I saw them in concert in the fall of 1969 after a home football game at college (Purdue). He did that last verse four or five times and kept going higher each time. Imagine sitting in a concert hall with perfect acoustics and hearing that. He lives in Florida now and still goes out and tours occasionally. Generally considered one of the nicest guys in the music business.
Excellent detail. I wasn't alive in 1969, but 'get' music from that time. Love 70's Country. I found Gary Puckett and the Union Gap around 20 years ago. Bought all the CD's. This song always stood out as timeless. The Civil War outfits fit their music. There's a sadness about that time, so many lost in Vietnam.
Such a great memory. The beautiful vocals and instrumentation so full of the incredible great sound of the 60's. So many beautiful memories brought back with these tunes. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Brandon. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Geez, I was going to post a comment, but it would have essentially been a carbon copy of this one. ('Cept for the "from Canada" bit, of course!) Well said, Mary!
He had a voice that really touches you. His songs always make me sad. He has that really beautiful honey like incredible voice. I love his voice. I started buying his songs. I love home and if the day would come.
I grew up listening to this classic music from the 60's-70's. Gary Puckett & The Union Gap had a lot of great songs such as "Lady Willpower", "Woman, Woman", "Over You", "Don't Give In To Him", "Let's Give Adam & Eve Another Chance" etc. This music brings back good memories for me.
If you want to hear another beautiful song recorded by the great Gary Puckett, try Home. It wasn't a big hit. But, it is about soldiers and going home. It is a gorgeous tearjerker that totally grabs the heart. I think you will appreciate the beauty. ❤
Brandon - Puckett's vocals are distinctive and beautiful. Gary Puckett and The Union Gap was a solid backing band, and this song choice by Brandon is spot-on. Harri, I really enjoyed your review. Bravo all around!
Grew up in 60s his voice epitomises those heady times for me ,still gets me even now ,if I feel nostalgic I listen to Woman Woman the breakup song of the era ,
There were a lot of songs in the late 60s and early 70s about self,-discover and other people,,'s observations on growing up. One of the reasons 9s because most countries in the Far East were only just starting having television sets in their homes, so the songs at that time have to convey extra message packets on life.
Thank you guys for answering my request. Just a beautiful song which I heard on the radio in 1969...I think...lol....maybe...lol.....all I know is that his voice is powerful and very high tier. Extraordinary. I fell in love with his voice. The group became my favorite Rock band. saw them in concert once, 2004.
Wonder if this was their response to Neil Diamond's "Girl you'll be a woman soon" they also had other great songs "Woman, woman" "Lady willpower" "Over you"
Funny you said that. I requested both songs together a couple of months ago and made that same comment with my request. He reacted to Neil but wasn't able to get to Gary that month.
funny story about him, a friend who's a musician who lives in Texas was visiting a music store when another customer started talking to him about guitars and such. the guy let and my friend went to the store owner and the owner says "do you know who that was?" "no" my friend says. "that was Gary Puckett!!" the owner told him! Gary was of course older and my friend didn't recognize him
At age 80 Gary Puckett is still performing this song and many others of his hits. Gary will be here in San Diego where it all started back in 1967 when the band was formed. They sold more records in 1968 than any other band including The Beatles. The Union Gap seemed to lose all their momentum when Kerry ChaterRIP and Gary Mutha Withem left the band to take 9-5 jobs with AM records. I was trying to think of a singer from 1969 that could approach what Gary did on This Girl… The only singer that might have came close would be Roger Daltrey. Check out Gary Puckett singing three songs he co- wrote A Simple Man( the song Hardcore GP fans love the most!! Also Could I, and a ballad called “ If The Day Would Come”. Look up troubadour in the dictionary and you will see a picture of Gary Puckett. Thanks Harry remember A Simple Man perhaps Gary’s greatest performance with The Union Gap.
This was the groups final album The New Gary Puckett And The Union Gap Album 1969 he went into acting 1970 acting didn't work out for him so in 1971 he released a solo album called The Gary Puckett Album.
Hi Harri!! I know you get a Ton of requests, butttt, i think youll really dig The Grateful Deads "Deal" from 7/4/89. If you ever wanted to feel and see what some 70,000 felt durung a top shelf Jerry solo, i HIGHLY recommended this one!! Make sure its the 7/4/89 !! ✌️ ❤ Enjoy my friend!!
I currently cannot think of any singer who had better control over his high end ---- _for a long time_ ---- than Gary Puckett. Maybe McCartney, maybe Art Garfunkel, maybe Jay Black of Jay and the Americans. Keep in mind: I'm only discussing white soul singers. All bets are off if discussing Otis, Wilson Pickett, David Ruffin, Al Green, etc. And, I'm only talking about the male singers. There's Aretha, Ann Wilson, Pat Benatar, Kate Bush, awww, what the hell; we are BLESSED with so many wonderful singers on record, to lift us up. And DON'T FORGET THE SONGWRITERS.
One of my favorite groups from the 60s please check out let's give Adam and Eve another chance. They have other songs also, such as young girl, woman woman, over you, lady willpower.. a good Rabbit hole to go down 👍🎵😎✌️
Gary Puckett had the most powerful voice along with David Clayton Thomas of Blood Sweat and Tears .
That guy had pipes.

Wow! What an experience that must have been!

The best song ever!!! Gary really did have a fantastic voice!
Gary had a fantastic voice and I have always felt that he and the Union Gap were very underrated.
I just saw Gary in concert 4 days ago on the Happy Together Tour. He's now 80 years old and still sounds great!
A great song, ... Gary Puckett, love the voice.
One of my all-time favorite vocalists.
Love all of their songs,

@Rob Taylor Thanks Rob. It was a magical time with our little transistor radios pressed to our ears. 👍✌️🎶😊🇨🇦
with the late great Hal Blaine on drums.....and the rest of the Wrecking Crew.....
I did not know that but...back then dam near everyone did.
I was a little girl when he sung these songs. I think he was highly underrated.
One of my personal favorite groups of the 60's thanks for reacting to this timeless song!
Not only a great voice, but excellent pitch and dynamics.
The magical 60s, such a great description of that time. It was just wonderful!
Somehow our high school got Union Gap. Great group live. Thanks.
Gary Puckett and the Union Gap ruled the airwaves in 1968. Hit after hit after hit... Extraordinary vocalist..
One of the best voices in the music History. Gary Puckett is definitely one of my all-time best vocals in the music business.
Garry Puckett is an american singer sometimes dresses in British garb great voice many hits in the 60,s
He had a voice that really touches you. His songs always make me sad. He has that really beautiful honey like incredible voice. I love his voice. I started buying his songs. I love home and if the day would come.

That voice .

Totally agree! "Home" always gets to me. Reminds me of when my brother was in Nam . . .
Brandon - Puckett's vocals are distinctive and beautiful. Gary Puckett and The Union Gap was a solid backing band, and this song choice by Brandon is spot-on. Harri, I really enjoyed your review. Bravo all around!
Thanks for giving Gary Puckett voice a replay
Beautiful and masculine voice. Hard to find. "Woman, woman"..."Young girl" and "Guess there's just no getting over you" are excellent as well.
He has done those. Check them out sometime
Great song by a very memorable band. This guy vocals are incredible - bet he could sing an arena gig without a mic !
One of those unforgettable bands from the 60s.They had that special sound.Never gets old.
never
Nothing like them! Sooooo great!
Thanks for reviewing this fantastic song
Timeless and so great!!!
A great voice and a wonderful song about young love!!!!!!!
WoW 😳 I'm first to 'Like' again and seems I'll be the first to comment too.
Another BEAUTIFUL Choice HarriBestie!!!
As a woman I'm really love this. Thanks Harri
My sister borrowed his album from a friend and we never gave it back. I think we wore it out. Saw him twice in concert early 70's and 90's.
Grew up in 60s his voice epitomises those heady times for me ,still gets me even now ,if I feel nostalgic I listen to Woman Woman the breakup song of the era ,
Nice Oldie!
Great song Brandon, I was expecting to hear Daniel's name when I heard the title. Thanks Harri.
He and I are very much alike.
Great song by Gary Puckett. His voice is calming. ❤❤❤❤
I don't think he got enough credit for being one of the best vocalist.
Cannot agree more. So inderared.
Great voice - good pick Brandon!
Gary is still touring. Saw him last summer. He's coming to town again in a few weeks.
Really great reaction! Loved this group.
So beautiful!!!! ❤️

Another great song from 1969!
My sister took me to see them in concert. My very first. Love his voice but I have noticed the lyrics of some of the songs have not aged well.
Yes!
Thank you so much Brandon. This is such a great old song!! Nice reaction from Harri 🌺✌️
His vocal range is phenomenal
Such an underrated band. They got their props for sure but sheer voice talent is tops
massivly underrated.
Great song ❤❤❤❤❤
Saw Gary at a street festival in the early 2000s and his voice was just as amazing. One of my favorite groups of the 60s.
Hes soo great!
I love the story in the song and his voice
Wonder if this was their response to Neil Diamond's "Girl you'll be a woman soon" they also had other great songs "Woman, woman" "Lady willpower" "Over you"

Aside from Gary's amazing voice the piano really carries the song

One of the best singers in history. Its all gone now. No one can sing anymore. They all sound like a clogged pickaloe now, sad.
Hola Harri.... Gary Puckett lovers

He sure did like to sing about young girls. 😮
Most of them did. Peter Noone and his songs weren't about old women. 😮
Always loved the voice for how rich it is. Hearing this song again, having learned how many perverts there are, I cringe at the lyrics.

You should ckeck out their version of "Kiss Me Goodbye"
1968
