Props to whomever was running alongside Big Blue in the mud at 46:00 keeping the winch line out of the tire while he smashed through the mud hole. Strong effort, nice work!!
Nate, we don't have anything like the views and trails you all have in WA here in Texas...at least her in the Houston area (super jealous). My wife is from WA (Kirkland just outside of Seattle) and she just went back their with her mom for the first time in over a decade for her, over two decades for her mom. I went up there with her back in 2001 in July, and driving to Snoqualmie Falls, and to Mt Rainer with clear sky's, snow still in the higher mts, I asker her, "how in the hell did you leave this for TX?". She responded back, it is not like this but for about 6-8 weeks out of the year. She said normally it's overcast and drizzling rain all the time. My kids and I love watching these videos and look forward to making our way that direction eventually with our Jeep Gladiator Mojave to run the back country trails there in WA or in BC where Shaun from The Story Till Now and the Epic Adventure boys run around. Until now, we're locked into the massive state of TX where the closest thing we have to that is the hill country around the Austin area (about 3-1/2 hrs from us in the Houston area). Any who, great video and we're looking forward to the next one! Just bought an M1102 military trailer that I'm thinking of converting into an overlanding trailer. If that comes to fruition, and I make videos on the build, I'll definitely let you know. Watched all of the harbor freight trailer build vids.
It’s always crazy to easily drive through an area that, in different weather/trail conditions, was a war zone of recovery and chainsawing. Much appreciated to you guys for helping clear the route this year, we followed about a month later and cruised right through many of those areas!!
Love to see the Squarebody! I'm building ours with David's rig as a basic template. Ours will be a little more overland focused though. Another great episode!
Hey, dirt lifestyle, great video. Just stumbled upon it. I was that guy on the ktm 790 stuck in that mud with you guys that afternoon. Awesome watching that big rig get through that mud. You should have hung out and watched me struggle through there on my bike. That, "after fire mud" is the absolute worse stuff ever. cheers.
This was one of this best videos of this genre I’ve seen. Awesome scenery and cinematography and really captured the challenges of a trip like this not just focusing single obstacles. The vehicles look great and it’s pretty clear there’s lots of experience in th group Watching this from Australia.
Absolutely a trip that you'll never forget, I wish I were about 30 yrs. younger I would love to have done this with you guys! Beautiful mountains, great friends, Gods country most definitely! I loved every minute of it, CONGRATULATIONS FELLAS! 😃
Thanks for clearing some trail guys. Did Packwood to Chelan with my M1101 on the back last weekend of June with some friends. Was excellent! Crazy what a few weeks will do. Much dryer though still muddy in the shade and I hade to winch my heavy rig in the same spot David did just going the other way. For anyone that thinks they can't do this I've a 2010 silverado 3500hd 4x4 reg cab with a utility box on it. Looks like a AAA truck because it once was. Stock height, boorish no terrain tires and nothing but the govlock and an Apex winch to get me and my M1101 trailer where I'm going.
Epic. It was fun navigating y’all ruts that were still there August8. I picked that trail by chance and took the same pic of Rimrock Lake. This video was next level!
dude, I had never heard of BDR before, but now I am SO excited to check it out. the New England trail basically goes right through my entire family's backyards. awesome video. thanks, Nate!
That suburban is awesome. This was such a great trip. I’ve been through Washington a few times and it’s a beautiful state. Why do so many people run those Patagonia’s though? I’ve ran them and thought they were terrible and they did not look great here especially half worn on the JK.
Just found this channel and I’m glad I did! I’m building a 97 XJ as an overland/medium level wheeler. I can’t wait until it’s ready to get out and explore!
@@2S1L3NT yessir! Except I can’t figure out what lift I want to go with 😂 a 4.5inch long arm is starting to really rack up the price and the work required to make everything work properly. A yoke slip eliminator isn’t too pricey but god damn, it doesn’t look easy to install. Especially when I was hoping I could do some quick mods to get it back on the road. I’m thinking I might just run it stock for a minute and use it as a daily while buying parts and waiting until I have everything ready. It just seems like for every big modification, there’s a bunch of supporting mods that are necessary to make it all work right.
@@nastyy_mk4 yeah I was on the fence too, but ended up biting the bullet - buy once cry once... I thought. Got a 6.5" Iron Rock Offroad rock link long arm kit. Though I feel I may try to lower it down a bit for better COG. Maybe an inch. The SYE looked daunting, but it really wasn't all that bad. If you can install the lift (which was pretty easy) you can definitely do the SYE. I luckily have 4 other vehicles to drive so I didn't need it as a daily. If it was I'd do what you're thinking and get all the parts first. Then throw pieces on each weekend. I also went with an OX locker in rear, Eaton Trutrac in front and 4.88 Nitro gears with Patagonia MT 35's, but definitely have room for 37's since I trimmed the fenders before even adding the 35s (had 33s before doing the gears). It seems pretty capable. I live 2.5 hrs from Moab Utah, so that's what I was building it for. I'll have it out there by this coming spring. Hopefully everything holds up on it! Good luck on yours. And if you want to run 35's do the 4.5" and trim the fender wells. Probably the best route to take with these. Should be able to do anything mine will be able to with that setup. *oh and remember, you do have to buy a new axle after installing the SYE. You can find and use another front axle from an XJ, or take your front one off and use it to drive your rear axle temporarily if need be, but that should just be temporary. And yes you're absolutely right. Once you start going to down this road is feels like there's a hundred things that need to be replaced or upgraded... I'm swapping out to the WJ brake calipers and rotors next. Never seems to end. J,ust E,ats E,very P,enny!
@@2S1L3NT I honestly might buy a beater car for the time being, or just use the wife’s car for a few weeks. I plan on going all out pretty much. I also found a YSE combo from Rusty’s which comes with the shaft too. I keep telling myself I want it to be done as quick as possible but I have to keep reminding myself it’s going to take money so it’ll end up being a few months until I’m happy with it. So far I’m looking at 4.5 long arm, heavy duty steering kit, and the YSE. Most likely I’ll end up going with the procomp steel wheels and some milestar patagonia tires. After I get those main things done, that’s when I’ll start looking at bumpers, winch, lights, and possibly a roof rack. I’m debating if I want a rooftop tent or not but that’s definitely not a necessity. I’m also going to put a Ford 8.8 in with an ARB air locker. I’ll most likely keep the Dana 30 up front but with chromoly axles and another ARB air locker. And probably an ARB on board air compressor to complete it. I’m relatively new to the XJ world but it seems like the list of parts I want is never ending.
@@nastyy_mk4 I thought about the roof tent thing too, but wanted to keep any weight I add to it as low as possible with it being an off roader. Thankfully I'm a decent welder and have built all my exterior armor pieces aside from the sliders and rear bumper (smithy XRC with tire carrier-it's a beast!). I was on the fence about the lift, but can't remember what finally swung my decision. I don't regret going with Iron Rock. They were great to deal with when I called with a couple questions too.

We went across it 4 years ago, haven't really gone back, other more fun less death like places to explore around here haha, thanks again!
Lol I totally get it man. There are plenty of great places that aren't dangerous for no reason 🤣. I wish someone would fix beehive before someone get hurt.
@@DirtLifestyle perhaps video of you going back and fixing it.
@@iffykidmn8170 Agreed.
@@DirtLifestyle You've shown on your videos that your the type of guy to take care of the trails for the future, sounds like a job for you maybe.
I've seen you on a lot of other people's videos ,but this is the first time I've seen your channel. I really enjoyed it , and I'll be watching more
Absolutely 100% no doubt the best offroad film I've seen on UA-cam. This trip looked Absolutely amazing! I couldn't even imagine what it was like to partake in. Trips like this is what I would love to be able to do more. Thank you so much for creating this channel and allowing us to vicariously take this trip with you.
Props to whomever was running alongside Big Blue in the mud at 46:00 keeping the winch line out of the tire while he smashed through the mud hole. Strong effort, nice work!!
I love that you did this in one video. What an epic trip!🍻
I wanted it to be one video from the beginning. I prefer long form video like this even if UA-cam doesn't like them lol.
Thank you for picking up any and all trash you see and also for saying so on this video. I do the same whenever I go bush
Nate thanks for the knowledge you share. Like not turning on lockers on driving on soft snow etc, things I note.
Good video
I am so glad I clicked on this video! That intro just hooked me instantly. The editing, cinematography, music, everything was top notch.
Love to see the Squarebody! I'm building ours with David's rig as a basic template.
Ours will be a little more overland focused though.
Another great episode!
Do you know what the specs are on the Suburban?
@@xmo552 not exactly, but the owner of Offroad Design owns it. It's well documented on his website.

Oh that's why it seemed familiar. Thanks.
It's my truck. Full build is here: ua-cam.com/users/WillometMotorFab
@@CatRacer1A2A Lots of detail on my channel (it's my truck): ua-cam.com/users/WillometMotorFab
The vehicles look great and it’s pretty clear there’s lots of experience in th group
Watching this from Australia.
Absolutely a trip that you'll never forget, I wish I were about 30 yrs. younger I would love to have done this with you guys! Beautiful mountains, great friends, Gods country most definitely! I loved every minute of it, CONGRATULATIONS FELLAS! 😃
Thank you for clearing my back country...as a resident of wa I can't wait to get there...
Hey Nate! You're making some killer content! So good in fact that im up at 5am (Queensland Australia 🇦🇺) to watch it 🤙🏻
Thanks... but get to bed man lol. Sleep is important 🤣
@@DirtLifestyle haha nah 5am is a sleep in I'm up at 330 for work most days (mining electrician)
@@andrewwheeldon4494 thanks for doing what you do !
Nate!!! That was EPIC man! High five to you and the guys with you.
Thanks!
I love that squarebody.
XJs FTW!
Great video, didn't feel 50 min long. Great job 👊
Thanks brother 👊. I'm suprised you watched it considering we all just got home lol.
I just love this adventure and this video. Thank you
Looks like quite an adventure! I love that suburban!
It's a personal fave.
never watched an hour long video. EVER !!! till now. thank you. had me puckered up on multiple occasions. great fun, great friends. THAT WAS FUN !!!!
If you complete a 600 mile trail, you’re a legend
I know Jason!! I copied how he did his mustang clutch and brake petals!! He’s awesome! Go Jason go Jason go Jason!!!
Completed this on my bike earlier last month. Thanks much to you guys for putting in so much work! Such a beautiful journey, and a very good representation of that journey put to video.
How about this journey in SxS. Might be a bit easier and colder. What a blast!
Diesel powered 80's burban not alot of those around badass fur sure! Big money units.
The diesel square community is a small one; fewer still offroad.
It's awesome seeing your truck put through it's paces out on the trails. Knowing all the work you put into it is paying off. Anything you're going to change/improve after using it so much?
The algorithm brought me here for some reason. And even though this isn't the usual content I watch, I enjoyed all 50 minutes of it.
I havent had a video inspire me to explore my back yard as much as this in so long. Thank you. You reminded me just how much fun you can have exploring in just my 4wd
Love it guys. Been lookin for channels like this.
Bethal Ridge is a great trail, wonderful views and not very time consuming. Try the Devide Ridge trail across the valley, it is a more technical and just as good of views, it is really good in fall after a rain, the trees are starting to turn and the temperature is cooler.
I grew up on a lot of these roads in the 80s and 90s. Many of them in 2x4 trucks or cars and a highlife jack. Good memories! Super glad you guys got to enjoy them.
This is it, propably the best video of this kind that i have ever watched! And im 8:28 min into the vid, great job hats off! Cant wait for more vids like this!
Wow... What a video... Excellent editing, amazing shots, so informative - hit me up when you want to do Baja!
I live in beautiful Washington state, Working on a 2006 Xterra off road right now for overlanding off road adventure, just did overall maintenance, now working on suspension modifications. Excited to get back off roading after selling the Tacoma TDR (over 400,000 miles on it) a few years ago. Thanks for all your work clearing a beautiful off-road route!
Surprised to see the Suburban because of the long wheel base.... I have a 85' Blazer High country (Quad shocks up front and 30 gallon gas tank from factory) added 3.73 lockers front and rear. Lots more room in a Suburban.
Surprisingly, the suburban's wheelbase and the toyota aren't that far off from each other - 130 vs 128.
Thanks!
I finally sat down to watch this video and I was not disapointed. I enjoy the company you keep and the adventures you have.
Clever name for a route you essentially have to go re-discover and rebuild every spring.
Love the square body burb, more of that :)

One of the best Videos i've watched on YT ever👍😍. Just Awesome. Hope i can do something like that in America too one Day, but yeah first i have to get my Offroader from Germany to USA or Canada.
Dudes, thanks so much for clearing out the jungle. That's a nasty knot of trees and we appreciate you spending all that time getting through it
Wow, thank you so much for all of your hard work clearing these trails. We weren't able to do the jungle in the past due to blow downs. Real heros here!
Thank you for cutting all those trees! WOW !! Thanks for opening it up for us Washington backroad drivers,
I agree Nate, section 1 and 5 are the least scenic and challenging. They still beat Seattle traffic...
Freaking awesome. The burb was a snow plow. You all earned every minute of fun.
I prefer the term "snow tractor." 👍
this is possibly the best scenery, postcard perfect location, probably the best I've seen you visit yet. too bad camper couldn't come on the hike. makes me want to come to America and see all the glorious nature you have. you are blessed.

I've just had it long enough that it has become cool again!

Get yourself a Grandberg 12 volt chain sharpener. They're easy to use and sharpen a 20" bar chain in about 2 minutes. Used one right after Mt. St. Helens. where the ash really dulls the chain.
EPIC!!!!.. Verry nice trip great job fixing the trail!!!
AWESOME, i live in this area of northern WA myself by chelan. nice to see you were by
WOWOWOWOW. You guys cleared the trail for all us BIKERS!!!! Big thank you
