, but the GW set was one I always wanted, so....

      @seanstraindepot that gw set is on my must have list but the budget right now would not allow. Found 3 items on my 8 item must have list in this budget year, so funds went quickly. My must have list was started 14 years ago. ReL nicely done video, Sean. Gary

    A great review of a very beautiful passenger set, Sean. Too bad about the flaws that make the set look a little less than perfect. I hope you can find more acceptable match-ups to make the set more pleasing visually.

      HAHA. I think they are new to train making. Paint finishes seem to be the biggest issue. Luckily, I was able to swap them out and get a whole set with no blemishes.

    It’s real easy to fix the diaphragms, just pull them out and flip them. They used to come not installed.

      Yeah, I also I had to wash them under hot water because the foam they used, fused to the rubber when I tried to pull it out.

      @@seanstraindepot Wow, that’s not good. The ones I had they one was missing the roller and I had to solder a new one on. On thing I really don’t like about them is the resale value is horrible. But you have a nice set.

    Nice video as always. But, if you Lionel guys would stop paying the ridiculous money for this Lionel Crap maybe they would stop making this stuff in 3rd world factories. Just a thought! Although if I want American Flyer I have the same issue. But I did stop buying anything new from them. No reason they can’t have better Quality Control . Cbtrainnut

    • @johnandrus3901
      @johnandrus3901 7 місяців тому +1

      How true. If they are going to stay overseas, go back to S. Korea, Taiwan, Japan, India or even an Easter European country, like Poland. They actually make some pretty nice stuff. So it may add an hundred bucks to an already $2000+ locomotive. You can't crab about an extra C-note, if the quality drastically improves Either way, it would be good to get out of the Communist Block countries.

    • @seanstraindepot
      @seanstraindepot  7 місяців тому +2

      Well Lionel will never bring back manufacturing to US. It costs too much. You think the prices are high now, they would be ridiculous. Plus, they are owned by an investment company. They only care about profits simple as that. So, at this point we just have to check and exchange/return if there are defects. I don't buy as much as I used to since I have plenty.

    • @johnandrus3901
      @johnandrus3901 7 місяців тому

      @@seanstraindepot True. I doubt that it will return to the US, at least in my lifetime. It would at least be better if they moved to a country that is more friendly with the US. like Korea, where they once were, or one of the other countries that I mentioned in my answer to the gentleman's comment. I've always thought that Viet Nam was an insult to those, like my brother, who served there during the conflict. Either way, if they keep sending stuff back, it may help increase quality. As I stated, an excellent video, as always.

    • @seanstraindepot
      @seanstraindepot  7 місяців тому +1

      @@johnandrus3901 Yeah the Korean factories made the absolute finest trains. Both Lionel & MTH used those factories and trains made during that era were the best. Seems to be that most of Lionel's rolling stock and passenger cars are now coming out of Vietnam and engines out of China (which is why they don't match a lot of times).
