Awesome boat work! She looks great, you mentioned cracks in the paint, I had that on my boat, the only way to find out what was causing them was to remove the paint and find out. It turned out the gel coat was cracked underneath. It’s not that serious the boat won’t sink. But the paint will always crack. The problem is not going to go away until it’s fixed. The way I did it was to dig out each crack with a v shaped chisel. Then apply new gelcoat to fill the crack and sand. My gelcoat was badly faded on one side so I painted the hull with 4 layers of 2 pack epoxy gel protect and then 4 layers of 2 pack International Perfection Pro paint. The end result looked gorgeous but it was a big job.
Hey Lauren, it was such a pleasure meeting you and your parents in Annapolis! Your mix of positivity with a sprinkle of challenge and a huge dose of determination are so fun to watch. Thank you for taking the time to make quality entertainment for us!!!
Congrats on the splash and work accomplished! Please treat Raf Sasch and yourself to a bite and some cold ones, or do as you wish! Cheers and all the best, 🍻🤗
Lauren, to help ensure that you do not have insect issues, remove all the paper wrapping from the tin provisions and mark them with a marker. Eggs are laid between the wrapping and the tin when in storage either at the store or at the warehouse.
My local ACE taught me a rental trick:.Rent anything before closing on Saturday. And since they close Sundays, your "one day" rental isn't due back until closing Monday. You get two days for the price of one! That's a secret, don't tell anyone. 😊
HI Lauren, it is so nice to know you are back in your domain/comfort zone after all the work you put in on your boat. Nice job on the accomplishments, and your boat looks nice. I know there is alot of upkeep and maintainance on boats especially in such a harsh environment, just glad you didn't over stress lol. Relax now and enjoy your much deserved tranquility ! See you in your next video, and stay safe !
Hi Lauren, I just found your website and have only watched a couple of your videos. I have never been on a sailboat and I love watching you adventurous young ladies not only sailing but doing all the work that a boat requires. I will be watching all your videos over time. Ok be very careful and take good care. Ciao geo
Lauren, been watching your videos and adventures for about 1 and 1/2 years now. Your content is incredible! Thank you......oh, and the white stripe is killer!
The sticky notes are back! they are such a good way of staying motivated to do the works. And Soul is looking absolutely stunning with that new paint job! Overall great boat work video, love seeing how happy you look by getting the job done and how strong you are by doing all of that on the scorching heat! And I love that Soul already has her Christmas decorations up 💙
Another great video Lauren and some tough jobs behind you now. Owning a boat seems to ensure you will put in the sweat equity but also points to another great season ahead. You always kill it Captain Lauren!
Holy cow you are absolutely amazing the boats looking great and it floats and there are dead roaches everywhere. I am completely exhausted from watching you so now I’m going to go take a nap . Great episode and I know that Mako is happy to get back to his home. ☮️ out and take a break.
Sister, your work ethic is beyond challenge. Mom and dad did a hec of a job raising u. Really enjoyed the video and I am looking forward to another year of videos. Stay safe, stay awesome and catch ya next time….
For stuck hoses, use a heat gun both for removing and reinstalling. Then the hose comes right off, and the chances of damaging the hose are way less. I am about to start that very project, but I am going to replace my bronze thru hulls with Truedesign.
Hey Lauren, Saw your comments about painting the Blue on your Hull...I used to be a transporter for Beneteau and all the boats coming out of the factory were Gelcoated, which can be rejuvenated with a heavy duty rubbing compound followed by waxing....way less expensive than Painting.
Amazing person, i love the way that yo resolve all the renovation that you have to effort on your boat. I respect a lot the way that your search to live, since one year me to i would like to buy my own second hand boat, and live most part of the year on. I would like to ask you how much complicated it's run a 50 feet sailing boat in solo? Seams that you it's like running a bicycle. As you many other decide to live in a sailing boat that give to me a lot of trust that this is the way that i want to live my next 10 years. Thank you! Enjoy your life.
Who cat sat Mako while you were in Greece? You know Mako is 50% of this channel ❤. Cats & sailing, add a beautiful charismatic young lady who works hard and is smart !!!! Much love and prayers ❤ .
🌴🌴🌴 Your boat and you are looking great! I’m glad that things are going ok with you and Mako(of course). Thank you for making videos of your journeys. I so enjoy watching all of your videos. Blessings from Paso Robles California, Carlos
Impressive, where do you get the seemingly never ending energy, enthusiasm, amazing knowledge and skill in so many different areas to accomplish so many difficult jobs? I am exhausted just watching the video. Best Wishes.
Well done Lauren; the hull looked really smart after all that hard work. Hope that’s the end of your cockroach problem !! It was great to see and hear you sounding so much better, day 6 I think it was. Onwards and upwards with your various projects! 👏🤞
Hi Lauren, OMG I am so pleased you went for Trudesign. I was watching this video and when you mentioned that you were replacing your through hulls I was hoping you were replacing your existing fittings with Trudesign. Being composite nylon there is no electrolysis or corrosion therefore, no electrical bonding is required. Minimal maintenance just turn the ball valve handles at least once a year. If you have a diverter valve on your black waste outlet hose (tank or sea discharge) the core will need to be replaced once a year / 2 years and that is it! Guess you are aware of all of this. Love, love Trudesign and I'm sure you will too, absolute peace of mind once installed.
My father was an avid sailor in the last boat that he had he had done the bhule with a special paint I believe it's a copper paint and it's a 10-year paint I do believe it keeps the Barnacles away
@laurenlanders 🙂my two huskies are also 24 hours a day with me - now i renovate a old stealboat suitable for the dogs - only with my horses is it a great problem 🤣 greetings from the 🇦🇹austrian Mountains
Can I make a suggestion. When removing through hull fittings, take the hose off then go out side and cut the out side flange away and push inside. Always found that easier. Don’t have to undo the internal bits.
So nice to see someone else doing it after having to do it all myself for many years..!!😂😜 Well done anyway. It's good to see that girls can do it too, when they want/have to.. (Watching from New Zealand - Home of the AMERICAS Cup..!!)
Such a charming and talented young woman. I love your channel!😎 I got tired just looking at your post it notes and darling girl I had to take a nap after watching you work your little caboose off! 🤣Job well done from the old dude in land locked Dallas. 🤠 Keep sharing.
You have a very beautiful boat and you put me to shame on your work ethic plus you are so confident, takes me many more days to get that much done on mine.
What. A. Total. Stud!!! I'm not even gonna cheapen that with a "stud-ette"... You are an absolute studly boat yard maven. A 5200 doyen!! Way to get it done!
Yep am 2 days late. Been enjoying your adventures for awhile yeah glad to see you are back. You sure do Handel that 51 beneteau very well for a single sailer. Iam looking forward to day. Am 71 been sailing all my life got my home for sell. So yep hopefully soon going out on a test sail from flash down to Bahamas first before I make a plunge. I met Chrris at chasing Latitudes who helps people make sure It's not a good feeling to spend 80 , 90 grand just to find put its not fir you It does happen. Anyway really to see you back at it.
The boat behind Lauren at 30:36 looked like a Niad 44. I wonder if that's RAN 2. RAN sailing sold it in the ABC islands a few hundred miles west of Granada. I'm sure it has a new name now and if it is, that would be another way of showing just how small the cruising community really is.
Great video, I like how you show all the not fun parts of owning a boat. You are amazing and your get it done attitude is inspiring. Looking forward to a great year in 2025!
Kind of looked like you put the teflon on counter-clockwise, you should put the teflon on the same way it tightens. Righty-tighty = clockwise, wrap clockwise. This tightens the teflon as you tighten the fitting, making it a reliable seal. Just a tip for the future. Hopefully you never see any issues with it or that I'm blind!
Hi Lauren How do you like and feel about these composite thru hulls? 😮 I’ve heard mixed reviews and old salt sailors that refuse to use them (because they are different, not because they are bad) Anyway, awesome job, awesome channel and you are something else!! 😇👍🏻
One question please: how is that you know so much about so many things and how to do them? It seems that with most tasks that you undertake on the boat you are already familiar with how to do them. Yet you have only owned this one boat, and that for only a few years. Your prior experience does not suggest to me that you needed to do a lot of major systems maintenance and upgrades like the ones you have been doing on Sol de Mar. For instance, the thru hulls. Not something that needs doing very often. Regardless, I am just so impressed with how you tackle everything head on, and smile all the way thru it, even the bad parts. A formidable lady.
How often do you replace your through holes? Is replacing them periodically just regular maintenance? Or do you replace them when they've gone bad? FYI treat yourself by an electric flush toilet.
How surprised were you when Raff proposed to Sacha at the young cruisers awards?? I laughed out loud when you and Aiana were snapping pics front and center!
LAUREN u r looking good as usual .. done a fantastic paint job on your boat, i always refer to a boat as a lady ( she is beautiful), u r very mechanical inclined lady, u were born with that, love the nikies and your personality, i think you have a beautiful soul
I saw the episode where you sanded your hull. Do you paint it or do you have the yard do it? Do you use that copper coat brand? It's really gnarly how sea life can practically eat holes in your hull. How often does your boat require a bottom sanding and recoat?
Screwing up (previous) sticky notes doesn’t make the jobs go away Lauren, 99.99% of the time!, nice try. 😁Washing the boat in the rain, two birds with one stone 😁. Wow you did some work this week, she looks a masterpiece… should be happy getting some crappy jobs done and done well.

A little yard hack, get two 5gal. Buckets and some scrap wood. Take an old pair of tennis shoes and with washers on the inside screw them to the bottoms of the buckets with the wood inside to hold them. You shuffle along and not have to keep moving the Buckets. And you can leave them behind and keep your shoe's with the screws in them for the next time you need a little boost. And you have crampons should you find yourself in Antarctica chasing penguins. A couple of things you can do to help prevent roaches and other critters from stowing away is removing all labels from anything you buy on the islands. Eggs are usually under them. And when dockside sticky roach traps are great. Before you remove the paper cut a hole in the trap that fits your line and then stick it to itself once you have it in place. Its amazing what you'll find stuck on them when you are ready to cast off. Great job on the repairs!. Splash Time!

Hi Lauren
How do you like and feel about these composite thru hulls? 😮
I’ve heard mixed reviews and old salt sailors that refuse to use them (because they are different, not because they are bad)
Anyway, awesome job, awesome channel and you are something else!! 😇👍🏻
When it comes to painting the boat will a airless paint sprayer work or the paint needs to be applied by brush and roller?
You poor sick 🐰, I wish I was there to help you!
You’re a stud young lady!
I love watching your videos! Thank you 🎅🏽❤️
the fumes from that marine paint are hard on the lungs!, esp the two-pot epoxy stuff..
Thanks! You rock

How much space was there between the ball and the mushroom tip?

I really like the Blue Post Its for a To Do List.
That lends for encouraging progress because as a project is completed a Post It goes away, reducing the number shows progress which helps to keep spirits elevated and motivated.
That's a great idea!
You look sensational in this beige/white Top at 12:30 !
I'm just curious but after painting the bottom hull what do you do about the points where the support stands contact the bottom?
Why not use anti fouling? That nice shine looks like Polly thane. 👍
You are so amazing!
There is a trades trick where you screw a smaller hole saw in the middle of the big one as a guide but be warned if you are drilling metal or a hard substance you will need a vice and large polly grips to get it out again.
Question: What is the typical cost of a day in a yard like that where you're at?
I'm curious at what point did you paint the hull where the jack stands were?
Did they let you paint antifoul where the blocking was before you splashed?
Whomever wraps this girl up as her first mate will be a lucky man. Perhaps you are looking for a 6 foot, blonde haired, blue eyed, fire fighter and boat mechanic? 😊
How do you paint underneath the braces, will they move pretty easily?
A little yard hack, get two 5gal. Buckets and some scrap wood. Take an old pair of tennis shoes and with washers on the inside screw them to the bottoms of the buckets with the wood inside to hold them. You shuffle along and not have to keep moving the Buckets. And you can leave them behind and keep your shoe's with the screws in them for the next time you need a little boost. And you have crampons should you find yourself in Antarctica chasing penguins. Good choice on the through hulls. You probably won't have to worry about them again. Just the usual checking for leaks. Splash Time!
you are the best, i love you
