Amazing 10 year old second hand laptop. Got it for 300ish bucks and it plays VR just fine (1), alyx runs smooth on my CV1 at low settings so I'm still happy. If you're considering it you NEED an active DP-to-HDMI adapter for VR. The Thunderbolt/DP port is the only port that is directly connected to the GPU. Ps. Seriously, Linus. The fact that you tell us to dislike it if we did... it's so damn awesome. All other UA-camrs act like it's not an option, I'm glad that you can be so transparent about it.
Man Linus, the awesomeness of your videos is growing tremendously each and every day. Keep up the good stuff and one fine day you and your team might get nobel tech prize(If it exists) .
I really liked this video. I'm just waiting for someone to talk about the Lenovo Y410p. I'm planning on getting it, but I want to see what other people think about it.
TheDorapapi321 Haha, you get a great dedicated 2GB card (765M like you said) an i7 mobile and it's 1920x1080 not 1600x900. Runs games great and I've never seen it get too hot. Expandable, I put a 240GB SSD plus the stock 1TB HD space. Factory 8GB and upgradable to a possible 32GB with two 16GB sticks. Handles 3DS Max, After Effects, Photoshop, you name it. Thunderbolt IO plus 4 USB 3.0 ports, universal SD adapter, HDMI and VGA out. For $800, I don't see how I got anything less than what I paid for.
TheDorapapi321 you seem to have some issues with this laptop as this isn't the first video where you commented on it as "dogshit". Who took a shit in your cornflakes this morning, dude?
The Norbenator I sure did! Thanks for the ego boost. =D I think the others are going to start using this style now based on this video (and the other few I've done similarly).
I still have my G750JX and I love it. The thing is a beast. Plays games well even with the GTX 770m and it's amazing for all the VMs and Server software I run for school.
i recently purchased this laptop for work/programming purposes with mild gaming on the side and feel even better about my choice after watching this video. thanks for being so informative.
This product is definitely for me. I had been looking at this specific laptop for a while with some worry/doubts on its performance for the money. This video was tremendously useful, I'll definitely being buying it! Thanks!
When batterys finally get some more development into them (there lagging behind) ill really might consider one of these gaming laptops. I really dont see the point (apart from portability) that these laptops get at. If you buy this laptop for its intended use, portable gaming, your going to game on battery life it really needs to last long and seeming that most laptops like this use loads of power thats a problem. I completely understand if you just want the portability of this gaming laptop but if you ever really had to run it off battery power the thing wouldn't really last (just my opinion from experience)
The battery is just kinda like a UPS for half an hour while gaming or so, so if you have powerloss you can continue gaming, or if you have to move your notebook from one place to another, that's my perspective :) i wouldn't game with it on my lap anyways.
Really good review on this gaming laptop. I was in San Diego in the summer of 2013 and purchased an ASUS RoG G750JW. This laptop was pretty close in specs to my model but a bit different.
Been following you for a while now and gotta say you're becoming a killer at what you do. Very professional, intelligible and concise. Keep up the good work
I enjoyed it very much and I love how you say "who is this product for" for some expensive systems and that helps me a lot. Thank you for making these videos and I wish you keep going.
The laptop looks great, I'd probably buy something like this if I needed it, but the comparison to a desktop is completely wrong. I just priced it out on PC part picker, using highly rated good quality parts that match the specs. The 4770K and 4700HQ are not equivalent. It's actually along the lines of a 4670K. I went with 32 GB (8GB More) @ 1600Mhz (which I think is faster although the Asus website does not list the speed. As well as a H100i (Which blows this laptops cooling out of the water and includes 2 120mm fans), as well as two more nice 140mm fans for the side and bottom of the Fractal R4. Kept Windows 8.1, Asus Blu-Ray Reader and DVD/CD Writer. Put in a custom cooled 4GB 770 (which matches or beats the 880M in all benchmarks, and can be overclocked to much higher). I used 2 128GB 500MBs+ SSDs (Most likely faster than the msata drives in the laptop), although a single 256 would be a cheaper choice, along with a 1TB drive, although a 2-3TB one is a better option at only a tiny bit more. I chose a very nice board with TWO thunderbolt ports. I also chose a tenkeyless mechanical (QFR, although a backlit membrane would be cheaper if you really wanted that). I'm not counting the mouse because anyone that does any gaming on that laptop is going to buy a mouse anyway because trackpads are not equivalent. And finally, a 24" Asus TN display with a low response time, with a 1080P video, 2560x2048 photo webcam to go on top. And guess what it all comes down to? 2200? 2500? No... $1885, a whopping $394 below the price of this laptop. And again that's with WAY better cooling and overclocking headroom, 8GB more RAM, Faster RAM, Faster SSDs, a much larger display, a better webcam, an extra thunderbolt port, support for up to 4 displays at once, a mechanical keyboard. And all that, with the ability to upgrade everything in the future. All of the replaceable parts on the laptop are ones that wouldn't make a noticeable change in the performance. GPU and GPU changes aren't possible. Is there reason for some people to want this over a desktop? Yes. Is it going to cost them a significant amount to have that portability? YES. This is a minimum of a ~$400 premium, and it could be a lot more if I you go for the H100i or the larger capacity ram. And going to 2TB would cost ~$10 more, and another 10 or 20 on top of that for 3TB. And really, that ram isn't necessary, and neither is the thunderbolt, which many people buying this laptop will never use, and the second SSD isn't really necessary either. If you were smart about the build and optimized it for your purposes, say gaming for instance, you could get a MUCH faster GPU and a far superior gaming experience, for the same $1885 or less.
PokemonArceus0304 What the hell do you mean "What builder do I use?"... Anyone that has $1500-2500 to spend on a high end gaming PC should be competent enough to spend an hour or two putting their own PC together. If you are too stupid to do so even with the thousands of video guides available on the internet (a few of which are made by linus... Like do you even watch this channel?), then you honestly have no hope of actually operating and maintaining the PC. Maintaining a PC especially for high end gaming, as well as actually choosing the absolute best components for your budget and use-case, are WAY more mentally challenging than assembling the parts. Whether you buy or build a PC, you are going to have to maintain it yourself. Building it is easy, and choosing the parts can easily be offloaded onto a friend that knows their shit, or the people over at /r/buildapc. And if you really are that completely incompetent, there are many people that you can find that will do it for $20-50, or free if it's a kind friend.
lmao you typed all this in without thinking of shipping prices if they can be all bought online whether they have to pay a tax on top of the part if not online, then miss the point of who this is for it clearly isnt for you which is fine but to compare the parts you did with whats in the laptop that is manufactures for maybe 15% the price your paying for with a probably let me guess 25%+ markup to make money off it your comparing an apple to an orange and it doesnt make sense to do so
I don't think you understand that this is a standalone machine that is portable while a desktop is not. And the $400 premium you pay is what Asus can charge for their hard work put into custom manufacturing the parts for this laptop.
I think this laptop is for me because i am a marine engineer and i love gaming so much but thing is im always on the go and traveling all over the world .so this is the perfect choice for someone like me :) Cant wait to have my hands on this beast . Love ur work linus
So thorough. Much Logic. Very wow. *thumbsup.jpg* Seriously though, awesome video, I've always wanted to do something like what you did but I've never had the opportunity, it's surprising how close the Lappy came to the desktop's numbers.
Bought this about 2 months ago. It hurts your wallet but warms your heart. Being able to bring your comp to friends and game. But not having to play at 10 fps on laptop is nice.
I bought the previous model or this laptop, the G75 and have no regrets. It works fantastically, can play every game from 2012 at max textures solidly, and every game from this year at 1080p at medium-low detail and 50+FPS. I mostly use it at home plus occasional LAN parties at friends houses Great product!
Vega M I freaked out when I saw the link, it looks OK but only one fan worries me... Asus ROG has always been my favorite for the cool temps and quiet fans. I'm curious to see if they can still pull that off with just one fan.
***** The 760m + i5 4200m option should be decent, not sure how it would deal with the i7 4700mq, i think it would have been a better idea if they went with the G46vw design.
Vega M Did some research... its just a rebranded N56JR with a few external changes (paintjob and such). Not really a TRUE Rog laptop in my opinion. Looks like I'm still going for MSI GS60.
just pick this up from the deepest part of storage, install all recent win10 update and this beast still work just like new. wtf this thing is awesome Asus
I love a video with no ads :) I know I give you shit but really you and Slick are awesome. I have been a fan for quite some time now. I like the way your videos are produced. The meme faces were funny. And I love ASUS.
Oops actually i meant an ad at the end of the video. I don't really mind the ad at the start but at the end, I don't like it. However, Linus needs to do what he needs to do and since it's free for me to watch, I don't really have any room to complain.
i myself hate the 15-30 second unskipable video ads on most youtube vids but if ya do what linus does im more likely to 1 pay attention to it and 2 not be annoyed by your advert. but idk thats just me
i had a asus G53 for almost 3 years, and you know what i really appreciated it so much when i started going on business trips for 3 days or more, this laptop is so good for gaming on the go, in fact im writing this comment from a hotel room lol
Some people express a lot of hate or disgust on these "hyped overpriced gimmicks", or so they say, but they fail to realize this: gaming notebooks save a lot of money when it comes to overall power consumption (250-- watts vs 650++ watts).. not to mention they take 80+% less desk space mobile gaming is perfect for jet laggers like me. nice and funny video Linus :)
STFU, ALIENWARE IS GOOD I GOT MY EPIC SET HERE, SPECS; PENTIUM 3 @ 3.1GHZ ATI RADEON X1500 256 MB 1GB RAM WINDOWS 98 AND IT ONLY COSTS 1000$ !!! 50% OFF
please make a omg, look at me, I'm high performance song. if linus does not want to: luke, please take quotes of linus and patch them together to a song
Hey Linus Does it have 120hz screen¿??? . . . . . i heared about replace bluray device for more storage or another gpu or removable device to switch thoose xD WE DONT NEED PERPETUAL BLUE RAY ( digital era ) :v
Thank you for this great video guys. onre thing is missing thought:::: Temperature measures. In my opinion , that's an importing detail especially when using 880m and a 47**k, these parts can go crazy in that small box. Thanks again guys, alway watching you videos, so keep it coming !!!!!!!!!
Nobody gives attention to Eurocom for their laptops! Their laptops can include desktops cpus and SLI mobile GPUs. Plus, as crazy as it seems for a notebook, you can upgrade the CPU and GPU/GPUs
I've been using my g750jx for about half a year now and there is nothing I can complain about. All of the games I have played run at 60fps(note the notebook monitor's frequency is 60Hz so everything >60fps is unreal) and the gameplay quality is amazing. Also, the weight isn't that much of a deal. If in backpack it is easy to carry. And just one thing for those who intend to buy it: do not expect to be playing games when on battery. The laptop uses the onboard intel graphics card when it runs on battery(games may drop under 20 fps in such cases).
I bought the previous G75 and this is a beast. Also all those details Linus mentioned about ports, removable lid/cleaning fans, etc. kill any other laptop for gaming or workstation. BEST CHOICE EVER
32GB RAM version with 512 SSD or the 24GB RAM version with 128HB version? I am on a budget but I want a really powerful laptop that has good cooling. I do not care about weight that much. I am sorta on a budget and I want to keep this laptop for 8 long ass mothafuckin' years! I only want to use the SSD for the OS system and some programs such as Skype or Teamspeak. I also want to load things such as long documents on Microstoft word and some games on steam. I also want to ask if this is a fairly durable laptop. I want to be able to put it into a bookbag and be able to maybe survive a couple bangs and drops WHILE in the bag.
I am writing this in 2020 from the G750 JW that i bought on October 2013 (6 and a half years ago). The battery is brand new because i didnt use the laptop with it, the keyboard is still going, and i play forza horizon 4 (1080p all low) with 30 - 35 fps, ghost recon breakpoint (720p all low) with 25 - 30 fps on an unsupported any more gtx765m. Its simply one of the greatest laptops ASUS ever made.
I used to own a lower spec version of this model before (G750JV). It was damn good and I used it for nearly 4 years (throughout my undergraduate studies) and it worked brilliantly. Did everything, worked fine and no reliability issues whatsoever. So yeah this laptop is great if you want a somewhat portable workstation with good performance. Plus, because it is quite heavy, lugging it around in your backpack gives you some exercise !
The only problem with this laptop is ASUS does not support windows 7 Professional, well windows 7 in general. I'm getting this laptop for college and my major is Digital Media and Design, my major needs these beefy specs. Although they highly recommend Windows 7 Professional and I do as well
You will have no difference in experience for your classed between Windows 7 Home, 7 Pro, 8, or 8 Pro. The person who wrote that in the syllabus was projecting their own opinions about Windows on to the students.
I would do that if that could not cause problems with UEFI bios and etcetc ive read enough of complaints on issues to decide to dig my wishes and work on 8. Still 7 is better.
can you review the lenovo y510p? The one with the I7 4700mq (whatever it's called) was recently on sale for 930 dollars, i didn't get it because i didn't know how it compared to other laptops, can you review it to see if i missed out?
I have a ROG Laptop, The Asus G73. I Bought it because i really hade no space for having a desktop. So it would be nice if i could easly move it around if i needed the space the computer was normally in. And i also love that i can moveit easly to my 42inch 3D tv and have it as a blueray station or connect it to the tv watching movies, youtube and twitch on a large screen. I have had no problems at all with my Asus, exept that it Overheated but that was because my fans was filled with dust. i took 5 minutes to clean and then it was ready to go again. I cleaned 2-3 times a year so its perfect. I also love the keybord and the ouse that comes with. I sit alot by the computer but have never hade any problems with the comfort or pain in my hands, wrists and arms. And it performs very well. I love Asus.
It could possibly be cheaper to order one in America, and then have it shipped to the UK, since the price difference is so big. But I'm not sure how much customs will have you pay to import it.
oh come on linus, you know the pricing on the desktop was bullshit. a gtx 770 build will only run about 1200$ (excluding windows since you can just transfer it from a old computer) and in total, with monitor, mice, and keyboard will run about 1500-1600$.
4770K, 24GB RAM, and 2 SSDs cut's it pretty close. But I'm sure those prices were based off of NCIX's store. Also, other factors needed to be included. Like buying a sexy computer case that has similar sexiness to the laptop, and also including a monitor, keyboard, and mouse with similar quality. All those things tend to add up.
Ammine Getahun why a 4770k? a desktop i5 3570k is still way more powerful than a 4700hq. 24 gb of ram and 2 ssds will bump up the price a bit, but most people would go with 8/12/16 gb and go with a hdd+ssd instead. the case doesnt need to be good to work, and compared to other laptops ROG computers look like trash. and its not like its going to be your FIRST EVER computer (if it is thats just sad) youll probably have a keyboard on you, and it doesnt matter whether you its a desktop or a laptop, everybody needs to buy a mice. what arre you going to use, the trackpad?
got that right, I posted a component list to and as you said I capped at 1600$, clearly his promoting asus heavily. I must say I am kinda disappointed cuz sure this wasn`t a mistake on their part.
I have this notebook, it is amazing! I have had no problems at all with it. It's great, and though the price is high, its really worth the cost for the performance you get out of it!
Time to test the beast that is the Alienware 18 with.... TWO 880M's.... That thing is so big and heavy and the battery life sucks but I still want it :(
+Seth Winfrey im still running on 1300x765 and i dont have a dedicated gpu, im runnign on a pentium n3285. can barely run CSGO on lowest settings and res
I also have a better laptop now than I had then. Except it has an even worse 1366x768 screen that looks...like crap frankly. (awesome on performance and battery though).
alas, my laptop is also 1366x768, but its got a 950m 4gb and an I5 5200u, so its a decent little gaming rig, the really kicker is that i got it for 600 bucks :P
People call this pc fat and ugly and prefers the razer blade to those people i say lets set them up as a video game and the razer blade is like all the bosses you fight and then when you are about to beat the game this monster comes out of nowhere and graps you and then puts you into its massive fans and just rips you apart thats kinda what this pc does to the razer blade ( sorry for no kommas or dots i hav a really hard time putting them in)
i wanst tryng to call him out its just saing that knowing razer blade was prietty shitty thing i had check out the NEW razer blade an i saw a review abbout it and thught it was better
StikManJones Two reasons why I bought a G750JH (780m 3GB one) 1st of all it's Asus, you can never go wrong with Asus. Their customer care, reputation and quality are by far the best I've came across. Last year I was between three laptops. Gigabyte's last year's P27, MSI's GT70'D and the ROG G750 series. When I saw the build quality, read a lot of reviews, benchmarks and the usual stuff I simply fell in love with it... the Asus. The cooling on this is phenomenal! Never has the keyboard layout on the frame been slightly hot/warm (Games: WoW, BF4, BioShock all on Ultra). Worth the €2400 I spent on it, don't regret even a single penny.
Thank you for uploading this is UA-cam 4K as well! I can actually watch it since my internet is fast enough and it makes a big difference compared to 1920x1080! Please also upload the NCIXcom vids in YouTub 4k as well!
Absolutely loved this. As I work in a fly in fly out roll this for me is an excellent substitute for my desktop and will definitely be buying one when I finish this swing at work
Alex Z lol i just got back from a military exersize where we walked across a mountain on skis for a week... we carry around 75kg of equipment then theres the sledge with an additional 40kg of stuff which a teammate has to pull for 50 min at the time... so have to pull the sledge around 1-2 times a day. civilian mountain climbing is a joke, 2ez4me but yeah those jelly legs they have is a joke too so it only makes sense, tho logan looks like a badass on the outside (but hes prolly not)
I own a G750JX-QS71-CB. (last gen, same chassis and processor though) I LOVE my notebook, to say the least, I found going back to my old 14.1" like looking at a postage stamp. Heavy = yes, but you won't notice it after a few minutes. The best software it comes with is Asus's Power4Gear Hybrid power management software, it clocks the cpu down to 800 MHz, bringing it down to near zero heat output and does the same with the gpu. this thing is SILENT, the fans don't spin, and the hard drive is also usually parked. Great for classtime, or boardroom presentations. 800 MHz does not sound like a lot, but it's enough to run: HD video, a 700 mb 1080P video enabled powerpoint, and minesweeper. When you need the gaming performance, simply press (Fn+SpaceBar) and press "Performance" and the laptop will instantaneously on-the-spot turn into a full fledged gaming comp raming the CPU up to 3.8 ghz oc'd, and downshifting the latency of the PCI bus, turning the HDD & SSD to performance mode, Network adapters into full performance mode cranking up the cooling to match. Difference in battery life is 3x from 6 hours on power saving, to 2-3 hours in performance mode. Because I have the CB model, it has a bi-lingual keyboard, but it's not hard to get used to. other issue I've found is that it takes some getting used to the Power4Gear "shifting", and it's not compatible with WiDi because it doesn't use intel HD graphics. Audiowizard sounds cool, but on an external output will TANK quality, so turn it off before plugging in headphones or a sound system. I REALLY wish the thing had an ambient light sensor, because I've opened it at night and blinded myself! that being said, it's not quite good enough to use outside, but plenty bright to use on a podium. The included mouse is terrible feature wise, but what do you expect for free! the backpack included is pretty good, but too small for me to use daily, all it does is carry the laptop. You'll find it hard to buy a laptop bag big enough because it extends past the back, so even the ones that say "fits 17.3" laptops" don't actually fit this one! I'm thinking of throwing in another SSD, but right now the included 256 gb is good enough for me. Oddly enough, both the SSD and the hard drive come 50/50 partitioned from the factory...
***** yeah, he's right just use an adapter. my pc doesn't have a VGA cable but I just use a DVI to VGA converter for an old crappy 2nd monitor next to my 1080p one
Nathan Williams But ASUS is mainly a business class company, and even though ROG is for gamers they still have to think about other customers. When someone is in a meeting and has to present something on a projector they need the VGA port. It's not like it takes up to much room so it's not really hurting anyone.
Nathan Williams Unfortunately DVI never really appeared on laptops ever, mostly due to the interface's huge size. Manufacturers skipped it for HDMI and miniDP, both of which are fully digital and would require an expensive active converter box to output to VGA. VGA connections are still necessary in the business world as all but the most expensive data projecters haven't picked up a HDMI/DP connection yet.
bought it in 2014 and it still works as good as it used to back then apart from the hdd failing on me and the battery.
Asus made this baby to last!
My father has one that while not really used anymore, still works.
Ps. On those games that don't work, every update of B&S past 9.3 doesn't work on this laptop, 9.3 runs fucking great. An old version of VtolVR does work but it doesn't have spatial tracking. Pop one is online only so I can't access old builds.
(1) Aside from some untiy games where it doesn't render one eye due to a URP issue that stops it from rendering in the right eye on old gpus, LINUS IF YOU SEE THIS PLEASE MAKE THE UNITY PEOPLE AWARE OF THIS IN A WAN SHOW OR SOMETHING, B&S, VTOL VR, Population One etc don't work.
(2) If Linus does read this, tell The Fun Pimps to port 7DTD to Unity PC and PCVR, allow people to build their house in PC and then get into VR for exploring and defending
If they don't within a few years I will and I'm working on MGS3 VR so I'm not joking
Oh yeah this laptop handles Unity VR game development like a champ, just let it do light rendering and mass importing of models or textures over night.
Also yes 300 is maybe a lot now but I got it in the peak of the mining craze because I was using a 2gb 260x before I got this one.
If I worked at LMG I'd make a vid of how to turn an old gem like this into a slim water cooled mediaPC that can still game quite well, free video idea for anyone taking the time to read this.
Whoever is your editor is, keep'em!! Anyway the notebook is pretty beast. Would love to have one of these. Great review as usual.
Whoever edited this video, they deserve a raise.
Yaaaay!
Also someone made that "Omg Im high performance" a GIF it's the best thing ever made.
where?!?!?!
I have this notebook for 8 years or something like that and it still runs without any problem. And there were no problems in the past! :D
I have the JW. Picked it up for $800 refurbished, thing was brand spanking new. Not a scratch on it. Runs like a champ. Great purchase.
you get what you paid for a dogshit 765M and 1600X900
TheDorapapi321
Haha, you get a great dedicated 2GB card (765M like you said) an i7 mobile and it's 1920x1080 not 1600x900.
Burlap Sack
Don't explain your purchases to the neckbeard elite. Congrats on the deal btw.
Burlap Sack Wow thats a good price i got a G750JZ for $700 used and it works great . Had it for months now. Very satisfied with it.
TheDorapapi321 you seem to have some issues with this laptop as this isn't the first video where you commented on it as "dogshit". Who took a shit in your cornflakes this morning, dude?
Whoever edited this is a beautiful person. Please keep them on. Let them edit all your videos!
"Who brings a gaming notebook backpacking, anyway?" Whoever it is, this person is fantastic.
D'awww. I think my placement, timing, and aesthetic style combined with a bit of humor and sarcasm is growing on you guys.
Edzel Yago Did you really edit this video?
You sir, are a beautiful person. Keep up the great work!
The Norbenator I sure did! Thanks for the ego boost. =D I think the others are going to start using this style now based on this video (and the other few I've done similarly).
Edzel Yago Stay awesome, you!
I still have my G750JX and I love it. The thing is a beast. Plays games well even with the GTX 770m and it's amazing for all the VMs and Server software I run for school.
I think Linus was referencing Alienware at 1:13 . Anyone else think so?
Lol
***** Yeah...but atleast it's better than Alienware...haha
razer keyboards ftw
Nah...
probably most of gaming laptops in the market
i recently purchased this laptop for work/programming purposes with mild gaming on the side and feel even better about my choice after watching this video. thanks for being so informative.
omg do more stuff like that Linus :D
I love your reviews, keep up the good work
This product is definitely for me.

I understand what you're saying but the hassle of upgrading is half of the hobby for a lot of computer enthusiasts.
Really good review on this gaming laptop. I was in San Diego in the summer of 2013 and purchased an ASUS RoG G750JW. This laptop was pretty close in specs to my model but a bit different.
That's a sexy laptop, even if it's bulky it's beefy.
You know it won't fail you.
Been following you for a while now and gotta say you're becoming a killer at what you do. Very professional, intelligible and concise.
Keep up the good work
The dubstep and 1:20 did it for me xD
Awsome video, learned a lot, i got what i came for and funny editing. Keep up the good work! :D
01:16 the party starts....lol i love it.

someone make a song out of this, or just a 1 hour version. :D
Oh really? What builder did you use?
You really just missed the point of the comparison
lmao you typed all this in without thinking of shipping prices if they can be all bought online whether they have to pay a tax on top of the part if not online, then miss the point of who this is for it clearly isnt for you which is fine but to compare the parts you did with whats in the laptop that is manufactures for maybe 15% the price your paying for with a probably let me guess 25%+ markup to make money off it your comparing an apple to an orange and it doesnt make sense to do so
I don't think you understand that this is a standalone machine that is portable while a desktop is not. And the $400 premium you pay is what Asus can charge for their hard work put into custom manufacturing the parts for this laptop.
I think this laptop is for me because i am a marine engineer and i love gaming so much but thing is im always on the go and traveling all over the world .so this is the perfect choice for someone like me :)
Cant wait to have my hands on this beast . Love ur work linus
JZed in my pants
So thorough. Much Logic. Very wow. *thumbsup.jpg*
Seriously though, awesome video, I've always wanted to do something like what you did but I've never had the opportunity, it's surprising how close the Lappy came to the desktop's numbers.
Woah, 4K video
I love the new editing style, I appreciate all the effort in all the little details, hope to see more videos like this in the future :D
Hehe, and Linus was complaining about what happens when he gives me too much time to edit. (Though that was directed at the high-performance bit).
I pissed myself laughing at the: "OMG look at me i'm high performance" part, great video again Linus and Crew :D
MSI gaming laptops at their finest.
on sb Was thinking more along the lines of Alienware xD
Nope. Must be Alienware....
MistarRag THAT'S WHAT I SAID! :D
CurtisAlex OHH REALLY?! O.O
Bought this about 2 months ago. It hurts your wallet but warms your heart. Being able to bring your comp to friends and game. But not having to play at 10 fps on laptop is nice.
Looks at likes........ "4K"
:3
***** NO HALF LIFE, But Left 4 dead 3 confirmed ^^
SwipZy Half life 3 is confirmed too bruh
***** True that! Haha
I bought the previous model or this laptop, the G75 and have no regrets. It works fantastically, can play every game from 2012 at max textures solidly, and every game from this year at 1080p at medium-low detail and 50+FPS. I mostly use it at home plus occasional LAN parties at friends houses
Great product!
If Asus refreshed their 15" ROG notebook... I would be so happy (:
Asus G56jr is coming out soon.
rog.asus.com/307132014/g-series-gaming-laptops/asus-g56jr-15-inch-gaming-notebook/
Vega M I freaked out when I saw the link, it looks OK but only one fan worries me... Asus ROG has always been my favorite for the cool temps and quiet fans. I'm curious to see if they can still pull that off with just one fan.
*****
The 760m + i5 4200m option should be decent, not sure how it would deal with the i7 4700mq, i think it would have been a better idea if they went with the G46vw design.
Vega M Did some research... its just a rebranded N56JR with a few external changes (paintjob and such). Not really a TRUE Rog laptop in my opinion.
Looks like I'm still going for MSI GS60.
*****
Looks good, find it kinda funny how MSI puts dual fans on their thin laptops but not on the beefier GT series.
just pick this up from the deepest part of storage, install all recent win10 update and this beast still work just like new. wtf this thing is awesome Asus
I love a video with no ads :)
I know I give you shit but really you and Slick are awesome. I have been a fan for quite some time now. I like the way your videos are produced. The meme faces were funny. And I love ASUS.
cm storm cooling notebook was the ad...
yukido asuna
he meant a video before the ACTUAL video yo
Oops actually i meant an ad at the end of the video. I don't really mind the ad at the start but at the end, I don't like it. However, Linus needs to do what he needs to do and since it's free for me to watch, I don't really have any room to complain.
wolfandfox ad is a ad no matter where you slice it, before a video, during video or after a video.
i myself hate the 15-30 second unskipable video ads on most youtube vids but if ya do what linus does im more likely to 1 pay attention to it and 2 not be annoyed by your advert. but idk thats just me
i had a asus G53 for almost 3 years, and you know what i really appreciated it so much when i started going on business trips for 3 days or more, this laptop is so good for gaming on the go, in fact im writing this comment from a hotel room lol
Some people express a lot of hate or disgust on these "hyped overpriced gimmicks", or so they say, but they fail to realize this: gaming notebooks save a lot of money when it comes to overall power consumption (250-- watts vs 650++ watts).. not to mention they take 80+% less desk space
mobile gaming is perfect for jet laggers like me. nice and funny video Linus :)
This is how every video should be.
The new camera(Higher Res?) Looks great at the random scene changes while linus was talking was great.
OMG LOOK AT ME I AM HIGH PERFORMANCE=Alienware

Pavorish
DAMN DUDE
Love your randomness Linus, especially with the "OMG look at me I'm high performance!" I would love to see more of that in future videos.
You got 4K nice. Too bad I don't have a 4K anything. And nothing that can output 4K other than my Xbox One.
This is one of the best laptop reviews done. The desktop comparison was spot on. This is why, I love this channel. Keep up the great work!
Damn Linus did you overclock your comedian skills .
The best video that came from Linus ever! Good editing and good data :)
Take out the SSD and bluray reader..makes it 500 dollars cheaper...reasonable price for that performance given the flexibility you get
agree 100%
I absolutely love the editing!:)
please make a omg, look at me, I'm high performance song. if linus does not want to: luke, please take quotes of linus and patch them together to a song
I´ve been waiting excited for this...
watching 4k on a 1080p display, fooling myself to believe that there's actually a noticeable difference :D
We're not sure but there might be since it unlocks a higher bit-rate on UA-cam.
I actually see a difference even in a 1080p monitor because UA-cam compress the videos a lot.
Great review Linus, Ive been using this laptop for 6 months now and totally loving it!
The omg part made me laugh. Nice video! :D
My mind still boggles at how powerful these laptops are becoming
Company where I work at uses this thing for PowerPoint....
I don't even dare touch this thing at work xD
Videos just get better and better. The Linus media group is one of my favorite channels.
Hey Linus Does it have 120hz screen¿??? . . . . . i heared about replace bluray device for more storage or another gpu or removable device to switch thoose xD
WE DONT NEED PERPETUAL BLUE RAY ( digital era ) :v
Thank you for this great video guys.
onre thing is missing thought:::: Temperature measures. In my opinion , that's an importing detail especially when using 880m and a 47**k, these parts can go crazy in that small box.
Thanks again guys,
alway watching you videos, so keep it coming !!!!!!!!!
*****
1:13 Oooh! Shots fired! Shots fired!
Its simply one of the greatest laptops ASUS ever made.
i agree its built like a tank. i got the jm version with 860m.
I died at 1:15 XD
"OMG LOOK AT ME I'M HIGH PERFORMANCE!!!"
we need a 3 hr version of those amazing 3 seconds!!
boy4everjoy On it
I used to own a lower spec version of this model before (G750JV).
Brian Walker
Im professional in 3d and development and there is difference.
How, exactly? I can see no reason why that would be true, unless you're saying things run better on Windows 8, because they do.
Alexander Antonov so would you recommend installing windows 7
I would do that if that could not cause problems with UEFI bios and etcetc
ive read enough of complaints on issues to decide to dig my wishes and work on 8. Still 7 is better.
HUGE props to the editing guys over at LinusTechTips! You made this video infinitely more enjoyable
It was the seizure inducing colours and text, wasn't it?
can you review the lenovo y510p? The one with the I7 4700mq (whatever it's called) was recently on sale for 930 dollars, i didn't get it because i didn't know how it compared to other laptops, can you review it to see if i missed out?
***** i mean, it has two laptop gpu's, and an i7 4700mq, and only consumes 175 watts of power, so it does seem a bit too good to be true lol
***** Oh, damn, maybe lenovo will set the pavement for this concept of sli-swappable gpu's.
Two gpu's on one laptop is kinda useless...
***** SLI on both laptop and desktop have their advantages and disadvantages
It's $2,200 in US, which is about £1,300.. but it's £2k in the UK! What!
Wow unbelievable, at £1300-£1500 I'd probably get one.
Ben Lee I'm not sure if that's sarcasm or if you're serious, but that is a £500-£700 price gap. It's not nothing.
lol, everything is expensive there.
***** I'll rephrase it for you. If the exchange rate was fair id get one since I'm in the market for a new laptop.
It could possibly be cheaper to order one in America, and then have it shipped to the UK, since the price difference is so big. But I'm not sure how much customs will have you pay to import it.
Great video across the board! this video has set the bar for future videos. Good job Linus and team! also wewt for Crysis 1
oh come on linus, you know the pricing on the desktop was bullshit. a gtx 770 build will only run about 1200$ (excluding windows since you can just transfer it from a old computer) and in total, with monitor, mice, and keyboard will run about 1500-1600$.
Take those parts, find all of them online, and add in each thing he adds, and see.
And the tower, and the power supply, and a hard drive, and a Blu-ray burner/writer...
Thank you for the review. I really appreciated the fact that you took the time to build a comparison desktop.
YES, 4K!
Very thorough. Definitely went above and beyond the call of review duty. Keep up the good work guise!
This is perfect for me and my budget in 2020. I want POWER without sacrificing too much of my wallets blood.
I have this notebook, it is amazing! I have had no problems at all with it. It's great, and though the price is high, its really worth the cost for the performance you get out of it!
Time to test the beast that is the Alienware 18 with.... TWO 880M's....
That thing is so big and heavy and the battery life sucks but I still want it :(
Ugh...I don't understand the reason with 2 gpu's in one laptop (kinda)
This helped me more then the actual ASUS channel, thank you. I will be getting this model for my photography.
Sitting here on my 900x1600 laptop thinking it looks great while others are complaining that 1080p is not enough on their iPhones.
I can relate.... :(
+Seth Winfrey im still running on 1300x765 and i dont have a dedicated gpu, im runnign on a pentium n3285. can barely run CSGO on lowest settings and res
lol, iv got a better laptop now
I also have a better laptop now than I had then.
OMG!!! LINUS NOW UPLOADS VIDEOS IN 4K!!! THIS IS AMAZING ERMAHGERD
People call this pc fat and ugly and prefers the razer blade to those people i say lets set them up as a video game and the razer blade is like all the bosses you fight and then when you are about to beat the game this monster comes out of nowhere and graps you and then puts you into its massive fans and just rips you apart thats kinda what this pc does to the razer blade ( sorry for no kommas or dots i hav a really hard time putting them in)
well the new razer blade might get you somewhere jusy saing
The new raze blade costs more than this and has a worse processor and grapichs so not worth it at all
ok dint know that
i wanst tryng to call him out its just saing that knowing razer blade was prietty shitty thing i had check out the NEW razer blade an i saw a review abbout it and thught it was better
well im not accusing anyone of anything i was just saying that the razerblade is an overpriced piece of shit
The editor is amazing!
Why are your uploads so late? Just curious

I love that you went above and beyond with the comparison to a similar desktop solution for gaming. Keep up the good work!
Omg, one can dream of that beast ._.
StikManJones I have an asus desktop with an Asus radeon r9 270x 4gb graphics gard and I haven't had any problems with it.
StikManJones I have an MSI :P Asus has decent quality, Acer doesn't.
Where do you come from? Asus has a greet reputation when it comes to quality and durability
StikManJones Two reasons why I bought a G750JH (780m 3GB one)
1st of all it's Asus, you can never go wrong with Asus.
Wow what a review. When I compare this review of you with 2021 one, there is huge development.
But....I have 6 LED fans in my PC :(
Thank you for uploading this is UA-cam 4K as well! I can actually watch it since my internet is fast enough and it makes a big difference compared to 1920x1080! Please also upload the NCIXcom vids in YouTub 4k as well!
XD the led part so true
1:16 insta replay! :D
Absolutely loved this. As I work in a fly in fly out roll this for me is an excellent substitute for my desktop and will definitely be buying one when I finish this swing at work
too heavy for backpacking up a mountain? it's just about 5kg ffs, what are your legs made of? jelly
A modern-day, urban dweller? Yes, jelly it is
Alex Z lol i just got back from a military exersize where we walked across a mountain on skis for a week... we carry around 75kg of equipment then theres the sledge with an additional 40kg of stuff which a teammate has to pull for 50 min at the time... so have to pull the sledge around 1-2 times a day. civilian mountain climbing is a joke, 2ez4me
but yeah those jelly legs they have is a joke too so it only makes sense, tho logan looks like a badass on the outside (but hes prolly not)
Watashi wa Toyota Honda desu desu.

Got this one 6-7years ago, still running perfectly.
2:48 NOOICE
It's great to see Asus's gaming laptop department doing even better today. I had one back in 2010 and it ran great.
Hi I'm trying to sell my left kidney to buy this, any takers? ;_;
Le monickous sorry, only looking for right kidneys
+Narutou01 xD
I own a G750JX-QS71-CB. (last gen, same chassis and processor though)
I LOVE my notebook, to say the least, I found going back to my old 14.1" like looking at a postage stamp.
AHH STOP putting VGA connectors on these things............
On a 2100 dollar laptop? If you need it that bad get an adapter. VGA is ugly for the 95% of people who will never use it.
Zap_12100 Couldn't you run a DVI to VGA adapter on the projector, and then an HDMI to DVI on the laptop?
