TN Moppy Laura He had a great voice back then. He's lost a little range. I saw him once in concert with the Union Gap and Davy Jones was a guest. I was 14 and almost lost my mind! LOL! Because my best friend won a radio contest, she and I got to meet them afterwards. I was speechless when Davy Jones turned around to greet me and I realized I was taller than him! LOL! They were all very nice guys, though.

There is considerable difference between this live performance and the original recorded version of this sound. I think his voice is good as ever, but I don't like the arrangement (if that is the right word) of the song. Or maybe the right word would be the style of the song, which is the word the presenter uses, in that it is much more country. I remember in an interview Gary Puckett mentioned that it was originally a country song done by another group, and they seem to have injected a little bit of that back into this version, and Gary's voice also in some places has a bit of a country sound, and I really don't like it. Also, there is a slight but to me significant change in lyrics. The original lyrics were "have you got cheating on your heart, on your mind." Here he just says "on your mind, on your mind." A small change, but I think it is significant to the song and diminishes it.

When I was in college in San Diego we'd go to a bar where Gary Puckett played the guitar and sang with another man. He was just as good as he had been in the recordings my parents listened to.

Your knowledge of the intricacies of instruments, vocals, sound, and music in general blows me away... as does the variety of styles you appreciate. The person who commented below said it perfectly. All I can say, is you are freaking awesome!

Holy Cow, I literally learn so much from you Fil . You are definitely, one hell of a teacher, who’s appreciated,so much more than you ever know. I love your work . You have the knowledge, and the experience,to back it up. It’s so educational as well ,for those who don’t play,it’s so gratifying.
But seriously, it’s so cool to know that we have this amazing abundance of musicians, around the world, that we’re all being introduced to here ,from Fil ,so thanks again for all all your hard work . Sending out love to our Fil Family, stay healthy, and keep on rocking. ❤️🇨🇦.

My favorite Gary Puckett and the Union Gap song was already "Young Girl, get out of my mind". That's the kind of song you used to hear on AM radio on the way to the beach in the summer. Those were the good old days. Sometimes you gotta just say...oh Puckett all ...

....I just happened to come across this, Fil...Gary Puckett has such a unique voice , and I loved seeing this, as I did watch this show " Nashville Now " with Mr. Ralph Emery. I was 12 or 13 years of age in 1966, and in 1968, I had a huge crush on Gary Puckett.
I loved this analysis, and I wish they had not gone thier separate ways, because they had a certain niche ,and a smooth sound that was so enjoyable and loved by many .

Wow....brings back memories of my incredible late Mom. She had an album of various artists on it, and this song was one I memorized when I was in grade school! And yes, I knew it as Gary Puckett and the Union Gap.
Thanks for bringing yet another awesome analysis!!
