This is the part of the year with most people and least water. Although water level is always the same in the lakes, it is just less water going over the waterfalls cause summer is least rainy time of the year. For those that want to visit I would suggest period from early May to mid June because of beautiful fresh spring colors and more water. And of course October because of spectacular autumn colors and usually more water than in summer, and there can also be plenty of water then if September rains are bit more abundant. But if summer is your only option don't worry, it's great then too. Plitvice lakes never fail to amaze me, at any time and even after 100 visits I must add that this year it is not crowded as usual cause there are no Asians, Americans and Australians because of travel restrictions. So basically only Europeans are visiting and even them in smaller numbers of course. Also April is another nice month to visit, plenty of water, but forest is still bare, this is quite cold mountain area so spring bloom begins in May. Snow can fall in April too but it won't last more than few days, temps are usually pleasant. In March there can still be snow but more usually in the first half of the month. In winter months park is open but because of the snow it often happens that only lower lakes are available to visitors. But it is spectacular in a different way cause waterfalls are frozen with deep blue ice. Interestingly lakes rarely freeze although temps can drop to -20°C, so even in the depth of winter you'll have this turquoise color to enjoy, most of the time. If you are visiting in winter I would suggest having those smaller crampons (spikes) that attach to the shoes cause trails can be icy and slippery in places, because of the spraying water and many shoes also polish the surface of the snow on the trails so it becomes very slippery
@@nicolaskottis5245 Well yeah, Internet changed travel industry, nothing is secret anymore, and everyone want's to go to the best and most popular places, it is just the new reality, there's no going back :)

Amazing video. Nice memories for me, I was there 3 years ago. German Winnetou films (Eurowesterns) in the 1960s were mostly filmed there and in the Paklenica National Park nearby. Although Croatia is mostly known for beaches and coastal towns, is also very beautiful in inland mountainous regions, just like Montenegro (Žabljak Durmitor region). This is the world of Dinaric Alps with limestone karst. Slovenian Postojna and Škocjan Caves are part of the same range.
Plitvice Lakes are THE HEAVEN ON THE EARTH ! And the people are just lovely and the native ladies are selling the most beautiful home made cakes and pastries in the world.
Yes, Croatia is currently open to US citizens, but you need to provide a negative Covid test to customs that was taken in the past 48 hours or else quarantine for 14 days.

Brought back a lot of memories, when I was last there 26 years ago there were no swimming restrictions but it is good to see that the park is being preserved for future generations. There used to be a stuffed bear and a badger in the entrance to the main hotel. My favourite was the dancing bar down by the swimming pool in the hotel but in all the times I visited I never saw the bar dancing.

@@jimmorris8646 Nah, 19th century was probably the most peaceful century for this region ever. It was close to the border with Ottoman empire, but not under it's control anymore.

Gabriel, you can NOT swim in the lakes or fly over with drone, warnings are on entrances. Any polution, even the one from sun creme would be devastating (those are travertine lakes). Also no drones because there was many of them ended up in lakes. If you want to swim there is Korana river near by, it's going trough town of Slunj but I recommend swimming upstream from town. When there you can also take a visit to village of Rastoke (waterfall village) and try local trout ;)
