I’ve worked at a car wash for 7 years, and I’ve had people love us and I’ve had people curse us. A few things to take note in using one is No automated car wash will detail your vehicle(unless your at a good one that cost as much as a detailer), after market products and modifications will interfere with the process, and I can’t stress this one enough if you have a year worth of tree pitch on your paint, there is no automated wash that can get that off.
100% they won't even get all the salt, never mind sap. The chemistry of them dulls your finish and the touch tunnels damage your paint. They are supplemental to a detail and hand washing. That's how they should be treated
I live in Phoenix Arizona we don’t have salt problems,,,I keep my 4 cars and trucks clean already,,,so I’m basically having the dust washed off,,my vehicles all stay looking new,,I like these touchless car washes,,no brush, no humans touching my vehicles ,,it’s a win win for me! If they do get where they need a hand washing I DO IT MYSELF,,,, the number one thing I like about a touchless car wash is,,,,NO SWIRL MARKS AFTER YEARS OF WASHES!
Sprayoffs need uncarriage spray wands by standard. I am in the rust belt and have never seen a sprayoff in my life with any reasonable way to clean under the car. Tunnel washes broke my rear wiper so I try to avoid them now.
“Go for the cheapest wash” if you read the other options it includes rinse Presoak & undercarriage etc etc. you pay for what you get. I have 0 issues with my touchless washes and a good alternative to hand washing in the winter.
Sometimes the cheapest wash doesn't include an undercarriage wash. When I used to go to was like that until they upgraded their system. Unfortunately they went out of business during the pandemic.
Something else to note is that sometimes the cheapest option doesn't always have an undercarriage wash so you may want to get the next expensive one up. I'm really surprised this one has undercarriage wash on the basic wash. So read the menu carefully.
I usually go to a self serve wash, pre rinse with water throw on some soap the sprayer then spray out the brush and use the flaming brush then high pressure rinse brush again and rinse then wash my tires
Yeah, the cheapest option will not presoak or clean the under carriage. You're like my wife complaining about the food at a pizzeria after ordering a salad there.
But does your wife own a pizzeria and have certifications in chemical science? The next tier up is loaded with contamination that they call wax and even more aggressive chemicals. This is advice...not complaints. Pick the lowest package and then do a quick detailer wipe down after the wash.
They don’t salt the roads much here in Norrbotten county of Sweden, thankfully. 90% of the cars here have studded winter tires so we can deal with the ice no problem. I’ve seen down south how emergency cars are ruined every winter due to all the salt they use there. Eats up everything and covers the side windows in salt making it harder to look through them. Salt sucks. It’s proven. Yet it’s still being used. Just use studded tires!
Who cares the car has to be clay barred and preferable polished, after winter anyways. All the sand and salt is embedded in the pour of the paint. Any wash is going to dull the finish. Any type of friction during the wash. Essentially is sanding the surface of your paint.
Education....no products or anything else for sale here....at least yet anyway. Touchless is the safest and then follow that with a detail wiped down to neutralize the caustic cleaners. Free advice 😁 Most don't care though and that's OK too
Anybody out there have experience with the product called Perma plate? Car dealerships will tell you it’s basically indestructible, but then you read their website and it sounds very fragile. Is it worth doing? 🤔
My question is do these washes wear at paint after a while? Don't judge me but I bought unlimited touchless washes at my car wash and I want to use it very frequently to get money worth n it's something to do but am I gonna ruin my paint/ clear coat? Like can I wash every 3 days or no?
We have a normal car wash at my job. But we usually detail the vehicles afterwards. Although I have to say, if you rinse off the bristles and the car down with high pressure you don't get many scratches. I regularly experiment with rental cars and mostly glossy black trim pieces get scratched up a little but the paint stays in pretty good condition
@DIRTY2DREAMY yeah I currently do allot of peugeots and we can use pretty hard MF towels. But on my own car I use softer towels. Do you have experience with hyundai, cause our dealership changed this year?
@DIRTY2DREAMY oh god. I'm in for a ride. Luckily some of the new models have matte paint wich I don't have to take care of. But I'm curious next week I have a few on my schedule. Thanks for your knowledge!

I imagine people with luxury vehicles pay a premium and drop it off for detailing, but for the majority of us, our cars are our work horses, try n keep them salt free for rust purposes. Im not tring to start an argument with you. As far as my expirience goes, I cant say I have had any issues related to touchless car washes. Yes I agree they dont do as good of a job as others as you said. Hope you have a happy new year!! 😁
@Myster C oh for sure. It's factually supplemental though. I don't need to live in ever state to know it doesn't get underneath the fins, weather guards and angles. The only way to clean without touching is using a harsher cleaner...this is science. They are definitely better than touch, but should be supplemented with proper detail for those looking to keep their vehicles in tip top shape. They should also be never used on vehicles that are classics or collectors
You're obviously new here. You're on a detailers page that educates the markets on proper wash techniques and what these cheap washes do to your vehicles finish. Welcome to the page!
@@dirty2dreamy350 just casually shaming people without any negative words nice man! I am also new here. This is good to know. I like the touchless tunnel washes during winter in Canada. That $5 ceramic coat looks super appealing though!
I just go to tunnel washes because my vehicle is not my identity.
This the truth^
A lot of people would agree with that!
Fair enough. Me neither but I take care of my stuff in general. Not washing your car in these places with salt can actually cause damage over time
The paint in my car is already falling of is just leaving the primer behind and I’m hood with that XD

thanks for the info
Whats the best wash then
I have a hard enough time timing my washes when it isn’t going to go into sub-zero temps and freeze my locks. Hand wash and detailing is for spring.
If i use a touchless is because it sprays underneath. Then im going straight to wand wash
Best to pay a reputable detailer
i used to pick the top wash because it removes snow and salt and dirt

Delta sonic washes do a good job
I plow with my jeep, so best thing I do after a storm is head to the self serve car wash. $10 and I get all the salt and crap off of the frame.

So you’re saying that heavy contamination left from a touchless wash is better than light swirls the brushed tunnel wash leaves behind?
Better but still a con….better off hand washing
