As far as mixing up the soil, I like to use one of those giant drill bit looking attachments in my drill which makes it so easy to stir up everything. It's like a mini auger.

Gary!--- I used ASA last night on my tomatoes and peppers---I found 5 paralyzed horn worms on the plants this morning. They are stiff and can't crawl! I think we found solutions to two challenges! Thank you for your experimental ways...

I am planning on planting a few bucket of old wood chips on the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket then mix 50/50 rabbit 💩 & chicken dirt to plant some peppers in. Maybe some more summer squash also. I need to make me some wood ash for my plants.
Suggestion... put a piece of landscape fabric that drains well in the bottom of your bucket, then fill it up. Every pot I put wood chips in had ant colonies in them.

When is BOGO?
I wonder if anyone has liked using the Green Stalk planter in a very hot climate like Florida. I wonder how often you'd have to water it to make it work.
You would have to water it at least 2x daily, a vertical tower. This one is probably best but depending on what you are growing 2x maybe 3, based on plant size.

I like the idea of these towers but is there not always one side of the tower that doesn't get a lot of sun and therefore doesn't produce?
How do you manage that detail?
You can get wheels or a spinner for your GreenStalk tower and rotate it ...

They have and amazing spinner. However, I am very lucking my sun tracks all around my garden. The north side isn't as strong but plants get light.

Hey Gary, I've been watching your videos for a few years now and you've really inspired me to get growing on my own backyard garden. I'm in central Maryland as well so I feel like I can do pretty much everything you're doing as you're doing it which has also been really helpful.
I've seen these types of vertical planters before but I'm curious since there are no casters on them and it doesn't appear to rotate, how do you ensure that the plants all the way around the planter get enough sun?
So glad you are getting started. You can buy casters but they also have a really cool spinner base that is amazing. My garden tracks sun from AM to PM so I am very lucky. But I have some on casters and just give them a spin when I walk buy every couple days. You can also do more shade tolerant plants on the north side.

I do. The diseases in my area are all around. They show up. The soil matters little as they showed up once and will show up again. The key is preventative spraying

I'd be very curious to see what kind of harvest you will get from such an overcrowded plant setup. I think the yield per plant will be considerably smaller vs growing single/double plants in larger containers.
Ive actually planted peppers in them for years. It works well. The are smaller but the yield is great. The key is keeping up on feeding and watering.

Thank you, Gary and Kim, for sharing this. I have several pepper plants and many other plants that need to be put into my new GreenStalks ASAP. We're supposed to be in 3 digit heat next week. I bought 3 during the Mother's day sale. I might buy 2 more during this July 4th sale, and use your code. I notice you don't have any spinner or wheel base. How do you turn your GreenStalk for all sides to catch the sun?
So I do have the spinners on some and they really help. I am lucky how the sun tracks around my garden so all sides get sun. A spinner would improve the north side though.

So, fairly inexpensive finds of Topsoil in my area, however, peat moss can only be found in small bags. I like that mixture, especially cause I can add specific additives and my own vermicomposted castings.
From where could I purchase peat moss in large quantities? Tks. Awesome video
I get my large bales of peat from Home Depot or Lows. Like 2 cubic feet for $12

I have a new greenstalk this spring. Everything is doing horrible. Not sure why? I used a great mix that I made. Do you plant before you stack the towers? I didn’t. That’s the only thing I can think. I do have the holes lined up where they should be? I’m really disappointed 😢👎🏼

Hey Gary I was watch sopranos last night and I had a thought, I have tomatoes near a wooden fence so the sunlight they get is limited. What if I put some kind of reflector up against the fence to reflect more sunlight like aluminum or something chrome... would that help?

I’ve heard two different thoughts of planting peppers so close together. They won’t cross pollinate? I heard the only cross pollination happens in the seeds. I grow both hot and sweet and didn’t know if I could do that with growing vertical?
Its only a issue for seeds that you save to use next year.
Right as mention... the cross shows up in next years seeds.

Lol, they are friends. She and her husband (running the camera as he does on all of Kim's videos) came to visit Gary and his wife. They visit, it seems, every year.

I dont like those towers..what i found is the sun didnt get to all the circle and about half didnt grow....i gave mine away.
Depends where you place them. and you can buy a spinner base. But shade is an issue growing vertically.
