A good leader prepares, teaches, motivates, inspires, and encourages those team members in their charge to do their jobs well so that they don't have to step in and do them for them. This dynamic leads to increases in overall productivity, strong team spirit and effort as opposed to frustration, apathy and hostility. When a leader does their job well they don't need to micromanage because they trust in their ability to prepare their team members well and that they are each capable individually and as together as a team to get the job done. 💛

Agree. Leaders must be empathetic, compassionate, and understanding, and should be able to connect with each team member on an individual level. That goes way beyond just being in charge of the work that needs to be done.
I wish people would recognize this as leadership in real life. This is how I treat my team, but upward management despise me for caring for those below me. Like it pains them to see others succeed in life.
I love you Simon. You’ve ignited the spark of leadership in my life, and then taught me heaps about how to develop my leadership. May your legacy live long 💙
This is the essential lesson (and hurdle) to discipleship. Also the pattern of mastery: learn, do, teach. Interesting that it is so universally applicable.
I totally agree with Simon as you help advance everyone by showing them what you want done and they respond as a team not individually it makes it way simpler to get the problem solved
This video evoked more emotion than I’m personally comfortable with the transition to being a good worker to being the person who takes care of those in my charge has been mentally one of the toughest battles I’ve been going through since my recent promotion its literally a daily struggle of trying to find the perfect combination of being firm, being understanding , whilst listening and solving issues while still adjusting to letting go of what used to and setting in to what I now have to do
Simon, the way you explain things is so simple and easily understood, by myself, and I’m sure the world. Thank you for sharing all your wisdom and knowledge continuously. You are a true hero.❤
Leadership is a position of service. Are there some sacrifices to be made? Yes. However, I personally feel and believe that the rewards inherent of service outweigh the sacrifices.
Glad to have found this! Suddenly leading two teams, from being solo for a decade. It's a major adaptation, professionally and personally. I do find myself sticking up vs outgroups for those I think of as my people.
EXACTLY! Leadership means to be at service of people we are taking care of. It is said that when humanity reaches a certain level of maturity the most elite people will decide to willingly sacrifice and lead the nations as a sincere service rather than for the sake of power and other selfish desires!!
These leadership transitions can be so tricky. Many times, what made us successful in our former job will be the same things that hold us back in the new role as leader.
Of course, another career path - the one I took - was to dig deeply and broadly into highly useful technologies to become a subject matter expert. Not everyone is cut out to be a supervisor although most of us can be leaders in one way or another.
I’ve always said, as a people manager, my job is to work my way out of a job by developing talent to come up and take my position. We all move on eventually, and my position should be taken by someone I’ve made ready for the role.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but the Army used to have a dual track for enlisted to progress, one for leadership and one for technical merit, since not everyone who was good at their job was also well suited to be a leader, but yet they still deserved seniority / progression as they stayed in expert roles and developed their missions. I wish that was more common so the best kept getting "promoted" without hitting Peter principle levels of incompetence in leadership.
The result of promoting your best employee to the mananement position, you will lose your talents. Peter Senge mentioned about the subject on his The Fifth Dicipline book. So this is so true: "Having capacity to becoming a leader shouldn't mean everbody wants to be a leader."
Some leaders don’t care about those they are in charge of by bullying, avoiding, or not acknowledging them, discrediting them.. even in front of others who those won’t speak against the leader
Some people do not want to be promoted and are happy int their current position already. I work in an organization where the only way to be promoted is if you do a job interview for a higher position.
It saddens me to say that nearly all senior managers have no interest in the leadership you’re describing. In developing people under me, I was cut twice in RIFs.
A true leader loves his people and his land, that means the leader will not lead his people to war but towards peace, the leader will not divide . Because the leader is not alone she/he might even have to fight of the rotten apples near her/him if the people loves their leader they want the same no war no fight but a solution , and teach the rotten apples what love really is.
If you're good at your job, you don't always get promoted because people promote those they are fond of or related to first. I lost getting a job at 18-19 yrs old. Not because I wasn't good at testing for the job. The boss told me I would fit in great and was a precise, fast key puncher (type of typist) but he wasn't hiring me because his niece needed a job. Go figure that out.

Thanks for reading and any response in advance!
Excellent message! But, we live in a society that all levels of people (educated and uneducated) discriminate everywhere. So, how do you deal with this sick issue?
