22:30 - It's not a threat. Sara is a Seraph, same as Lucifer. She saw him fall. They were obviously friends, maybe even seeing themselves as brother and sister. Who do you think Lucifer contacted to arrange Charlie's meeting? There's still a bond there. Sara keeps saying to Em and Charlie, "there's a lot that you don't know" - she's not the boss! She doesn't say who gets into Heaven, or who falls from grace. And when she sees Emily questioning the status quo, she's afraid, truly afraid that Em will fall, same as Lucifer, and she won't be able to stop it.
I think it's meant to be both a warning as well as a threat. I don't think Sera is as moderate as she portrays herself.
Also, we don't know how becoming fallen works, all we have to go off of is the episode 1 intro story, and it was Sera who made him fall
But if we judge by her mannerisms in this episode, she didn't actively want any angel to be fallen
So yeah, lots of info is still missing to make any concrete theories
She doesn't decide which humans get into heaven or hell, but we saw from the first episode that she's the one who cast Lucifer into hell. She's probably working under someone/something else, but she's still the one who cast him down, so it still feels like a threat when she warns Emily about being cast out.
@@IceMetalPunk for sure. While I think she cares for Emily, I still think this concern is also a veiled threat. Even if she cares about Emily, Sera is portrayed quite literally as a character who will "do what's required" as she puts it.

Honestly, I have a feeling that what Sera said to Emily wasn't a threat, but that she was genuinely concerned. She already lost one "sibling" to whoever is in charged above them, so she's very eager to tow the line.
that does assume there is someone above them which - maybe, and maybe the show doesn't want to invite controversy by portraying "him" - but every scene so far makes it seem like a council of high/archangels including Sera is the top of the chain, e.g. the spears and faces pointing at Lucifer at the start of "More than Anything"
St. Peter who here is the angel guarding the gates of Heaven is in the christian canon an apostle of Jesus, though, so *something* is certainly implied by his existence and the crucifix imagery in his design.
As for Sera being concerned rather than threatening, that seems kind of true given she definitely doesn't know what gets someone into heaven (see also, the end of EP8) and someone "falling" like Lucifer might also be outside her control, but "don't question things or you'll be punished" isn't exactly the least threatening thing to say to someone close to you even if you aren't the one doing the (worst) punishing.

I mean, there is defintely someone or something above Sera, because as it was stated, none of them have any idea what classifies a soul as fit for heaven, and yet souls do appear in heaven. That decision has to be made somewhere, and it's above even the Seraphims' paygrade.
Also, for Sera to be concerned about Emily falling it'd be enough for her to not have been on board with the decision of the others who tossed Lucifer out (but too unsure/scared to voice her objections).

Sure, the wording was very ambiguous, but all she really said was "The last angel who shook things up got kicked out (by the others?). I don't want that to happen to you, too."
I have a theory that Em is a replacement to a Seraph, but it's not Lucifer. She says Lucifer but I think she wants to hide the fact he's not the only high level angel to call out the system, making Em see Lucifer is not just a solo rebel. I think Carmilla was Lucifer's replacement and her daughters are adopted. One daughter went to Heaven and the other to Hell for killing someone out of fear to protect them both but still died. Carmilla learned her story, called out how broken the system was, and left Heaven with the girl or was banished. They found the sister and she took them under her wing (no pun intended) as her daughters, hiding the story to protect themselves and being a family.
One daughter has horns while the other wears a hairband with horns on it.
Ultimately Sera is a character driven by fear, not hate or sadism so she is at least a nominally better person than Adam or Lute. It does not excuse her actions but it does make them more understandable. I am curious to see what she does next season, the way I see it she could either try to help Charlie or go completely off the deep end.

As a Christian myself, it makes me happy that Vivzie put Emily in the show. She understands that Emily represents the people of any religion like mine who actually practice what we preach, welcoming sinners and lost souls into the fold, and get angry when other church members make us look bad by being hypocritical. Jesus Christ sat and had supper with sinners and forgave them, loved ALL people even those who didn't believe in Him/hated Him, taught people to love one another, and taught His followers to forgive others for Pete's sake! He would be upset that people act hateful towards people who are lost, different, and/or made mistakes.

Really all of "You didnt know" can be applied to criticizing modern day religion, and I love it for that
All Biblical and Religious references and ideas, which I was able to find in the first season of the series:
1) In fact, the whole plot of the extermination is very similar to the plot of the Book of Exodus, where Pharaoh ordered the slaughter of the children of the Hebrews in order to reduce their number and avoid rebellion. A similar story is present in the New Testament with King Herod, who ordered the capture of little boys in order to find the King of Kings among them in order to get rid of him and preserve his power and throne. Sera essentially resembles Herod and Pharaoh of the Exodus, then Paradise can be considered as Egypt and Judea. And Sinners as Jews, abandoned by God for 400 years of oppression under the rule of a foreign country. Funnily enough, but in the song Hell is forever, Adam drops the phrase "An eye for an eye", which is just present in the Book of Exodus. It says, "If a man hits his male or FEMALE slave in the eye, and the eye is blinded, he must let the slave go to compensate for the eye" as Adam and Lute did to Vaggie, cut out her wings, her EYE and threw her away, releasing her from service. Just as Sir Pentious enters Heaven and becomes an Angel Cobra, when he renounced his sins and redeemed, this can be seen as a reference to how the serpent created by God devoured the serpents created by the Egyptian priests. And this is added by the theory that God himself carried Pentius directly to Heaven and near Sera and Emily.
2) The song "It starts with sorry" you can just see in this song but listening to this song, I am reminded of the story of Jacob and Esau, how the former took almost everything from the latter and fled from punishment, but returned and repented for everything, receiving instead of the expected murder the forgiveness and brotherly love of Esau. That is, there is a good and true message about forgiveness, repentance, letting go of the past, rejection of one's evil deeds.
3) If we assume that Jesus existed in this universe, this can be understood by St. Peter, one of his Apostles and disciples, then Charlie continues his work, so to speak, but if Jesus worked exclusively with living people, then Charlie is trying to atone and make the Sinners in Hell believe. And in fact, she also has apostles, Vaggie herself, AngelDust, Alastor, Husk, Sir Pentious, Niffty and Cherry Bomb. Lucifer then can be considered as a Joseph and Lilith as a Virgin Mary, because I love to theorize that she after eating a fruit from the Tree of Knowledge become the bearer of the true pure power of good, which was partially passed on to her daughter. And if we take into account the fact that she is formally the granddaughter of God, if one still exists in the universe of this series, then he would not only be glad that such a glimpse appeared in Hell, but it is also possible that he himself contributed to her being born and helped the souls of the dead to be cleansed of sins. And just like Jesus in his ideas, Charlie also has enemies and opponents, Adam and the Exterminators themselves can be seen as Pharisees, who are kind of priests and servants of the Lord, but who are not clean, corrupt and who wanted to kill the righteous man, Jesus himself, seeing in him a threat to their power and influence. Sera can then be seen as Pontius Pilate, who conducts a trial and pronounces a sentence on the further fate of the righteous man. Emily can be considered as Mary Magdalene. And Heaven can be interpreted as the Roman Empire. And if we talk about who will become the new Judas Iscariot, then it will definitely be Alastor, who will betray Charlie and her ideas, but then, perhaps, either sacrifice himself or destroy himself, just as Judas himself, realizing what he did and that he was guilty, committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree. Even the way the Angels, and in particular the Lute, condemn Sinners and at the same time not noticing their own vices or thinking they are right, this is a living illustration of the wisdom of Jesus: "Judge not, lest you be judged."
4) The way Vaggie refuses to kill Lute when she had the opportunity to do so and avenge everything she did to her is a reference to the story of David and King Saul. David did not kill Saul, although the latter wanted to kill David, but the future new great king did not touch the anointed of God, just like him. The same is true of Vaggie and Luth, who are both angels, and despite the fact that Vaggie, as well Lucifer, is Fallen. They're still angels in essence and in personality.
5) Also, the plot and characters is relatively similar to the Book of Esther, with the plot of how a female ruler from the people who are under the rule of a powerful kingdom, saves her people from destruction and extermination. Charlie and Emily herself - Queen Esther. Sinners - Jews. Angels - Persians. Sera and Lucifer - King Ahasuerus. Lilith - Queen Vashti. Adam - Haman the Agagite. Lucifer and Vaggie - Mordecai. And just as Ahasuerus is unable to revoke the order to exterminate the Jews, so he issues a new order that the latter may be resisted, and this entails battles and celebrations. The same is true in the season finale. Sinners and Cannibals, along with Charlie, Vaggie and Lucifer, give battle to the Exorcists and win not without losses, and then celebrate.
6) And finally, the very way Charlie tries to guide Sinners to the true and righteous path, this is what many famous prophets of God did, in fact, Moses, Jonah and Elijah. And yes, Heaven can be considered as a monotheistic state, and Hell and demons as a pagan idolatrous people. As the Europeans, English, or Spaniards actually treated the native population of America, hating them largely simply for their different faith and for the color of their skin. Or just as the Ottoman Empire took tribute from conquered lands, so Heaven essentially takes tribute from Hell by murdering Sinners.

Something I realized while watching this: Adam claims there are no hard days in heaven...So if they have no struggles or problems...Then they don't know anything about what it's like to be human. And yet they judge humans. They judge that which they know nothing about.
Nah. Sera said they're not the ones judging the humans. They don't even know what criteria gets you into heaven. They get judged, presumably by god, and they either show up in heaven or they go to hell, it has nothing to do with them.
Adam was once human 😂 & a majority of heaven's people were human, so they do know, it's just being in heaven is a like paradise to them so they don't have to do the shit humans on earth have to do & deal with
@gyver8448 she may have said that but the whole episode was all based on judgment. They tried to sit there and pass judgment on Angel and they found him unable to be redeemed. Also as the seraphim she should have an inclination as to how people go to heaven, even if it's decided by their higher power. That is what I don't get.
And the way sir Pentious died and made it to heaven gives you an inclination on what gets you to heaven.
" an act of good will or faith " still how religion is ran now a days. People who commit sins believe that if they clean up their lives and live a life of good will or faith, they could be sent to heaven.
Not to mention that it's impossible. Can't have great days if there's no good days. It's like the whole "can't have a shadow without light" thing.
It'd just be tze same monotone shit every single day (and it wouldn't be 'great' if it's always the same) which sounds horrible. I think I would prefer hell, at least they get to experience good and bad days 😂
@@claudiagonzales1821 It's simple, really. They have no idea how you get into heaven because it's not their job to know. They're not the ones deciding. This much is made extremely clear. Also, they weren't trying to judge whether or not Angel would be allowed in. They were judging whether or not it was worth trying to help Charlie in her venture. They decided it wasn't (mostly to save face, probably). But they're still not passing judgement on sinners directly. That's not their job.
It's delightful to see people who haven't watched some parts of the Hellaverse cartoons watching individual series! There are so many items, like Cherry fighting Sir Pentious in the pilot, and where this episode’s “Watching Angel Dust” parallels what happened to Charlie in the pilot a month (or a week?) before the start of the Amazon series. Love the video, agree with all the impressions!

Idk if anyone has explained it already or not but the eyes in the walls and the floor and in objects are souls that have been absorbed by the environment. That's what happens in hell when your death is so visceral your soul can't repair you. Everyone in hell is essentially 'immortal' sort of. They can die over and over, and their soul will bring them back, but if your soul is beyond repair you get absorbed into hell itself.

that only happens to Sinners, as Hellborn don't get to "respawn" once killed. So, those eyes could be Hellborns who were killed while in Pride

Exactly! Which makes me wonder why Angel just doesn't go back? I mean, I guess Val would just go looking for him, but still. If Angel stays in the hotel and ignores Val, then when Val comes looking for Angel, he is met with Alastor and Lucifer, as well as Nifty. I can only imagine his face.
Obviously, he already knows that Al is there, given that he was the one who told Vox about it, but I gotta imagine seeing the king of Hell and the terror that is Nifty (who he became terrified of in this episode - as he should) would knock his socks off

I think it's only cause Angel's been with Charlie, Husk, and the others at the hotel that he found (or cared to find) the loophole in his contract with Val. That means he's been searching for a way to have more freedom than he did before. It's a huge change for the better in his mental state.

I think that's exactly what's going on, otherwise Val wouldn't have been so pissed off when Angel moved out of the studio and into the Hotel. It's also why Val keeps calling him back to the studio randomly and having him work such long hours. He's trying to regain control over Angel because he doesn't have him constantly there as a sexual and physical punching bag. I don't think Angel realized in the beginning that him moving to the Hotel was allowing him to take back some of his power. Val is definitely a control freak and what he likes to control is his power imbalance over people. When you take something away from a control freak like that, it can send them into a frenzy which is what we saw happen in episode 2 when Val was wrecking Velvette's department. Hope that made sense, because it made a lot of sense in my head and I'm not always the best at translating long thoughts into words.

An interesting thing is there's a short moment in the 5th episode where it looks like Lucifer is looking at a spot above Vaggie's head and is confused (possibly due to the absence of a halo)
there is little theory (but I guess it's pretty realistic) about their hug. If you look at it closely Luci looks a bit concerned for a moment. He probably felt the place Vaggie got her wings ripped off and then checked for a halo. He realized she's the fallen angel but didn't say anything about it

Not only did Charlie prove nothing in terms of redeeming a soul from hell, in fact, they found evidence to the OPPOSITE, since behaving better DIDN'T do anything and Angel's still in hell. The question was never whether someone can learn to behave well, but whether a soul in hell earning a place in heaven was possible.
that's certainly factual and what Sera was expressing, but it also invites the question of "if being a good person doesn't grant you entrance to heaven, is the system actually just?" which is the idea the song ended on and what Sera chose to sidestep without further explanation.

A theory some people have floated around is that Adam was let into Heaven because he never ate the Fruit of Knowledge.
Also, I think Vivzie confirmed that when a Sinner is killed with an angelic weapon, their energy fuses with their surroundings causing those eyes.
Yeah that theory has been going around a lot and it does make some sense (emphasis on some). By not eating the Fruit of Knowledge, Adam doesn't fully see or fully understand the nuances between of good and evil, so his point of view is more like a straight arrow than a twisting squiggly lines and he truly does only see things black and white as he said in his song Hell is Forever. So in Adam's eyes, the Extermination is a good thing because he is stopping evil demons from invading Heaven and it's okay to enjoy doing it as long as you think you are doing a good thing.
@AndyVu-mz6cb my point exactly. Also, since he never committed the "Original Sin," he's "Pure" in the Universe's eyes or whoever decides a soul's destination.
@dantegrimm6439 I also heard that a small a group of people wanted Adam to be redeemed. Which is almost impossible now that he got killed by an Angelic Weapon and those things destroy souls, the only way I can see Adam coming back is that there is a higher power (maybe God?) interferes with his soul from being fully destroyed. Kind of like how Pentious got up to Heaven, but we don't know if Adam's Holy light attacks have the same effects as the Angelic Weapons, if yes then there is a higher power that saves Pentious soul from being destroyed.
And even if by some miracle that Adam does come back as a Sinner, he is more likely try to become an Overlord than to join Charlie's Hotel. However the point of Hazbin Hotel is redemption, so I can see a scenario that Adam tries to become an Overlord at first, but it did not turn out well for him and he got so desperate that he begrudgingly joins Charlie's Hotel.
Of course it's just a crack pot theory I come up with, I could be totally wrong. We'll just have to wait until Season 2 comes out for more info.

@@bumfricker2487 I figure that as much, but there are a few videos here on UA-cam that do make analysis on how they think there could be more to Adam's character to be explored. Like I said, I still doubt that Adam could return and even if he does, he probably wouldn't want to become a better person either, however I could see the potential behind the idea.

So the widely accepted theory is that the eyes are actually dead sinners. When an angel kills a sinner then the souls don't really disappear they are shattered and the pieces of them infuse with the surroundings.

18:40 Actually there is. Viv said that the souls of damned who are permanently killed by angelic weapons turn into dark energy that possesses objects, giving them eyes or more organic looking buildings.
The theory that I've heard about the eyes is that when souls get killed permanently, the pieces of them remaining kinda melt into their surroundings, becoming things like those eyes. That's why there's hardly any in heaven, but they're all over in hell because of the exterminations.

I don't even think the lucifer comment was a threat, I think she legitimately fears that happening. As much as we love to rag on Sera, I think there's more to her, she's not simply "evil bad angel doesn't care" like no I think she cares-- she's just not considering the fact their very structure might be wrong, and doing so legot scares her.

Best thing about Niffty ripping that "collar" fur is that - from what I read somewhere that's actually fluff on his neck and he can feel through it. So it probably felt like ripping a bunch of hair at once.

Sera's not exactly threatening Emily with falling. When you listen to exactly what she says and observe her actions, it's more like she's *warning* Emily about falling, presumably from higher forces outside of Sera's control
Regarding the eyes: My personal favourite theory is that they are the eyes of Roo, she's a character Viv created who hasn't appeared in the show yet. She is essentially the root of all evil. I believe the eyes are her constantly watching everything that's going on in hell, and I imagine that every time someone dies in hell (not by angelic weapons) it fuels her power more and more. If you recall there was a glimpse of a haunting figure with eyes in the backstory of the world in episode one, I think it was her. There is a Hazbin Wiki page about her, with her design too. Viv has said that she will be a "looming threat in the distance" and that she's very excited for her to appear much later in the story.
Great video. DB Z introduced me into the genre. I was so close to visiting Japan one point myself. I had experience with MoCap and in late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. Yes, Vaggie should have been the one to tell Charlie her secret However, I get why she didn't say anything. It was more of keeping it by omission, if anything, than outrigtht lying. However, Charlie also has this way of being inside her own head a lot. Both her and Vaggie are my current fav chracters, but it's true. It was super obvious Vaggie was uncomfortable with the idea of going to Heaven and Charlie could have approached that situation a bit better(In present), as well. I needed to see this episode in the reactions of others so many times to realize that Sera never recognized the existence of Vaggy, the "sinner" who accompanied Charlie, at any point. Vaggy is literally ignored by everyone until Adam goes to her.

Regarding Lute being disgusted by Vaggies relationship with Charlie. Originally I thought Lute was being homophobic but she may have actually been referring to the fact that an Angel is sleeping with a Hellborn.
Like it must have been blasphemous for Lucifer and Lilith to be together. Otherwise, it doesn't really make sense as to why Lilith was immediately sent to hell with Lucifer.
@@AlcoxtheGreat Well Lilith is also responsible for giving the Fruit of Knowledge and Freewill to Eve alongside Lucifer. This allows Dark and Evil forces into the Mortal Realm, so it makes sense that both Lilith and Lucifer must suffer the same punishment. But I can also see that Lucifer and the other Angels are not supposed to have an intimate relationship with mortals, even with the ones that they created.
@AndyVu-mz6cb Lilith's role just didn't seem really clear to me. Maybe she encouraged Lucifer, which finally made him cross the line by enacting his own plan without consent from the other Angels.

I agree about the hypocrisy of the angels not caring that Adam was swearing and belittling Charlie but are shocked when Charlie swore in excitement. Also that Angel passed everything on Adam’s list, yet Sera still said there wasn’t evidence he could be redeemed. But it wasn’t a threat when Sera was saying Emily could fall, she was genuinely afraid of losing Emily and was trying to protect her.
For Sarah to deem that a sinner is capable of redemption and being able to go to heaven, they will literally have to go to heaven since Angel did not go to heaven so that doesn’t prove Charlie’s theory to be true therefore, she would have to go for the latter and denied that sinners are capable of redemption. Also you can’t go by Adam’s list because he doesn’t know how he even got into heaven so you can’t use it as an actual weight against Sarah decision
@@brickdragon7131 I can go by Adam’s list because Sera agreed with it and used it for the trial. If the list was wrong Sera would have rejected it. Emily was questioning why Angel wasn’t in Heaven I think he should have gone to Heaven in the first place. Sera was wanting to refuse despite any evidence it wouldn’t have mattered whether they got in to Heaven. Charlie was trying to save her people they didn’t have time to get in to Heaven. The whole point was to prove it could be achieved. Also her name is Sera not Sarah.
Sera was right, there is no evidence at the moment souls can be redeemed. Or otherwise, Angel would be in Heaven. Charlie only proved souls can improve, that's very different.
The evidence that souls can be redeemed is at the end of episode 8. But before that, there is no evidence the hotel works.

Because the question was not if a soul can change, but if a soul can be redeemed. There is a distinct difference between the two. The angels don't actually know _how_ a human soul is either able to ascend to heaven, or damned to hell. They know _when_ it happens, but nothing more than that.

So, I found it rather interesting that when Charlie mentions Angel Dust, Adam recognizes him as ‘The Porn Demon’. But later in 8 when he meet Alastor he asked him ‘Who the F-- are you’ not sure the exact line. But Adam knows what ‘demon’ is for Porn and not an Overlord? Begs the question of just how much of Angels stuff has Adam watched. He confirmed he listens to music from hell during episode 1. Something along the lines of ‘Nice tunes, not gonna lie’

I think the reason Adam can cuss without any punishment is because he was the first man, or maybe Angels can't hear the cuss words that the other angel says but lute cusses and doesn't get any punishment at all. They probably did a deal or something with God or Sara, and when you mentioned the eye's I started to think that God or someone is watching them to! And yes God does have eyes like he can see EVERYTHING, so the eyes do seem to connect to God. But i don't really understand why God would be looking after the sinners, and if God was watching everything he would see the extermination, Maybe. he may be apart of the extermination if he saw everything! But the thing is why would he let the people who he made die, it's probably because there in hell. About the Eyes in hell, Vivziepop confirmed they are the remainjng energy of the souls of the Sinners that permanently die in hell condencing. (But from now a theory, not confirmed) what if they are also related to Roo? She was depicted a femenine figure with many eyes in her mouth in an art and said by Vivziepop to be a "future treat in the distance" also a red eyed figure smiling appeared in the intro of the first episode. Just like Eve in the intro was shown to have a red smile, of course it could be the reflex of the light of the red forbiden fruit but it could also be a foresheadowing to perhaps Roo is using Eve as a "host" so she can manifest phisicaly...? If rgats not the case she is either in Heaven, but we can assume that by Adam's behavior that she is not or she could be in hell or double dead from an extermination (wich I think Adam wouldn't do)
