    I have watched a few of these videos from Lowbrow and as an Englishman it really warms my heart to see you guys not giving up on our 'old nails'...... remember that these bikes were making records before most of us were born, as was old Burt on one of yours !

    For someone who grew up with Classic British Motorcycles as wallpaper to my youth - this is just a fantastic documentary film ... keep up the Brit Bike Passion folks! P.S Nice to see the Aussie mechanic wrenching on the Bikes with Kyle and Tyler ... gotta have some Downunder in there somewhere!

    Great video thanks for sharing, surprised some credits were not given to the mechanics like Herb etc?
    in my experience with British bikes one good mechanic is worth about 100 good riders.

      ? in 40:56 Andy talks extensively about Herb Becker. and at the end in the credits 01:05:27 we list everyone on the crew including herb. The other three bikes featured, all built by the riders/racers. We have crew that help out but none are master mechanics like Herb.

    Nothing can prepare you for what Bonneville offers until you get there. The weather, the salt, the lack of power from the altitude, all have to be experienced. There just isn't anything you can do except come here and figure it out when you arrive. What a way to spend time though if you are a motorhead!!!!

    When I first got my 47 BSA C10 my plan was to save it and get it back on the road. But when I started to look for parts and found your website I just new that it wanted to be a bike with a Bonneville look and feel to the build. So now it liquid cooled, stretched and will have disk wheels and a Lowbrow stickers and parts on it.

    Best movie about Bonneville I've ever seen! The camera work and sound are both excellent and absolutely professional. The story unfolds in an interesting and engaging way! And the editor wasn't afraid to include the mechanical details that might bore some people (but they probably shouldn't be watching it anyway). I do have to tell you, I suspected the tension or the sprung pin on the shifter quadrant right from the start! Anyway, I have some questions regarding Speed Week. The crowd at the rider's meeting appears to be at least twice as large as at the AMA event in late August (we go there every year), but the motorcycling contingent seems to be rather small. So throughout the rest of the video, where are all those other people and where are the racing cars that I assume they are associated with? Do they stick the motorcycles way off somewhere on their own? We currently race (off and on since '05) at the motorcycle event at the end of August, but I've always wondered what Speed Week was like. Do you get your runs in a timely fashion, or do you wait in line for hours? How many tracks are there? We are currently running a partially streamlined 1942 Harley model U big twin flathead. The engine is 1360cc. Last year we did one way of 127mph on pump gas, and this year we did 132mph on sporadic nitrous (average of 129 mph). We also hold records for our Harley 45 flathead on gas (116) and blown (118(?), but one way was 120 mph). Great movie!

    I wonder if straight cut gears would help eith the trans issue? It sounds like theres to much pressure and the gears are spreading apart.. i know in the diesel world we will use strsight cut gears because for instance the timing gear will push away from the rest of the gears and the cummins will slip timing so straight cut gears give eack gear more teeth to bite on so the load spreads better...

      Adam, it is a 32mm Ceriani front end. There are 34mm ones that are more common. Both sizes are found on many vintage dirt bikes and road racers. You can find various parts for them available still, fork seals, reproduction (or sometimes new old stock) hardware etc. Hope that helps! - Tyler

    My 1988 GSXR 750 easily took me to 186 MPH and I got scared and let off so my conclusion is that this event is a joke because your 750 would get smoked in 2nd gear friend. Honda had a 125 that beat your speed. The bike is pretty but useless and I thought you would have learned something from that other time with the 650 when all your body weight was tired from the worthless position. To build a bike just for this event that cannot be ridden anywhere else and then to have them say you hold the record when I clearly smoked your record hundreds of times on every bike I've ever owned, well I think the whiskey and friendships gained must be what it's all about because the records are pure bullshit. Still thanks for recording it for us to watch and nice going, glad they gave you a trophy for your troubles, just keep it on the salt so you don't get your feelers hurt on the asphalt.

    I've maintained 130mph for 25 miles here in central Tx on my stock 78GS1000 so I don't understand how these twin cylinder engine can't do 130 on the salt with 10k worth of race parts and race frames.

    • @lowbrowcustoms
      @lowbrowcustoms  5 років тому +9

      Bruce, your bike would be in the Production 1000cc class at Bonneville, the record is 200.920 mph. Doing 130mph on an overhead cam GS1000 on pavement at low altitude sounds really fun, but it is quite different than racing at high altitude, on salt and on bikes decades older than yours. I might also mention that our friend and team member Alp Sungertekin has a record over 177mph on a 1950 Triumph 650cc that he built. Lastly, speaking for myself, I built my bike in my home garage, it cost time and materials like steel tubing and sheets of aluminum. I also built my engine in my garage by myself, tuned it, and raced it. It is not throwing $10k at something, it is spending time, energy, thought and personal drive to take old machines that were slow and make them fast. It doesn't need to be expensive to be fast. - Tyler

    • @justdad53
      @justdad53 5 років тому +4

      lowbrowcustoms - Tyler you gave a very polite response to Bruce. The GS was a fine machine in it's day and probably could run 135 mph with a professional rider at sea level and might get into the high 11s in the quarter mile again with a very good rider. We both know a stock GS1000 from 1978 would have trouble getting 125 mph at Bonneville. We both know your speed was accurately measured, done with 15% less traction than concrete, and run where the density of altitude is between 5000-6500 feet above sea level. Thank you for your kind response.

    • @gregorytimmons4777
      @gregorytimmons4777 5 років тому

      Yeah, it's quite a challenge on the salt. Way less traction and higher altitude. In my one trip there I could not believe how few cars were running carburation. Mostly F.I. of one sort or another
