I do have 3 of the floating ones. I put them in a bowl and I bought stones from the dollar store to put on the bottom of the bowl to keep it from floating around. Because there are stones in it the water is shallow and the bees like them too. I do not use the sprayer one, I use the other sprayer one where the spray is smaller. And, when I water the garden they will get some fresh water in the bowl. I only have to clean it out once during the summer and then at the end of the season. I am in zone 3/4 so they are only out from May to about October. One of the ones I have has been out for two summers now and the other two are from last year and they are all 3 still good to go. I love them, but I do want to get a couple that have the long cord so I can make some with pretty ornaments in the bowl and the solar can be separate. Love your videos! Hugs from Alberta, Canada.

I saw this three weeks too late! I bought the floater kind first, but expecting the other tomorrow and going to set it up in the covered bucket like you did for the hummers. Am also planting in tubs and composting in place. You have been my mentor!
I agree with you. I had the floating kind of solar panels last year. They only lasted one season. Earlier this year, I got the corded ones you get from ebay. Love them so far. I don't use the attachments either because then all water spills out like you said.
I bought the one without the separate solar panel years ago and realized all the water was being pushed out of the bird bath. Looking for the other kind now. Thanks Robbie 🤗
Thanks for sharing, I saw that at a store once, had to tell them their birdbath was dry, 😆 I put a link to check out the type you may be looking for, take care!
One of my fountains died when I forgot to water it one day. I now only buy those which stop working when the water is low. They are more expensive but worth it. In fact, I put the sprinkler on when I don't mind topping it up.
I had the same issue with my floating fountain. Hard water deposits ruin the solar panels. It lasted about a year. I think the pump is fried too, was submerged in a shallow bowl that went dry on me too quickly. I will buy the other type and reconfigure. All fun, easy, inexpensive fountain projects. The creative possibilities are endless. All because of you, Robbie. One day I’ll send you some pics. Thank you!
Absolutely love my floating solar fountain. It is basically set and forget. Clean it as recommended in the instructions, and you shall not have any of the problems described here. My application is strictly for my bird bath however, and I typically don't sit outside in the rain...
Another great video! I bought 4 of the disc solar floating style last year!! This year I’m looking for the pump style !! Thanks Robbie for all your great knowledge! ♥️
I just got a birdbath with a built in solar fountain. I'm so excited to use it but we had flash flooding today and it's going to rain for the next two days. ARGH. Come on, sunshine. LOL I love all your fountains.
Robbie, I wish I could send you a picture... I turned out my compost in place buckets that I bury in my raised beds with holes on the sides... I didn’t count them but I have a picture and a video... no kidding there has to be 50 worms just on the bottom of the bucket!! Thanks so much for your “crazy” ideas that really work!! Thanks for all your helpful information! I keep remembering what you said in another video--'if you build it, they will come.' We have been transforming our yard into a floral paradise, and we have a birdbath, a resin cascade fountain, and started out with one bird feeder. In the past year, the various songbirds have grown, and have started squabbling rights over the oak trees in the front yard.😂 Then it got to where they were hovering around, waiting to take turns at the feeder. So, about a month ago, I put out a second feeder. Yesterday, I watched three male cardinals get into a squabbling match over the two feeders, and eventually two chased the one off. I'm not sure where to go from here--put out more feeders? My lone birdbath has already become the local recreational pool--we get every songbird in there, including crows and the occasional red-shouldered hawk. Now we have a nest of Carolina Wrens in a potted palm next to the front door. It has all been very entertaining, and my fiance is enthralled, since he grew up in a subdivision with no connection to nature.😂
I have old an satellite dish that I took out of my backyard last summer. I have wanted to up cycle the dish but was unsure how. Now I have ideas flowing!!! Thank you for sharing❤️❤️❤️
I bought one too, hehe is what I did .. I put tape over some of the solar, i was tired of it emptying my birdbath being empty. That worked really good. You might need to figure out how much table you want on it. I wont buy that type anymore.
Feeding hummingbirds from your hand!!!! OMG I'd be in my glory. Sweet little pup face 🐶 ♥ ☺ I can't wait to try my solar fountain. I can see why those attachments would be annoying by having water everywhere.
@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy Robbie - all fountain pumps I've seen have a switch on them that regulates the volume of water being pumped. No need to burn extra holes in the spray attachment, just adjust the flow setting on the pump!

I don't disagree with you but I just wanted to say that I bought a solar fountain that I plopped in the middle of one of my bird baths - it was all-in-one with the pump attached to the circular base - and it's a beast. I forgot about it over the winter here in southeast Michigan and this spring, I went outside and heard a weird sound coming from the area it was in. I picked it up and, lo and behold, the thing was still kickin'. It hadn't had water in at least six months (*oops!*😝). I put water in the bird bath and the thing is still going over a year later. I guess it just depends on which brand you buy (I got mine for $16 on Amazon).
I have to make some of those fountains this summer. I live in Montana so can't leave them up year around unless I heat them but they should be fun in the summer.
Robbie, I have this exact one only it’s stainless steel. Do you have any suggestions on how to keep the water from getting so hot other than finding a place in the shade? I’m restricted on the cord length for the solar panel. Thank you for being such a great steward for all our creatures.
Im binge watching your videos but got to this one too late. I already purchased the floating solar pump, and we do have hard water. Maybe I can just buy distilled water. My other issue is I have bought two different brands of corded solar pumps and they both arrived broken. The little square box that is supposed to be attached to the back of the panel was no longer attached. You can clearly see where it was once glued before it arrived. I tried lining it up and holding it in the sun to see if it would work. One of them did the other one didnt. So the one that did, i will re glue it, the other one I would like to send back to Amazon or keep for parts, its the one with the longest cord. My question to you is with all the pumps you have ordered has any ever came broken or I should say the corded box no longer attached to the back of panel? And if so did you re affix it or send it back.
Robbie, my hummers won't come to my birdbath, even with the floating solar fountain kit. I tried it last year and not one humming bird used it, but I ordered a solar pump and I am going to try to use one of the chip and dip bowls I found at a thrift store for 49 cents and see if I can get them to come to my fountain on top of a bucket. I haven't made it yet, I just ordered the pump so waiting for it to arrive. I hope I can set it up right and it works. I like that it refills itself and doesn't run out of water. Do you think they will come to it if it's in the middle of the yard, in full sun or do I need to move it under my feeder on my patio, which is in full sun too? I don't have any bushes for them to land on, that is why I think they are not coming to my bird bath in the middle of the yard.

The round solar pumps that need to be in direct sunlight are a terrible idea. You have to have it in direct sunlight to work and being in direct sunlight makes the water very hot. I bought two a couple years ago and used the for about a month.
Be careful done sellers are listing both types in one listing with option A or B but the main picture only shows the the one with a separate solar panel
Robbie you bring sanity to a crazy world for me...thank you for your common sense and frugal approach to life.
I make sure the floating fountains have glass solar collectors on the top so calcium deposits can easily be removed.

@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy thanks! I didn't give up and found the video!!!!! You're talents are amazing!
Ebay I Got Lots From There
Hope That Helps
Awesome! Want to thank you for all the great info that allows me to take much better care of my sweet little friends. About that flying saucer pump, I ordered one today and I just happened to run into your vid, now I'll gladly cancel ( didn't feel good about it to begin with) but my daughter pushed it, she worries about this old lady and 5 gallon buckets! Thanks so much, glad you're touching on solar water pumps is there any way you can tell us the brand name of the pump and from whom you bought ( EBay?) so we too can be as successful as you are? So glad I subbed, you're a jewel!
Ms. Nova
You said you can clean the tiny pump. I’d love to see how please. Thank you for your videos
You probably already have this in a video but I haven’t seen it yet. Where do you purchase your clear rubber hose for fountain?
What to you do about the algae in your pond?
What is that in the top of the water? Love your videos.
Hello Robbie,
I have a silly question, are you and Gary planning to create some shade over the pond before this summer ?
And what kind of fish are in there ??
Loved seeing little Kitty, she makes me smile . Please give her a belly rub from me and some brocoli !
Hugs to both, have a lovely evening !
Thank you ☺️
I’m going to look on eBay now!
the corroding plate: before using the solar plate, wonder if you can "paint"some varnish or mod podge to protect from the water.
The hummingbird was looking at a spare tire used to weigh down the trampoline as the sprinkler was running. I NEED a solar bird bath 🌞
Why do you not use Amazon? I just bought two from them and eagerly waiting arrival to make my ponds!
I have personally had much better buying luck with Ebay, thats all.
@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy ok. Just curious! I haven’t used eBay in an eon and go right to Amazon. Loving your vids- new subbie /hummingbird/bird watcher from New Jersey.
Help, please! How do you attach the flat solar panel on top of a stake?
2:10 is that a snake behind the bird? I looked at it several times and the pattern sure looks like it. Anyway, thank you for all the great tips on how to do this!
April we need do them
I saw Target had rubbermaid containers right next to the potting soil! On purpose!
Sadly, that's the same kind of fountain I got last year. I'm not sure how to get the one with the long cord. My hummies would love the corded one, I'd bet.
You can look at this link, I have bought from them, this is the one you are looking for: Here is an aff. link for Solar Fountain Kit: www.ebay.com/itm/Outdoor-Solar-Powered-Floating-Bird-Bath-Water-Fountain-Pump-Garden-Pond-Pool/333905545511?mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338267736&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1
@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy THANK YOU so much! I'm watching your ice cream fountain now, and I'm so excited to make one of those now! haha!
Can you pint me to the chip and dip bowl fountain ? I can’t find it again. Thanks
I was lucky enough to find your channel tonight. Have you tried the Harbor Freight solar panels?
చాలా బాగుంది.
Make sure when you solder to use only lead-free solder to prevent wildlife from getting lead poisoning.
Hi Kitty!!
Kitty says Hi!
how long do you get out of the cheap kits?
ok should of watched to the end , thanks
I think it’s best if you watch to the end
I’ve had some running for three and four years
The round solar pumps that need to be in direct sunlight are a terrible idea. You have to have it in direct sunlight to work and being in direct sunlight makes the water very hot. I bought two a couple years ago and used the for about a month.
How do you keep mosquitoes from breeding in your fountains
Keep the water moving.
I have mosquitos breeding in moving water! It has to be Garys fish? He says he doesn't have mosquitos in "his" garden?
Be careful done sellers are listing both types in one listing with option A or B but the main picture only shows the the one with a separate solar panel
You are very right, THANK YOU!
