The summer before my junior year of high school I started a year of no desserts or sweets. Throughout the year, I learned a lot of lessons. Some of the results were great and others were terrible, but they all taught me something important.

UPDATE: For more info about quitting sugar, watch this video -> QUITTING SUGAR: What You NEED to Know! ua-cam.com/video/OQ1-rY5H6pQ/v-deo.html
Ask yourself this: according to pre industrial revolution days less that 500 years ago would your diet be extreme or just normal?
The answer is just normal. Think about that. This pass sugar and chocolate phenomenon is a recent thing and we're the guniea pigs
Are you married? Hi
Sarah Moran Nutritio

Without sugar, or without desserts? There's sugar in most (almost all) store bought salad dressing and food in general.
Yeah that was one of my big revelations going through the experiment. It definitely made me think more about food and what was in it as a teenager who still didn't know much about nutrition. Was I trying to avoid just dessert foods or sweet foods or processed sugar or added sugars or something else? I thought it was pretty simple when I started, but I realized it was more complicated as I went on.
LegendaryStory added sugar
the addition of Refined sugar.
Exactly - if she only gave up desserts then she didn't give up sugar. Sugar is in almost all store bought food. The only way to do this is to cook all your own food. No sugar and no salt either.
Our bodies need salt. you would die if you did that.
Very misleading title.
sometimes it's hard to label stuff verry precisely so she just decided to label it how she did ps not trying to be rude 🙂
Giving up deserts ≠ No sugar . There's added sugar in 80% of foods in stores. Something called the blizzpoint.
Added sugar you baboon.
I never bought any such items and ate from home... Homemade
The ad before this video was Kit Kat
Haha!
I couldn't watch long enough to get to your point so gave up watching.
This video is one of my more chatty ones. Some people love that style, others don't, but I try to do a mix here on my channel. Some are more short "tips and tricks" type videos and others are a little more casual. Hopefully you can find some that are more your style. :) Thanks for watching and for the feedback!
Sarah Moran Nutrition . The knowledge and the point is good...Just too high pitch and too dramatic with the voice. Can tell you adapted to the tone and pitch and frequency that the majority of college students adopt. Such as when they make a statement in an interrogative tone and pitch....like the sound of a question when your sentence isn't a question. Kinda like a sheep/blind follower in that way. Otherwise, the substance of the video holds quality.
Don't forget the college Eng 101 class that teaches ( or should have taught) about how you're received by your audience regarding tone, pitch, etc.
KevinPris COV - Ooooh... the sentences that are intoned as questions / doubts although they are none *lol*?! Very annoying in people?! I noticed it too in many English speakers, especially Australians?! ;-)) I could go on and on... people need to stop doing this (I'm German and it's even more distracting, irritating to listen to them then).
Though there are much worse cases than her on youtube, I can't listen to those others because it's extremely over the top with the false intonation. Sometimes difficult was that her voice got shrill / very high pitched at the beginning or in the middle of sentences.
huebinh trinh Me too. Great topic but the voice is annoying. It's so high and the move of the hand makes me crazy 😵
Its an American/Austalian thing, Brits also find this annoying, but I didn't notice it with Sarah as I was interested in what she had to say, and yes I did listen to the end. Sometimes you have to look past the style to the content and allow for cultural differences. I remember an Indian woman who did a video some time ago getting attacked for her accent. She spoke perfect English and had made an interesting video, but people said she wasn’t speaking English properly because of her accent. People are fickle. Thanks for putting yourself out there Sarah, even in the face of fickle comments :-)
Really enjoyed the story of your food journey to better understanding. I've been slowly walking away from sugar and I'm amazed at how much better I'm feeling, particularly mental clarity. It's like I've been looking through a fogged window and someone wiped it clean and clear. However, I do not want to miss out on memories and special times with friends and family, so I've decided to have the rare wedding cake and enjoy aunt Eva's amazing sweet potato casserole twice a year and say THANK YOU! And then go back to my regular way of low/no sugar, mostly veg way of eating. I've got a daughter watching. I want her to see the joy of real food and exercise as well as the joy of special occasions with rare and wonderful treats with family and friends. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing your experience, sis! 🌹🌹🌹
so you didnt give up sugar, you just avoided eating dessert.
Rodrigo SV That's what it sounds like.
Rodrigo SV The rest of the video shows that later on, she gave up all added sugar.
That doesn’t count
We learn to walk after we fall.
Sometimes it's just hard to pit a label on stuff so she just labled it like she did ps not trying to be rude🙂
Thank you very much for your insight! Really is something I need right now that I am dieting. I like your voice in fact.
Amazing will power! About to try and go 4 weeks which seems impossible! Good on you!
Thank you! I am on a journey of no added sugar for a year. This was so helpful!
Wow, you holding out in France! Great job!
To hell with sugar. Life is far more valuable than a feel-good sugar buzz.
As a single person who lives alone, what works well for me is adhering to a mostly unprocessed, mostly plant based diet when I eat by myself. When I eat with others, which is the case for maybe 3 or 4 meals in a week, I allow myself to indulge.
I can definitely attest to taste bud adaptation. I cut out most of my sugar intake in early January this year, allowing for occasional sweets (primarily special occasions). I had apple pie a couple weeks ago and it tasted amazing. I also started noticing that a lot of fast food sauces, for instance barbeque sauce, have a significant sweetness to them that I never really thought much of before- some of which are actually kind of disgusting to me now.
I'm going to amp up the seriousness for a few months at some point in the future when I don't have to deal with the stress of school and cut out empty carbs for a couple months, but the minimal sugar thing will probably be a lifestyle from this point forward.
missleading title
Really enjoyed this video - just talked about your experience without having an elitist attitude about it. I think im going to do this. Lets go.
Iheart books . Exactly 👍
Glad you liked the video! I have to tell you though that I don't recommend anyone try this themselves. By doing it I really learned that it wasn't a healthy thing to do.
great video love to hear about your experience thru that. this will definitely help me make a good general diet for my self thanks :)
Sure thing!
Yep, I’m going the non-sweets way & cutting back on chips & snacks (high sodium garbage)
I'm actually doing this now....almost. I will go literally 4 or 5 months, then I'll have a piece of pie, then 4 or 5 months, another piece of pie or a piece of strudel, whatever. That's about all the sweets that I eat. I feel SO much better. The feeling of steady calm level-headedness it gives you is unbeatable.
Too many sweets can definitely make you feel blah. Now that I'm at a healthy place with my mindset around food (it some work to get there), I can enjoy desserts in a healthy amount and never feel like I HAVE to have them or that I CAN'T have them. It's so much better than the way it was before.
Don't you have new cravings after having one piece of pie?
sometimes going to extremes with our mind and body is what helps us to find balance.
when I watch your videos, I enjoy and learn something new. always thumb up for your videos . thanks for sharing.
That's awesome to hear! Thanks so much! Definitely let me know if you ever have a video request. :)
For me you are literally the best youtuber ever!! you deserve more subscribers . waiting to see your garden update.
Idk girl I’m doin the no refined sugar thing right now and I can say that I never want to go back because my ridiculous improvement in energy I could go as far as saying high sugar consumption is correlated to MY acute depression not trying to speak for everyone else.. I just think you had almost an anorexics mindset about it.. too much “control” was involved . Idk I just feel like my body is able to heal itself in this moment being sugar free and I wouldn’t give it up for birthday cake but instead find a no sugar recipe and celebrate my birthday in good health!
This was actually super helpful because i am only 14 and live with my dad and can’t buy my own food and cut out all sugar and I really want to cut out desserts and sugary cereal and stuff❤️
Erika Wrob Unless you’re super fat, don’t. You’re a kid, and you’re body can absorb sugar better then a middle age adult or older. I’m not saying eat a lot of sweets, just don’t try to cut it out completely like this girl. Do try to eat healthy cereal like wheaties, and you can add banana or strawberry slices to it. If you don’t like healthy cereals, then I would just avoid it, and eat something else for breakfast, like eggs and toast. If you want to cut something out completely from your diet, cut out drinking coke, or any kinds of soda, which is loaded with sugar, and has no health benefits, except caffeine, in some sodas. So maybe tell yourself, I only will eat 2 or 3 desserts a week, if they come my way, and that’s all you need to cut out at your age.
I'm not sure how to do sugar in moderation. I know if I give up sugar, the moment I eat it again I will spiral out of control. I'll go a whole year without sugar, have a birthday, eat some cake, and the eat the whole cake, and then die. HELP!
I totally know what you mean. You can get stuck in the all or nothing cycle where you go back and forth from one extreme to the other. Restriction leads to a binge which leads to restriction and so on. The truth is, it takes practice. When I first started, it was scary to not be "in control." As you go on though you learn how to enjoy sweets without going overboard. Also, sometimes you might go overboard, but you can use those times as learning opportunities to figure out what's too much and also what your tendencies are.
My boyfriend and I are going to cut out all added sugars and sweeteners for the whole month of November. We're both major sweet-tooths, so it'll be a challenge, but I think ultimately it'll help us learn more about what we're eating, how to work with meal planning with such a specific and major cut-out, and it'll turn us away from eating out. I'm hoping we'll be able to stick to it for the month!!
Well done, girl.
Thanks!
Great video, Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience!
I think all things in moderation (portion control) across the board with respect to nutrition diet and fitness will give you a better quality of life as opposed to restriction .
How great for you to have learned such important lessons at such a young age! Kuddos and best of luck always! :-)
Thank you! It took a little time to work through this stuff, but it's great to be on the other side of it!
I'm very proud of you keep it up almost Everything in food has Sugar its Scary.
If you ever feel comfortable sharing, that would be interesting to hear about disordered eating and what role it played in becoming a dietitian and if the career can lead to or flare up old struggles.
I've talked about my dieting history and personal journey in this video: ua-cam.com/video/M6bXFG-bCGg/v-deo.html For me personally, going through my training helped me.
This was really interesting and I commend you for doing it. When I was a kid I was allergic to refined sugar and milk (I could have cheese though). For me growing up not eating sugar was a really hard thing. There wasn't a lot of foods made for people like me. I think that's why when I got older and I grew out of the allergy I went so sugar crazy. To this day I have tendency to go overboard on occasion, but at the same time I'm not a big dessert person. Where I get most of my sugar is from soda. I actually gave up soda for Lent one year and it was one of the most difficult 6 weeks of my life. Now, I just try to keep it in good moderation.
It's so interesting how we all crave different things. For me, soda isn't a big deal at all. I just don't care about it. Desserts on the other hand...
I quit sugar but I realised soon this was not a nice life. I agree that balance is the best in order to be happy. Nice video
Im on day 3 without added sugar and going through detox with headaches, feeling dizzy and achy muscles. You did this for a year without any health changes? Not even weight loss? All I heard you mentioning was your mental process.
You Go Girl!!!! Im in Love with your Will Power! You are the type that can really achieve ANYTHING because of the way you think!
Im trying to cut out sweets, and its KICKING MY BUTT!!!! This is just DAY 1! LOL
I feel you pain. Had a sweet tooth since childhood but I've cut surgar for a while.
I'm definitely a sweets person, but working on my relationship with food has helped a lot.
This describes my no sugar journey. It’s been a couple of weeks and I’m still having sugar withdrawals.
Actually I found this video useful considering I wanted to do this myself so I now have a better idea of what to expect and plan for
Glad it was helpful for you. Overall, I wouldn't recommend trying something like this.
Hi Sarah, as a person with a history of disordered eating ( and periods of sugarless-ness) I can very much relate to feeling deprived of social eating experiences. As for your regrets, did you ever feel that there were so many missed opportunities (during your abstinence), because society in general eats "sweets" on the regular? I don't judge you at all for sticking to your guns, even in France. :) I am trying to find what balance is right for me, b/c even a teaspoon of sugar sends me on a sweets binge. I'm trying to avoid type 2 diabetes with the extreme correction of avoiding all non-fruit sugar sources. For my birthday this year, I made tacos. :) And for desert, we had papaya, watermelon and jack fruit. :) I have found that as I look back on my eating experiences, I remember the emotions and the company more than the flavor. If those were good, than I have only happy memories. :)
You can eat tasty deserts with no sugar though, like cake made with dates etc. I decided to quit sugar for health reasons and just because. t's been just over 3 weeks and I don't really miss it. I don't really have a set end point, kind of wondering if it's actually beneficial to cut it out completely. Like seriously? I tend to be quite all or nothing too lol
Did you use sweeteners in your coffee?
Thanks Sarah. All excellent points. I'm about 70 days into my own "no sugar, wheat, or dairy" adventures. Interesting to hear you bring up a lot of the same dilemmas I've been wrestling with too. It's tricky to navigate normal, modern life while trying to abstain from these things.
You don't want to be "that person" everyone notices because they can't have this, that or the other.
So, there has to be middle ground somewhere.
Keep up your good work! :-)
Balance is the key. :) Thanks!
I’m really struggling with finding that balance with sugar and also with alcohol because once I say yes to it it’s like it’s a matter time before I’m doing it every day and then when you’re doing something every day it’s like are you really enjoying it or you doing it just because it’s a habit so I would like to hear you talk more about that aspect of it and how you are progressing and finding that balance.
I am on day 11 of no sugar. I agree with you on extreme but for 30 days I am giving it up. After I will include a very limited amount.
Girl idk how you did it but congrats!!! I'm going to start no sugar for 14 days and see what happens! I start Monday (tomorrow )
Know it's been 5 years buttt. I just wanna know
Did you go thru with it?
2 years and 23 days I make a huge shift in my life. Sugar free is only hard in the beginning. It feels easier and easier as time goes by
i did the exact same thing, because I quit eating all sugar for a month once, and i felt alive, but then after i ended that month my sugar addiction came back stronger than ever and it was awful. now i'm setting an experiment for 6 months to see how my health improves without eating sugar every day, basically no sugar except for holidays and birthdays. that way i'm not limiting myself and it isn't unhealthy.
No sugar for 1 year? A little misleading if you were eating salty pastries and other things like that. Cos when something doesn't taste sweet, doesn't mean it has no sugar in it.
I'm curious why does she have so many dislikes ? She did a good job of rationalising her experience, she will be a good dietitian. Unless ppl we're expecting some physical results of quitting sugar?
You've got a lot of willpower to do that by youself. I've been reading up on Sugar, there's more and more research that shows it is actually addictive. For some people it's more addictive than cocaine. So for a lot of people it is actually a bad food. Is it actually normal to eat sugar? That's my question. We eat it but it's a relatively recent occurance for us to have so much exposure to sugar. I started looking at some foods in the supermarket today - sugar is in EVERYTHING. Even things that are supposed to be savoury. Why? It seems the only way to avoid it is to avoid processed foods.
Well we've always had sources of sugar like fruit and honey, but we definitely have more around us than we did in the past. I don't think we can blame sugar for all of our problems just like we can't blame fat or anything else, but a lot of us do seem to be in a sugar overload. That's why I think it's a good idea to eat mostly real, whole foods and work the other things in here and there if you want.
I lоve the I'm going tо give thesе produсts a chanсe to wоrk their magiс on meeе. I've tried evеrything out thеreеe and so far nоoоthing hаs bеen goоd enоugh to hеlp me. Chеck оut it thеrе twitter.com/fa3ad4f67c23bc958/status/788632172043366400 No Sugar fоr 1 Year What I Learned
I have a horrible sweet tooth lol I try to instead have a fermented food luv olives. I also have a good swing of apple cider vinager to cut the craving. But I still enjoy desserts on special occasions (b-day cake!!) I wanted to hear your opinion on my solution to sugar cravings.
I guess the big thing is understanding where the craving is coming from. If you've been used to eating a lot of sugar then your taste buds are adjusted to that. When you start eating less sugar, it takes a little time your taste preferences to switch. On the other hand, if you don't eat a ton of sweets, it might be a sign that your body needs some sugar. Not necessarily a dessert, but maybe some fruit. For example, pregnant women often crave more fruit than they normally do because their body needs the extra carbs.
When I quitted sugar I was really sensitive to anything sweet for example: toothpastes are like chocolate.
This helped. I'm shunning sugar for the summer to break my dependence, but I think I'm going to plan to incorporate one slice of birthday cake for each family member's birthday. That way I can join in the celebration and see how sugar feels after weeks of no sugar. It's not evil; it's just too prevalent in my life. I feel better and my head's clearer. I really though I would miss it a lot more than I do. I will have wedding cake, too, when the opportunity presents itself. No way would I miss the chance to have dessert in France, though. 😉
I learned absolutely nothing watching this video. No useful information was in it.
North Dallas Guy Agreed
This is more of a chatty video sharing my personal experience and conclusions from that experience. Most of my videos are nothing like this actually, so if you want something more educational the other videos on my channel would probably be more your style. Thanks for watching!
My mom was super health conscious, so we were eating "natural", no sugar added apple pie rather than things like fudge. Can't stand anything overly sweet. Here's the BEST chocolate ever if you have a similar palate....Trader Joe's bittersweet Belgian Chocolate...actually tastes like chocolate, not just sugar shock. SOOO GOOD!
stay out of sugar will slow down aging
I also had experience of having thoughts between not performing up to my expectations and going overboard to the point of becoming obsessive. At the extreme you are so focused on achieving your goal in a challenge that you deprive yourself of something that made you happy before, leading to lose some part of your ego. There is a cost to goals we set in life that require us to let go of something and only determined will do this. Perhaps why those determined people are misunderstood but average people who are not aware beyond their level of thinking and think of us as weird. Some of these people would slowly go away and like-minded people will come to take their place.
I quit sugar to the extreme that I eventually felt like I am missing life when I saw people enjoying it and offering it to me. I came back to it because I found that when I was stressed, I had to have something that would offset the negative experience with a joy and sweet things were one of those things. The more I had to deny it as I was stressed, the more I became stressed and eventually angry. I remember feeling "guily" even consuming small amount of it and I would make myself exercise as a punishment.
I do consume sugar today but I keep it in moderation. I think you were right when you mentioned that we go through such experience to understand the balance, the middle ground it's called as well because this allows us to understand the line between not paying attention and paying too much attention and master moderation.
You're right, it's easy to fall into an all or nothing mentality. It's so nice to be at a place now where I don't feel the pull to go to extremes with my food, but I also try to remember that I can have that tendency so I don't end up going back there. I'm glad to hear that you've been able to find a middle ground as well!
Minhaz Ozil The best way would be to completely eliminate it from your life provided you are unable to hold control of your ego and exercise moderation. It's because sugar is like cocaine from perspective of addiction. So you either have it moderately or forget about it by erasing it from your memory. How? Hard work on personal development. Do it until you don't remember how sugar taste and when was the last time you took something sugary. Immense chance that you will not be able to because you need change in environment and lifestyle. Go where there is no access to sugar.
thank you @sarah Moran for the amazing video just in time!
One question : you mentioned at the begening of the video that you learned what type of food that contains sugar n what not.. am already into that diet and i feel a little comfused about the type of food i should be eating .. at the begening i gave up what you v cold "obvious sweets" (like cakes ,added sugar ,ice cream etc)... i replaced them with honey ,fruits and other things as i thought that any type of natural sugar(that's not human made) dosen't break the diet .. later on , i v found out from my friends that even bread and pasta contains sugar as well !!!
is that true ?? and whould you please make it more clear : what form of sugar exactly we supose to band in order to be healthy??
thx
all the love for what you do =) =) ... i hope if one day i become a good dietitian like you are i 'll make a chanel to help people have good health
Yours from Tunisia .
I don't think you need to ban sugar from your diet at all to be healthy. Doing that would actually be pretty unhealthy. Like I mentioned in the video, I wouldn't encourage anyone to try this sort of diet out. It' better to just eat a variety of foods that you enjoy and that make you feel good! :)
thanks any way !
very interesting! great
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
she doesn't look sugar free
omgsh! 5:38 is so me!!! i'm learning about saying no! its hard, but i'm getting there as i'm working through eliminating added sugar from my diet :P!
To those being hypercritical, she mentioned many times that she avoided obvious sugars, not fruit sugar or sugars we don't think about like those in yogurts or granola bars... foods we deem "healthy" generally most people don't know how much sugar is in their food, something she addressed and admitted to. I loved this video & I'm trying to cut my sugar intake as well so this was helpful :)
so I'm always so confused when people say "stop eating sugar" does that mean: no fruit and no bread and that sort of stuff, or just no "added" sugar? Also when they say the recommended amount of sugar for a woman is 25g , does this include natural sugars in fruit and veg as well. Because if that's the case then I as a vegan get waaayy too much (don't snack at al). like seriousl, my breakfast is mainly fruit and I'm already at 33g? Someone help me out here, because if I can't have fruit there's not much left for me to eat ;, )
When people say that they usually mean added sugar. And that 25g number is added sugars too, so no worries about fruit. I have a video where I talk about the fruit thing in more detail if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/1qdtHTDRHB4/v-deo.html
You remind me of myself. I have cut out sugar for about a month before but I'm coming up on three years of only drinking water. I was super strict the first year. Trying to reject liquid medicine at the hospital lol. It wasn't until I ended up in the hospital for lack of electrolytes during my last day in the fire academy, that I had an exception. The other firefighters all drink Gatorade while I drank plain water. At the end of the day, I was in an ambulance. So now if I'm doing something intense like fighting a fire for hours, I'll drink Gatorade. Anyway, as of now it seems I may drink plain water for the rest of my life :)
Ugh ending up in an ambulance is no good. :( Glad you were fine though!
Oooh a Nutricionist, i hit the jackpot!!
Quit sugar, you won't look so old and be so salty.
I'm not eating any sweets for a year as a challenge. I'm 13 and I want to get abs for me to get stronger when doing gymnastics. I'm also doing 10 minute ab workouts everyday except Friday. I am going to do it and i am gonna have confidence too. Getting abs is my New Years resolution and I also wanna maintain a healthy diet. (:
I hope that you'll reconsider and think about the warning I gave in the video. I wouldn't want you to damage your relationship with food. I try to think about approaching my health and wellness from a place of love and kindness. Is what I'm doing right now kind to my body? That helps me a lot.
I was a chocoholic. The last time I had chocolate was December of last year. Idk if I can ever have it again.
This is a big topic to dig into in a comment, but you might find some helpful info in my video on quitting sugar: ua-cam.com/video/OQ1-rY5H6pQ/v-deo.html
I made French toast with Cinnamon and used Real Maple Syrup!
Sounds yummy!
I decided to give up sugar for one month. I am starting to question my motives.
I am interested although how you felt and how you looked. Was there any changes, positives?
It was so long ago that it's hard to remember specifics, but I don't remember feeling or looking much different. I might have noticed a difference if I made other changes to my diet. Being a teenager at the time might have made a difference too. I feel like you notice those things a lot more the older you get.
I know that I felt much better, but when I was on juice fast for two days. Later when i tried some sweet stuff, it tasted much better. I also remember when I was on vegan diet for propolged period of time, simple vegetables and fruits tasted great. So I was curious. You propably need to cut off refined flours too to see and feel the difference.
wow your skin looks so gooooooood D: Maybe I should try this :0
Haha thanks. I did this many years ago though so I don't think I'd be seeing any effects from it now. My skin is probably a combination of an overall healthy diet, a good moisturizer, and makeup. :)
Smart girl! You shaved off the fluff but didn’t make your life complicated with it. The best compromise would be to enjoy a little dessert on your special days, or special trips, or if a special person makes them for you, but keep them to that. You have to eat dessert in France after all! If you hadn’t come at this with a feeling of disordered eating to start, this would be quite sensible long term.
by judging your face, it seems like giving up sugar was a great decision! I gave up processed sugar, and my face is radiant. Mind you, I'm not a guy who usually cares about complexion, but a great side effect nevertheless!
Look into intermittent fasting. It looks like it has some major benefits for PCOS.
I'm 2 months no sugar!!!! Not easy but totally worth it! Only sugar I eat is in apples and berries occasionally
As a woman in my fifties, I have largely given up sugar but I did it in stages. I did it because I knew I was addicted to it, wanted to lose a few pounds and also that it wasn't doing anything for my health. I haven't gone obsessive, just cut out most but not all, added sugars. I still eat bread, pasta etc but not as much, I don't eat processed foods without checking the label (and don't eat many of those anyway); I love to bake but now only do so occasionally, usually for others, apart from my bread. I don't eat dessert often. If I crave something sweet, I now eat a square of dark chocolate or go for a few nuts. However, it is very true that tastes change. I used to be able to eat a Mars bar or Snickers - now I would have to force it down because it would be just too sweet. So I am now, after a year more or less, realising that even when the sweet desire hits - if I go for that sweet, I will only take a mouthful before realising I just don't want it anymore.
I think mindfulness is a big part of it too. Often times we eat while we're doing other things and aren't really paying attention to the flavors or how the food makes us feel.
Omg I'm trying to go for a week. 1 year I would die. But natural sugar I'm trying to keep low processed is a big no no that's what I learned on my sweet journey 😌
I don’t eat dessert so I am healthy?
congrats ¡!
I'm interested on your weight loss since you start cutting back on sugar
ughh im a complete sugar addict and cant seem to break out.😭 i want your willpower!
My best advice from making any lifestyle change is to start small. Don't try to change everything at once, just focus on one think and made little changes that build upon each other. :)
And then, you ccan keep the weight you desireeee foreeever - guaranteed result. Uncover moooore hereeee: twitter.com/9bdd82b972cdc1346/status/788632172043366400 No Sugar for 1 Year What I Learned
Fasted way is to just go cold turkey for a week. You'll snap out of it.
start by substituting honey for it
Add Potassium Citrate to your vitamins & Minerals. 2 capsules with each meal. I am a total sugar addict and have been for years. Just that one change helped with the intense sugar cravings I had every day. Now I can manage better food choices as I am not fighting the sugar cravings all day long.
how did you managed? sugars are everywhere nowadays
Bear in mind that anyone can call themselves a nutritionist and this video proves that.
Mark StJust Agreed
You're right, that's why I'm a Registered Dietitian. I'm so into this nutrition stuff that I got a degree in it. :) This is a story from before that though, when I was in high school.
Agreed. I listened to it all and couldn't get any 'point' from it.
I loved your video! I want to go one whole year without sugar as well! But, I don't agree with something you said: you said that it was something that you shouldn't be doing or that it's keeping you from living your life normally. But, you have to remember that every year you will have a birthday. Every year, you will have a trip somewhere, someplace, that has sugar. So, by your logic, there's never a good time to do this year challenge. And about living your life normally....not eating sugar can BECOME a normal part of life and it won't hold you back. You seem like someone who has SOOOO much energy and you love life! Recently, I've been eating sugar soooo much and it's making me depressed, and TIRED (all the time), and moody. Eating sugar takes away from people living a "normal life". I admire you for going one year with less sugar (obviously it wasnt a NO sugar year, but it was a lot less sugar) I wish I knew how much weight loss you had!
I completely agree with you. I think we should learn that enjoying life isn't about food and food should only nourish our bodies. I understand her point of view and how people can get confused about why you do this and sometimes can get in your head, but for these people sugar is addicting. Also it's like she said, when it comes to ourselves we are stricter than we are with others.
I just find it extremely sad that "living life" means i can have cake at my birthday or eat in France. What about dancing with your friends at your birthday? What about visiting France and taking pictures? She never mentioned things that really spark joy.
I personally hate the sweet cakes (i do like homemade pies and other softer desserts but chocolate cakes just make my teeth shiver in a bad way) so i actually always refused cakes from ALL my birthdays (I'm 24) and weddings and whatever. And when people asked why i just said the truth "i don't like it", and nobody asked twice or insisted. And i haven't even thought about me never having my own birthday cake until this video because that's how unimportant it was to me. And this is from all the years when i definitely ate sugar from all the other sources.
I plan to cut out sugar and see how I feel, at least for a month (this includes processed food and very high glycemic index foods, fruits in moderation if it's stuff like banana and dates) and i can only imagine how things like birthday cake will become even less important to me in comparison to life in general.
Also, always surround yourself with supporting people and real friends that respect your choices!
And i cannot wait to make a pink birthday cake (with beet) entirely from fruits and sweetened with dates and bananas, you bet that's something I'll eat for my birthday and enjoy!!
I want to quit sugar but after going a day or two without sugar I feel irritated and cannot concentrate. :/
Sometimes if you're eating a lot of something it can be a little rough when you first start to reduce it. Also, sometimes when people are switching up their diet they can accidentally under eat or, in the case of sugar, accidentally restrict carbs.
you spoke about everything except what you supposed to be discussing in this video. well done.
Just sharing my experience and the complexities of giving up desserts vs. sweets vs. added sugars vs. something else.
I've been off sugar for almost a month with a bit of headech every day, I really want to see some good results to make it worth it, I didn't mean to be harsh. Many thanks for the effects.
I was vegetarian for 8 years and feel so much healthier now that I have reverted back to a diverse diet that includes meat. I thought I was saving the world but what about my enjoyment etc
Since two month no sugar
I was hoping to hear what you learned. Just a bunch of rambling on and on.
Nice
what an amazing accomplishment! a whole year without sugar? well done!!
it was lovely meeting you at Vidcon, let's stay in touch! ♡

I liked you video.
I found it interesting what you said about taking it to an extreme and not being able to live your life because of a diet.
But im not sure about that because why is eating a cake on your birthday considered living your life. Seems like your friends were just trying to pressure you into breaking something that you considered to be important, just so that would conform to their standards of what life is suppose to be.
Thats just my thought though, either way this was an interesting look on the topic.
Have you stopped all processed foods.
I eat a lot less of them than the average person, but I don't use an all or nothing approach. The vast majority of my diet is whole, real foods and the other stuff comes in from time to time.
Giving up sweets and sticky deserts are good for the teeth. Its nothing to do with dieting. Next are the fizzy drinks and some medications, that would taste bad without sugar.
Processed sugar is bad. I went sugar free for 6 months, including added sugar, and I don't regret it at all. I regret getting back on sugar. And, if you are concerned with the cultural happenings that you may miss out on, you could always opt for natural sweeteners as opposed to cane and processed sugars. They even make candy sweetened only with honey and other non-refined sweeteners.
It's so nice when I hear someone describe how my own brain works. I don't feel like an alien (so much!) 😄
Today is 14th day with no sugar or substitute...I feel light
Omg you’ve such wisdom! Extreme rules around food is a recipe for disaster. So is weighing ourselves - there’s really no reason for scales in a home - only a Drs office. I learned the hard way. I’m hoping your videos prevent at least one person learning the hard way like you and I did. Congratulations on such a great video 👏👏👏
I have quit sugar because it does go to fat which goes to ldl cholesterol which goes to high triglycerides which goes to atherosclerosis which blocks vessels☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
just talk about the benefits!!!!please
Eating a slice of bread is worse than sugar--hits the blood as glucose faster than table sugar. Quitting "sugar" means cutting
almost all carbs
