The fact you can zoom in and see the inside with the crews just blows my mind. Like when people talk about games getting better in graphics, it's usually always just about the fidelity, hi-res textures, more geometry, like standard stuff. But to me, THIS is what is impressive with newer generation graphics. It looks so damn awesome and it makes it feel like your ship (or whatever you use in a game) is actually more than just some random thing on a screen with an invisible HP bar but like truly immersive and "real". You end up caring way more about trying to survive because you feel more attached to your ship/vehicle and crew.
Same thing that makes Bomber Crew a great game. In their case, it isn't even about the graphics. Just the fact that you can look inside of the plane and control all your little dudes was lovely to do.
@@imlost19 Time. Image if it only allowed real time? There was a game put on based on the movie The Hunt for Red October. One of the features of that sub was a cork screw propeller. It made nearly no noise, but speed was extremely slow. Can you imagine doing real time trying to take off from the area of Barents Sea to crossing the Atlantic so you will not be heard ? It would take weeks
So a few things from my playing of uboat awhile ago. Once the deck catches fire WAIT and see if the fire alone is enough to finish off the ship. Saves deck gun rounds many times that don't need to be used. The ricochet you saw was you had flipped the ammo from AP rounds to star shell rounds (SS) right before the ricochet thus were wasting some of those rounds. So yeah you used 30 AP rounds and all 5 of your SS rounds since you failed to notice the change. It takes time for the fire to do it's work (look at the solid green part of the health bar versus the darker green part of the bar. If you would just go into follow mode on the ship when the fire starts and wait to see if it gets sunk or the fire goes out prior to sinking. If the fire goes out resume shooting till she sinks or catches fire again. One reason to carry HE rounds and to aim for the deck to try to catch it on fire but obviously AP can also get the job done. Just less effective at starting fires with AP. AP rounds are more for punching holes close to the waterline to induce flooding.
That third torp hit was just beautiful! "We miss... oh, never mind!" Imagine being on one of those three ships knowing that at any time a U-boat could be stalking you and calculating how to decimate you while you're chugging along at six knots. Scary!
I spoke to a guy who served in the British navy during WW2 and his life regret was not getting into the submariners for that very reason ie. he hated the feeling of being stalked, and wanted to be doing the stalking
It's similar to rimworlds settings... Free Simply means they would do absolutely nothing but relax, eat, sleep the works. Anything, they would do task according to the availability of the work as well as how busy it gets. Then rest if they feel like it. Work has no rest or doing "anything" they feel like.
And I bet that it hurts crew morale to assign a man that is listed as "Free" to carry out a task, but it also hurts crew morale to only have "Work" or "Available" so you have to think about what kind of reserves you're going to have and how much rest and morale-recharging free time to give.

I hope the Devs will later on make a surface ship game with these mechanics. Like play as Bismarck or Tirpitz in this style. Alternative history maybe where they survive. EDIT: The Nelson? Well if WoW has taught us anything, it's that the Nelson's damage control teams have an entire second Nelson stored away in the cargo hold and a LOT of flex tape
The difference between "Anything" and "Free" is that in case of an emergency, crew members with regime set on "Free" won't work or help working, but in "Anything" setting they might be an all around help, if necessary. I really reccomend you to set at the beginning and the end of every shift about 2 nodes (analogically 2 hours) of "Anything". This would allow your crew members to chill out, while being available as an all around help if urgently needed. Similar system is in RimWorld, where each of the colonists (analogical to crew members in UBOOT) have their activities regulated by special timetable based regime, just as in this game. Additionally, RimWorld is having a "Recreation" and "Sleep" modules in timetable.

few tips about realism:The lower torpedo depth is needed to pass the boulge protection (on battleships) or to do larger amount of damage by a single torpedo to the else targets. It must be combined with detonator type. The impact one will work on hit, the magnetic one will explode in the vecinity of a large metal mass. So, for example if the enemy ship have 6 meters depth - you can set the torpedo's depth `bit lower and it will explode under the keel. It sounds weird but the water mass is heavier than the air one, so if the torpedo is detonated even in the vecinity of the ship's structure - the power of the explosion wave will destroy any kind of armor without any problem. (under keel there's none by the way). Also it can help if the enemy ship's bow angle is low (for example a pursuing destroyer). The impact detonator will not work but the magnetic one - yes but under the keel. The first types of magnetic detonators had some malfunctions (they could explode in case of big wave activity) but the impact ones also wasn't 100% working, so they was modernised all the time. Anyways, the explosion under the keel can be a fatal strike to any merchant or tanker even by one torpedo hit. To the modern battleships could be also but that depends from the hit region. The big warships usually have hermetic sectors and if the surviving officers will do their jobs - the ship can survive if the strike wasn't a fatal one. The old battleships had no bulge protection but the modern ones had, and their torpedo survivability was increased significantly. The boulge armor denied the most of the explosion. Also about the torps, the steam ones leave significant bubble tail. The electric ones also leave some bubbles but just from the fast propeller rotation without the propulsion engine bubbles, in case if the torpedo is deeply under the water - they even don't reach the surface. For the steam ones the high depth could save some time, the bubble tail was far behind the real torpedo position. Also the torps had protection system, they must travel some time before getting armed, a minimal action range limit usualy was set to (200-300meters). That was done to skip the accidents in case if the armed torps wasn't launched away from their tubes by some malfunction reasons, so if they not pass the needed distance - they will not arm&explode near or inside the uboat.

It bother me as well not to have the deck gun pointing straight, it makes the whole boat look silly xD
Good work.
Thank you!
I was going to sunk the HMS Nelson only to find the she was on shore and glitch all to hell I even reloaded the mission but same that was before the update we have currently
You were shooting canister shot for AA there. You accidentally switched ammo type.
Deck guns centred: how I feel in my JB
You had switched to "SS" shells at around 27:42 - presumably, that stands for "Star Shells". I think YOU were the one firing off flares, lol.
wow! Finally!
Guten Tag Herr Kaleun
Danke
Watch out for rocket carrying planes later in the war. They are deadly.
Ohhh that sounds brutal.
That crew shift managerr and task priorities seems like it was pulled straight from RimWorld,, which is no bad thing. If the task tab works like Rimworld then it gives priority to the high number, if two number are the same then it's prioritises from left to right.
Ah I see. Thanks for the tip!
Sorry I dont have the refference, so what would the difference be between "free" and "anything"?

Great action. I really enjoy your game play. I do have a question though.... of the currently available submarine games which do you recommend for someone who knows nothing about subs. I'm more a flight sim guy but sub sims have always interested me. Thanks.
If you want to play coop multiplayer I suggest Wolfpack it is a lot of fun with friends. Uboat is fun but is still in early assess. It is rather accessible too. Of course there is the Silent Hunter as well.
Cold Waters is an excellent sub sim that Wolfpack also plays. It's kind of technical though but still a blast to play.
wish they would do a new SSII, loved that gme on a commodor in the 90s
Yeah I hope that happens as well. Microprose is back so who knows!
@@Wolfpack345 the thing is, i used to fire me torps, manually, by using a stopwatch, and calculator, its more fun sinking a nice big AC, then using auto fire
Thanks wolfpack345 uboat and il2-sturmovik 2 more addictions to add to my list 😊 when u record vr on il2 sturmovik how do you stop screen edges shifting?? Using oculus mirror and record using obs. Keep up the good content capitan. 👍
I don't have a VR headset (yet :p ). I just use track IR to look around.
@@Wolfpack345 OK that'll be why my recording looks mediocre hahaha. Loving sturmovik vr and 6dof it's brilliant will never be like the real thing but it's an insight into it all. Respects to them all. Cheers for the reply 😊 on uboat right now unstable branch some nice managment updates 👍👍 keep up the good work. you have a great tone in the way u put forward your videos they are a good watch. Njoy. glad I subbed (sorry for the pun)
Is it possible to strafe the life rafts?
I never adjust the torpedo depth. I haven’t seen it make a difference in the game. I thought the draft depth could be lowered in order to shoot underneath smaller ships in order to hit larger ships behind them
Yep, UA-cam name checks out
Can't beat silent hunter's immersion
Silent Hunter 3 with this graphic would be awesome though.
Wow this looks utterly amazing. I bouught it a few days ago but havent gotten around to playing it yet, Does the camera really get that close?
It sure does! It is pretty neat 😄 I hope you are enjoying the game/!
@@Wolfpack345 - It's blowing my mind but it takes a lot of learning to play which is great because it makes it more intense
