Just gonna say it even before the reaction comes out... Velvette was easily the Best part of this episode, her song with Carmilla was an incredible display of Mind Games and a demonstration that she's not just "in charge" of social media but that she's a Genius of social interactions, to the point that only Zestial and Alastor caught up to what was actually happening. When Velvette says she's the Backbone of the Vees... i believe her.

A theory my husband and I have is that Alastor has some kinda deal and/or lost his soul to Lilith, and it took her a long time to win it. Thats why he’s helping at the hotel, in order to get his freedom back from her. It’s why Alastor is so docile with everyone, doing as Charile and Vaggie say. Even doing the commercial, and being reduced to making a simple deal with Vaggie in order to make sure they never make him engage with television ever again. He’s just been very good and done exactly as Charile and Vaggie command. Like he was excited to hunt the egg bois for sport when he was told to ‘try’ to get rid of them. But the minutes Vaggie says to do it humanely he backs down. He doesn’t even do it in secret like I would’ve expected.
Very interesting theory on this front. It could still just be that he does know that charlie is backed by some very powerful beings and is one herself and would rather not risk her actually getting angry. But I do think this could be an interesting storyline to play out. Especially since we have seen that if they give up their souls they seem to lose a lot of their power where Alastor is still insanely strong

Daphne Rubin-Vega and her performance as Carmilla, plus just everything they give us in her brief scenes, won me over SO fast. She is one of my all time favorites now, and Whatever it Takes is SO slept on. That power ballad is just SO good, and Daphne can SING. I definitely got echoes of her time on Rent in Carmilla's songs.

Edit 2: ALSO ALSO! Notice when she said "Protect you" and looked to Zestial. And how she stepped up to defend him against Velvette. Those two are CLEARLY very close. Not calling a ship here, but I absolutely love that she would make it clear like that, how she would do the same for him. And the look of surprise on his face.
Honestly, Daphne's performance sells Camilla. It would be really easy to be like "okay you sell murder weapons in order to maintain power and now you're upset you killed someone wtf?" but the direction Daphne took her vocal choices just blows all of that out of the water. And yeah, I immediately went back 25 years to the first time I heard RENT and started bawling.
What I find funny but also sweet about the “whatever it takes” song is the entire song is about two Hispanic women singing about protecting their loved ones.
Both voiced by actors who paired up for In the Heights as well, as it happens.

I was fully expecting Carmilla to be another villain, but no, She's just controlling her turf like the other overlords and trying to protect her daughters. And she feels genuine guilt for causing the angels to move up the extermination. I love her character. Also, "Whatever It Takes" and "Respectless" are such incredible songs. That duet was perfection, and the fact they were both from In The Heights felt like a great callback.

For me is Respectless and Loser. Whatever it takes is really a great song. Actually till now all HH songs are spot on, not a single bad one. And we still have 4 more ep to come so can't wait to listen to the next ones.
Episode 4's songs are definitely better, imo but Respectless is up there for me.

She's sharper than she lets on.

Iirc tho, she did another song number as Gina in Bojack Horseman. And in there she sounded similar to her talking voice. Lower than her Mirabel singing voice, but it felt close. So she CAN sing in a lower pitch.
I think I read someone blaming the song director or smth for giving Stepah a too high a pitch/tune when she's naturally lower. The singing just kinda detaches from Vaggie...but no use talking about it since season 1 is already done.

Honestly I loved how this episode proved that Velvet is more then a spoiled bratty influencer, she's proves that she's smart and bold while also being smart and cunning cuz she immediately knew that Carmilla knew more then she was letting on.

Man if it weren't for the fact Carmilla's kids are in the beginning giving the shipment of weapons to Sir Pentious and had zero reactions to Vaggie, I'd honestly have suspected Vaggie were a Carmine.
The red, black and white color schema of the Carmines and Vaggie are pretty similar, the Hispanic connection, as well as the fact that would explain why Vaggie has a spear like the angels. Carmilla sells angelic infused weapons as seen in Helluva Boss Season 1 Episode 5 "Harvest Moon Festival" as Moxie comments on the rifle that it is a "Genuine Carmine crafted blessing tipped rifle" so she would have access to an angel spear like that. Then them sharing a song about protecting the ones they love.

"Respectless" is tied with "Hell is Forever" as my favorite song in the show so far. It's catchy and all the singers are bringing their A-game to it! I don't know if I can definitively say this is my favorite episode but it's pretty high! Also seeing all the overlords at the table was cool af. Hope we see more of them in the future!
"Whatever It Takes" is easily my favorite song in the season so far. It was beautifully written, sung, and had a great instrumental.

Hey I'm sharing with you a theory that I thought about during episode 3, don't read it if you haven't seen it.
During Carmina's song "Whatever it takes", I found it strange that Carmina and Vaggie were shown singing and sharing what seemed to be the same values, and upon reflection, I found that the characters share a few characteristics:
-Grayish or even white skin (and the girls of Carmina too)
-An accent that highlights Spanish origins
-An important link with weapons, let me explain: Carmina sells weapons in hell and apparently more particularly pistols/firearms "that's what the weapons you sell are for", and Vaggie, although this either surely for the smooth running of the hotel, seems to dislike weapons apart from her spear, especially when she deprives Sir Pentious of his Arsenal.
Moreover, during the song, the two characters reveal clues which suggest that they have lost loved ones in the past thanks to this desire to protect their own.
Carmina already has 2 daughters in hell, and if Vaggie was her third child, who would have abandoned her family after an accident because of the weapons her mother sells causing her to lose an eye, from a family who didn't understand her "that that It was good to be understood."
(I've also heard of the theory that Vaggie was an ancient exterminating angel and I find that interesting too, which might fit with her temperament as an ancient warrior)

I think Vaggie might actually be one of Carmilla's daughters. They both speak Spanish and they both have white hair and the same skin tone. This would also explain why she has an angelic spear since Carmilla is the main purveyor of angelic weapons.
It's possible that Lucifer maybe even asked Carmilla to assign one of her daughters as a bodyguard for Charlie, which could be how they met.

At some point, I got the feeling that the confrontation between Carmila and Velvet reflects not only the conflict of generations (old versus new) but also the conflict between parents and children. In particular, in their song, Carmila chastises Velvet as a strict mother to a rebellious daughter. In any case, something like that slips between them. There is a feeling that Carmila will now say: “Go to your room, young lady!”))
And in the moments when they are shown together in the frame, their (family?) resemblance becomes visible. In any case, Velvet has the same eyes as Carmila and her daughters - red, with a white iris, which can be considered weak evidence of their family connection.
Adding to this interpretation, this is also like an argument from the kid like “Why arent you doing anything? Too scared?” And the parent calling out their naive and ignorance to literal war and what that could implicate for the rest of the world outside of those two. It’s npt hard to assume that 90% of demons wont survive this war and the angels will most definitely overwhelm them and the people the Overlords try or want to protect will be caught in the crossfire
Are y'all sure it's not Vaggie who's Camilla's rebellious kid? They're both Latina, both have similar color schemes, and they have an indirect duet together. Not to mention Camilla was looking at Vaggie's crow's nest at the end.
@@kenjutsukata1o1 No, I do not think so. There are similarities, but Veggie has a different eye color, while red eyes and white irises are a Carmine family trait. There is a moment in the song where Velvet is shown in the same frame with Carmilla and her daughters and it is clear that they have the same eye color. Additionally, Velvet has a white streak in her obviously dyed hair and wears earrings just like Carmilla.
(Regarding the ending of the song - it was just a transition; if you look carefully, you can see that Carmilla has a different view outside the window. Most likely, she and Vaggie would simply have one motive - to protect someone dear).
I am inclined to believe that Vaggie is a converted Exterminator - a cross on her eye, a military bearing, an angelic weapon, but most importantly - her words to Charlie and her song. She speaks and reasons like a real angel, as they should be - guardians and protectors, guiding on the true path.

Yeah, I think that’s the lynchpin: Carmela was protecting her family, a noble act, and that’s why she was able to win.

15:48 I understand this slightly. If the theory that Vaggie is a fallen angel, then she was most likely a exterminator. Therefor, she would've learned in a military-like setting. Here way of thinking from her training is that love and care isn't something you just get, Vaggie thinks it's something that she has to earn. She thinks that she has to work for everything, even Charlie's love.

As far as i remember, Carmilla has a weapon manifacture that uses angelic weapons as main source, we saw in the pilot that the angels always left some weapons behind, and we also saw Carmilla's daughters collecting them, so prolly vaggie's spear was left behind by an angel too

Fallen Angel Vaggie? Yes. First, the cross over the eye, which is a symbol of angels. The dead Angel head in this episode also had it on the side Vaggie does, so does that mean Angels consider Vaggie dead because she is now in hell? Next, the line in 'Whatever it takes' - 'You made me feel like a stranger in a brand new place'. Perhaps Vaggie IS a stranger in a new place.... a place like hell? I have a feeling this theory may be right yknow. I probably have missed alot of other clues, feel free to add those in the replies if you find any.

Dawg vox seems WAYYYY too mad at alastor. He obviously lost pretty badly. Alastor shows no fear in episode 2

About the "vaggie fallen angel" theory I think that she has an exorcist spear because she is Carmella daughter
-vaggie is very militaristic, and skilled with weaponry like she was raised by someone who themselves is very militaristic.

-Plus there song together might indicate they might have a connection
Their designs and personalities are just too similar for me to write it off as a coincidence.
But her militaristic background could still be because of her history as a fallen battle angel, like Lute (Adam's partner from episode 1). Lute is also militaristic and very regimented. Plus I'd imagine that those angels would have harsh and constant training. It's up in the air for now, but the fallen angel idea would still be very consistent with her behavior, design and military background.
My theory is that it's both. Perhaps in life, Carmilla and her three daughters were part of a crime family specializing in weapons. They ended up dying around the same time, with only Vaggie barely qualifying to enter Heaven due to her turning against her family, and under the condition that she be enlisted as an exorcist. She ultimately turned against the exorcists and remained in Hell after meeting Charlie, but doesn't have the courage to face the rest of her family. Would certainly be an interesting angle to explore in the story!
@@wickedfigstv9888 Yeah someone suggested a child soldier and I said either military or gang member. Because El Salvador (Vaggie is confirmed to Salvadorian) wouldn't have used child soldiers by the time she died (2014) and she's stated to be in her 20's. Unless she was in a gang or Cartel. Then the child soldier thing might work. And she might have also gone to heaven and become an exorcist.
It's an interesting theory but Odette and Clara were literally standing next to Vaggie. You'd expect that to prompt a reaction.

About Alastor eating the deer, remember he IS a cannibal lol
The scene with Alastor eating a dead deer in his room is actually a shot for shot remake of one of the first concepts vivzie drew of him. The speed paint should still be on her channel but it was YEARS ago. Also also, Alastor was a cannibal in life, and so that's reflected in his Hellish form too. Cannibal Town is actually his favorite place in Hell, being a town perpetually stuck in the 1930s.

Something I noticed in this episode is that the giant Overlord has the same design as the one we see the torso of in the Pilot’s bar. We only see them getting up, but it’s definitely the same. Also, the guy that dove behind the garbage when Zestial saw him can be seen in the Pilot’s opening. Those were my very first thoughts when I saw them.
I kinda feel like Carmila Carmine and Vaggy are connected somehow, maybe they were both either in a gang, a military unit, or part of a rebel organization. “Whatever it Takes.” Is my favorite song so far in this series
I guess, Carmilla was a head of terroristic organization during her life.
